Fly Fishing the Brown Water Thu, 04 Sep 2008 09:02:11 +0200
As part of the continuing War on Terror - wherein our beloved government ensures we go to bed scared of our own shadow, major cities are securing their water supplies through deployment of the IAC 1090, Intelligent Aquatic Biomonitoring System.
Lt. Col. Matt Schofield, an environmental scientist at the U.S. Army Center for Environmental Health [...]
Wed, 03 Sep 2008 09:02:20 +0200 Aquaponics mates fish and vegetables to produce a living ecosystem where the byproducts of each feed the other. "Symbiosis" is the technical term, and fish effluent - assisted by bacteria becomes fertilizer to grow vegetables. Of course no one is going to suspect the Salmon for crapping in the Petunias - it'll be some poor brownline fish that gets the blame for the next big Ecoli epidemic...
Tue, 02 Sep 2008 09:02:12 +0200 I finally managed to seduce a couple of Carp on the Little Stinking this weekend, compliments of the San Juan Worm. Big fish and trout rods are not ideal, but I suffered through burnt fingers and swearing and managed to land the beast. I'm not thinking I've got anything figured out, just glad the both of us prove mortal - and that with the proper flies and terminal gear I might be able to catch a few more.
Sun, 31 Aug 2008 05:45:22 +0200 Southern California fishermen get entangled in a tuna pen, trapped inside for 12 hours - they break out the tackle and stomp life out of host of bluefin tuna while three different governments wrangle over jurisdiction.
Fri, 29 Aug 2008 09:02:57 +0200 The deductive process is a place to start -but like most customers I have conflicting requirements. I need a small olive clam with a hint of movement, and the requirements offer a place to start. With a three day weekend on the horizon I may be able to work through a number of variations - hoping to draw ever closer to a solution on my Carp feeding conundrum.

Wayne Mumford over at Willfishforwork.com sent me a quick note on the 2008 Northern Pikeminnow Sport Reward Program. Factoring in the special rules for September - all I need is a patron willing to front me a grubstake.
This ain’t Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel, I just need enough to keep me in beef jerky [...]

I think I’ve been outed … as I had the choice of painstakingly researching today’s post or scoring free food. You guy’s lost - but that holds for the bulk of my work..
A.Wannabe.Travelwriter lured some unsuspecting landowner into thinking we represented a charitable organization, and they gave us pillaging rights to all the Black [...]
Wed, 27 Aug 2008 09:02:47 +0200 New fishing buddies always have some uncertainty involved, as sometimes the desire expressed at the watercooler isn't matched by deeds. Finding out the cook for the expedition is content to warm Polish Sausage by sunlight has me holding my gut in mock terror. What have I done - and will I survive the trip?
Tue, 26 Aug 2008 09:02:22 +0200 With 45 pounds of free Garlic coloring my kitchen, I had an urge to kill me some bass this weekend. Almost lived up to the plan - but the sight of that swirling green water, with the hint of flavors never tasted by Mortal Man proved too much. It's drinking water for some - but it's enough to give me pause.
Mon, 25 Aug 2008 09:02:07 +0200 A long hike and a quick bath results in more carp frustration. Plenty of smallmouth bass willing to eat, but the carp continue to thumb their nose at my best efforts. Chatted with a local landowner about rattlesnakes, how thick they are in the creek bottom. Adds that last bit of pucker needed to keep me vigilant and in the water wherever possible.
