ANNOUNCEMENT!!

Finally decided on our bottling of the year! It was whittled down from either Ardmore OB or An Cnoc 16 to Ledaig CC 1990.

All three are worthy of the accolade but the Ledaig wins on unusualness of taste and the unexpected suggestion.

The better sell of the three, our customers are very happy with it.

THE RIGHT WHISKY FOR YOU

As of now Loch Fyne Whiskies is to employ the Malt Whisky Flavour Map that has been developed by Dave Broom and the experts at Diageo.

Within our Browse & Buy section grid references are starting to appear against bottlings which, when checked against the Flavour Map, quickly demonstrates how Light or Rich and how Smoky or Delicate a whisky is compared to ones you already know, so now you can explore LFW.co.uk (and the LFW Stock List) with more confidence. Whiskies that appear towards the outer edges of the Flavour Map will tend to have more single-minded character. The more a whisky moves towards the middle of the Flavour Map, the more it tends to have a combined balance of flavour characteristics.

Over the next few months we will be adding more references to make this a truly comprehensive resource.

Oh! And see you at the Loch Fyne Whisky Bar at RockNess this weekend! And BBC Good Food next week, busy or what?

The new Jura 18yo and Dalmore King Alexander III
Whyte & Mackay have evidently got a new agency responsible for their on pack copywriting, either that or the chap who restrains Richard Paterson's verbiage has topped himself.

A very well balanced dram on nose and taste with the An Cnoc style and power of a Big Hairy Highlander.

Round and mellow on the nose with citrus fruits and vanilla (Yankee oak) and liquorice (allsorts).

The mouth experience is sensational, immediately spreading to all parts in excellent balance, a significant pause then a huge warmth with a typical An Cnoc ginger swallow reminiscent of the fabled 21yo.

A very long hot spicy finish.

Ace whisky suited for a Clynelish fan or similar.

According to Cezanne - who still does the calligraphy in Campbeltown - this is 5.5 years in a refill bourdon and 1.5 in a fresh Gaja Barolo barrel a mere 12,120 bottles so [ahem], don't delay.
Straight from the bottle it's pretty grim, let it breath for 10 minutes sudoko or something.Once settled this is definitely one for the 'silly' peaty fans, a big powerful aroma of peat and used sump oil (from a grocery van).
To taste the wine hits first then the balance spreads over the tongue revealing malt and peat, a quiet swallow and long peppery finish.
