It started with two professionals doing what they do best: the first, premier photographer Greg Williams, was taking pictures of the second, George Clooney in Tokyo for luxury Swiss watchmaker Omega. George Clooney was . . . being George Clooney.

Greg Williams, who is known both as one of the world’s best behind-the-scenes entertainment photographers and as a photojournalist of exceptional ability, captured the moment on film: the world’s sexiest man, looking slightly less glamorous than usual, wearing a watchmaker’s loupe and lab coat, staring intently at the camera. Along with “movie star” images of George Clooney, Omega was delighted to see their brand ambassador cast convincingly in the role of watchmaker. Slightly tongue-in-cheek recruitment copy was added to the image under the headline, “Watchmakers wanted”, inviting skilled applicants to consider challenging positions at Omega.

Interviewed later about his foray into watchmaking, George Clooney said, “I think that the watchmakers down there felt a little uneasy with my skill. They started off with, ‘Yeah, let’s let George come in and play around’ but after I put three or four of the watches together I think they realized that perhaps they were in for some heavy competition.”

Corum will be exhibiting a model from this collection, its latest Admiral’s Cup Challenge 44 chronograph, from 7 to 9 December in Paris, on the occasion of the first edition of “Belles Montres”, at the Salon International de l’Horlogerie de Prestige in the unique setting of the Carrousel du Louvre. Here, the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie will be presenting for the first time in Paris its mission and activities through a unique exhibition entitled: “The chronograph, an expression of our modern times”.

This will be an opportunity for Corum, as a partner brand of the FHH, to present itself to a large audience who will be able to discover a world habitually reserved for a privileged clientele or devotees of fine luxury watchmaking.

The “Golden Hand” Grand Prix Prize, the most prestigious of all, was awarded to the RM012 watch, by Richard Mille. The latter received the trophy created by internationally renowned artist Roger Pfund.

Steinway & Sons is one of the most famous piano manufactures. They are making these high-end instruments since 1853. A watch that carries this name needs to be very sophisticated.

Fabrizio Cavalca was the reason Steinway & Sons to consider to give their name for a wristwatch. He crosses the music and watch world. There are automatic and diamond set models of the Steinway watches available. The dial features a grand piano sound board shape in either 18k white gold, yellow gold or 18kt red gold (depending on case) with 12 hand-fitted strings.

The quartz movement of the ladies diamond set models allows for a smaller and thinner case and the 140 scintillating diamonds on its soundboard bring the watch alive with brilliant sparkles of light.

The Swiss automatic movement is a customised ETA 2000 - a movement also used by Cartier in some of their wristwatches - and while it may be expected that the majority of clients for these timepieces will be more interested in the brand and case and dial design rather than the calibre within, turning the watch over reveals an intriguingly gilded-black rotor and bridge.

At the advent of the 20th century, American watchmakers dominated the field, producing watches of superior craftsmanship, reliability and simplicity. 100 years later, the Montana Watch Company has re-established this commitment to quality with a truly unique American timepiece. The Montana Watch Company is committed to the time-honoured values of craftsmanship and handcrafts each timepiece in Livingstone, Montana.

Montana maintains a small inventory of watches but also undertakes private commisions - built to order as designed as you wish. The picture shows The Colt model; each case is machined from solid stock, grade 2 titanium, and engraved in the Western single-point style. The chiselled scrollwork is then dovetailed with a technique known as "back-cutting". 24K gold wire is pounded into the grooves with classic inlay relief. The case is finished by hand with emory and cloth polished. The case is carefully torched until it takes on the vintage gun-blue colour, then quenched in an oil bath for the final finish.

The second OMEGA limited edition model commemorating next year’s Olympic Games in Beijing will be launched on 25 October 2007, 288 days before the Opening Ceremony. The collection, based on the phenomenally successful OMEGA De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph Ladies’, comes in three colours alluding to the Olympic podium: yellow gold, white gold and red gold.

OMEGA and the Olympic Games have been inextricably linked for the past 75 years, ever since the famous Swiss watch company became Official Timekeeper to the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Next year will be the 23rd time OMEGA has taken on that responsibility, a tribute to its precision and reliability.
Now, in honour of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, OMEGA is unveiling a special collection of watches for distribution in China and certain selected OMEGA stores worldwide. The theme for OMEGA’s new collection revolves around the number “8”, considered a lucky one in China.

The collection was launched on 8 August this year with the Constellation limited edition, and following the launch of the three gold ladies’ De Ville chronographs there will be subsequent limited edition launches 188 days, 88 days and eight days before the Games, with the sixth and final launch on the day the Olympic Games begin, 08/08/2008. The number of models available in each limited edition varies, but the figure will always end in an “8”. Thus 288 of the new De Ville ladies’ watches have been made in each of the three colours.



Along with the white mother-of-pearl dial and alligator strap, the fundamental characteristics of the OMEGA De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph Ladies’ are all there: the 0.08-carat diamond briolette set on the crown; the polished 18-carat gold bezel set with 42 diamonds; the elliptical chronograph counters; the 35mm case; and the exclusive OMEGA Calibre 3313 with Co-Axial escapement.

But of course it is the differences that make this model part of the Beijing Collection. Whether yellow gold, white gold or red gold, each has 18-carat gold dial and hands to match the case; the hour markers are set with one, two or three diamonds; and there are gold outer rings on the counters and white Super-LumiNova on the hands. On the counterweight of the chronograph seconds hand are the five Olympic rings, while stamped on the caseback is the Beijing 2008 logo – both characteristics common to all six of the OMEGA Olympic Collection limited edition lines.

The third in the series, a special piece from OMEGA’s celebrated Seamaster collection, will be launched on 2 February 2008, 188 days before the Games.
