One of the biggest names in cycling — Floyd Landis — stayed at the Stonewall Jackson Inn! The embattled 2006 Tour de France champion, whose victory is still being examined after he tested positive in two samples for heightened testosterone levels during the tour, raced in the Shenandoah Mountain 100 on a Sunday. “He’s a mountain biker, was a mountain biker before he started road racing,” Chris Scott , the event’s promoter, said. “I invited him to come and he took us up on it.” Landis is not participating in races sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale, the international organization that governs cycling. He is still awaiting the verdict of an arbitration hearing held in May that will determine whether he keeps his title and if he has to serve a suspension. He has not raced in a UCI event since the 2006 Tour. The Shenandoah Mountain 100 will be Landis’ fifth non-sanctioned race this summer. He also participated in four mountain bike races in Colorado, including the Leadville Trail 100 and the Tevas Games.”

HARRISONBURG — Former Gov. Mark Warner and his friends love challenges. They whizzed through the city’s downtown and James Madison University on Friday morning as part of their three-day, approximately 150-mile bike ride through the Shenandoah Valley. The region has a national reputation for cycling, Warner said of the choice for the trip. The riders chose the Valley because of the region’s scenic vistas and rolling hills, the former governor said. The riders covered 65 miles around Bridgewater on Thursday. Warner said he was not used to such a long distance. Warner did well, though, according to Wayne Engel, co-owner of the Stonewall Jackson Inn. "When they came," Engel said, "Warner was leading the pack."

That's right, we have added our famous "Night's Delight" luxury linens to our Gift Center. So many of you have asked to buy a set or two, we negotiated a deeply discounted affordable price & permission to sell these only to you, our guest family. These linens cannot be bought in any store, or online, as they are made from the finest Egyptian and Turkish cotton threads, crafted in India and are exclusively imported and marketed only to selected Luxury Hospitality Resort properties by our wholesale supplier. Being wrinkle-free, we never iron them!! We just launder and fold them, when they are put on the bed, any wrinkles disappear as if by magic! These are the only high count cotton linens with that superb quality. Other high count sheets we have tried must be ironed as they wrinkle so badly with laundering. As well, these sheets are spot-soil resistant and launder and wear like iron!! They make great wedding, birthday and anniversary gifts; a gift that "keeps on giving"! If you use them in your own guest bedroom, you can be sure your guests will have an unforgettable luxurious "Night's Delight", just as you did here at the Stonewall Jackson Inn. They will "oooh and awww" about their Night's Delight as they sip their coffee and enjoy your breakfast table. No one can forget the warm sensuous feeling of slipping into bed between these silky sheets, and waking to their warm softness. I know you remember this as an important part of your "Night's Delight ~ Breakfast to Remember"....The Stonewall Jackson Experience. Now the best part! We can sell them at low bargain prices. Full double sets are $107; Queen sets are $115; King sets $126! Sorry, they do not make luxury sheets in twin size. While you might be able to buy 600 count sheets for this price, they will not have the wrinkle free quality. They come in the following colors: White, Ivory, Light Sage, Light Blue, and Linen. Wayne and Roger Engel, a father-son team and owners of the Stonewall Jackson Inn and Bed and Breakfast in Harrisonburg, call a stay at their inn, "A night’s delight and a breakfast to remember." They’ve even printed it on the B&B’s main sign out front.

A dollar a day and room and board. That was Wayne Engel’s compensation for his first job, as a farmhand in rural Ohio. "I was 12 years old, and we worked sunup until sundown," Engel said. "I worked all summer for several summers." Engel, 73, now is owner and host, with his son Wayne, of the Stonewall Jackson Inn Bed & Breakfast in Harrisonburg. Engel made hay, milked cows, and fed hogs, chickens, sheep and cattle on the 200-acre farm. He called it a wonderful time. "It was several miles from our family farm," Engel said. "I had a horse and would ride home on Sundays to go to church and visit my family." Engel was in 4-H at the time and had beef and poultry projects. The work was a learning experience in agriculture and other areas, he said. "The farmer was a bright man, well-read," Engel said. "We talked a lot about economics, religion, politics and anything. He was a good mentor."
This is Stonewall Jackson Inn's newest way to keep in contact with you, our past and future guests.
Our plan is to update our Message board often with special discounts and current events!
