Today starting at 5pm on Sirius Channel 146, Mark Thompson, the regular host of "Make it Plain" on Sirius Left, will air Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech from August 16, 1967 titled "Where Do We Go From Here?" This famous speech is one of his last and has been considered to be one of his most radical.

On Sirius Channel 51, Heart & Soul, excerpts from King's historic speeches will be aired throughout the day. And finally, on Sirius Channel 53, Soul Town, they will air music that was inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement.

Kudos to Sirius Satellite Radio for recognizing this very important holiday!

What are you doing today to celebrate? Post a comment to let us know!

Sirius Hits 1, channel 1 on Sirius Satellite Radio, will be airing Miley Cyrus, a.k.a. Hannah Montana - daughter of famous country singer Billy Ray Cyrus - every day until January 1st at 12pm. The young Disney Channel star will take time out of her tour to share stories, play her favorite songs, and she will do a countdown of 2007's top 45 songs.

In addition, she will also host a handful of special editions of "Hit-Bound", the Sirius Hits 1 show which features artists and songs trying to make it in the music industry, as well as "Best of Live Earth Countdown".

Check out the video for one of Miley's latest songs. It's no wonder she sold out her 54 city tour in record time!

Sirius has posted a list of the "Top 10 Music Events of 2007" for us to remember. They aren't in any particular order - but here is a recap directly from Sirius:

* SIRIUS launched the Grateful Dead Channel, a 24-hour commercial free channel dedicated to the music and legacy of the Grateful Dead. The channel features exclusive, rare performances and original shows hosted by Grateful Dead members and special archival interviews with the late Jerry Garcia.

* Siriusly Sinatra, produced by SIRIUS and the Sinatra family, launched as a one-of-a-kind channel with music spanning the entire spectrum of Frank Sinatra’s career. The channel also features exclusive rare archival interviews, performances and the music of other artists from the big band, swing and traditional pop genres.

* SIRIUS’ popular E Street Radio channel re-launched this year in support of Magic, Bruce Springsteen’s first album recorded with the E Street Band since 2002. Listeners of E Street Radio can hear rare recordings of performances, exclusive interviews, celebrity guest DJs and the music of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

* SIRIUS announced in 2007 that it had re-signed legendary radio personality Bruce Morrow, known to his legion of fans as ‘Cousin Brucie,’ to an exclusive multi-year deal. The deal demonstrated SIRIUS’ ongoing commitment to playing Oldies music from the 50s and 60s. SIRIUS remains the only radio outlet on which listeners can hear ‘Cousin Brucie.’

* In 2007, Little Steven Van Zandt, founder and architect of the Underground Garage SIRIUS channel 25, launched The Little Steven Sessions. The show airs three times daily and features Little Steven discussing the music, history, philosophy, and life style that is the Underground Garage.

* SIRIUS turned one of its channels over to country music star Garth Brooks for two weeks in celebration of the release of his 3-disc greatest hits CD set. Garth Brooks Radio featured music selected and presented by Garth Brooks.

* JAY-Z Nation launched in November to coincide with the release of JAY-Z’s album, American Gangster. The channel dedicated to, and produced by JAY-Z, featured exclusive interviews, special programming and live concert playback from JAY-Z’s five city tour.

* SIRIUS, the exclusive home of Jimmy Buffett’s Radio Margaritaville channel, broadcast every live performance from Jimmy Buffett’s 2007 “Bama Breeze” tour.

* Multi-platinum artist 50 Cent performed live in front of SIRIUS subscribers at the company’s studios in New York’s Rockefeller Center. The show aired live on G-Unit Radio, a weekly all-day broadcast produced by 50 Cent on SIRIUS’ Shade 45 channel.

* SIRIUS broadcast an exclusive in-depth interview with one of rocks living legends, Keith Richards. The rare interview was conducted by Steve Jordon, Keith’s friend and bandmate from X-pensive Winos.

So, not even a week has passed since XM started podcasting, and one of its shows, Opie and Anthony, is already #1 in podcasts this week from Apple iTunes. Also at # 7 in the top ten is XM Weekly Music - so it's great to see XM podcasts taking off so quickly!
XM Satellite Radio is so cool! This past week on The Boneyard, they had the cast of Aqua Teen Hunger Force from Adult Swim take over the station as DJ's. Master Shake, Carl, and Meatwad hosted and other characters such as Ozzy, Scorpions, Ratt, Kiss, Judas Priest and several others all showed up for the fun.

Keep checking on the XM website for updates on fun stuff they are doing!
It seems that XM Satellite Radio is competing with Sirius when it comes to cool commercials! There's a new XM commercial out called the "XM-erator" - and it's pretty cute. I found it on YouTube, so I'm posting it here to see what everyone thinks.

This commercial is linked to an online advertising campaign and it's got great music. All of XM's commercials seem to have music that is very catchy and it just works! Everytime this one comes on, my kids just bounce around the living room to the beat!

What do you think about this one?
This weekend while browsing through Sirius.com, I came across a very cool Sirius commercial. I found it on YouTube so that I could post it here!

I love the domino effect - it always amazes me how much work is put into these types of things - and then it's all just to knock it down!!

In a slew of recent partnerships, XM Satellite Radio has now teamed up with ABC to present a regular music segment on air that showcases XM's "Artist Confidential" series. It will be shown on the weekend edition of ABC's "Good Morning America". The segment will feature video highlights from the XM original “Artist Confidential" show. The Good Morning America Weekend shows will be the first time fans will be able to see and hear to their favorite artists from the popular XM series.

This past Sunday, November 18th, was the beginning of this being slated as a regular part of the show. Mandy Moore was the first artist featured, with announcements of new artists coming soon. ABC says video from XM's original series will also be available to watch on ABC's website.

Have any of you heard this series while listening to XM? If so, post a comment to let us know if you think it will be worth watching on ABC!
So there are rumors going around about iTunes radio, which clearly does not exist yet. However, on AT&T's new website where they added a new international data plan for the iPhone, they use iTunes Radio as an example of how the plan is used. Strange, isn't it?

This is the quote from AT&T's website: "While using data on iPhone is free within the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, International data roaming can get expensive quickly. Consider that just 20 minutes of iTunes radio takes 20MB of data. That's why AT&T has created two iPhone International packages with more reasonable rates in 29 countries."

In the next upgrade to iTunes, which would be iTunes 7.5, I wonder if the iPhone or the iPod will double as satellite radio players. And I do know that there is a radio option in the desktop iTunes, but it's not called iTunes Radio - so I don't think that is what AT&T is talking about. I find this very interesting.

Has anyone else heard anything about this from Apple? If so, feel free to post a comment to let us know! Anything new in the satellite radio community to keep us on our toes - let's talk about it!
I read an article this evening that seemed to indicate that the much anticipated satellite radio merger between Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI) and XM Satellite Radio (XMSR) is about to be approved by Thomas Barnett, Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Justice Antitrust Division.

This is pretty exciting if the merger results in more channels or stations for subscribers! It would also be a great deal for both companies, to combine their customer base and actually become more profitable. It would put an end to the competition and probably lower prices for the monthly subscription, as well. If so, it wouldn't be so difficult to persuade new customers to sign up for service.

Sirius and XM pointed out that as a result of the merger, the company hoped to offer subscribers an "a la carte" option, which would allow them to pick and choose the channels they wanted, such as Sirius' "Martha Stewart Living Radio" or XM's "Theme Time Radio Hour" with music legend Bob Dylan.

We'll see if it actually goes through, but I'm hoping it will. I love the satellite radio that I have in my car, I hear lots of new music, plus the older music that I love. There is never a shortage of entertainment via satellite radio. What do you think of the merger? Are you for it or against it? Post a comment to let us know what you think!

On November 9th, an exclusive performance by Alicia Keys will be aired on Sirius Satellite Radio. She will be promoting her new album, called 'As I Am', which is set to release on November 13th.

The performance, titled "Up Close And Personal With Alicia Keys", will be played on Sirius Ch. 51 'Heart and Soul'. Alicia will be performing songs from the album, which has been reviewed and is being called 'her most innovative album to date'. On the album, she collaberates with John Mayer and many other artists including Linda Perry and Harold Lilly.

If you have never heard Alicia Key's music, it is definitely worth checking out. This truly talented artist began playing piano at the age of 7 and writing her own music by the time she was only 14. Her first album, called 'Songs in A Minor' was amazing. The song 'Fallin' was an instant radio hit that you couldn't help but love.

So - don't forget to tune in. Your ears will not be disappointed!

This year's Women's Conference will get its own Sirius Satellite Radio channel (channel 119). The Women's Conference 2007, happening on October 23rd at the Long Beach Convention Center, will be hosted by California First Lady Maria Shriver and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The Women's Conference details "life-transforming experiences", has "fascinating speaker pairings, and once in a lifetime conversations". For 20 years, the conference has been a day-long convention for professional women to meet, network, learn, and be inspired. This year's theme is 'Remarkable Legacies'.

The women's conference channel on Sirius will stream audio of the conference, including entire speeches and panels, as well as interviews and commentary from Shriver. Sirius will air this special broadcast over a two-day period; Thursday, October 25th and Friday, October 26th. This is definitely something you don't want to miss!

Wow. Kawasaki Motorcycles has just annouced that they will be offering motorcycles with satellite radio this fall through a partnership with XM Satellite Radio. This is an excellent idea on Kawasaki's part, because XM is already available in 140 models of new cars, trucks, and motorcycles for 2007.
For now it will be offered on an all-new and state of the art sound system on their Vulcan 1600 Nomad touring model. The Senior Manager of Accessories at Kawasaki feels that it will greatly enhance their customers' ownership experience - and I think he's right! With a premium sound system and 170 channels of music, sports, and news - this value-added feature to Kawasaki's line-up should offer a spike in sales for the season.
Right now XM is the number one provider of satellite radio in the automobile markets. Not only have they partnered with Kawasaki, but XM has deals with General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Porsche, Toyota, and more!
I wonder what other partnerships XM and Sirius Satellite will come up with. Maybe satellite radio through a portable music player like iPod? That'd be interesting!

Keeping up with the music that my kids love is a full time job. It seems that once I finally figure out which cd to get my 10 year old daughter for her birthday, she has already moved on to the next big act (or boy band). Finally, my daughter said to me one day, "Mom, why can't we just listen to Radio Disney?"

Radio what?? I had no idea that Disney had its own radio station with music for kids! Last year I figured out that we could get the station in my car on some AM channel, but it was full of static and quite unbearable. I still swear that the sound of static combined with my daughter trying to sing along to Jesse McCartney's song 'Beautiful Soul' probably caused damage to my ear drums.

Fortunately, I decided to get Sirius Satellite in my car. Both Sirius and XM Satellite have a channel dedicated to Radio Disney, with crystal clear sound and no static.

The best part is, Disney music is safe for children to listen to. There are many songs that are played from the Disney movies, such as 'Under The Sea' from The Little Mermaid, but songs from other artists played on regular hits radio stations are also played. The difference though, is that the Disney versions are edited for content so that they don't hear anything inappropriate.

Your little ones will love hearing Radio Disney on your satellite radio! From Aly and AJ to Vanessa Hudgens, the station has all of their favorites. For long car trips, Radio Disney is a must!

If you are still listening to terrestrial radio, it's time to upgrade to satellite! www.SatelliteSweeps.com gives away a free satellite radio everyday. Go check out the website and enter your email address for a chance to win!
Besides my last post about Elvis Radio, Sirius and XM both offer a long list of satellite radio stations. There really is something for everyone! Slowly but surely, satellite radio players are storming the market due to the listeners' demands to hear something other than the same ten songs over and over again that are played on terrestrial radio.

The Sirius channel guide boasts 198 channels that include listener favorites such as Hair Nation (80's Hair Bands), The Beat (Dance Hits), New Country (Today's Country Hits), and Alt Nation (Alternative Rock). XM's channel listing is equally impressive. Offering "The Decades", there is a separate station starting from the 40's going to the 90's. Also, XM has multiple country, hits, rock, jazz, and dance stations to choose from.

Eventually, the cost of satellite radio equipment will go down. Right now, however, these two service providers face the obstacle of increasing their subscriber base, but it is especially challenging because of the associated costs. Traditional radio is free - and FREE is hard to compete with! But what if everyone was able to get a free satellite radio? It could mean a jump in subscription sales and that could equate to lowered monthly fees for everyone! It's a win/win situation.

Lots of people are already getting free satellite radios - and you could be one of them! http://www.satellitesweeps.com/ gives one away everyday. Go to the website and enter the sweepstakes for your chance to win!
If you are as big of an Elvis Presley fan as I am, you will appreciate the 'all-Elvis-all-the-time' radio station courtesy of Sirius Satellite radio. The radio station is broadcast live from Graceland, and they play it all. From the early years to classic Elvis songs, live tracks and more - you will hear it all.

Peppered in between the songs, you'll hear touching stories from listeners' memories about why a certain Elvis Presley song means so much to them, about when they bought their very first Elvis record, or even how they felt when they saw Elvis on television the first time.

One of my favorite things about Elvis Radio is getting to hear songs by Elvis Presley that I wouldn't normally hear on the radio or really anywhere else! I have listened to the Elvis station for 5 or 6 hours straight, and did not hear the same song twice.

If you do not have Sirius Satellite by now, you are really missing out! Most people that don't have satellite radio are probably just concerned about the cost, but you can get the equipment FREE! You can also get up to six months free of service, so that you can try it out and see if it's for you.

All you have to do is go to http://www.satellitesweeps.com/. It's all explained in very simple terms how to get yours. And the shipping is FREE too!

Tell everyone you know to sign up! Who else is going to give you free Sirius?
For anyone that is not already familiar with the radio talk show legend Howard Stern, they may have some pre-existing notions about the man that just aren’t true. For instance, while it is true that he can be a crass, lewd, and in-your-face radio personality, there is intelligence behind his banter that only other intellects that appreciate a “pull no punches” attitude and demeanor can appreciate.

Stern has amassed an almost cult following since the 1990s that can even be described as rabid. His loyal fans hang on his every word and understand that he is about much more than just curse words, lewd content, and naked women; he wants a change to the hypocrisy that is so prevalent in the United States government that many Americans have grown apathetic to. So while Stern is not a prim and proper conventional politician, the voices of his following grow louder each day as they proclaim incessantly, “Howard Stern for President!”

Stern has not yet publicly announced his presidential candidacy to the public, but it should be only a matter of time until he does. He has prided himself in sharing his views and voicing his opinions on such polarizing issues such as gay marriage, abortion, the Iraq War, and the War on Terror. Stern strongly believes that “desperate times calls for desperate measures” and is thus a strong proponent for sticking to his ideologies and the ideologies of his prospective constituents. He doesn’t mince words, he says what he feels, and he backs up his rhetoric with decisive and concentrated action.

While Stern has not yet announced which party, if any, he would adhere to, his past shows that he is strongly attached to Libertarianism. In 1994, he actively campaigned to run for governor of New York and ran on the Libertarian Party ticket. However, in his book Miss America, Stern admits that he knew little about the Libertarian Party when he decided to run, but he admired that they were “for less government and more individual freedom.”

Additionally, Stern has been known to rally his loyal listeners when he felt necessary. In the 2004 election, he took the time between jokes and banter to take shots at George Bush in hopes of swaying the popular vote to John Kerry. While obviously unsuccessful in that venture, one has to wonder how much of the voting power he did control in his repeated commentaries concerning the President who was running for reelection.

It is unclear when, if ever, Stern decides to throw his hat into the ring to attempt to become the next President of the United States of America. However, when he does decide that he is able to effectively garner enough of the American people’s support – which will undoubtedly be after they have become thoroughly disenchanted with conventional politicians – when the dust settles we will no longer be frustrated with a candidate that insults us with double speak. When Howard Stern runs for president, he will tell it exactly how it is.

Do you ever get tired of scanning through the same old radio stations in your car, only to find your favorite song barely coming through the static, or an endless amount of boring radio commercials? Well, I’m here to tell you…you are not alone. I had the very same frustrations until I got my own satellite radio. With a satellite radio, there are so many crystal clear, uninterrupted channels, that you are bound to find something you like. Whether it be an ESPN sports broadcast, Oprah talking about giving things away, or Justin Timberlake singing “Sexy Back,” there is a channel for everyone. Come to think about it, my only problem now that I actually have a satellite radio is, never wanting to get out of my car.

Lauren’s Top 20 Reasons an XM Satellite Radio is a Must:

20. Listening to Eminem on your radio will no longer sound like a test from the emergency broadcast system.

19. Whatever the music of your generation was, whether it be from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s or today, you can find it on XM radio.

18. Saying goodbye to interruptions on your favorite music station or show will give you less frustration and road rage. Imagine never having to listen to that bloody Gecko from the Geico commercials talk about car insurance ever again.

17. XM radio does not neglect its kid listeners by including family friendly channels such as, “Radio Disney” or “Family Talk.” In addition to these stations, you can also get parental block controls in order to prevent kids from listening to uncensored or age-inappropriate programming (only when they are in the car of course).

16. You can actually enjoy quality sound from a radio. I can safely say that is no longer an oxymoron.

15. Save yourself the time and money by experiencing the wonderful world of Cats in your own car. Who needs Broadway when you have the “Show Tunes” channel at your very finger tips?

14. Bilingual? Listen to songs in French and Spanish and spice up your day with “Latin Pop Hits,” and “Pop Hits en Français.”

13. Tired of listening to the same old artists? XM offers “The Verge” to introduce you to new emerging artists you won’t hear on FM radio. Now you can impress your friends by knowing the latest beats before they hit the streets.

12. Love Hockey, but hate listening to every other sport on ESPN news? No problem. Listen to “NHL Play-by-Play” and get all the hockey coverage you can handle.

11. Miss Church on Sunday? Have no fear. You can tune into “Spirit” to cleanse the soul.

10. No matter where you are in the world, whether it be in New York City, or on the highway driving across country, you will never have to worry about losing stations. No more static, or out of range stations for you!

9. If you are ever having a lousy day and just need to laugh, satellite radio is there for you. Channels like “Laugh Attack,” and “Laugh USA,” will be sure to turn your frown upside down.

8. When’s the last time you remember enjoying being stuck in traffic? How about praying for it? If you had satellite radio you’d know what I’m talking about.

7. Got the Blues? So does XM radio, on many different channels in fact.

6. Satellite radio has certain channels that offer exclusive interviews with certain celebrities. Now you can accomplish all of your celebrity stalking in the comfort of your own car.

5. Just fall in love with that special someone? XM radio knows what you want to hear with channels like “The Heart” to keep your heart beating for that lucky guy or girl.

4. Take control of your sanity. Satellite radio knows how to switch it up by not playing the same song every 15 minutes.

3. With over 170 Channels, you can listen to a different channel everyday for almost half of a year.

2. Want to dance like no one’s watching? Well XM radio will supply the dance music, if you supply the tinted windows.

1. You don’t have to worry about losing your car antenna at the car wash.

I could go on, but I think you get the idea. Take it from me. Satellite radio is the way to go. Until I post again…

-Lauren
