As RIM's shares tank with the rest of the stock market, Microsoft may be thinking it was a good thing it didn't get its hands on Yahoo! After all that means it still has plenty of cash on-hand if it wants to buy a company that's been rumored as a Microsoft target for some time: RIM.

Savvy Internet users know that downloading unsolicited computer programs is one of the most dangerous things you can do online.

But even some sophisticated surfers could get snookered by a sneaky new attack in which criminals create fake YouTube pages - dead-on replicas of the real site - to push their malicious software and make it look like it's safe stuff coming from a trusted source.

It was a home run, a grand slam, a dream come true or the biggest birthday present ever for the solar industry, depending on who you spoke with.

But these are not normal times and the reality of the global economy collided with what should have been a day in the sun for solar companies.

Dying beside the love of your life and passing into eternity together is the stuff of legends, but it's also a documented phenomenon among longtime couples.

Besides Copy-and-Paste, one of the biggest feature omissions on the iPhone is landscape mode for composing emails. It's a strange limitation, as other smartphones that support both portrait and landscape mode support it.

Earlier this month Steve Ballmer spoke about a cloud-based development environment, though he wouldn't go into detail, saving it for the Professional Developers Conference (PDC) at the end of this month. However, a look at the PDC sessions on Wednesday would have revealed a possible clue to the name of it: Windows Strata.

The blogosphere is ablaze with news leaks about the BlackBerry Storm, which goes on sale in November. But the stories, which are long on gigabytes, megapixels and other technobabble, give almost no idea of what this new phone is actually like to use. Most notably, they overlook a breakthrough design element that sets the Storm apart from every other iPhone wannabe: Its entire 3.2-in. touchscreen doubles as a big, clickable button.

One of the criticized "features" of the iPhone since Day One has been the lack of a user-swappable battery. For any heavy user, the fact that you can no longer rely on being able to carry a spare battery for a long day of use, but rather, a charger, has been a sore point.

What's at the core of this dispute (pun intended)? The logo of the Victoria School of Business and Technology (VSBT) is. It's (quite naturally) an Apple, and besides being an apple, doesn't resemble the logo of Apple, Inc. at all. Still, it's not the first time Apple has picked on a logo that doesn't really infringe on theirs: they threatened the Big Apple earlier this year over the logo for their GreenNYC campaign.

AMD has been talking about its "asset smart" plan for over a year now, and AMD finally revealed what it means on Tuesday. AMD is going to shed its chip-manufacturing operations, spinning off that part into a new company, called (at least for now) The Foundry Company.

As I wrote previously, the world's largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be out of action until spring because of a helium leak into the tunnel. While scientists are still not 100% sure what the problem was --- the tunnel still needs to be warmed from its normal supercool temperature so inspectors can analyze the section --- they have their suspicions.

A study conducted by Wakefield Research for the Wi-Fi Alliance (go figure) indicates that college students now feel that wi-fi is nearly indispensible for their coursework.

The most unbelievable finding of the survey was that nearly 1/2 of respondents said they would give up beer before giving up wi-fi. Oh, come on!

About two weeks ago, Apple announced a recall of all iPhone 3G adapters shipped in North America, along with those shipped to Japan and Latin America. Despite the fact that Apple said replacement iPhone 3G adapters wouldn't start shipping until Oct. 10th --- or be available in stores until then --- they have already started to arrive.

What's a governor? While, besides being someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger, a governor limits how fast you can drive by controlling the amount of fuel that reaches your engine. Ford will debut its MyKey system, which has this feature and more, on 2010 cars, starting with the Ford Focus. It will quickly become standard on many other Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models.

Sorry, Samuel L. Jackson. Snakes on a Plane, yes. Porn on a Plane, at least a Delta Airlines plane, no.

Delta plans to roll out in-flight wi-fi later this year, but there were questions about what will happen if people are surfing, ahem, inappropriate websites or streaming inappropriate media. Originally Delta said it was going to handle this on a case-by-case basis, but after receiving feedback from customers and flight attendants, the company has reversed course, and is currently working with wireless provider Aircell to come up with a filter to block the inappropriate content.

Whether or not Apple has already reached its target of 10 million iPhones sold by the end of 2008, it's already reached another pretty amazing stat, particularly for a higher priced phone: according to the NPD Group, the iPhone is now the second highest-selling mobile phone. Not smartphone, mobile phone. #1 was the Motorola Razr V3.

A joint project between the Apple Finance Board (AFB) and Investor Village's AAPL Sanity board has been tracking the IMEI numbers from as many iPhone 3Gs as possible, placing the results in a Google Docs spreadsheet, in an attempt to judge how many have been manufactured (note: not sold).
