The market has once again failed to break the 200 XMA. Traders found this as a good excuse to begin profit taking around 1:30 pm yesterday. We have some economic data today (Initial Claims, Philly Fed, etc.) and JCP earnings before the bell. We'll see if the bulls can hold their conviction and push us up above the 200 XMA or will the bears continue to control the momentum.

Microsoft dropping its bid for Yahoo set the mood for trading today. Although we had a good ISM Index #, most traders saw today as a good day to take profits after Friday's big move. We do not have any significant economic data tomorrow. So we may see the true sentiment of the bulls and bears. Who will win?

Well, yesterday we pointed out that the Nasdaq a/Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Website/Podcast/2008/April/Week of April 27th/AccendoTraders Stock Market report for April 27th.m4vnd SPX still had a bit to go to break out of the consolidation pattern of this year. Specifically the SPX was at key resistance levels. After Friday's big move up, testing days and profit taking make sense. Last week we held the support of the open of the big move up. Will Friday's big move up stand. We'll see tomorrow as Earnings will continue to rule day with AAPL after the close.

What a difference a week makes! Last week we had the doom and gloom story brought on by the GE earnings. This week we have hope and optimism brought on by IBM and GE Earnings. We do not have a lot of economic data this week. So earnings will once again rule the day.

Yesterday, the market was driven by earnings. Although we had high inflation data, the JNJ earnings pushed the market higher along with a comment from the CEO of Lehman's about not needing money and liquidity is fine. He also said the worse is behind us. Oh yeah, then he said we'll be borrowing money from the government tomorrow - ha ha ha. Anyway, Intel, although missing earnings, had an upbeat guidance after the close which has led to the futures being up. We have more earnings today (JPM in particular) that I think people want to see and more inflation data. We held support yesterday. Let's see where we go today.

Financials once again rained on our parade. Wachovia missed earnings big and brought the market down. The DOW and the SPX are still ever so slightly above the open of April 1st. We'll see if this support holds tomorrow as we begin to get inflation data with PPI coming out tomorrow am.

The market has once again reached a pivotal point. GE earnings sent the market into a downfall on Friday. The DOW and SPX were unable to reach the top of the downtrend channel and now appear to be heading back down to the middle of the channel or lower. The only news that might move the market tomorrow is Retail Sales #'s. Watch 1310-1330 for support for the SPX in the middle of this channel.

Well, if you look at the numbers at the end of the day you would have missed one heck of a ride. The Nasdaq came out of the box firing off of a sector upgrade on semiconductors. Then, Walmart raised its 1st quarter guidance. But, then the roller coaster started. UP and down for a couple hours. Well, we still may have confirmed the rising 3/mat hold pattern. All major indexes bounced off the 20 XMA. We'll see where the traders take us tomorrow.

The market consolidated back to the short term uptrend line; however, it is important to note that yesterday's retracement came with more volume. Today may be driven by the retail same store numbers. All of the major indexes retraced to the 20 XMA. We'll see where the traders will take us today.

We have another consolidation day with lighter volume. By the technical definition, this is still a bullish pattern. We have also not broken the short term uptrend line. No major news tomorrow. So we'll see which way the traders want to go.

We discussed the downtrend channel for the DOW and SPX yesterday. Today started off very nice and bullish but at about 1:00 PM the market began selling off with out any major news. The sell-off also occurred as these two indexes approached the top of that channel and resistance. With not much news tomorrow (FOMC minutes released @ 2:00 pm), we'll see if more profit taking occurs.

The market had a nice move up this week. The major portion of the push up occurred on Tuesday. We had a sideways move since then on lighter volume which by definition is bullish. Please keep in mind what we have been saying here. We are short term bullish but still long term bearish. In the video you will see we are still below the downtrend line started in October of last year. The past two weeks pushed us up to the top portion of that channel. Let's see what will be the catalyst to push us higher or lower.

It's the weekend baby. We had a good week. The major indexes are setting up nice rising 3 candle patterns. Tomorrow, however, we have major market moving news with Jobs Data. Nonfarm payroll is expected to be weak, but how weak is too weak. We'll find out in the morning.

We mentioned yesterday that we expected a consolidation day. For the most part, that is what we have. Now, it's time to see if the bulls will stand up and move the market higher on many classic rising 3 patterns or will the bears step back in and push us back below the 50 XMA. Remember, we have good RIMM Earnings from after the close yesterday and Bernanke and other CEOs testifying today about the BSC debacle.

What a great day we had yesterday. The biggest point gain for the DOW on the first day of the quarter. Remember that for the past couple of weeks, the big up days have been followed by down days. Protect your profits and cash is a position.
