I've been in a new job for just over 5 months and have found that I can spend a few days working on something only to find that my boss can make 2 phone calls and complete the same task!

Granted he has worked in the job for 10+ years. How do I stop beating myself up about this?

I worked very hard in 2007 to become a skilled manager within a telecoms operations department. I had a review with a panel and I did not sell my achievements well enough to be given a pay rise.

Do you think that its fair to have the work of 1 year evaluated in 20 minutes? Should I rethink if the company I work for I giving me to opportunity I and others feel I deserve?

Thanks, Andrew Evans

I am returning to work after being made redundant in August but I keep being asked to submit a personal skills statement along with my CV. Any tips or examples of the layout and what to put in it.

Thank you, Annette

I was sacked very unfairly in December last year, it's first time I have had ANY blemish on my CV, but I am finding it extremely difficult to get another job, especially when they are informed that I was sacked for gross misconduct.

I have lots of experience and feathers in my cap but am unsure where to go now?

help!

I am looking to return to employment after 2 years of successful self employment. However I don't know what kind of information to write on my CV in regards to these two years. Can you please give me some tips and the kind of things employers would be looking for?

Thank you,

Nasim

Hi guys,

Having done some years in the armed forces and then moved onto production work, I have found myself in Retail for the last 8 years and now want to get out. I enjoy and want to get into Training & Development but have no qualifications in that area, despite doing it in every role I have ever had. Additionally, I can't get time away from work to do a course.

Suggestions please!

I was TUPE'd across around 4 years ago and have remained at the same work place since then. My employers are now asking me to call into work on a day that is not my usual working day. They are also altering my job description.

Can they do this?

I am 49 and work in local government and feel stuck. I have been treading water in my career for the last year to the point where my confidence has drained away.

Recently I decided not to apply for a promotion post which would have paid well and given me more challenge - because I was unsure if I was up to the task. I seem to be trapped now between feeling stale and de-motivated in my current job, but feeling anxious about new opportunities - particularly those that involve managing more people. Any suggestions on how I break out of this situation?

Paul.

I fancy my boss something rotten. We're both single, in our late thirties and work at a well-known financial institution in the City. I don't mind being rejected if I decide to ask him out but I really don't want it to affect my career. Please help

I want to resign from my job and I've never written a resignation letter before. Do I explain why I want to leave (that could get to sound a bit bitter) or should I just state the obvious. I'm actually going to a rival company and I know it won't be accepted with good grace but I'd rather explain in writing than have to explain myself in person.

Very often I get into work early to do some admin chores such as pay my bills, write correspondence or send personal emails. If I'm at my desk an hour before I'm contractually supposed to start - if my boss asks me to do some work - is it okay to say that I'm busy but will do it when I'm supposed to start? Or does he have cause to complain?
At school I was never sure what I wanted to do. Now I know that I want to be a mechanic but the colleges say I have to be in the trade. I can't give up my current job as I have financial commitments and I'm too old for an apprenticeship. Do you know of any night courses available in Essex?
I have just started a new job, when interviewed for the job I explained one of the reasons for me wanting to leave my last job was the fact that I was not seeing much of my family due to shift patterns. In the interview I asked about shift patterns and was told that there were 3 shifts but he was undecided on how he would work these they are 8-4 9-5 and 1-9. Now I have started work I have found out that some of the people work 8-4, 1-9, 9-5, 1-9. If I knew this was the case I would not have taken the job and I think my boss knows that, also he only issues a rota once a week for a week and he issues this on the Friday for the coming Monday, if you are on shift work is there a minimum length a rota should be issued for and how much notice do you need to inform your employees?
I moved here from Zimbabwe at the end of February. At the end of March I was employed by another ex Zimbabwean who runs a small Company. I was hired as a Contracts Manager. In June, I was reassigned a role as Administration Manager as my Employer thought it a better role. However having now completed my 3 months probation he wants me to do another 2 months. I'm concerned that if I don't "fit in with his plans" in 2 months after trying me in another role he may terminate my employment. What should I do & can he make me rework more probation?
Brad has risen through the ranks and has been with the company for 12 years. He has been groomed to be next in line for the president's job. The company is in the 21st century and technologically Brad's skills are old school. Chantal has been with the company a couple of years straight from grad school. She is technology savvy and has a vision for the future. I am sure that Brad can do the job, but Chantal can move the company forward. My dilemma is should I hire Brad (out of loyalty) or Chantal as the next president?
