If you can help with any of these things we’d be very grateful – as always the success of this event depends on your support! We hope to see as many of you as possible on the day. If you have any donations or can volunteer to help on the day please see Lisa (01926 475812) for the Fun Run or Rachel, Julie or Sue. Bag 2 School Collection – Thursday 15th May
You should have received plastic bags for the next Bag 2 School collection – please use this for any unwanted clothes, soft furnishings, linens, soft toys, etc that you have available. Please keep your full bags until Thursday 15th and then bring them to the corner of Breach Lane and Langley Road between 8.30 and 9am.
Next PTA Meeting – Monday 12th May 2008, 8pm at Julie’s Spring Fair and Fun Run – Saturday 17th May 2008Don’t forget to return your form for this year’s Family Fun Run – we’ve had a good response so far and numbers are limited. The form is available from the School Office, or else you can download it from the web site. We’ll be running the Rainbow Stall again at this year’s Spring Fair. For those of you new to this, the stall sells kid's toys and other items (new or nearly new) which children contribute according to the following colour scheme:
Boxes will be available in each classroom later next week – please can children bring in anything suitable of the appropriate colour for their year group before Friday 16th May. Anyone else able to help either with the Fun Run or with stalls at the Spring Fair, please contact Lisa on 01926 475812, Rachel, Julie or Sue. We’ve had a good response so far for raffle prizes, but can still accommodate a few more if anyone else can help. Bag 2 School Collection – Thursday 15th MayBags will be distributed next week from School to ‘eldest and only’ children, for the Bag 2 School collection on Thursday 15th May. Please use this for any unwanted clothes, soft furnishings, linens, soft toys, etc that you have available. Please keep your full bags until Thursday 15th and then bring them to the corner of Breach Lane and Langley Road between 8.30 and 9am. Next PTA Meeting – Monday 12th May 2008The next PTA meeting will be at Julie’s house on Monday 12th at 8pm. Please let Julie know if you can attend and she will provide directions. Parents set an example and get your (sports) kit on for the Great Claverdon Fun Run on SAT 17th May. The run will also signal the start of the Spring Fair with plenty of activities for the whole family. So pull together a team of family and friends or even work colleges to run (or walk) 2, 4 or 6KM around the village. The event will begin @ 1.00pm with registration and an Aerobic warm up in the playground. The race will start @ 1.30pm This year is an Olympic year so we are looking for lots of different sports kits (so long as you can run in them and they are not dangerous!) How do you enter?Complete the Entry form and return with money or cheque, in an envelope to the Fun Run box in the school office by 14th May. There is a limit on numbers so get your form in QUICK. This year we will not be registering new entrants on the day!! We will register you for the event and return full instructions for the day with your receipt and race number. Want to take part but do not want to run?We need Volunteers to marshal the route during the fun run. Please call Victoria Benjamin (07765 515651) or Lisa Bunting (01926 475812) if you would like to get involved. We need at least 6 Marshals to hold the race!!
Invitation Voucher BooksUnfortunately 12 families still have not either returned the Invitation Voucher book or given us a cheque for £19.99, made out to Claverdon School PTA. This means we’ll have to take about £240 out of the funds being raised for School, with no benefit for School. If you haven’t yet returned the book or a cheque, please, please do so urgently. 100 Club Draw for March and April
Congratulations to all! Please see Sian Edginton if you want to join the 100 club. Spring Fair and Fun Run – Saturday 17th May 2008Thanks to those who have already offered to help with this year’s Spring Fair and Family Fun Run, to be held on Saturday 17th May. However, we would still like more helpers for both, so if you can be involved please contact: - Lisa on 01926 475812 or Victoria on 07765 515651 if you can be a marshal for the Fun Run – this will only take about an hour on the Saturday - Rachel, Julie or Sue if you can help with running stalls or activities during the fair even for 30 minutes or so, to give others a break Summer Party – Friday 11th July 2008Tickets will be on sale soon for this year’s summer party. We’ve decided to hold a themed party – James Bond - at the DM Hall in Claverdon. Ticket prices will include a meal, and there will be a bar, disco and raffle. So please put the date in your diary, and plan your attire! Further details to follow soon. Spring Fair and Fun Run – Saturday 17th May 2008Arrangements are now underway for this year’s Spring Fair and Family Fun Run, to be held on Saturday 17th May. The Fun Run will start at 1.30pm, with the Spring Fair opening at 2pm. We are particularly looking for helpers to:
It has been suggested that we run a nearly new school uniform stall at the Fair, which we will do if there is sufficient interest. Please can you let us have any donations of unwanted school uniform which is in reasonable condition. We would also appreciate any more donations of prizes for the raffle, so if you can help with this please let us know as soon as possible. Bag 2 School Collection – Thursday 15th May 2008Arrangements for the next Bag 2 School collection will be the same as previously. Please bring any unwanted items such as clothes, soft furnishings, soft toys in the bag provided to the corner of Breach Lane and Langley Road, between 8.30 and 9am on Thursday 15th May. Please do not take items into School, as there are no facilities to store them. Bags will be distributed from School in early May. Invitation Voucher BooksA final reminder please to return urgently any unwanted Invitation Voucher Books, or a cheque for £19.99, made out to Claverdon School PTA. Next PTA meeting – Monday 12th May 2008The next PTA meeting will be held at Julie’s house on Monday 12th May, at 8pm. If you are able to join us, please let Julie know. Easter Bun FridaysWell done to everyone last term - Years 4, 5 and 6 raised £64.90 in their Easter bun sale and in total we managed to raise a worthwhile £223.74 from all three sales. There have been some suggestions that, because the spring term can be shorter than the others, it might be better to stop the Easter Bun Fridays and either have something similar at the end of the summer term, or simply have only the Chocolate Christmas Fridays. Please let us know what you think – either come to the PTA meeting next Monday, or let Julie, Rachel or Sue know at School. Invitation Voucher BooksPlease to return a cheque for £19.99, made out to Claverdon School PTA, for the Invitation Voucher Books distributed at the end of last term, or return the book itself, unused. We do need to return any unwanted books and we are required to pay for all books not returned, so if you haven’t yet done so, please make your decision and let us have the money or the book (in the envelope provided) by Friday 11th April at the latest. If you haven’t received a book, please see Julie. Bag 2 School Collection – Thursday 15th May 2008A reminder that the next Bag 2 School collection will be on 15th May, at 9am, at School. Please come and join us, and let us have your views on fund-raising events and how best to spend the money parents and families are contributing to the School. Easter Bun FridaysWell done to Years 1 and 3, and everyone who bought from last Friday’s Easter bun sale for raising £77.21. We’ll let you know how much Years 4, 5 and 6 raised today, and the total raised from all sales next term. We are arranging for a further collection in May, to follow the next Nearly New sale. The collection will be on 15 May, at 9am, at School. Further details will follow nearer the time, but please keep any unwanted items in the meantime for the collection. Invitation Voucher BooksThe Invitation Voucher Books are being distributed from School this week, to the eldest and only children. This is an excellent opportunity to raise money for School and save money yourselves on a variety of days out, restaurants, and retail outlets. The books include vouchers giving you savings on entrance tickets for venues such as – Drayton Manor, Cadbury World, Hatton Country World, IMAX cinema and Think Tank in Birmingham, Twycross Zoo, National Trust properties, museums, cinemas, bowling alleys and other leisure attractions, all in the West Midlands/ Warwickshire area. Parents who used the books last year found them very worthwhile – it was very easy to recoup the cost of the book of £19.99. We need to return any books not paid for (we are required to pay for any missing books), so we ask that you make a decision as soon as possible about whether you want the books, and if not please return them to School. If you do decide to buy the book, please send a cheque for £19.99, made payable to Claverdon School PTA, in the envelope provided. If you haven’t received a book, please see Julie. HAVE A GOOD EASTER HOLIDAY !Easter Bun FridaysThanks to all who helped with Reception and Year 2’s Easter bun sale last Friday – we raised an excellent £81.63. When you read this, Years 1 and 3 will have completed their sale and we look forward to the final sale from Years 4, 5 and 6 on Friday 14th March. Book Fair 10th – 13th MarchThanks to all who have offered to help with the book fair so far. We still need volunteers for the following sessions – please let Julie, Rachel or Sue know if you can help: Monday and Wednesday – from 3.15 to 4.15pm Monday evening - from 5 to 6.15pm Wednesday evening - from 5 to 7.30pm (or part of this) Quiz Night and 100 Club DrawThe Quiz night was very successful again – those who attended had a great time trying (and often failing!) to answer Phil Upton’s questions correctly. Many thanks to Phil, his helpers (Katherine, Julie and Lois) and all of you who came – we raised a very worthwhile £360 as well as having a fun evening. During the evening we drew the 100 Club balls – this month’s lucky winners are Donna MacDonald (1st prize) and Sarah Bromwich (2nd prize). Next PTA meeting – Monday 7th April 2008Date for your diaries - the next PTA meeting will be held at School, at 7.30pm, on Monday 7th April, at the start of the summer term. Easter Bun FridaysA reminder of the remaining Easter Bun Fridays – the dates are: Years 1 and 3: Friday 7th March Years 4, 5 and 6: Friday 14th March Please see your year reps about arrangements for each sale. Many thanks for your contributions of things to eat and for continuing to support the sales by buying the goodies! Yellow Moon CataloguesYou should have received the latest edition of the Yellow Moon catalogue today from School. A contribution is made to School funds for any purchase from the catalogue – and there is a good range of stationery, gifts etc. Please make the most of this opportunity and remember to quote the School reference number when you place your order. Book Fair 10th – 13th MarchMrs Gover has asked whether any parents are able to help with the book fair which will be held in School in the w/c 10th March. We are looking for volunteers for any of the following sessions – please let Julie, Rachel or Sue know if you can help: Monday, Tuesday or Thursday 3.15 to 4.15pm Monday or Wednesday evening during parents evening Invitation Voucher BooksThis year's Invitation Voucher books will be issued to the eldest and only children on the last day of term – Wednesday 19th March. Many of us found the vouchers very valuable last year and easily recouped the cost of the books. Please look out for the books as you may wish to use some of the vouchers over the Easter holiday. Next PTA meeting – Monday 7th April 2008Date for your diaries - the next PTA meeting will be held at School, at 7.30pm, on Monday 7th April, at the start of the summer term. Please put the date in your dairies, and we look forward to seeing you then. Quiz Night – Friday 29th February 2008A final reminder that tickets are still available for the Quiz Night next week, on Friday 29th February, 7.30pm at School. We need to order the food on Wednesday, so that is the last day for ticket sales. Tickets cost £7.50 per head, which includes a fish n’ chip supper (or vegetarian alternative). Phil Upton will be our Quiz Master, aiming to better last year’s devious and dastardly questions, and a bar will be available. Next PTA meeting – Monday 25th February 2008The next PTA meeting will be held at School, at 7.30pm, next week on Monday 25th February. If you haven’t yet joined the 100 Club and would like to do so, or find out more information please talk to Sian Edginton. Quiz Night – Friday 29th February 2008A reminder that Quiz Night tickets at £7.50 per head are now available for sale, from any of the PTA Committee. The ticket price includes the fish n’ chip supper. Last year’s Quiz Night was very successful so do come along this time and see if your team can emerge champions! Yellow Moon CataloguesDon’t forget your Yellow Moon catalogues – the School receives a donation for any order placed. Sponsoring Fund-raising EventsAre any parents able to offer or organise sponsorship from their employers for any of our fund-raising events? We already have some parents who have been able to arrange match-funding from their employers for some of our fund-raising activities, which is an excellent way of boosting funding for School. If any parent would like to talk about sponsoring a fund-raising event for School, we’d be delighted to hear from you. This could be for any of the events we already run or for something new. Please contact Julie or any of the Committee if you can help.
Quiz Night – Friday 29th February 2008Tickets are now on sale for the Quiz Night on 29th February. This will be held at School, and will involve teams of 4 competing to answer Quiz Master Phil Upton’s questions on a variety of themes, with a fish n’ chip supper and bar. Tickets cost £7.50 per head, including supper or £30 for a team of 4. Put your own team together or else we will arrange teams for you. Please complete the form below and return to Julie or one of the PTA Committee. We will be holding a raffle during the evening, and we’d be grateful for any raffle prize donations - if you can help please let one of the Committee know. Autumn Term Fund-raising TotalsWe succeeded in raising £1934.23 funds for the School in the Autumn term! This will fund items such as the £300 contribution to Science week, and a further £300 for Science equipment for School, and will also go towards the whiteboard for Reception class and the recently leased colour photocopier. Invitation BooksFollowing last year’s interest we have registered again to receive Invitation voucher books which will arrive in March. In the meantime, don’t forget to make use of this year's vouchers, especially during half-term – they are valid until the end of February. |

Last week we raised £74.75 for Children in Need through Year 4’s sell-out stall - many thanks to everyone who contributed, bought and donated. By the time you read this, Year 3 will have held their sale and we look forward to Year 2’s efforts next Friday, 30th November.
As in previous years, we intend to support the School Christmas performances by raffling a hamper of goodies at each performance, and by providing refreshments. Class reps will be in touch with parents about helping with the refreshments (tea/coffee and mince pies, with mulled wine as well for the evening performances). We’d also be grateful for any donations of food or drink suitable to go in the hampers (nothing perishable or with a short shelf-life please) by 30th November. There will be a box in each classroom where donations can be placed, though if you are donating anything alcoholic please will you deliver this to the School office.
The AGM was held last Monday, and the PTA officers for the forthcoming year were confirmed as:
| Chair : Julie Fenwick | Secretary : Sue Herbert |
| Vice-chair : Rachel Ollerenshaw | Treasurer : Jenny Phillips |
Many thanks to Phil Upton and Nic Gotrel, who are standing down as Vice-chair and joint secretary respectively, for their hard work on behalf of the PTA and School. Both have confirmed they will continue to help out with events, so we will still have the benefit of their support.
Mrs Gover thanked the PTA and all parents for their fund-raising efforts which are much appreciated. Particular mention was made of the match funding secured by Jim Ward of £250 – which is excellent. If anyone else works for an organisation that might be willing to provide match funding, we’d be keen to talk to you, as this is a very effective way of increasing the funds we can raise. Notes of the AGM are available on the School website.
Congratulations to Clare Pettizer who won first prize in the November 100 club draw of £51.75, and to Sarah Matthews who won the second prize of £17.25.
A number of future events were agreed at the AGM – please make a note of these in your diaries. Further information will be provided in due course.
A reminder that the next Bag2School collection will be on Wednesday 21st November. Please bring your bags (you can use black sacks such as bin liners if you don’t have enough of the blue bags already distributed) to the collection point on the corner of Breach Lane between 8.30 and 9am on Wednesday. School can not accept bags being left in advance or after this time, so please help by sticking to these arrangements. As a reminder, the goods that can be accepted are clothing, linens, curtains, bags, shoes, soft toys etc. These are distributed to Eastern European countries.
Our AGM will be held on Monday evening at School, starting at 7.30pm. Please come and join us to find out what we do, share your ideas on fund-raising and how to spend what we raise, and enjoy a glass of wine. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
Year 3 will be selling their Christmas chocolate goodies on 23rd November – please come and support them. Last week Year 5 successfully raised £59 so well done to them. This week’s sale, by Year 4, will be in aid of Children in Need.
The Ladies Night last week was very successful again, with many of us doing some shopping, experiencing various treatments and enjoying the wine. Final figures are still being collected but we think we’ve raised over £400, so many thanks to all who helped and contributed. You can still order wine (good value, good quality and 10% contribution to School) – see Julie or better still come to the AGM on Monday when details will be available.
You can join the PTA 100 Club by downloading the form on the website at http://www.claverdon.warwickshire.sch.uk/.
See the leaflet which has been sent home for full details – we hope to see you there!
The “Top Class” cash scheme is underway - tokens are printed daily in the Coventry Telegraph. There is a box in School for the tokens. The scheme ends on 10th November, so please carry on collecting as many as possible.
When you read this, Year 6 will have started the ‘Christmas Chocolate Fridays’ events and will have set the target for the other classes to beat – we’ll let you know next week what this is! Next week, 9th November, is the turn of Year 5, followed by Year 4 on 16th November. Remember, donations of any form of chocolate cakes or sweets, preferably with a Christmas theme, are requested, to be sold immediately after School on Friday afternoon. Year reps will be making the arrangements for the sale by each class.
A reminder that the next Bag2School collection will be on Wednesday 21st November. Bags will be distributed from School shortly, so please continue collecting any unwanted clothes, linens and soft toys, to be distributed to Eastern Europe.
Monday 19th November 2007 at 7.30pm at School.
Don’t forget to order your Christmas presents/stocking fillers from the Yellow Moon catalogue – you can do this from the website at http://www.claverdon.warwickshire.sch.uk/.
A reminder that tickets are available from PTA committee members, at a cost of £5 each for this event, for which you’ll get a glass of wine and nibbles, and entry to the prize draw, as well as the chance to browse the stalls, do some Christmas shopping and enjoy some treatments.
As last year, we hope to raise funds through the “Top Class” cash scheme that starts again Monday 15th October - this involves collecting tokens printed daily in the Coventry Telegraph. Please collect as many as you can and recruit grandparents, friends etc to help as well. More information will be available in next week’s letter on where to take the tokens. The new Claverdon community shop sells the Coventry Telegraph, so you can support both School and the shop!
One of the PTA activities is the 100 Club which, for a small charge, entitles members to enter a monthly draw. Susan Head has been running the Club for us but is now standing down, and we’re looking for someone to take over this role – it takes only a couple of hours a month, so if you can help please let Julie or any of the PTA committee know. Many thanks to Susan for enabling the Club to run so smoothly this past year.
We’re still looking for volunteers to help on the book stall on 15th, 17th and 18th of October, from 3.15 to 4.15pm – if you can help, please contact Julie.
By popular demand (at least from the children!), Christmas Chocolate Fridays will start up after half-term. For those of you new to School, each class brings edible ‘goodies’, preferably chocolate and with a Christmas theme, for sale after School on Friday afternoon. The dates are:
| Year 6 | 2nd November | Year 2 | 30th November |
| Year 5 | 9th November | Year 1 | 7th December |
| Year 4 | 16th November | Reception | 14th December |
| Year 3 | 23rd November |
SCHOOL WEBSITE: TIP OF THE WEEK : Don’t forget to order your goods from the Yellow Moon catalogue – you can do this from the website at http://www.claverdon.warwickshire.sch.uk/

We’ve already confirmed stands for manicure, pedicure, facials, reflexology treatment, Indian head massage, wine tasting, Blink photography, Pinky Blue (jewellery and giftware for big and little girls). £5.00 will buy you a ticket, to include a glass of wine and nibbles and entry into a prize draw, as well as the opportunity to enjoy the treatments and do some shopping! We’re also still interested to know if any parents already have contact with Phoenix Cards – again please contact Julie if you do.
NEXT PTA MEETING - Monday 15th October 2007 at 7.30pm at School
PTA AGM – Monday 19th November 2007 at 7.30pm at School
A warm welcome to the new parents who attended the PTA meeting on Monday when we began to organise the calendar of events for this year and discussed what we would be raising the funds for. Thanks to Kate Gover for her suggestions.
Following our discussions and based on the money already in the bank we agreed to fund the following:
Ideas suggested for this year included:
For more details see the minutes of the meeting on the school website.
Class reps are needed for these two years. The duties are not too onerous – mainly whipping up support for events such as chocolate Fridays – and attendance at meetings is not compulsory. Please contact Julie Fenwick if you are able to help.
Our thanks go to Jacqui Hill and Heidi Ambrose-Brown who have acted as reps for the last few years.
Companies such as National Grid will donate the equivalent of funds raised by their employees. Please let us know if this applies to you and you would be happy for the money to go to the PTA.
We are considering selling these products through the PTA but if anyone is already involved with this company and would like to link into school please contact Julie.
Remember to save your old mobile phones (and anyone else’s you can get your hands on!) More details about this scheme will follow in a later letter.
Collect your unwanted clothes, bedding, curtains, soft toys, shoes and belts etc. The money we get from this scheme is based on the weight of the goods we collect. These are then sold on to countries such as Russia and Lithuania. Bags will be issued soon with more details of what can go in them but any plastic bags can be used.
Following the success of the first event last year we are organising another:
Ladies Evening – Thursday November 8th
Put the date in your diary now!
More details to follow shortly
One of the children’s favourites! Goodies on a theme of chocolate or Christmas (or anything else really) are sold on a Friday after school, with each class taking it in turn to run the stall.
First up in November will be Y6. Specific dates for all classes in next weeks' letter.
PTA AGM – MONDAY NOVEMBER 19th
7.30pm AT SCHOOL
NEXT MEETING – Monday October 15th 7.30pm at school
It seems hard to believe that the holidays are over already and we are into a new school year! As usual, the PTA is looking forward to another a successful year of fund raising and having fun in the process.
A particularly warm welcome to all the parents of children new to the school. If you are interested in helping out with the PTA’s activities, joining the committee, or just finding out more about what we do then please come along to the first meeting of the year on Monday September 17th at 7.30pm in the school hall.
More details will follow in next week's letter of activities already planned for the coming term. As usual we would love to hear about any fundraising ideas you may have. Contact the committee members listed below with those ideas or better still come and share them with us at the meeting.
| Chairman: | Julie Fenwick | 01926 840287 |
| Secretaries: | Sue Herbert | 01926 484667 |
| Nic Gotrel | 01926 843934 |
We look forward to seeing you at the first meeting.
Final reminder about the end of year summer disco for the children, which takes place on Tuesday 17th July at School, with Phil Upton as DJ. The Infant disco will take place at 6.15 to 7.15pm for Years R, 1 and 2, and the Junior disco will be from 7.30 to 8.30pm for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Entrance is £2.50 per child, and refreshments will be available for parents who wish to stay. Please use the form sent out or download it from the web site.
There has been some confusion about the prizes received as part of this campaign, so the following will hopefully clarify the position. If your child collected 1 or 2 phones then they will have received a physical prize. If they collected 3 or more, they will receive an Argos card which they can spend on anything they wish - the value of the card can be checked by phoning the number on the back of it or by swiping it in any Argos store.
Many bags did not contain a form at all – All these bags were pooled together and we received an Argos card to spend on play equipment for School – this way School didn’t lose out. If you believe that your child should have received a prize but didn’t, please check that the form was filled out properly and was enclosed in your bag in the first place. If you still have any queries, please contact Fones 4 School direct on 01625 665784 – you will need the School postcode to hand.
Finally, as this will be the last PTA letter for this school year, the Committee would like to thank you all for your fantastic support during the year in raising significant sums of money to support School. We hope you’ve enjoyed the various events, but are keen to have new ideas for different activities. Let us know what you’d like the PTA to be doing next year.
Have a great summer and let’s hope the sun shines!
