Don't avoid Times Square at any cost, it is a great place, just be aware!!
I don't understand why tourists continually come to New York, eat at some stupid chain restaurant like Applebees in Times Square, and then come home saying, New York is so expensive!

While Chinatown may have excellent restaurants, groceries and few shops, many of those open shops (I don't even feel that they can be called shops) are complete rip-offs.
like roller coasters, but the closest I've got to Disney World is Blackpool Pleasure Beach on a rainy weekend.
Just say NO to Tony's Audio Tours at Empire State !

Don't even think about eatiing or drinking around the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre. It's outrageous. Drinks - alcoholic and non-alcoholic are outrageously expensive in nightclubs. If you're going out clubbing, make sure you do your drinking beforehand! Be prepared to PAY for an umbrella if you get caught in...

Don't use the Fiaker (those carriages with two pulling horses) if you don't have money burning a hole in your pocket. They're expensive - I think you'll pay € 100 for an hour and about € 50 for a small tour through the Altstadt. The Fiaker will let off some...
