Ensure the security of data with a StorDigital SafeTower

SafeTower duplicators offer removable harddrives for total data security

New from StorDigital the SafeTower security enabled DVD CD duplicator offers users the confidence to data security in duplication operation.

Data security is a top priority for most companies. Thanks to StorDigital Systems it is now possible to perform completely secure DVD, CD and Blu-Ray duplication operations with a SafeTower duplicator. By combining enhanced duplication control software with the latest technology StorDigital SafeTower can offer both password word protection and fully removable harddrives; ensuring that data used in the duplication data remains totally secure.

StorDigital Systems have added a new secure data CD and DVD copy tower to their range of premium tower CD and DVD duplicator systems. The best-selling range of duplicators, featuring configurations of between 1 and 21 DVD or CD recorders offer users a fast and easy-to-use solution for the production of larger volumes of discs. The new secure data features are available as part of a new package called the ‘StorDigital SafeTower’.

The ‘SafeTower’ features allow users to have more control over the security of their data and the production of their discs. One of the security enhancements is the provision of a removable hard drive, ideal for government bodies and businesses where data protection is necessary. The swap-able hard drive can be removed from the duplicator and locked away securely. Further protection is added to the unit by way of a password entry system that will prevent unauthorised access to the duplicator and its functions. Other revised features include an on-board disc counter to count how many jobs the unit has done and how many discs are copied in a particular job and hard drive partition naming (allowing users easier access to the discs they have stored on the duplicator hard drive).

‘We work hard to continually improve the quality and service offered by our products. The StorDigital SafeTower is a response to a changing market that recognises the need for tighter control over the access to data. The SafeTower duplicator will make a real difference to customers who need to feel confident that the are doing everything possible to ensure the security of their data,’ said Nic Ranshaw, Managing Director.

'StorDigital tower duplicators offer exceptional value and are ideal for customers at all levels. Our client base includes police forces who might use the devices for circulating evidence, schools who might use the duplicators within media departments alongside professional audio and video production houses. We expect the SafeTower to be a priority purchase for any organisation that handles sensitive information.’ Ranshaw said.

The CD-writer.com StorDigital LightScribe Duplicator exhibition last week proved to be a real success. Whilst turn out from visitors during the day was lower than expected, it did provide a great opportunity to meet some of our distant colleagues for a good chat about the industry and future opportunities.

The press event in the evening offered lots of opportunities for networking and the StorDigital LightScribe duplicators certainly pulled a lot of interest.

The event also marked the launch of the new Verbatim Dual Layer LightScribe DVD product. Offering 9GB of recording capacity on one LightScribe printable recordable DVD. Find out more about our StorDigtial LightScribe Print Tower Duplicators, and start benefiting from a cheap and easy way to copy and print your discs.

Burn It, Flip It, Print It with a StorDigital PrintTower

StorDigital’s LightScribe duplicators offer easy disc burning & labelling

New from StorDigital the PrintTower LightScribe duplicator offers silkscreen-quality disc printing direct from a DVD & CD duplication tower.

Burning and printing large volumes of discs has never been easier, thanks to a new range of DVD and CD duplication towers from StorDigital. The new standalone StorDigital PrintTower LightScribe duplicators are available in configuration from 1 to 15 targets and allow users to burn and label their discs in a traditional-style standalone tower copier. This is the perfect solution for any company or individual who wants to make the best impression with their disc.

StorDigital PrintTower duplicators feature patented HP LightScribe disc labeling technology. By utilising a special disc, LightScribe duplicator operators are able to burn their discs, then flip them and then burn a label or image on to the top of the disc. By offering duplicators featuring this enhanced functionality StorDigital Systems are revolutionising the traditional in-house production process.

Nic Ranshaw (MD of CD-writer.com and CEO of StorDigital Systems) had this to say: "The introduction of our PrintTower LightScribe duplicators really does represent a turning point in the way people approach disc publishing. Traditionally if a tower duplicator customer wished to produce a disc that is both copied and labeled they would have to purchase a separate printer. We have transformed the process, making production simpler and reducing expenditure.“

He added, "We don’t consider that the LightScribe based system is perfect for everybody. It won’t replace our automated inkjet printers, but having a tower duplicator that can also label your discs is a strong selling point, especially considering the low cost of the media".

StorDigital PrintTower duplicators featuring HP LightScribe technology are available to buy now from CD-writer.com Ltd and StorDigital Systems on 0208 293 0777. Call now to register for your reseller account and start selling the UKs favourite range of CD, DVD and Blu-Ray Duplicators.

Secure Digital Media Copier
Ladera Ranch, CA — August 14, 2008 – Nexcopy Inc., a leading manufacturer in USB Duplicator equipment, announced the release of it’s SD200PC, a 20 target SD duplicator system to aid users in bulk data loading to Secure Digital media formats.

The SD200PC is designed for quick and easy data loading to Secure Digital media such as SD cards, miniSD cards and microSD cards. The SD Duplicator is a 20 target system with powerful copy and duplication functions. Users may copy files from a source location on a PC or use the low-level binary copy function to copy a full image from a Secure Digital media source.

“Secure Digital media formats are the leading flash memory type for deployment of field applications to hand-held devices, mobile phones, GPS units and telecommunication devices,” says Greg Morris, President of Nexcopy. “Developing an SD duplicator with powerful copy utilities along with ease-of-use was a request our sales channel had been asking for months. They asked and we delivered.”

The SD200PC is well suited for data loading to flash memory for Palm devices and SmartPhones as the system will also function as a miniSD duplicator through the use of media adapters. The SD duplicator is equally suited for data loading to Blackberry devices, GPS units and mobile phones as the SD200PC will also function as a microSD duplicator through the use of microSD media adapters.

Morris continues, “We paid specific attention to the low-level binary copy function to insure the SD duplicator will duplicate Linux distribution packages for embedded applications and software deployment via Secure Digital media. The unit is a PC based system, and it was important we had some level of support for Linux users. The bit-for-bit copy function provides that support.”

Polaroid PoGo is a brand new printer for mobile phones and digital cameras. It intends to be very portable, as it doesn't need any PC connections. Its mini-size enables you to bring it anywhere and print photos instantly, so that you can share them with friends, family, co-workers...
It also claims to be easy to use, just as the Polaroid cameras were.
Let's find out!

Content

We received the Polaroid PoGo in its retail package with 2 additional packs of ZINK™ Photo Paper (10 sheets each):

At first sight, the content of the box seems quite complete:
• 1 printer Polaroid PoGo;
• 1 pack (10 sheets) of Polaroid ZINK™ Photo Paper;
• 1 rechargeable battery;
• 1 Type C power plug;
• 1 Type G power plug;
• 1 AC Adapter.

All you could need is here. Here's a global view of the content, and of the printer itself:

The traditional warranty card is also included, as well as addresses for worldwide support contacts and a User's manual. This manual is very simplified, and perhaps a little bit disturbing if you like being instructed with words. It's divided into 4 panels: charge the battery, load photo paper, print from a mobile phone via Bluetooth and print from a camera via USB.
Everything is explained with images and some precision would have been welcomed, e.g. to turn on or off the printer you need to press the power button for at least 2 seconds.
Concerning Bluetooth, on some mobile phones there is a menu "Print via... / Bluetooth" but even if the PoGo printer is recognised, this is not the right way to print and it doesn't work. You have to choose "Send by... / Bluetooth" instead. The needed code to create a link between the printer and the mobile phone is the only thing written in numbers on the User's manual.
However, after having taken a look at the Polaroid PoGo website, we found a page with printing explanations for every compatible mobile phones:
http://www.polaroid.com/pogo/comptool/index.html

Design

The design of the Polaroid PoGo is very simple: a rectangular shape with rounded corners and edges. Only 2 buttons (one to turn on the printer, and one to open it in order to load photo paper), 2 plugs for USB and power connector, 2 LEDs and one paper output:

Thanks to its minimal size, it's not really heavy, and you can hold it in your hand or even place it in your pocket, and bring it everywhere. Here's a preview of the size compared with a BIC médium pen and a 20 pence coin:

Obviously with such an ultraportable size, your photos will just be the size of a credit card, but nevermind, this is quite enough to share it with your friends, family...!!
Here's a comparison with an Oyster card:

The Polaroid PoGo tends to be a portable device, and as you can see, it successfully does it.

Features

First, the Polaroid PoGo is a zero ink printer (hence ZINK™). This means you don't have to buy or replace ink cartridges. It uses thermal technology: as soon as your photo is printed, it is dry and waterproof.

Then, you have two ways to print your photos:
• via Bluetooth: nowadays, most of the mobile phones have the Bluetooth connection. Once activated, you just have to send the picture via Bluetooth to the Polaroid printer. When the transfer is completed, the PoGo starts printing your photo.
• via USB: you must have a digital camera equipped with PictBridge. Then you just have to select the Print menu on your device, and choose the PictBridge option.

What you get after a 60 second print is a 2" x 3" borderless, fade-resistant, long-lasting, smudge-proof, water-resistant, tear-proof photo.

Finally, you can bring it with you everywhere you go, thanks to its rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

Performance

We tested the Polaroid PoGo printer with 2 Bluetooth equipped mobile phones (Samsung SGH-U900, Sony Ericsson K800i) and a PictBridge equipped digital camera (Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P93).
We didn't face any problems, and everything happened as expected. We sent the pictures via Bluetooth or PictBridge and the printer worked perfectly.

Here are 3 samples of printed photos, and with the original picture when available:

The quality of the pictures is pretty good with a nice printing of details. The colors are sometimes not accurate, but anyway it offers a beautiful rendering. By the way, the quality is not the main argument of this printer, which is its portability.
Concerning how long it takes to print a picture, it really makes it in 1 minute, we tried it. It took about 20 seconds to transfer the 5Mpixels photo from the camera to the printer via PictBridge, and the printing lasted 59.95 seconds!

Here is the Polaroid PoGo in action:

Conclusion

The Polaroid PoGo printer is definitely a must-have not only for Polaroid camera fans, but also for every person who wants to share its photos in a different way. The quality isn't worth a 10Mpixels photo displayed on a plasma screen, but it's fine enough to have a nice souvenir and to share it with fellows.
Nowadays, everybody has a mobile phone in its pocket. The size of this printer enables you to have it in your other pocket, thereby getting a complete modern Polaroid camera in your hands.
Once you own this printer, the only charge you'll have is the ZINK™ paper thanks to a thermal technology which uses zero ink. This special photo paper is sold by pack of 10 sheets, is water-resistant, and comes with a sticky side, so that you can place your printed photos everywhere you want!

LightScibe duplicator

StorDigital have launched a range of LightScribe duplicators available via CD-writer.com and partners. Theses amazing new standalone tower copiers use HP LightScribe technology allowing them to copy data and print images to the disc surface.

It sounds amazing and in truth it is. Lightscribe has been around for a while and is increasingly popular in domestic DVD and CD burners. The burner in your PC may already support LightScibe disc labelling. Now this feature is available to tower duplicator operators, meaning they can burn their discs, flip their discs, then print their discs. It really is that easy.

A typical LightScribe disc label will look like this:

LightScribe Disc

Recently the price of LightScribe Media has really started to fall meaning the LightScribe disc labelling can seriosly compete with traditional monochrome disc printing methods. Remember LightScribe doesnt use ink, so you just pay the cost of the disc. Customers should be aware though that LightScribe does not print in colour. Its perfect for text labelling since it has a cool ammend feature, meaning you can pre label your discs before a live event, then using ammend you can add details specifi to your customers, date or location. Cool!!

So simply put, if you need a tower duplicator, and you think you could benefit from labelling the discs (forget paper labels) Consider a LightScribe Duplicator from StorDigital.

Normal operation of a publisher like the Primera Bravo Pro will allow you to run a number of consecutive jobs. Simply set the jobs up and send to the queue.

Discribe can queue an unlimited number of jobs. (MAC)

PrimoDVD can queue up to 32 jobs. (PC)

Consider the Bravo Pro Publisher which is a solid unique disc publisher.

Typically 19ml of ink for a Primera disc publisher costs £25 pounds. With 19ml of ink you can expect to print 400 discs with 20% mixed ink coverage, 130 prints with 70% mixed ink coverage, or 40 prints full surface of a single colour. So the cost per disc print is dependent on your artwork, ie how much of the disc is covered in ink, what mix of colours you have. To an extent you can reduce ink usage via printer config, reducing saturation and in some cases using different disc may reduce the absorbtion. Our advise is to work within the boundaries of the medium, and ensure your customers have an understanding of what is achievable. In addition to this typically a CD might cost 12p and a DVD 14p. From a commercial point of view using simpler and less ink intensive designs will speed production, reduce unit costs, and increase the durability of the disc. Everybody wins. Primera Bravo Ink

As part of our Summer 2008 promotion we have restructured some of our duplicator and printer solutions. The CD-writer.com disc factory offers amazing value for money providing rapid return on a minimum investment, via a high speed and scalable solution that can produce 1000's of discs per day. Singulus reveals uptake of replication hardware is ahead of ‘last-gen’ disc format

Optical disc hardware specialist Singulus has received orders for 21 Blu-Ray dual-layer duplication machines in the first quarter of this year – a faster adoption than of the format’s predeccesor DVD 11 years ago.

"This means that the orders for Blu-ray in the first year of the dual layer technology already by far exceeded the volume at the start of the DVD 11 years ago with 17 machines," said chief financial officer Stefan Baustert.

Nexcopy Flash Drive Duplicator

The USB duplicator industry seems to have taken off somewhat in the last 3 month. After 2 years of seeming relatively benign we have recently seen a flurry of new products. We've been selling the USB and SD card copiers from StorDigital for some 2 years, but notable new devices come from Nexcopy with the NexCopy Flash Drive Duplicator and Microboards USB Copiers.

But just where is the USB duplication market heading? Since my days as Head of Internet for Ministry of Sounds we have been trying to predict the potential for the USB key in music and data distribution. The problem for those familiar with the duplication market producing DVD an CD, is that the USB key is costs more per unit, is perceived as having a higher value and is re-usable. It therefore does not fit the model for high volume duplication and distribution for titles that usually ship on discs.

So what role will the USB key have in distribution and how can duplication service providers build it into their revenue models?

Certainly there is the potential to provide specialist duplication service and supply hardware within vertical markets. At CD-writer.com we have supplied USB duplication solutions for the Ministry of Defence, who use SD cards to update their fleet of military vehicles. Clearly this is a small and very specialised market. But comparable opportunties can be found in a range of markets and industries.

Additionally there will be opportunities for corporate gifts and promotional products.

Whilst we do not see a boom for USB card duplication there is clearly a growing need from some quarters.
