The launch of Space Shuttle Endeavor STS-123 viewed from 2 angles on the NASA causeway at Kennedy Space Center. Launch occurred at 2:28 am EST on March 11, 2008 The mission is carrying a storage compartment (the first installment of Japan's Kibo lab) which will be attached to the ISS. The crew will also assemble Canada's Dextre robot, which was carried inside of the shuttle in nine pieces. We've noticed that people don't have any idea what (or where) we're talking about when we mention that we recently traveled to Chernobyl & Pripyat. Pripyat is a completely modern abandoned city about 2km from Chernobyl, inside of the Chernobyl exclusion zone, in Ukraine. Over 20 years ago (26 April, 1986), there was an accident in one of the nuclear reactors there that became the worst technological disaster in history. We got some really fantastic footage of both cities as well as the reactor. When we put the film together, we thought it would be helpful to include some information about what happened. Here's the final product. This footage of Chernobyl and Pripyat was filmed on August 7, 2007 by Jason Strain. Narration is by Laura Corliss. Music by Brokenkites. Externally, she's a professional, successful woman, in rigid control of her life. Internally she bleeds for her four year old son, Tommy, who drowned accidentally four years earlier. She has not forgiven herself or her mother, Eunice, who was supposedly supervising Tommy. Tommy inspired Zoe's compositions. When he died, her ability to compose died. When Eunice, who lives in the moment and believes Zoe should too, invades her home and her life, she brings the ghost of Tommy with her. Slowly the music returns and threatens to overtake Zoe's life. Eunice also gatecrashes Zoe's therapy ensemble and tries to run her life. The central questions are: will Zoe let Eunice back into her life and how can Zoe bring healing to the people in the ensemble when she refuses to confront her own grief or forgive her mother? Send all inquiries to the lawyers? It was happening already in everything I'd seen from the press and federal investigations of the company. I had no weight at all compared to the kind of leverage the bigger entities could muster, and I knew that they were under absolutely no obligation to assist a stranger who walked up to the front desk requesting probably classified and sensitive information. I still had to write them, though. You have to say things, not just sometimes, all times. You have to take the thoughts out of the ether, pulling them down from the sky like clouds or satellites or stars, examining them, and then apply them to the paper. Even when nobody's listening. The papers, the ink, they're there to help you get it all out. I miss you I love you Don't go away Don't come back I hate you I can't remember what your face looks like You know how it is. Stages, relationships, friends, lovers, enemies. I wrote letters, some like lyrics, some like songs, and some like long run-on sentences that didn't make sense. Short and long letters, and folded them, sealed the envelopes, and then I placed them inside of these boxes. Would you read them if I sent them your way? Would the things that I had to say to you a year ago, two minutes ago, would those things even matter to you? People, how I miss you, you lost parts of my past. RETURN TO SENDER

He continued unwrapping the brown paper, revealing a small metal box. He discarded the wrappings onto the floor of the car and removed the top of the box by sliding it open. I leaned closer to him to get a better look inside of the box as he shook an object out into his hand. He closed his fist around the object and cleared his throat. "This object is like a sign post," he began. "It points you in a direction that might help you find your way, though the answers you're seeking won't ever come to you easily." A signpost? He was correct, though. I was absolutely, undeniably lost.
