Ok, so I am sorry that I was ass-late in uploading this episode.  It is over three hours long and I have been taking my time on getting it up.  I am sorry, and it won't happen again.  In this episode my best friend, Suds, joins me in the studios.  We have a pretty good time talking about the music, our friendship, my ability to talk her into almost anything (the 'almost" means everything but sleeping with me), and my future plans.  For the record I did not get the job in Hawaii yet, but it is still a big possibility.  

We also discuss the addition of Larry, WPLMR's first staff writer.   He conceptualized three of the sketches and wrote the fourth.  I am very excited to have him on the team, and trust me you are in for a real treat.  Look for him to begin taking a more active role in the text version of the WPLMR blog, as well as co-hosting and working on WPLMR viral elements.  Welcome aboard Larry.

The Good, The Bad, and The Palmer

So, this was the second episode that I have edited with the new rig.  I am getting better with making sure the audio is at a more consistent level.  The key seem to be making sure that all dialog is recorded in mono and that the new microphone is set for unidirectional recording.  The only real thing that seems to still happen is when I change the pitch of a voice, the level seems to drop-this being most obvious during the bumpers at the end of the sketches.  I really think that I am better when I have a cohost, so hopefully when I do make it out to Hawaii Larry will be willing to pick up that responsibility. 

Also I have to admit how nice it was having a second brain to help come up with ideas for the show.  I really think that the addition of Larry is going to make a huge difference with the show.  I am also looking for a streamlined way to write these show notes.  So be prepared, they will be different next time, right now I have been working on this almost as long as it took to edit together the final mix of the episode.  Ok, Palmer signing off.  I promise the August episode will be up in time, by August 10.  Don't forget to send me the rules to your version of the WPLMR drinking game.

WPLMR has officially gained its first staff writer!

This afternoon (HST) Palmer and Larry hammered out the details of Larry becoming a permanent fixture of the PLMR staff.  By "hammered out" I mean I said, "Hey how would you like to help me write sketches and co-host on a semi-regular basis."  Then he said, "Awesome."  That is as official as we get.  Needless to say Lary is now a member of the WPLMR staff, brining the total number to 2.

In addition to helping me write bits, Larry is also going to write text blog entries on the WPLMR.com site.  Not only will he begin gaining stardom on a podcast that nobody listens to (LIE, we have had an amazing 500+ downloads), Larry has also had the remainder of his compensation package completed...namely his likeness portrayed as a cartoon.

The rest of us at WPLMR, namely me, would like to thank Larry for joining the staff.  We (I) know he will be a great addition to our (my) team.  You will get your first taste of Larry's work on the upcoming episode 6, set to launch on July 6, 2008.  It won't be one to miss.  If you want a sampling of his work to date then head over to his current blog on myspace here.

Guy Behind the Guy posted the second part of his interview with me.  I just wanted to thank him for his time and effort putting that together.  You can read the second part of the interview here.

This episode of WPLMR is probably my favorite to date. This episode is co hosted with B.V. one of my coworkers. She was really fun to have in the studio, and was a true thespian. To top it all off she is hot, has no problems talking about genitalia, cusses like a sailor, and wants to have her own radio show called Twat Talk. I know what you are thinking, and youâre too late...she is already married. Also in this episode I added a new feature: WPLMR Artist Spotlight. I will have these segments as much as possible where I will interview a band that I have featured on a past episode. This episode I talked to Ben Cohen, lead singer from Convey. I featured the single Colorblind back on WPLMR Episode 1. I want to thank Ben and Convey for taking the time to talk with me. The Good, the bad, and the Palmer

Like I said, this episode really knocked my socks off. I really think B.V. hit it out of the park, and I am really going to revisit the idea of Twat Talk. Technically speaking, this episode seems a lot stronger and was more easier to put together than some of the past ones. This is greatly thanks to the purchase of my new computer. I have upgraded my rig. The LCD went out on my laptop, so I bought an iMac. Garageband is amazing. Although, I still like having total freedom in Audacity. I still have to play with garageband to learn how to do some of the things I was used to doing in Audacity...but I think that the show will benefit from the upgrade. I also purchased a new microphone. I got a Blue Snowball USB microphone, it was about $40 cheaper than my MXL .006 and I think the quality is a whole lot better. The only complaint I have is the fact that the sketches and the talking parts are so much quieter than the music. I am not sure how I can fix this, I even had Garage Band normalize and it didnât help. I just have to play with it. If you have suggestions, considering you made it down this far, let me know.

Fair warning this is a long one, so be sure to give it time to download.  In this special edition of WPLMR, Palmer is joined by independent singer songwriter David Ullman.  Dave and Palmer have been friends for about 10 years now, and since Dave has just released his debut full-length album Dog Days, they thought WPLMR to be the perfect venue to help spread Dave's seedâerrr, sound. 

 

Listen as the two banter like none have bantered before them, as four tracks from Dave"s album start off each block of music, and as Dave is locked in Palmerâs studio where he is forced to take part in Palmerâs own brand of sick humor-plus a WPLMR first, a live rendition of the song "In Dreamsâ? by Dave himself.  The result: nearly 2.5 hours of great music, good laughs, and proof that episodes of WPLMR are getting better each time.

Reflection:

I would really like to thank Dave for giving up a Saturday to hang out and record this and for being such a good sport.  There arenât too many friends who would pretend to be a pedophiliac version of one of the most beloved Star Wars characters (By the way, Mr. Lucas if you ever happen to hear about that, know that I meant no disrespect, hope you have a good sense of humor about it, I donât really believe that Yoda did anything freaky with the younglings).

Reflection:

 

I would really like to thank Farley and my brother for their positive and very constructive criticisms of the beta episode.  Both of them really had great advice that was both helpful and very accurate.  I kept Farleyâs handwritten list next to my computer while I put this episode together.  Both he and my brother boiled it down to the fact that though the music was great, the beta episode really didnât capture who I wasâand I agreed with them completely.  So, I really work on this episode and am completely happy with itâa few minor technical problems asideâlike having to take apart my laptop to do a memory upgrade so I could render all the tracks togetherâbut in the end I was riding in my car listening to the sample mp3 and laughing my ass offâand I like to follow my moms old rule, if you think something you do is funny then someone else probably willâso laugh.

The Good, The Bad, and The Palmerâ

 

I played with the levels on this episode a lot, and I think I got it pretty much worked out.  Next time I may have my vocals set a little lowerâI also think I may try to avoid using the Audacity noise remover, as it tended to make my vocals sound a little metallic.  There are also some bookkeeping things that had some bugs, that I feel have been pretty much ironed out.  I think this is a pretty good episode, and the process is just going to get better and easier over time.
