System Administrator - Oracle Developer
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Experience in working with database applications supporting accounting and procurement functions or resource planning and tracking systems in a service contract environment for Federal Government customers is required.
Experience in and knowledge of Federal service contract financial systems is also highly desirable.

Oracle RAC Database Administrator/Engineer
Our client is a prestigious Investment Bank with a mandate to build a new database solution from scratch to support their entire Sales and Trading (Fixed Income and Equities) business environment. This is a literal greenfield where no Oracle technology has existed previously. If this build-out is successful, they will use this as the template for the organization enterprise wide. They have a number of DBAs on the team so far that have a good understanding of Oracle databases but not in an Oracle RAC environment. Specifically, they need candidates that have a minimum of a 4-node RAC environment but really would like to see 6+ nodes RAC experience. Some of the optional skills include Dataguard, security (Kerberos), recovery manager, the grid controller (RMAN), replication and the performance packs. Anyone who joins this team will have to understand that they will be on call for escalation issues on a global basis. They have a first level support group but anything that is RAC related, the DBA group will handle. This will be done on a rotational basis. They are looking for RAC experience that is beyond what the Oracle documentation provides. They want real world experience. The operating system on the RAC cluster is Linux but any form of Unix would suffice. If a candidate is exclusively RAC with Windows, that will not suffice. This Sales and Trading group will consist of large Oracle databases for the trade capture portion and a data warehouse of several terabytes to house the historical data. This group is supporting the business area that is investing the most in new technology within the firm.
They are looking to hire 4 of these DBA/Engineers in NYC and in London. The emphasis here is not on the DBA side but on the engineering side. For example, the design of the logical model is something that the business unit is doing with Oracle consulting. So table design is not so much of a requirement, however, a good engineer will be able to look at a table design and say that these are the performance implications and other trade-offs and they might want to consider an alternative table design.
The must skills here are Oracle RAC and strong command line scripting skills. Oracle 10.2 or 11 experience a must. No leadership skills are required but it would be helpful.
The first project that these candidates will be involved with is to help figure out the first release of the cluster. They will build a test cluster and then a production cluster. This will happen over the first few months. This will happen after they acclimate themselves to the environment. You will be able to specialize in certain areas of interest while still be involved in the overall project. The database team is currently about 80 strong. The end-user group this project will involve is in the thousands.
Sound communication skills are important.
Financial Services experience is not essential. What is essential is a large, high volume/high transaction environment. 24/7 availability experience is very important. Database performance and engineering in an Internet experience is also a big plus.
