Barack Obama, congressional Democrats and Progressive-Left operatives – with the help of the mainstream media – have done a great job of spinning culpability for the mortgage crisis onto the Bush Administration, congressional Republicans and, in particular, John McCain. This is a notable moment in the history of political spin because as the facts present, Democrats and Progressive-Leftists – not Republicans –are the ones directly responsible for the current financial crisis in which our country is embroiled. At the center of this culpability are Barack Obama and ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

The US Senate, where both Sen. John McCain and Sen. Obama work, is in session every month of the year except for August. Sen. John McCain has served as a member of the senate since 1993 and Sen. Barack Obama since 2005. Some people might find it relevant that during his entire senate career—which began Jan 6, 2005-- Obama has missed 24% of his votes. On the other hand, during his entire senate career --beginning Feb 4, l993-- McCain has missed 18% of his votes. For their performance, (as of 2006, unless he or she is a Senate Leader) our elected senators earn $165,200 per annum --a figure that Sen. Obama considers a middle class income, a salary that would warrant a tax cut if he is elected the next president of the United States.

Editor's Notes
The town hall format was supposed to be John McCain's most potent venue for connecting to the people. In city after city, the give and take between McCain and the citizens of this country has been positive and productive, both for the McCain campaign and the citizens. The October 7th presidential debate, moderated by Tom Brokaw (who did a good job) was preordained to minimize the effectiveness of the town hall format. There was no give-and-take with the questioners, there was no conversation with the American people. As Lynn Sweet from the Chicago Sun-Times put it, "It was a fake town hall meeting." Obama skated on this one...and now he gets to say he held his own against John McCain in a town hall debate. Sad.

Somali Pirates Release Iranian Bio-Chem Ship

Islamist pirates released an Iranian ship that had been hijacked off the Somali coast in August, state news agency IRNA reported on Friday. "The ship, MV Dianat, was released on Friday morning after seven weeks of...negotiations with Somali pirates," the state-owned Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines said in statement carried by the agency. "All 29 members of the crew are safe and sound and the ship is sailing towards international waters," it said. The report did not say whether ransom was paid...The MV Dianat's declared cargo consists of minerals and industrial products, however, Somali and regional officials are convinced that its destination was Eritrea and its intent was to deliver small arms and chemical weapons to Somalia's Islamist insurgents. Within days of the hijacking, pirates who had boarded the ship developed strange health complications including skin burns and loss of hair. Independent sources including verification through multiple media sources indicated that a number of pirates have also died. The MV Dianat's destination, at this time, is unknown.

The class of 2008 will not receive an education. Since the school year began in January, Zimbabwe's 4.5 million pupils have had a total of 23 days uninterrupted in the classroom, teaching unions say - a sorry state for a country that once had the highest standard of education in Africa. President Mugabe became an African hero of rare distinction when he carried out a big expansion of the education system in the early years of his rule. As with most of the country's infrastructure, that system is now in the process of total collapse. In the mid-1990s there was a national O-level pass rate of 72 percent. Last year it crashed to 11 per cent. Many schools recorded zero passes. To avoid the humiliation of total failure in 2008 the Government has cancelled the academic year. “It would be criminal if the Government allows examinations to go ahead,” Raymond Majongwe, the secretary-general of the Progressive Teachers' Union of Zimbabwe, said. In January teachers went on a prolonged strike over their salaries. In April, Mr Mugabe's Zanu party accused them of supporting the Movement for Democratic Change during the March elections and blamed them for the President's first-round defeat. Six teachers were murdered and thousands assaulted by Zanu militia in the violence that marred the second-round presidential election on June 27. Schools were looted and turned into torture centers. Teachers disappeared. Many are still unable to return for fear of being disciplined. Now the coup de grace to the education system is being delivered by hyperinflation. Teachers had their salaries doubled last week to the equivalent of $9.97 a month — barely enough for bus fares and bread for four days.

Obama & Ayers Pushed Radicalism on Schools

Despite having authored two autobiographies, Barack Obama has never written about his most important executive experience. From 1995 to 1999, he led an education foundation called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, and remained on the board until 2001. The group poured more than $100 million into the hands of community organizers and radical education activists. The CAC was the brainchild of Bill Ayers, a founder of the Weather Underground in the 1960s. Among other feats, Mr. Ayers and his cohorts bombed the Pentagon, and he has never expressed regret for his actions. Barack Obama's first run for the Illinois State Senate was launched at a 1995 gathering at Mr. Ayers's home.

1845 - The United States Naval Academy opens in Annapolis, Maryland, with 50 midshipmen students and seven professors.
