We’ve all been there - working our selves to the bone trying to make some extra cash over the holidays or making some extra money during out studies. The minimum wage is part of starting out in the working world. Some of us have to accept it as a fact of life as we try to get up the ladder from scratch.
Being paid below the minimum wage is unacceptable however! Its just no plausible and YOU should not accept it!
The Loch Fyne restaurant group in the UK reportedly pay its staff rates below the minimum wage. It relies on customer tips to pay to a lawful level. I’ll bet even the managers seek relief from this!
Would Gordon Brown accept a wage below his pay grade with tips for winning by-elections to pay him at the normal level? I don’t think so. He doesn’t seem to be winning many these days!

According to a report released by SecondPost.com, businesses may get more out of their employees if they try and match their working hours to their body clocks, i.e. by taking a power nap and offering flexi hours.
I agree that as long as work is done to meet deadline then it should not matter when the work is actually done, however, I think that this would create a more lazy culture and give more opportunities for say younger employees to skive off and get away with it!

Everyone needs a goal to focus on, heck, even double Open Champion Padraig Harrington has set a list of exclusive goals for himself only the morning after winning the coveted Claret Jug for the second year in succession, a feat that no other European has managed for 102 years.
So, how much inspiration can we take from his positive outlook on the future?
Setting yourself goals, no matter how small is an excellent way to achieving what you want.
When starting out to look for a job, break it down in to manageable parts:-
- update / create your CV
- register with good recruitment sites
- search and apply for suitable jobs
- work on your interview technique

As Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has said today it will shed 2,000 jobs worldwide over the coming year - is this the mark of more bad things to come in the telecommunications industry?
Is anyone else fed up hearing new like this?!
I for one am. I think we just have to grit it out and stay as positive as possible during these tough times.

Figures released today paint a worrying picture of how things are going with unemployment.
There are definitely jobs out there but is it that people are just not qualified enough or are they too lazy to get out there and make something of themselves?
Or is it more than that – are we too scared to move on?
Just under a month ago I reported that unemployment had risen by 38,000 to 1.64 million in the 3 months to April – UK unemployment rises by 38,000
Now unemployment is reported as rising by 12,000 to 1.62 million in the three months to May, according to the Office for National Statistics.
