University of the West of England Aerospace Manufacturing Research Centre Home Page, examples and explanations. High Speed Machining, Grinding, Superplastic forming. Fri, 10 Mar 2006 15:28:47 +0100 This centre has established itself as a leading research group of national significance. Since its inception in 1994, the Centre has been involved in a large number of substantive research projects. These vary from EPSRC funded projects to research funded directly by aerospace companies, many from the local region as well as from further afield including mainland Europe and the United States. The aim of the group is to provide a national centre of expertise for aerospace manufacturing research. The focus of the research is on providing pragmatic solutions that meet the needs of industry.

Fri, 10 Mar 2006 14:21:00 +0100 The RAMP project aims to investigate the further deployment of High Performance Machining (HPM) in the Aerospace industry, especially of new materials such as titanium, Waspalloy, and Jetheat. HPM technology is no longer novel but its utilisation within the aerospace industry is still limited, mainly for machining aluminium components.

INSPIRE South West aims to promote innovation in the region and is jointly funded by the South West RDA and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the European Union's 'Innovative Actions' programme.

Fri, 10 Mar 2006 15:28:47 +0100 UWE's MP521 simulator, a new product from the Merlin Flight Simulation Group, has a wide bodied capsule with a full width instrument panel and real-time visuals. The flight software is very sophisticated, and provides a full six-degree of freedom model. The capsule is mounted on a six axis hydraulic motion system, which provides a realistic flight feel for the aircraft designs being simulated. Model data is directly entered by the students, and does not require specific computer programming. The simulator provides a valuable link between theory and practice for students of Mechanics of Flight and Aerodynamics.

The facility is used to teach engineering design and analysis for students of mechanical, manufacturing, and electronic engineering and as a facility for project work.

The project is concerned with the development of an innovative urine drainage system, which is designed to treat patients who have dysfunctional bladder problems.

The project is concerned with the development of an innovative urine drainage system which is designed to treat patients who have dysfunctional bladder problems. A key part of the system is a long-term indwelling device which is required to provide permanent access to the bladder for auxiliary devices of the system as well as providing continuous bladder drainage.
