DJ Sloofus loves comic books. Schooly G hates them. Umbrellaman is only here for the beer. Listen to their podcast before you die.

After a much-needed rest, the Funnybook Dungeon webcomic has once again returned to the webwaves. Located at http://thefunnybookdungeon.blogspot.com, the series was revived by renowned indie/webcomicker Brad Hodges. His other, less "guilty by association"-ish works can be found at Derivative Comics. This, according to CBH Executor D. Hines Willabie, is merely the beginning of an upcoming Comic Book Haters media assault. "I think it's time," says Willabie. "Yup. I really think it's time."

Watchmen is a graphic novel which has garnered no small share of critical acclaim over the past twenty years. Some say it's a masterpiece. Some say it's a work of art. Some say love, it is a river. Most just tilt their heads back and whisper, "aaaahhhhhhh!" Nonetheless, until this very moment, none could say they knew the Comic Book Haters' thoughts on this particular book, first created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons during the leary years of the 1980s. Though just about everyone usually blows their loads over this book, this review is of a more critical nature. The Comic Book Haters give their instant reactions to this book. Be hear to listen in, as they share their accumulated idiocy.....

This fall, the Comic Book Haters popular video episode series, titled "The Comic Book Haters Indie Video Spotlight," will return. Each episode will feature a full-color visualization of the CBH team reviewing the periodical in question. Titles must fall under a loose "independent" umbrella, which includes basically anything ever printed in the comic book format.
The first season, which ran from spring to summer of 2008, dealt primarily with "character development and recognizability of the situationship between them," according to a press release from series co-creator DJ Sloofus. The exact details are as-yet unreleased, but it is believed another three-episode season will be produced. When approached for comment, Schooly G said, "I wasn't even approached for a comment; why would I give a fuck?" The new season of HTV will begin airing this September on the Comic Book Haters podcast network association.

Brushing aside the vulgar constraints of the illustrated medium for the time being, our stalwart crew of reviewists glance their questioning eyes towards an actual, honest-to-God "word book." A used, trashy copy of an old pulp noir-drug novel, "A Scent of White Poppies," gets the Business Class Suite treatment. What will their well-trained (though rarely groomed) opinions think of this selection? Risking the burden of being appropriated as a "spoilerizen" of the networked community: it's not even about comics, and Schooly still hates it. Don't take our words for it; see for yourself. Download the episode with this link, fellow travellers. Also this episode, the latest installment of our ever-expanding "2 Minute Hate" from YOU! The crabby CBH listeners! Get in on the fun, won't you?

To celebrate the fact that the proprietors of the Comic Book Haters podcast have just learned how to embed a streaming episode of their podcast, the CBH crew present: their Very First embedded streaming podcast! What better episode to start off with than the very first episode itself? Relieve the glory and wonderment of a bygone age, as Schooly G and DJ Sloofus meet for the very first time. The focus is on a comic from a bygone era: Desolation Jones, #4. Do they still publish Desolation Jones comics? Boy, I sure did love them when I was a kid. The crazy escapades he'd find himself in....

While bored in North Carolina recently, I finally finished reading David Hajdu's new account of the comic-book "witch hunt" of the 1950s. All in all, it presented a pretty good overview of the senate subcommittee hearings, the rise and fall of EC, and the events leading up to the decimation of the comic book market. As a history of the genre, it worked really well. If I had one complaint, however, it's that too much time was spent on the 'birth' of the comic book. This isn't really a valid criticism, since the subject matter fit perfectly with the book. However, being a huge fucking nerd, I got a little tired of reading the same old anecdotes and background about MC Gaines and Famous Funnies and all that shit.
As far as history books on comics go, this was one of the best I've read. It didn't dumb down the material; it didn't feel the need to justify itself simply for existing (so many can be boiled down to "we know comics are silly and goofy and all, but in this one Batman says a bad word!"). As an overview of the era, I'd highly recommend it. If you're an asshole like Schooly that hates comics, well, I'd suggest staying away.

Hey everybody. This week's episode is a little different. In our second installment of the CBH Summer Concert Series, we've put together a bunch of CBH tunes that we've had cluttering up the Funnybook Dungeon hard drives. Some you might recognize as we've used bits and pieces here and there on the show. Some you've never heard before. Here's the tracklisting:

1. Aquaman is Dead and It's Our Fault
2. If This Be My Destiny
3. The Superfriends Don't Give A Fuck
4. Somers Point Pimpin'
5. This Is The Comic Book Haters
6. Somers Point Pimpin' 2
7. Pop Pop Pop
8. Umbrellamanin' (Instrumental)
9. CBH is in the House
10. You Always Have All the Answers, Green Arrow
11. Back, Ye Minions of Hell
12. (You're) Having My Baby- by Comic Book Robot
13. A Man of Shadow (CBH Theme)

For their third video podcast, the Comic Book Haters crew have thrown out all of the barrels. They've also thrown away all of the sensical expressions, because no one in their right mind would ever discard of a proper barrel. Regardless, the focus this time is on a more conjointive effort; namely, the periodical known as Injury Comics #2. Published by the (allegedly) fine (allegeded) folks at Buenaventura Press, this comic is presented to Schooly G and Umbrellaman for the very first time. They're not comic fans, and they don't read comics. DJ Sloofus is, but will that be enough to persuade these nay-sayers? Witness the startling and honest reactions of these three gentlemen. See the results of a public which has turned its very back on funnybooks..... witness, the Comic Book Haters video podcast. Small, italicized font says that this episode will be available as a streaming Vimeo file later in the week.

The Comic Book Haters have launched their very own channel on Vimeo dot com. Vimeo, much like Youtube, is an internet (tm) based source for videos of self-mutilation and drunken stupors. Fortunately, the CBH crew have managed to combine both categories into one easily-relatable location. To access the entire library of CBH-related videos (including all forthcoming Indie spotlights and commercials) simply visit http://www.vimeo.com/cbh. Future plans include transporting the Cartoon Haters video podcasts, as well. All selections are available for instant viewing, or downloading to share later with friends and loved ones.
Why not bookmark the site for ease of future use? You won't always be this quick and nimble with your fingers, you know. Perhaps your future self would appreciate a readily-available bookmark, which sits just a click away. Furthermore, bookmarking the site might entice future, spontaneous visits. At the very least, it will remove the burden of a long-term memory task, freeing space for other, more important ventures.
P.S. - To celebrate the launching of the channel, we're broadcasting a brand-spanking new Indie Video Spotlight this Tuesday!

As part of their continuing "Summer Flop" series, the Comic Book Haters present a pilot episode for a CBH spinoff that never was. Titled "the Comic Book Laters," the show featured DJ Sloofus, DJ Whip Cream, and Jim DeLicious. The inagural (and sole) episode featured a recap of this summer's Wizardworld: Philadelphia. Both Schooly and Umbrellaman are on vacation this week, so please rejoice in a reconstituted image (carefully chosen at random from our files) and a Schooly-free listening zone. Future video episodes are currently in production, email the CBH podcast crew to submit your indie or small-press title. Small(er) publishers are also submitting, so don't be bashful. Here it is, the second fantabulous episode of the Comic Book Haters' Video Indie Spotlight! Shannon Smith is given the 'up close and personal' treatment by DJ Sloofus, Schooly G, and Umbrellaman. The Comic Book Haters - Commercial #1 from The Comic Book Haters on Vimeo.

INTERNET, USA: In a daring maneuver,* the Comic Book Haters podcast recently leapt into the realm of vidcast, with their very first Video Podcast. The episode was recognized across the land as a "thing of beauty," and won several lifetime achievement placards. Before that debut episode, however, a video commercial was produced. Two were, in fact. Unfortunately, cruel Mother Time has crashed her stern lash at the tired hand of history, leaving exact dates and statistics impossible to locate. What better time, then, for the CBH crew to test out their new Vimeo account? Feedback Question: Should the CBH remain the same, or change.... drastically?
*apologies to our more sensitive viewers for the unwarranted 'Frenchism'

The Comic Book Haters are on summer vacation this week! Don't fear, dear subscribers; the fun never stops, even when DJ Sloofus, Schooly and Umbrellaman are out of town! To mix business with treasure, the CBH crew have afforded this space to live musical recordings from members of their continually-static reaching audience. For your haurrible listening pleasure, please donate your earspaces to the live sounds of the Baconstrip 3, Southern New Jersey's finest space-garage combo. This concert is the first in a projected series (though not realistically projected, mind you) and was recorded live at the Grande Fromage in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This evening finds the quartet in a relaxed, melotropic mindset. Though the set is comprised primarily of original material, several standards are also featured, including 'Mack the Knife,' 'You Are So Beautiful,' and 'Tomorrow Never Knows.' Enjoy the show, rabid music fans! Delete, lesser-enthused music fans! If you have a recent recording of your band's performance, please email it to us for a future episode.

The Comic Book Haters are celebrating the Fourth of July in grand style, with the debut of their live-action Video Podcast. For the first time ever, on the very-small screen, see DJ Sloofus, Schooly G, and Umbrellaman review an actual comic book. The comic in question is Josh Latta's anthropomorphic sensation, "Rashy Rabbit." Latta has been creating Rashy stories for several years now, all of which are worthy of wider attention. Self-publishers who would like to be featured on future episodes of the CBH Video Podcast need only contact the administrators of this website for details.
A stern word of warning should be administered, however, due to the graphic nature of these three individuals. Though the dialogue and word choice leave much to be desired, the video accompaniment exceeds all bounds of good taste. Click here to watch it, fellow vision afficianadoes! Note: this file is designed to be viewed on iTunes or Quicktime, but most video players should work. If it doesn't work on the one you've chosen (or you only can hear it, with no video), try another one!

This week on the Comic Book Haters podcast, a special guest segment parlays itself through your soundholes.
With the impending Fourth of July fast upon us, what better time would surface to herald a look back at that concept which made the CBH crew a household surname: the Three Minute Hate?
The rules are easy. Hate for three minutes. Record yourself doing it. Not necessarily in that order. Our buddy Dirk DeBerk did so, and sent us along the results. Stay tuned until the end to hear a special message from DJ Sloofus to YOU!, the Crantafical CBH Listeners! And remember, the first Video Podcast debuts this Friday! In an overbloated attempt to "rustle up" some pre-publicity for their upcoming video-episode debut, the Comic Book Haters have unleashed a virtual landslide of promotional materials. In addition to the various bumper-stickers, handbills, and curley-queues which are permeating the Atlantic City area, a brand-new video commercial has also been created. Though the actual debut of the full-length video episode is still a week away (debuting on July Fourth, giving that once noble holiday yet another reason to be celebrated), a special promo video will be aired today. This commercial is provided on a limited-time basis, as a nuclear holocaust, Asian-borne epidemic, or collapsed financial economy is bound to render all of this silliness obsolete. Click here to download the commercial! Please note: the file is designed to play in iTunes, or on any video ipod. It also works in a bunch of other shit.

I close my eyes, only for a moment; and the moment's gone.

Jesus, I knew I put it somewhere. Fuck! Where is it?

All my dreams- pass before my eyes with curiosity.

What the fuck was that? No, not that. That was fuckin' weird...

Same old song: Just a drop of water in an endless sea.

Yeah, I'm always losing this shit. C'mon Schooly, keep it together.

All we do crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see.

Fuck! I ruined it again. I've got to start over.

Nothing lasts forever but the Earth and sky.

Shit, there it is! Click here to download this episode.

By the way, we review Kick-Ass and Daybreak in this episode.

Do you have a voice? Have you been using it on a regular basis? Can you read? Do you know how to send an email? Do you have a little time to kill? If you answered "yes" to even one of these questions, the Comic Book Haters have need of you! Currently in production is the CBH's next "pod-play," or audio-entertainment file! Those who thrilled to such previous endeavors as the Behind the Hatred special and the CBH Christmas Carol (google them) had but one overwhelming piece of feedback: How can I get in on the action?
Now, you can. If you'd like to do some voicework for the next installment of the CBH Ficto-play series, simply email thecomicbookhaters@yahoo.com with a sample of your talents. We recommend Audacity for recording, with the MP3 plugin for easy distribution. Simply record yourself saying the following line and send it along in an email. Note: several "readings" of the same line in one file is fine.
"Well, if they're not dead, they're doing a hell of a job faking it."
It's easy; it's fun, and no one even needs to know you did it. A full script of the upcoming venture will be provided to the chosen few, with each cast member's part individually highlighted. Be part of extraneous history!

INTERNET, Atlantic City - According to insiders at the Comic Book Haters audio podcast, the Comic Book Haters video podcast is "still right on track." The debut episode (of a proposed three part series) is set to air on local Atlantic City internet the weekend of July 4th, 2008. "It's pretty much done," says series co-host DJ Sloofus. "I mean, we kind of figured out what we're going to do. I think."
The show's resident crankmeister, Schooly G, was less optimistic: "I don't give a fuck about all this. Just go ask Sloofus." Perennial cut-up David Umbrellaman was not sought out for comment. "They didn't even bother to ask me what I thought," he was later overheard mumbling.
Although the podcast has utilized the video medium in the past, this forthcoming visual triptych embarks upon an entirely new era. "We thought the time had come," reveals Sloofus. "Plus, we got a video camera recently, and didn't really use it for much."
"I can vouch for the video camera part," confirmed G. "But as for everything else, who are you?" At this point in the interview, the proprietors politely declined our patronage, and the participants parted ways. Those interested in seeing the video episodes, which will feature only independent titles, can visit thecomicbookhaters.blogspot.com on July 4th. Anyone wishing to submit titles for future installments may send an electronic missive to thecomicbookhaters@yahoo.com.

In this crass world of capitalism and parimutuels, true individualism often finds no purchase. The never-ending tide of mediocrity, baneness, and utter ineptitude provides a shattering obstacle to pure artistic expression. Most components of this insurmountable mound of slooze are unaware of their very existence, let alone their lot in life. The Comic Book Haters, on the other hand, are not merely aware of their place as a cog in this unholy machine; they revel in it! Join the CBH crew as they embark untowards as-yet uncharted territories in the realm of all podcasting. Behold... the Vidcast! A visual podcast, featuring the very Comic Book Haters themselves, in glorious, digital pixelation rendered accurately and honestly by a nearby digital video recordex. Dare anyone travel backwards into time to supplant this very concept, and thereby through discreet earnestlessness claim it as their own? Only the Timelords will know for sure. In the meantime, enjoy this commercial for the upcoming Vidcast. Face Forward, Fellow Flatulorators!!
