Art Radio WPS1 is the Internet radio station of P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center providing a 24-hour stream and on-demand archive of cultural programming. The station operates out of the historic Clocktower Building in lower Manhattan. Wed, 21 May 2008 06:14:00 +0200 The Idjut Boys (Dan Tyler and Conrad McDonnell, U-Star, Cottage, Tirk, London) take disco, dub, soul, funk, and jazz and fuse them into a heady cocktail of nightclub magic. Ever since the creation of their own label, U-Star Records, in 1994, they have performed remixes for the likes of Dimitri From Paris, (the late) Erot, and Muzique Tropique. Notable DJ appearances include guest appearances at, Body and Soul, PS1’s Warm Up, SOBs as opening DJ for Groove Collective, Francois K’s Deep Space NYC, as well as her own events “Hamsa” and “BuMako” which were both featured in Timeout magazine NY. On the production tip she has collaborated with Anthony Nicholson (Trackmode Records, Clairaudience) as the “Descendants”, Alison Crockett aka Diva Blue (Sylk 130, Naked Music, wah wah 45’s) as the Djima project released on Lifeline Records, and Hipbone records with Vicki Bell and Alexis P. It has been over six years since she began her DJ career playing all over the NYC area and overseas. A native New Yorker with Ecuadorian and Bolivian roots, Nicole enrolled in the Music Technology Program at NYU, where she studied sound engineering and electronic music. While studying sound production at NYU, Nicole began a radio show at WNYU called “The Move.” Within a couple of years of DJ-ing, Nicole was playing major NYC clubs and in Europe. During this time Nicole was working along side Jon Cutler at Distant Music were she was Label Manager for two years. With the experience she got from working at Distant, Nicole was inspired to start her own label where she could debut her music as a producer and song writer. That day finally arrived with her first release on Lovebreak called “Sunshine Song.” Nicole has a string of her own original releases coming out in 2007, so keep an eye out for this budding producer. attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 58 MB here Thu, 13 Sep 2007 21:45:00 +0200 From deep, soulful house to Afro-Brazilian and psychedelic grooves, this smooth set of underground sounds and classics from veteran dance DJ Kervyn Mark was recorded live on the terrace at PS1’s Warm Up on July 17, 2004. Brooklyn native Kervyn Mark has been spinning around NYC from the early days of hip-hop through the legendary Manhattan nightlife eras of the Paradise Garage, Danceteria and Suzanne Bartsch’s famed Club Savage, where Mark reigned as the first resident DJ. Since his early days as a club maverick, Mark has spun all over the world as well as in his hometown, with notable guest spots at Body & Soul, Dance Promise, and at Bang the Party. Mark serves on the board of directors for Melting Pot NYC, an artists’ collective whose main objective is to enlighten through music.

He converses on his journey and drive to produce his own unique sound on the ‘dub leaning end of the musical spectrum. His unique production style got him attention from Francois K and Francois’ Deep Space party devoted to all things in the ‘key of dub’, where he’s a regular guest dj, and where you’ll find his first two full length albums have been released. Their signature sound encompasses pumping grooves, uplifting lyrics and undeniable hooks. Born and raised in New York City and Detroit respectively, Landes and Wintersmith bring a tapestry of influences from their native cities.
