Goals. Most people have a love-hate relationship with goals. They love them because they are such a great idea and a wonderful way to motivate us to achieve, as well as evaluate our progress, but hate them because for many, they more often than not go unattained and simply frustrate them. This isn't what goals should do!

So here are some simple ways to set goals so that we achieve them! After all, what good is a goal if it isn't something you achieve? Here are some simple steps you can take to make sure that you see change in your life this year.

Narrow your focus. That's right, start small. Pick two or three areas tops, that you want to work on. Too many people say to themselves, "I want to do this, and this, and this, and this..." and they end up doing nothing! Most of what you do throughout your day can be done without a lot of mental or emotional exertion, but change isn't one of them. So focus down to a couple. This way you can get some victory in these areas.

Here are some areas to think about: Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Spiritual, Financial, and Relational. What areas need some work? Now, what one thing should be the first item on the change list? The others will come later, but for now, you should focus on two or three total.

I’d like to speak a little about targeted traffic. Targeted traffic is specific traffic that is most likely to be interested in what you have to offer. If I am selling shoes then I want to target people who are barefooted and in need of foot protection. But I know everyone needs shoes but my point is I would have a hard time selling tools to a writer. I would want to target my offer of tools to mechanics because they would be interested. I would not then hang out at libraries but at repair shops and maintenance facilities because that is where mechanics are found.

The point is to be sure you are making your offer in a place where people who would be interested are hanging out. I have heard some say that Traffic Exchanges or Hit Exchanges and Safe List are a waste of time. That just is not true as there are thousands upon thousands of people who use them. They are the cheapest form of advertising on the Internet today. Is free cheap enough?

Traffic exchanges and safe list provide a very powerful way of:

- Putting your product or service in front of a very diverse audience

- Seeing what other folks are promoting

- Getting an idea of how your competition is targeting their campaigns

- Branding your name, gather leads, and yes, even make sales

There are drawbacks to Traffic Exchanges and Safe List. People who use traffic exchanges and safe list are there for one thing and that is to bring traffic to their web site or present their offer to an audience. That in the process of viewing pages they are not really paying attention but just watching the timer so they can click to the next page and receive credit. You have 10 to 30 seconds to attract someone’s attention to your offer. You are not going to get some one to read a whole web page or watch a video in that amount of time. Yet squeeze pages that are direct and to the point do very well on traffic exchanges and safe list as well. You need to have a squeeze page no larger than the space of the computer screen viewing it, presents an offer that the viewer wants and a way to get it now with out interrupting their surfing. A squeeze page with and email capture form code is the exact tool that is needed here. You must remember that people using traffic exchanges are Internet marketers so your offer must be of interest to them.

There is much competition out there. Who is the competition? They are scams, get-rich-quick schemes, empty promises, liars & cheaters, and they are in a feeding frenzy and looking for you. It's a war against you in an effort to get you to doing anything but what is sound, practical, professional and right.

I certainly understand the caution one must have before entering into a program that requires an investment. I have lost thousands to get rich quick schemes and programs that promised all kinds of good things but delivered none of them. There is plenty of that to be found on the web filled with all the hype and promises of the big bucks. They are selling a dream based on peoples desire for wealth and the impatience people have to achieve it. The truth is that it is a business just like the corner store and it takes investment, time and persistence to build and grow it. Most people are not willing to do that and this is the reason that 97% of Internet marketers fail. This is why there are so many quick get rich schemes because they feed off that little green greed monster that we all have. Anyone who has a web page rather it is just for amusement or offering products or services wants and needs traffic. What’s the since of putting all that work into a web page if no one is ever going to see it. If you are offering something then you need interested people to come by and consider that offer. Hopefully buy what you are offering and providing you a profit and a living. Let’s face it, if nothing is sold then nothing is gained and it all becomes a big waste of time.

One thing that is needed above all else when you have a web business is a steady flow of leads viewing your offers. Lead generating systems are the tools needed most on the Internet. We must have customers, customers and more customers coming to our site and purchasing what we have to offer. If our page ranking is high enough some may find us through the Google and Yahoo search engines. Most likely we will have to find more creative ways to drive traffic to our sites.

Viral marketing methods are a very effective way to attract traffic to our web sites where they can view our offer. A good viral marketing plan consists of six basic elements to attract leads.

First you have to offer something of value to the prospective lead and give it to them for free in exchange for their name and email address. Not junk but something that is worth something and can be used by that prospect that they may profit from. They will be appreciative for the gift and in return a bond will form between you and that person. That gift could be useful information on a topic of interest to them that will educate them and better their efforts in that area. With in that information place your link to your offer that is related to the information you have already provided. You could follow up with regular emails explaining how your offer combined with the information you have given would profit them even grater. Eventually the will agree with your argument and buy from you or opt out. Statistically about 20% will buy your offer and remain on your list. Those who buy from you once are the ones who will buy from you again. They are yours to continue building a business relationship with.

Secondly in this fast passed world people want things instantly. Your free offer must be easily and quickly transferable. Through the magic of the Internet digital products such as eBooks and reports are instantly transferable and also durable. With a simple form code and auto-responder once an email is entered the information is quickly transferred. The recipient does not need to wait a few days or a week to get what they want. The information is passed quickly and can be passed on just as quickly.

Thirdly then this is a system that can grow from small to large quickly. What was passed to the first quickly now can be passed on just as quickly. Word of mouth is the best form of advertisement there is. Also for those who accept you offer it is easy for them to duplicate and grow their own business from yours profiting them and you as well. If it worked for you then it will work for those in your down line and the down lines that grow beyond.

Fourthly Viral Marketing exploits human motivations causing it to move through the masses. The human motivations of the need to be cool or ahead of others, the desire to be popular and even the fact that greed drives many people. All of these factors will cause your Viral Marketing to explode.

Learn to place your message into existing communications between people, and you rapidly multiply its dispersion. If they have found a program that they are passionate about they will pass it along with in their network of associations.

How do we get leads? How do we turn those leads into buyers? You just can’t put a page on the Internet and expect Google or Yahoo to drive traffic to it. There are, well probably as many pages out there as there are stars in the sky. So how do you get someone to visit your page? It is said they have to visit your page at least seven times before they buy your offer. You must have excellent Web Presence for someone to just stumble across your page. If you not at least on the first, second or third page of Google or Yahoo in the search engine you don’t have hardly a chance. So just how do you get Leads?

One way is you can buy them. There are plenty of lead companies out there that will sell you leads. Some of these Lead Generation companies are good sources for leads and some are just plain junk. Some Lead Generation Companies trick folks into signing up for a list and then sell their email address to everyone. The people on that list have no idea what is coming at them and probably will not even read your email ad. Some sign up for a list about golf techniques and get email about bird watching. You couldn’t sell me anything on bird watching; I have no interest in that.

There are some companies that will send your offer to a targeted lead group and that does work a lot better. These are CPM (Cost Per Thousand) companies that target your offer to a group that would be interested in what your offer is about.  That is a good way to go and I have profited from that and believe you will too. But as for me I don’t like to pay someone to do what I can do for myself. I get my leads the good old-fashioned way I prospect for them myself.

There are some things to consider before starting your Marketing adventure. Is there a Market for what you are offering? The best way to find out is to Google it. I really love Internet Marketing because of the freedom we have to use our own creativeness and ingenuity in presenting our offers. Already this year I am ahead of last year in conversion rates and believe the market is ripe for explosion. So many people out there have decided to take the economics of this uncertain economy to task. Providing more independence for themselves in determining their financial future and building a business of their own allowing them to control their financial destiny.
