Those of you, who are into video optical illusions, will immediately try getting their hands on iHologram app for your iPhone. Unfortunately, after the video (posted below) made a big stir all over the web, it's author David O'Reilly admitted it was actually fake. In reality it should work like this: the iHologram application for the iphone/ipod touch, gives the illusion of a 3D hologram jumping off the screen, reacting to the movement of the built-in gyroscope iphone is equipped with. Attached you can see a video of it in use, featuring the cat from David's award-winning but unfinished cartoon. David admitted that the application wasn't for real, making a public statement: "The iHologram was an illustration of an idea I had which I believe could work with the technology (combining anamorphosis and motion sensing) iPhone is equipped with. Unfortunately I’m just an ideas person, and I can show how things should look, but I’m no hardcore programmer." So what do you think? Could it be done?

Regarding our previous post, and my suggestion regarding Google web gadgets, I haven't had much response. Wouldn't you like me to mention your site in my upcoming articles? Can the gadget even be found through Blogger's gadget tab? I'm eager to find out!

This is illusion pretty cool in my opinion. Artist Dick Termes painted a sphere with a unique "six-point" perspective technique that results with a pretty neat optical illusion. Attached below, you may find the video clip. As you watch it, try to imagine that the front half of the sphere is transparent, and instead, that the mural is painted on the inside of the sphere. Once you do that, the spin will seem to reverse direction and you’ll find yourself inside of the painting. Reflecting Back is a 17" diameter sphere that was painted in 1989. As Deadwood is very close to where Termes lives much of this painting was done on the spot in the Adams House. This house is now owned by the city of Deadwood South Dakota. This is a wonderful spherical painting to show the six point perspective which Termes is known for.

As a bonus, there is a ghost image of Mr. Adams. You can see him shown looking in the window and Mary Adams is standing in the dining room. Termes' image shows in the two mirrors. It is as though you are standing in the living room and turning in a circle seeing everything around you as well as above and below you. You can find more similar videos and Termespheres on Dick Termes website.

Concerning the Mighty Illusions - I just came home from my summer vacation. This will result in more regular updates, new improvements and more illusion-related stuff for you! Keep visiting the site for big news soon! Also, those of you running Blogger blogs, you can now add Optical Illusion of The Day Google gadget to your blog. Blogger announced that you can now add gadgets automatically via Layouts - Gadgets tab. Please comment if you found our illusion gadget. Post the link inside the comments, and those of you who implemented it successfully, email me so I can mention your blogs in my new posts! This will bring nice amount of visitors your way!

Our little community wouldn't be what it is, if we weren't aware of outside (non-illusionary) world. As you know, here and there we make reference to current events that take place, but aren't tightly connected with optical illusions. As billions of you probably know, World Olympics in Beijing have more than just started. Typing this, I'm almost certain 100% of you using internet (to visit this website) are aware of that fact. Well, Sandy Shorts sent me the first photo she (or he?) found on Yahoo. It's a volleyball player from Australia wearing volley ball instead of her head. The next photo is the one I had on my pc for a while, but only now found suitable to publish it. Those of you who visit this site for some time, will almost immediately remember Sleepy Hollow illusion or maybe even those Funny Wrestlers. I would like to remind our new visitors while they're here, to download "Optical Illusion of The Day" application, to see newest illusions from this site on their PC, MAC, Facebook or iGoogle. How many of you like it, but weren't aware it even exists before you read this previous line? Admit it!

So, finally I have collected enough new Moon optical illusions to justify posting them as a collection. Individually posting each one, wouldn't make sense any more. Agree? Even though the idea isn't something we haven't already seen before (through relative sizes category), still each photo uses the Moon as an illusion in a slightly different manner. If my memory serves me correctly, the first illusion of this kind that made me "wooow" was The Man holding a Sun. Afterwards, they just kept coming. While I was writing this article, I came to a conclusion how I subconsciously choose the illusions I post. If my method interests you, just keep reading - First and most important ingredient is the illusion itself. If the optical illusion isn't obvious enough, no matter how cool the photo is, I won't publish it. After all, this website is entirely dedicated to illusions. Now if the illusion itself is good enough, I look at the picture (or photo) as a whole. It has to be visually keen, or plainly - look nice. In the end, I try to choose among illusions that are original enough, but weren't already posted in every corner of the internet. Sometimes the illusion itself is so awesome or new that it (rightfully) overrides my other criteria, and sometimes just the artistic touch or the coolness of the photo override the first (illusion) criteria. Here, now you have it... Please share your thoughts. Advices are always welcome.

Someone sent me this photo recently, but I can't seem to find this persons email any more. So no reference to the author this time, sorry. If you can recall original Cat Illusion, you will immediately understand how today's trick works. The Sausage cat doesn't have to be so long at all! As easy it is to understand the illusion, the photo was funny enough to be shared. Do you agree with me?

Another, more important reason for writing this post, was to ask you a little favor. I was messing around with the site, and lowered the amount of ads it serves, so they should all be placed in single rotation with max 4 ad spots. I would appreciate if my visitors (you!) could upload screen shots of moillusions.com and post the links through comments, so I can see how my website looks in different countries. You can upload to imageshack.us and just paste the link in comment section.

Why fight? Wouldn't it be easier if people helped each other? Think for a minute how much easier would it be to this fellow to score a point. In the end he would be earning his bread without so much hassle. Well life is different - even if you are NBA star you'll have to sweat for your bread. Photo below shows an illusion of brothers in arms. I would like to thank Thanos Makris for sending me this shot with his explanation included: "Dear Vurdlak, I was checking some photos from the 4th game of the 2008 NBA finals and I found this one which to my eyes looks rather hilarious. It seems as if the Laker player (Pau Gasol) is lifting the Celtic player(wearing green, Posey) in the air like fathers do with their sons to get closer to the basket. Though its just Posey taking a rebound. I haven't touched the picture, and don't know how to do it either. You can find it on nba.com. Maybe it's not the best illusion but its up-to-date and funny I think. Keep up the great work with your site. I think it's one of the most enjoyable sites I visit."

Axel Peemoeller is a designer who created these fabulous 3D drawings in Melbourne. His creations were developed as a way-finding-system for the Eureka Tower Carpark. The distorted letters on the wall can be read perfectly when standing at the right position. This project won several international design awards. In one of my previous posts I found visitor's comment requesting more 3d chalk drawings. I hope this one is serves you right! Axel's work is much similar to Felice Varini's in my view. Do you see resemblance as well? And another thing - we had minor coding error, which prevented IE users from seeing the site correctly for the last few days. Some visitors even reported they couldn't open the website in IE7 at all! Everything should be ok now, but please reply if you had the same experience, and if the site works correctly now.

Remember Shahar Peleg, a multi-disciplined designer who runs Peleg Design that produced our recent Mirror Tic Tac Toe Illusion? Well, this time he produced some optical illusion bottle holders that look amazingly unreal. If you remember, few years ago (or maybe months), we already posted similar (if not the same) photo which resulted a pretty nice debate. Well, this article is a must have. Shame it isn't available where I live. At least it would give me a nice conversation topic when my friends visit. When you jump inside the article, you can see another photo, and high-res close up of this illusionary object. Did you understand how it works? Answer is more than simple!

Here is a hot optical illusion I just found in my mailbox. What do you think? Is this too impolite for this type of website? I find it SFW but, would like to hear your comments. In the picture below, you can see some unknown female superhero (or villain maybe?) that is almost naked and in the background there are rotating snakes, illusion originally invented by Akyoshi Kitaoka. I think I have this illusion on one of my computers in high-res set as desktop wallpaper. Really looks cool as a Windows background. Do you use optical illusions as your wallpapers sometimes? Which one? Just to inform you, I have few hundred submissions in my mailbox, and those that pass my rigorous quality check will all be published on this site. If you wish, you can suggest which type you like the most, and when I read your comments I'll orientate myself in that particular direction.

Emma-Jane Cammack, a freelance body painter whose photos we published week ago, created another gallery dedicated only to optical illusions. She creates all sort of bodypaint, but my favorite ones are those involving camouflage and illusions. You can see some of the examples below. All 3 of these were already featured in one way or another, without the body paint touch. Which one is your favorite? Can you tell, apart from the camouflage part, what is the illusion in them? If you're asking yourselves how come I haven't posted so often lately, it's partly because of a slow connection I have here. Those of you who haven't heard, I'm on vacation (Korcula again in Adriatic see). Another reason could be because I'm diving a lot, swimming and going out - so little time is left for me to update the website. But have no fear... I'll find extra hour or two daily to do some work on Moillusions - best optical illusion website on the net! Enjoy!

As the vault doors swings open, loads of cash fall out and money notes flutter through the air. Millions of pounds spilling out of a vault at London's Waterloo Station stopped many commuters in their tracks. But (as you might have guessed) all was not quite as it seemed. Jay Kleinrichert pointed me to this new "Sidewalk Drawing" created by renowned American artist Kurt Wenner. We have already featured Kurt in one of or previous posts, and one of his murals is still used as thumbnail representing our illusion application for Facebook. Wenner is former illustrator for the U.S. space agency NASA, who began street painting in Rome in 1982 and translated anamorphism - the technique used by artists to create the illusion of height - into a new way of painting to give depth. The art form became known as anamorphic, illusionistic or simply 3D art, and has gained huge popularity around the world. The drawing Kurt created was commissioned by company called "Compare The Market" to represent the £16 million their customers have saved this year so far. The vault took Wenner four days to create. This picture has to be viewed in 3D to get the full effect...

Probably triggered by recent articles: spinning girl and spinning man, one of our visitors named Daniel, submitted this photo and named it The Water Man. I believe Daniel also saw one of our previous billboard illusions titled "The Water Full of life", and wanted to provide similar, masculine version. Previous (feminine) illusion was very similar in it's nature, and pictured a water shape of a woman with her arms spread wide in the air. I don't think I need to point where the illusion hides, but would like to let Daniel describe how his photo was born: "Hi, now that the Olympics are very close, you might consider this picture for your blog. I took it few days ago on a Golf Club near Karlsruhe in Germany. First time when I saw it it, it looked like there was a man bowling! Regards, Daniel". Can you see the same thing? Remember, this is a photo of a water tap, not frozen ice like I first presumed.

Once again Mighty Optical Illusions website proudly brings new optical illusion that hopefully will become as famous as the Spinning Girl did in the past. Remember when we first posted Spinning Girl illusion, it was later reposted on all the famous websites across the internet. The artwork was created by Peter 'Def' Oksbjerre, and the flash work was enhanced by Miguel Ortiz, and later by Anthony J. Foreman. The author's website can be found at defcon2.dk I thank all three of you guys for your time. Now the illusion works like this: watch the spinning man, and you'll see him spin in one direction, but as soon as he rotates for 180 degrees, you'll see the switch in the direction of his movement, and he will spin differently. Let's see how long does it take for big websites to find this illusion and write about it. Remember, to see the freshest optical illusion on your PC desktop, Mac dashboard, iGoogle or Facebook profile, add the appropriate application. You can find them all at the top of the sidebar.

Let's give the author (Peter) opportunity to explain it himself: "Hi, Love your site. I was playing around with some particle-systems and depth-maps in AfterEffects and suddenly this guy showed up. I like how his legs get totally twisted in the middle of the spin. It works with the same principles as the Einstein and Chaplin-masks where you see the inside but it looks like the outside."

A Dodecahedron is a 12 faced polyhedron with 20 verticals and thirty edges. It's a 3D geometric object. You can see the example in the first image below. The optical illusion behind this installment is obvious only when you see the second photo. Dodecahedron Optical Illusion is composed of a bunch of random floating chunks of wood. As they appear to be randomly spread around the area, when viewed from the correct angle they form a perfect Dodecahedron. More precisely, this installment is created from dozens of seemingly random positioned parts that obtain cohesive structure only when viewed from certain angle. Bunch of similar examples can be found on this site. Starting from Felice Varini's circles, all the way to Bicycle Installment and that strange installment from Hungary. I'm not quite sure who is the artist behind this amazing illusion, but if you find some info, be sure to share through comments.

Frank Berardi, who also wears title J SGT MIL USA USACE (still not sure what each part means, but I always considered him some sort of high ranked USA military general or something) has sent us another awesome optical illusion. Those of you who like to research, browse the website by search term "Berardi" and you'll find his previous interesting submissions. Today's one is very similar to "Illusion of Two Horses and One Head", but this time the story is opposite. We have one cow body and two cow heads. Frank asked where does one cow begin, and the other end? Here is his email: "I found this in the opening sequence of the show "Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares" and I just couldn't help but think to send it along. Where does one cow begin, and the other end? I know this is pretty easy when you look at it for more than a second but I think it gives a good double take."

John Colorado sent me this photo he took recently. It took me few seconds before I spot the optical illusion in it, but then was really amazed by the result. Let's give John opportunity to explain himself: "Hi, here's my picture, taken in the New Jersey. My name is John Anderson Colorado and I live in Paris, two years ago I was in the New Jersey and took a photo, the shadow of a tree which makes a face on the roof of a rabbit house. It's a 100% real picture! I think it will be a nice present for your page. Hope you'll answer to me. ps: if you speak French or Spanish it could be easier for me ;)"

Now this one is eye-candy! One of the first games I ever learned to play as a child was Tic Tac Toe. We call this game differently here in Croatia, but if you translated the meaning literally, it would be "Crosses and Circles". Mirror Tic Tac Toe by Peleg Design is a rad little optical illusion board game with half O's and X's that only are complete when put in play. I'm not exactly sure weather you see the O's and X's correctly if you look at the board under different, more extreme angle, but Sahar Peleg surely created very interesting and innovative approach to this game.

Shahar Peleg is a multi-disciplined designer, who designs, develops and produces commercial products in small quantities. Shahar designs every-day objects with additional values which give them a fresh character. His experimentation with optical illusions and “magic” result in smart and surprising products that challenge the spectator to take a closer, more detailed look. His products are characterized by minimalist form and with the use of ordinary materials, usually produced in “low tech” production processes and at times even handmade.

Che Guevara, El Che, or simply Che, was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, politician, guerrilla leader and whole bunch of other stuff hard to pronounce. After his death, his stylized image became an ubiquitous counter-cultural symbol worldwide, which you probably saw on some "rebellious" teenager's T-shirt. There is a big chance you even have some sort of outwear with this symbol. I never had time to study Che Guevara's background, but you may do so by visiting his biography on wikipedia. My opinion was that this young lad become famous mostly because of his looks and the famous stylized portrait. There is a chance if he hadn't been executed as a young person, he would be nothing more than Fidel Castro's partner in politics. Don't take me for granted, it's just my uneducated view. I'm really interested to hear your standings. Still, I have to admit that Alberto Korda's photograph of him entitled "Guerrillero Heroico" (shown as inverted negative on the left), which was also declared "the most famous photograph in the world" is really awesome. I just don't understand why many young people, punkers, rebels without the cause, emo's etc. wear Che-badges. Isn't this too stereotype? Oh, almost forgot: to see the illusion, stare at the center of the image for a minute or so, and then look away at the white surface. You should see the negative almost immediately. If you blink repeatedly, the effect should be even better. More afterimages can be found here. HASTA LA VICTORIA SIEMPRE!

P.S. If someone here is professional in Adobe Flash, and knows how to embed link inside a flash file (swf or flv), please email me, I have a small task for you. All help is highly appreciated! I have an interesting flash optical illusion, but need help implementing clickable moillusions.com link inside the animation.

...a Hidden Horses Illusion! Bet you didn't saw this one coming. Today I bring you all new optical illusion, the type you have never seen before! Your assignment is to spot as many hidden horses in this fabulous image below. How many did you find? How long did it take? Yes, for those of you who are still not sure, there was an irony in my voice. I'm a little fed up with all these hidden horses by now. The authors should already run of them, if someone asks me. Still, it's a regular optical illusion, nice looking as well, and it would be a shame not to post it. I just hope this is the last one! If you have a spare time, you can help me gather all the horse illusions from this website, and point to them inside your comments. This way we'll see how many there were exactly, and we'll have them all in one place. My bet is a roundish number, something like 20 or so.

Just stumbled upon this in my mailbox! Emma-Jane is a freelance body painter and artist based in the UK. Her body art has been seen around the world in adverts, billboards, tv, magazines, calendars, on packaging and in all kinds of other media. Emma has worked on projects with Sting, Elton John, Claudia Black, and many celebrities and sports stars. She works hard to find new avenues for body art to help it become a recognized and accepted art form. She is also on the board of directors of the World Face and Body Art Alliance, also is working with other British body painters to form the British body painting association. This is the statement that can be found on her website: "As a bodypainter I am interested in celebrating the body and exploring how creative I can be using this exciting alternative canvas. I don't think bodypainting needs to be about sex, for me a body is simply another canvas but one which can move and has its own attitude." Now, if all these photos weren't enough for you, I recommend visiting the appropriate category, and checking all the links I have created in this text - you will see many examples of the divine body paint techniques!

What you can see in this post is an innovative guerrilla marketing campaign, done by the advertising company called Saatchi & Saachti. As you probably know, few weeks ago I've posted some naughty billboards done by the same company. The response was huge! This time I bring you Saatchi & Saachti's campaign for Folgers, that has turned some New York City manholes into STEAMING CUPS OF COFFEE! Another innovative example for coffee advertising can be seen on these cups. And another pothole advertising can be seen from these stickers. Choose what you like, but you'll have to love this idea. Just for info, this was done some months ago, but I have learned of it only now, so am posting it with a little delay. Hope you forgive me! Would be nice if they included some sort of coffee aroma, so that the sewer air that is coming from underneath don't make the contra-effect. This would not only be good for their advertising, but would but would in fact cause anti propaganda! What do you think? In the meantime, I'm gonna' fetch myself a cup of coffee!

Some time ago, there was a Photoshop contest held by worth1000, where each contestant had to recreate one of the classic old-school optical illusions of his choice. Recreations results had to show great photoshop skills, as well as realistic looks. In my opinion, they were mostly created to look life-lie (real life illusions). Few months ago, I have even dedicated a post to some old-school illusions revisited in this contest. Some of the results are truly amazing. Well, I have forgotten to include this interesting flick below. The image isn't that extraordinary, but the reference to original Baby in Picture optical illusion, triggered me to post this one as well. If you got to know me, you should have realized by now there aren't many illusions on this website that I didn't understand, or have misinterpret, since all of them have to pass my quality check and review. Well, the original Baby illusion was one of the few I didn't understand, and had trouble finding the hidden baby. It was not hard, I simply missed to see it until few of you pointed it out to me. Well now our new visitors have chance to play with this new version, that is very similar to the original. Enjoy!

Frank, Jessica, Dan and few more of our loyal visitors pointed me to this interesting article about 3D Optical Illusions being used as a part of Philadelphia's effort to slow down drivers speeding through local streets. I just read this article on CNN, and the basic idea is that rather than building real speed bumps on roads, optical illusion speed bumps are being tested that are intended to trick drivers into slowing down, only later to find that there was no bump after all. I'm all for great new ideas like this one, specially when they have something to do with illusions, but this one seems very flawed. Maybe an optical illusion bump would trick me once, but wouldn't I learn pretty quickly where these fake bumps are located? Another problem would occur if I was driving a bike, and lost my control over it. I can also see people in the near future beginning to ignore real speed bumps thinking they are illusions, only to hit the bumps at 35 mph and getting a little unintended air. What do you think? In short: markings are designed to look like a 3-D pyramid from afar, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is testing the "bumps", they cost a fraction of real speed bumps and require little maintenance, in one location drivers slowed down, but the effect wore off after a few months.

Irene Román found this illusion, while looking for some in Google. She asked us if these two concentric circles below look irregular? "They obviously are", some of you may say. I did as well! Well, since this is optical illusions website - they’re not! This type of visual phenomena is well known to me. I have shared over a dozen of similar variations in the past, haven't I? But this one probably shares the strongest effect! When I look at it up close, I understand that they are regular, but still have trouble seeing them regular as a whole. Nifty, ayeh? I have linked some words in this text to help you compare this illusion with some very similar from the past.

Few days ago I've been invited by Google to test their new Ad Serving technology, which resulted from their recent Doubleclick takeover. For those of you who don't know, Google bought Doubleclick for 3 billion dollars last year. If you are asking yourselves why is this so important for little'o me, it's because license for Doubleclick's ad serving solution costs $20,000 yearly, and Google is now offering the same product for free. The end result for Mighty Optical Illusions, is that now we are able to serve advertising campaigns from our buyers more efficiently with targeting capability. For example, if you are visiting this website from UK, you should be able to see Zippo or Sega funny flick video at the bottom of our sidebar, but if you are coming from a country different than UK, you should only see regular Valueclick 300x250 banner. Can anyone from UK confirm this? Are there web proxies that let you choose country from which you want to appear visiting certain site? This helps me in my long-term plan to reduce the number of ads on this website, simply by making them targeted and shared through same ad-spot instead of two. Final step would be to remove all the ads of the site, and placing one golden spot for our sponsor in a way of custom theme, background ad or similar. Still it's very difficult to find such golden soul. If you are interested in targeted advertising per country, drop me an email!

Let's jump to optical illusions now. I have found another one in the series "Hidden [insert animal] for The Millionth Time". Don't laugh, I really mean this. This time in my belief there are few hidden wolves inside this image below. Not sure if I'm seeing wolves or tigers. You can help. Also, am not exactly sure, but I think the author is the same person who painted our previous "millionth" edition. The style is to similar to be only coincidence. Please pardon for posting this in such a hurry, but I'm in the middle of my exams, and have to learn 24h/7. The good part, is that I already passed and concluded 3 university courses in last 2 weeks. I have also started refurbishing spot the object section - you can check the current progress if you wish. Some minor design changes have also been made to this site. Can you spot them?
