A big thank you to those who have helped in any way with the fund-raising during this year!

We’ve had a very successful year again, and will let you know next term the full amount raised and what it was spent on, as we haven’t yet got all the details in from the recent events. However, it is clear that once again parents have provided excellent support for the various activities we have held during the year.

The PTA Bond evening last Friday was a particular success, with a great time being had by all! Thanks to Phil Upton for providing the entertainment, and to Neil Cusdin and his band of helpers for the fantastic decoration of the DM Hall – it looked amazing! And thanks to Julie and Rachel for organising the event so that it ran so smoothly as always! Congratulations must go to those of you who dressed up as Bond characters – there were some novel and impressive attires!

The children’s disco was also successful, with Phil as DJ and the kids having a great time. We raised £380 from the event! Many thanks to all who helped on the night.

We hope you have enjoyed this year’s events and activities and we look forward to seeing you at PTA events next year. Please let us know what you thought of this year’s activities, especially if you have ideas for next year’s fund raising.

Best wishes from the PTA Committee!

Children’s Summer Disco – Next Monday 30th June 2008

This is a final reminder that the children’s disco is next Monday, 30th June at 6.15pm to 7.15pm for the Infants and 7.30 to 8.30pm for Juniors. Refreshments will be available for parents who wish to stay – don’t forget please that you need to supervise your children who at are School during the evening unless they have been checked into the disco.

Many thanks to those who have volunteered so far – we have confirmed to those whom we need to help, but are still looking for a few other volunteers, especially for the Junior disco, and for clearing up at the end. We need to leave School tidy, and the more assistance we have then, the quicker we can all get home! Please let us know if you can help.

Summer Party – Friday 11th July 2008

Numbers are being confirmed in the next few days so please see Julie if you haven’t yet got tickets and do wish to come to the PTA Bond Evening, or if you have already indicated you want tickets but have not yet paid.

Children’s Summer Disco – Monday 30th June 2008

A reminder following last week’s letter about the children’s discos on Monday 30th June. The form is included again this week, as the date is a week on Monday – please return this as soon as possible and by next Friday at the latest, as we do want to register all children who are going to attend in advance. Please remember that we can not take responsibility for children on School premises during the discos who are not registered as attending, so any Junior children present at School during the Infant disco need to be supervised by parents. The Infants disco will be from 6.15 to 7.15pm and the Junior disco from 7.30 to 8.30pm.

Volunteers to help on the night are needed so that the children can be safely registered and checked out, and supervised during the event. Please indicate on the form if you can help, or let Sue know (01926 484667).

Summer Party – Friday 11th July 2008

There is a strict limit on numbers and we’ll be confirming final numbers for catering purposes soon, so if you are planning to come and haven’t yet bought your tickets, please let Julie know next week (01926 840287).

Many thanks to all of you who contributed in anyway to the Fun Run and Spring Fair last Saturday. Despite the weather we had a great attendance, especially for the Fun Run which raised £495. The Spring Fair was an excellent mix of events, activities and stalls, which we hope you all enjoyed – with your help we raised £2000 in total from the Fair. Thanks go to all helpers, especially Rachel and Julie who organised the Spring Fair, and Lisa and Victoria for the Fun Run.

Spring Fair and Fun Run – Saturday 17th May 2008

Only one week to go to the Spring Fair and Fun Run – and we’re hoping the weather stays good for this year! Key things to note are:

  • Please return your Fun Run booking form before the 17th as we can not accept registration on the day. Don’t forget that each child who enters gets 10 house points for their house – so far Yarningale are in the lead! The form is available from the School Office, or else you can download it from the web site.
  • Many thanks to those of you who provided prizes for the Tombola as part of today’s non-uniform day.
  • A reminder that boxes are in the classrooms for items for the Rainbow Stall – we’d be grateful for contributions of toys or other items that can be sold on the stall in the appropriate colour for your child’s year group, i.e.:

    Reception – Pink YR 4 - Green
    YR 1 – Red YR 5 - Orange
    YR 2 – Purple YR 6 - Yellow
    YR 3 - Blue

  • Raffle tickets are being sent home today – we’d be grateful for your help in selling as many of these as possible, to family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues etc. Please return any unwanted tickets as quickly as possible so that we can sell them to others.
  • We’d be grateful for any donations of cakes, plants or books to be sold at the Fair.

If you can help with any of these things we’d be very grateful – as always the success of this event depends on your support! We hope to see as many of you as possible on the day. If you have any donations or can volunteer to help on the day please see Lisa (01926 475812) for the Fun Run or Rachel, Julie or Sue.

Bag 2 School Collection – Thursday 15th May

You should have received plastic bags for the next Bag 2 School collection – please use this for any unwanted clothes, soft furnishings, linens, soft toys, etc that you have available. Please keep your full bags until Thursday 15th and then bring them to the corner of Breach Lane and Langley Road between 8.30 and 9am.

Next PTA Meeting – Monday 12th May 2008, 8pm at Julie’s

Spring Fair and Fun Run – Saturday 17th May 2008

Don’t forget to return your form for this year’s Family Fun Run – we’ve had a good response so far and numbers are limited. The form is available from the School Office, or else you can download it from the web site.

We’ll be running the Rainbow Stall again at this year’s Spring Fair. For those of you new to this, the stall sells kid's toys and other items (new or nearly new) which children contribute according to the following colour scheme:

Reception – Pink YR 4 - Green
YR 1 – Red YR 5 - Orange
YR 2 – Purple YR 6 - Yellow

Anyone else able to help either with the Fun Run or with stalls at the Spring Fair, please contact Lisa on 01926 475812, Rachel, Julie or Sue. We’ve had a good response so far for raffle prizes, but can still accommodate a few more if anyone else can help.

Bag 2 School Collection – Thursday 15th May

Bags will be distributed next week from School to ‘eldest and only’ children, for the Bag 2 School collection on Thursday 15th May. Please use this for any unwanted clothes, soft furnishings, linens, soft toys, etc that you have available. Please keep your full bags until Thursday 15th and then bring them to the corner of Breach Lane and Langley Road between 8.30 and 9am.

Next PTA Meeting – Monday 12th May 2008

The next PTA meeting will be at Julie’s house on Monday 12th at 8pm. Please let Julie know if you can attend and she will provide directions.

Parents set an example and get your (sports) kit on for the Great Claverdon Fun Run on SAT 17th May. The run will also signal the start of the Spring Fair with plenty of activities for the whole family. So pull together a team of family and friends or even work colleges to run (or walk) 2, 4 or 6KM around the village.

The event will begin @ 1.00pm with registration and an Aerobic warm up in the playground. The race will start @ 1.30pm

This year is an Olympic year so we are looking for lots of different sports kits (so long as you can run in them and they are not dangerous!)

How do you enter?

Complete the Entry form and return with money or cheque, in an envelope to the Fun Run box in the school office by 14th May.

There is a limit on numbers so get your form in QUICK. This year we will not be registering new entrants on the day!!

We will register you for the event and return full instructions for the day with your receipt and race number.

Want to take part but do not want to run?

We need Volunteers to marshal the route during the fun run.

Please call Victoria Benjamin (07765 515651) or Lisa Bunting (01926 475812) if you would like to get involved. We need at least 6 Marshals to hold the race!!

Entry form for the 2008 Great Claverdon Family Fun run

Invitation Voucher Books

Unfortunately 12 families still have not either returned the Invitation Voucher book or given us a cheque for £19.99, made out to Claverdon School PTA. This means we’ll have to take about £240 out of the funds being raised for School, with no benefit for School. If you haven’t yet returned the book or a cheque, please, please do so urgently.

100 Club Draw for March and April

  • March 1st prize (£54) : 43 – Heidi Ambrose Brown
  • March 2nd prize (£18) : 65 – Nancy Goodrich
  • April 1st prize (£54) : 42 – Sarah Matthews
  • April 2nd prize (£18) : 57 – Alison Burling

Spring Fair and Fun Run – Saturday 17th May 2008

Thanks to those who have already offered to help with this year’s Spring Fair and Family Fun Run, to be held on Saturday 17th May. However, we would still like more helpers for both, so if you can be involved please contact:

- Lisa on 01926 475812 or Victoria on 07765 515651 if you can be a marshal for the Fun Run – this will only take about an hour on the Saturday

- Rachel, Julie or Sue if you can help with running stalls or activities during the fair even for 30 minutes or so, to give others a break

Summer Party – Friday 11th July 2008

Tickets will be on sale soon for this year’s summer party. We’ve decided to hold a themed party – James Bond - at the DM Hall in Claverdon. Ticket prices will include a meal, and there will be a bar, disco and raffle. So please put the date in your diary, and plan your attire! Further details to follow soon.

Spring Fair and Fun Run – Saturday 17th May 2008

Arrangements are now underway for this year’s Spring Fair and Family Fun Run, to be held on Saturday 17th May. The Fun Run will start at 1.30pm, with the Spring Fair opening at 2pm. We are particularly looking for helpers to:

  • be Marshals for the Fun Run – this will take the same route as in previous years along Langley Road, looping around the School along the public access footpath into Breach Lane and back to School, and we need people to guide and help runners along the route (please contact Lisa on 01926 475812 or Victoria on 07765 515651)
  • run stalls or activities during the fair – we’d like as many helpers as possible so that people are only needed for short stints (please contact Rachel, Julie or Sue)

It has been suggested that we run a nearly new school uniform stall at the Fair, which we will do if there is sufficient interest. Please can you let us have any donations of unwanted school uniform which is in reasonable condition. We would also appreciate any more donations of prizes for the raffle, so if you can help with this please let us know as soon as possible.

Bag 2 School Collection – Thursday 15th May 2008

Arrangements for the next Bag 2 School collection will be the same as previously. Please bring any unwanted items such as clothes, soft furnishings, soft toys in the bag provided to the corner of Breach Lane and Langley Road, between 8.30 and 9am on Thursday 15th May. Please do not take items into School, as there are no facilities to store them. Bags will be distributed from School in early May.

Invitation Voucher Books

A final reminder please to return urgently any unwanted Invitation Voucher Books, or a cheque for £19.99, made out to Claverdon School PTA.

Next PTA meeting – Monday 12th May 2008

The next PTA meeting will be held at Julie’s house on Monday 12th May, at 8pm. If you are able to join us, please let Julie know.

Easter Bun Fridays

Well done to everyone last term - Years 4, 5 and 6 raised £64.90 in their Easter bun sale and in total we managed to raise a worthwhile £223.74 from all three sales. There have been some suggestions that, because the spring term can be shorter than the others, it might be better to stop the Easter Bun Fridays and either have something similar at the end of the summer term, or simply have only the Chocolate Christmas Fridays. Please let us know what you think – either come to the PTA meeting next Monday, or let Julie, Rachel or Sue know at School.

Invitation Voucher Books

Please to return a cheque for £19.99, made out to Claverdon School PTA, for the Invitation Voucher Books distributed at the end of last term, or return the book itself, unused. We do need to return any unwanted books and we are required to pay for all books not returned, so if you haven’t yet done so, please make your decision and let us have the money or the book (in the envelope provided) by Friday 11th April at the latest. If you haven’t received a book, please see Julie.

Bag 2 School Collection – Thursday 15th May 2008

A reminder that the next Bag 2 School collection will be on 15th May, at 9am, at School. Further details will follow nearer the time, but please keep any unwanted items such as clothes, soft furnishings, soft toys in the meantime for the collection.

Spring Fair and Fun Run – Saturday 17th May 2008

2007 School Fair 007_thThis year’s Spring Fair and Family Fun Run will be held on Saturday 17th May. We will give you more details nearer the time, but in the meantime please put the date in your diaries, and if you can help with the event/want to run a stall or an activity, then please let Julie, Rachel or Sue know. We are also looking for donations of prizes for the raffle, so if you can help with this please let us know as soon as possible.

Next PTA meeting – Monday 7th April 2008

The next PTA meeting will be held at School, at 7.30pm, on Monday 7th April. Please come and join us, and let us have your views on fund-raising events and how best to spend the money parents and families are contributing to the School.

Easter Bun Fridays

Well done to Years 1 and 3, and everyone who bought from last Friday’s Easter bun sale for raising £77.21. We’ll let you know how much Years 4, 5 and 6 raised today, and the total raised from all sales next term.

Bag 2 School Collection

Thanks to everyone who contributed unwanted clothes, soft furnishings, soft toys etc through the last Bag 2 School collection – we raised £143.75 for School. We are arranging for a further collection in May, to follow the next Nearly New sale. The collection will be on 15 May, at 9am, at School. Further details will follow nearer the time, but please keep any unwanted items in the meantime for the collection.

Invitation Voucher Books

The Invitation Voucher Books are being distributed from School this week, to the eldest and only children. This is an excellent opportunity to raise money for School and save money yourselves on a variety of days out, restaurants, and retail outlets. The books include vouchers giving you savings on entrance tickets for venues such as – Drayton Manor, Cadbury World, Hatton Country World, IMAX cinema and Think Tank in Birmingham, Twycross Zoo, National Trust properties, museums, cinemas, bowling alleys and other leisure attractions, all in the West Midlands/ Warwickshire area. Parents who used the books last year found them very worthwhile – it was very easy to recoup the cost of the book of £19.99.

We need to return any books not paid for (we are required to pay for any missing books), so we ask that you make a decision as soon as possible about whether you want the books, and if not please return them to School. If you do decide to buy the book, please send a cheque for £19.99, made payable to Claverdon School PTA, in the envelope provided. If you haven’t received a book, please see Julie.

Next PTA meeting – Monday 7th April 2008

Date for your diaries - the next PTA meeting will be held at School, at 7.30pm, on Monday 7th April, at the start of the summer term.

HAVE A GOOD EASTER HOLIDAY !

Easter Bun Fridays

Thanks to all who helped with Reception and Year 2’s Easter bun sale last Friday – we raised an excellent £81.63. When you read this, Years 1 and 3 will have completed their sale and we look forward to the final sale from Years 4, 5 and 6 on Friday 14th March.

Book Fair 10th – 13th March

Monday evening - from 5 to 6.15pm

Wednesday evening - from 5 to 7.30pm (or part of this)

Quiz Night and 100 Club Draw

The Quiz night was very successful again – those who attended had a great time trying (and often failing!) to answer Phil Upton’s questions correctly. Many thanks to Phil, his helpers (Katherine, Julie and Lois) and all of you who came – we raised a very worthwhile £360 as well as having a fun evening.

During the evening we drew the 100 Club balls – this month’s lucky winners are Donna MacDonald (1st prize) and Sarah Bromwich (2nd prize).

Next PTA meeting – Monday 7th April 2008

Date for your diaries - the next PTA meeting will be held at School, at 7.30pm, on Monday 7th April, at the start of the summer term.

Easter Bun Fridays

A reminder of the remaining Easter Bun Fridays – the dates are:

Years 1 and 3: Friday 7th March

Years 4, 5 and 6: Friday 14th March

Please see your year reps about arrangements for each sale. Many thanks for your contributions of things to eat and for continuing to support the sales by buying the goodies!

Yellow Moon Catalogues

You should have received the latest edition of the Yellow Moon catalogue today from School. A contribution is made to School funds for any purchase from the catalogue – and there is a good range of stationery, gifts etc. Please make the most of this opportunity and remember to quote the School reference number when you place your order.

Book Fair 10th – 13th March

Mrs Gover has asked whether any parents are able to help with the book fair which will be held in School in the w/c 10th March. We are looking for volunteers for any of the following sessions – please let Julie, Rachel or Sue know if you can help:

Monday, Tuesday or Thursday 3.15 to 4.15pm

Monday or Wednesday evening during parents evening

Invitation Voucher Books

This year's Invitation Voucher books will be issued to the eldest and only children on the last day of term – Wednesday 19th March. Next PTA meeting – Monday 7th April 2008

Date for your diaries - the next PTA meeting will be held at School, at 7.30pm, on Monday 7th April, at the start of the summer term. Please put the date in your dairies, and we look forward to seeing you then.

We need to order the food on Wednesday, so that is the last day for ticket sales. Tickets cost £7.50 per head, which includes a fish n’ chip supper (or vegetarian alternative). Phil Upton will be our Quiz Master, aiming to better last year’s devious and dastardly questions, and a bar will be available. Tickets can be obtained from Julie or any of the PTA Committee, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Next PTA meeting – Monday 25th February 2008

The next PTA meeting will be held at School, at 7.30pm, next week on Monday 25th February. Do come along and share your views and ideas on what activities the PTA should be running, and on the priorities for spending the funds we are raising.

Easter Bun Fridays

As we have such a short half-term now til Easter, we have decided to combine the year groups for the Easter Bun Fridays. So the arrangements for the sales will be:

Years R and 2:Friday 29th February
Years 1 and 3:Friday 7th March
Years 4, 5 and 6:Friday 14th March

Year reps will be organising the sales, and we’d be grateful for contributions of edible goodies, ideally with an Easter theme. Please bring these to School on the relevant Friday.

Yellow Moon Catalogues

Don’t forget your Yellow Moon catalogues – the School receives a donation for any order placed.

Sponsoring Fund-raising Events

Are any parents able to offer or organise sponsorship from their employers for any of our fund-raising events? We already have some parents who have been able to arrange match-funding from their employers for some of our fund-raising activities, which is an excellent way of boosting funding for School. If any parent would like to talk about sponsoring a fund-raising event for School, we’d be delighted to hear from you. This could be for any of the events we already run or for something new. Please contact Julie or any of the Committee if you can help.

Quiz Night – Friday 29th February 2008

Tickets are now on sale for the Quiz Night on 29th February. This will be held at School, and will involve teams of 4 competing to answer Quiz Master Phil Upton’s questions on a variety of themes, with a fish n’ chip supper and bar. Tickets cost £7.50 per head, including supper or £30 for a team of 4. Put your own team together or else we will arrange teams for you. Please complete the form below and return to Julie or one of the PTA Committee.

We will be holding a raffle during the evening, and we’d be grateful for any raffle prize donations - if you can help please let one of the Committee know.

Autumn Term Fund-raising Totals

We succeeded in raising £1934.23 funds for the School in the Autumn term! This will fund items such as the £300 contribution to Science week, and a further £300 for Science equipment for School, and will also go towards the whiteboard for Reception class and the recently leased colour photocopier.

Invitation Books

Following last year’s interest we have registered again to receive Invitation voucher books which will arrive in March. In the meantime, don’t forget to make use of this year's vouchers, especially during half-term – they are valid until the end of February.

Following the successful Quiz Night last year, we have decided to hold a follow-up event on Friday 29th February. The format will be similar to last time, with Phil Upton as Quiz Master, tables of four competing to answer questions on a variety of themes, and a fish n’ chip supper and bar. Tickets will be available soon, at £7.50 per head, including supper, so please put the date in your diaries, get your teams together and prepare for a re-match!

Christmas Fund-raising Totals

The Christmas Chocolate Fridays last term were a great success! Reception provided us with a massive £90 from their sale, making a fantastic £562.81 total fund-raising from these events. The children’s disco in the last week of term raised £427.20.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed and helped with the various events.

Children's Christmas Disco

Don’t forget to return your forms for the disco on Tuesday next week - £2.50 per child. It helps us considerably if we know who is attending in advance, rather than taking money on the door.

The Infant disco starts at 6.15pm and the junior disco at 7.30pm, and each lasts an hour. Parents are welcome to stay at School during the disco, and refreshments will be available for a small donation. Please remember that any children you bring to School must remain in your care unless they have been signed in to the relevant disco – we can’t unfortunately supervise children who are not actually attending the disco. Also, please can you remember to sign out your children when you collect them – at recent discos a few parents have left without doing so, which causes concern about children’s safety. If you do sign them out, it saves us having to phone you after the disco to check they are with you!

Christmas Chocolate Fridays

By the time you read this, Reception will have finished their sale of chocolate Christmas goodies – many thanks to everyone who has supported all the sales and well done to Year 1 who raised £73.79 last week. So far we’ve raised nearly £500 with the chocolate Fridays this year, so many, many thanks. We’ll confirm the final total next term.

School Christmas Performances

Thanks to all who helped with the refreshments and supported the raffles at the School Christmas performances. We’ll be able to let you know how much has been raised early next term.

And finally,
……MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!

Christmas Chocolate Fridays

Congratulations to everyone who contributed to last week’s Year 2 sale which raised £98.87, exceeding the previous highest total by a small margin of 27p! Can Year 1’s sale this week and the final sale on 14th December by Reception improve on this? Seriously, the Christmas Chocolate Friday sales are going really well this year, and we’re very grateful to everyone who is supporting them.

School Christmas Performances

Many thanks to those who have given donations of food or drink for the hampers. The hampers will be raffled at the School Christmas performances next week – one for each performance. Thanks also to those who have volunteered to help with refreshments - everything you need will be at School, but please can you arrive sufficiently before the performance starts in order to get everything ready.

Children’s Christmas Disco

As mentioned in last week’s letter, the Christmas discos with Phil Upton will take place this year on Tuesday 18th December at 6.15 – 7.15pm for Years R, 1 and 2, and 7.30 - 8.30pm for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. If your child/children will be attending, please return the form below to School as soon as possible, together with £2.50 per child (cheques to Claverdon School PTA please).

We do need several volunteers to supervise the children coming in, leaving and during the discos, as we have to sign the children on and off the School premises. It is easiest to have two parents from each year group to do this, for the children in their year, so if you can help, please indicate on the form below or let your year rep know.

Christmas Chocolate Fridays

Last week we raised £74.75 for Children in Need through Year 4’s sell-out stall - many thanks to everyone who contributed, bought and donated. By the time you read this, Year 3 will have held their sale and we look forward to Year 2’s efforts next Friday, 30th November.

School Christmas Performances

As in previous years, we intend to support the School Christmas performances by raffling a hamper of goodies at each performance, and by providing refreshments. Class reps will be in touch with parents about helping with the refreshments (tea/coffee and mince pies, with mulled wine as well for the evening performances). We’d also be grateful for any donations of food or drink suitable to go in the hampers (nothing perishable or with a short shelf-life please) by 30th November. There will be a box in each classroom where donations can be placed, though if you are donating anything alcoholic please will you deliver this to the School office.

PTA AGM 19 November 2007

The AGM was held last Monday, and the PTA officers for the forthcoming year were confirmed as:

Chair : Julie FenwickSecretary : Sue Herbert
Vice-chair : Rachel Ollerenshaw Treasurer : Jenny Phillips

Many thanks to Phil Upton and Nic Gotrel, who are standing down as Vice-chair and joint secretary respectively, for their hard work on behalf of the PTA and School. Both have confirmed they will continue to help out with events, so we will still have the benefit of their support.

Mrs Gover thanked the PTA and all parents for their fund-raising efforts which are much appreciated. Particular mention was made of the match funding secured by Jim Ward of £250 – which is excellent. If anyone else works for an organisation that might be willing to provide match funding, we’d be keen to talk to you, as this is a very effective way of increasing the funds we can raise. Notes of the AGM are available on the School website.

100 Club Draw

Congratulations to Clare Pettizer who won first prize in the November 100 club draw of £51.75, and to Sarah Matthews who won the second prize of £17.25.

Ladies Night

The Ladies Night last week was very successful again, with many of us doing some shopping, experiencing various treatments and enjoying the wine. Final figures are still being collected but we think we’ve raised over £400, so many thanks to all who helped and contributed. You can still order wine (good value, good quality and 10% contribution to School) – see Julie or better still come to the AGM on Monday when details will be available.
