It's one of the most practiced forms of exercise today, and even though it is done predominantly by women, many men practice yoga exercises, as well. Yoga originated in India about 5000 years ago and it consists of specific positions or postures and a form of meditation, which in its most historic form, was thought to bring understanding or insight into the nature of existence. Today, however, yoga is practiced mostly with the hope of achieving better health - just like any other form of exercise. The religious part of yoga is not as widely practiced, as people from many different religious backgrounds do yoga. Essentially, though, people who practice yoga positions still want the same thing: harmony with nature, mind, body, and spirit. If you are interested, finding information on yoga for beginners is easy. A search on the internet will turn up thousands of results and there are many different yoga classes or yoga videos to choose from for instruction. Everyone can improve their life and health through the benefits of yoga. If you don't know where to start, you can try signing up for Yoga Tips at TxtVox. TxtVox will send daily yoga tips right to your cell phone - FREE! If you are interested in Yoga at all, it is worth signing up for. Today's Word of the Day: Catamaran 1. A boat with two parallel hulls, joined by a frame. 2. A quarrelsome woman; a scold. At TxtVox, you can sign up for the 'Word of the Day' via free daily cell phone alerts. It's like your own mobile dictionary. Impress your friends with your sophisticated and broad vocabulary and use the words in a sentence when you get them. Here's my sentence for 'catamaran': "I told myself I'd never marry a man unless he had a boat; so when I started dating a man with a catamaran, I knew I'd found the one!" Post a comment with your own sentence using today's Word of the Day! I'm getting sick of having to filter through some of the "news" that fills newspapers and internet. I personally read the news because I want to know what is happening in the world; I want the information my brain needs to formulate an educated and informed opinion about the state of the world. Newspapers and websites really do fall short -- today's news (CNN, 20 December 2007) has, on the front page, in order of "importance": The fact is, I am not really getting the information I need when I read the papers and websites like CNN - unless I really filter through the website to the very smallest section. Instead, I am getting human-interest crap, with blown up photos, and little itty bitty sections of reporting about things that are truly important. And there is ZERO coverage of the things that matter most -- people's state of awareness and action about the world around them. I personally cannot make informed decisions about the world I live in without such information. I hate having to live in such a fact-free environment and with such a skewed picture of the world. It's just too much work to filter through it. If you feel the way I do, go ahead and sign up with TxtVox for 'Breaking News' alerts. The information is sent right to your cell phone for FREE - no filtering through pointless news stories. Who else is sick of the factless, and pointless news? If you are, post a comment and vent about it here! If you scroll through your personal choices of ringtones that your cell phone comes with, it won't take you long to realize how boring the list is. If you are wondering how to get free ringtones to add to your phone, all you have to do is sign up with TxtVox. TxtVox will send free ringtones right to your cell phone every day for you to download and use. Free cell phone ringtones are not easy to come by, especially when most cell phone providers charge $2.99 or more to download one for your phone from their website. It doesn't take long before you'll get tired of it, which is what they are hoping, and then you'll have to download another one. There's nothing wrong with paying for a specific ringtone that you want, but if you want to get free ringtones, then go to www.TxtVox.com and sign up for your free daily ringtone. While you are there, you can also sign up for Joke of the Day, Quote of the Day, Breaking News, and more! I thought today I'd post my five favorite famous quotes. "I want to know God's thoughts... the rest are details." - Albert Einstein "An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind." - M.K. Gandhi "Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great." - Mark Twain "Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius." - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart "You can have everything in life that you want if you just give enough other people what they want." - Zig Ziglar Feng Shui, literally meaning "wind water", has become a very recognized form of interior decorating in the United States. Feng Shui is seen as a form of geomancy, that is, divination via geographic features. In its most basic form, Feng Shui is a way of understanding the relationship between ourselves and nature so that we can live in harmony with our personal environment. Many masters of Feng Shui who are aware of and understand the five elements and two energies (chi and sha) have put their services on the market and they will come in and analyze your surroundings and even detect metaphysical energies so that they can give you direction for the optimal flow of furniture and other items in a given room for "optimal flow". These masters are very pricey, though, and it is possible to learn Feng Shui from reading books. There are several available on the subject. Even celebrities such as Donald Trump have used this form of interior decorating to ensure wealth and to maximize potential, so to speak. If you are interested in learning, you should definitely sign up for free Feng Shui tips from TxtVox. How many 17 year old CEO's do you know? Well, Ashley Qualls, founder of Whateverlife.com, is just that. Whateverlife is a website that Ashley started in her free time that offered girly MySpace layouts for teenage girls. That is a very niche market, but she had it cornered. And get this - her product is FREE. She made her money through ads placed on her website. Ashely teamed up with ValueClick late last year, which is an online marketing company. So her only major source of income is brought in through advertising. And now, she has a multi-million dollar business, and has rejected several lucrative offers to buy out her company. In the short time that she has had the website, she has already dropped out of high school to run the company, bought a house, and even hired employees to help out. She is at this point, truly an internet professional. This really is the ultimate girl power story. She gives us all hope that ingenuity can still make us millionaires and with over 60 million pageviews per month, her business model speaks for itself. I really wish I had read the movie reviews before we went, because it just wasn't very good. The attention to details in the animation, which was beautiful by the way, seemed more important than the actual story, so even my daughters didn't pay much attention to what was going on. Also, Seinfeld's jokes distract from the story - and some of the jokes, including those from Ray Liotta, my daughters didn't even understand. Overall, the movie was just awkward. There are other movies I want to see: American Gangster, Dan In Real Life, and 30 Days of Night...but I think I'll wait to see what the reviews say before I get my tickets. At TxtVox, you can sign up to receive movie reviews sent to your cell phone for FREE. If anyone has seen these movies, though, feel free to post a comment and tell me what you thought about it. Don't ruin the ending, though! Do you love quotes? Movie quotes or just a random quote of the day? "A penny saved is a penny earned." "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." I love all of them. Well, if you are into those thought of the day quotes, you should definitely check out TxtVox. I am hooked! The quote of the day is one of the best offerings from TxtVox. It is a free daily text alert to your cell phone. You can also get weather, breaking news, sports scores, and a bible quote of the day which is actually a scripture of the day. The best part...It's all Free! My very favorite quote is: "Tell a man there are 300 billion stars in the universe and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he'll have to touch it to be sure. ~Murphy's Law" How true is that? What is your favorite quote? Please feel free to post a comment to let us know yours! Have you been trying to find a job? I know from personal experience that the online job listings can be overwhelming. You have to search through pages and pages of job openings that you may not want or may not be qualified for. Whether you are looking for a computer job, a marketing job, or just a temporary or part-time job, the job search is rarely ever easy. Below are 10 Interview Tips that may help you once you do get the call back you've been waiting for. 1. Arrive at least 15 minutes early. 2. Do your homework on the company! Review mission statements and their website for any helpful information. 3. Prepare and practice responses to likely questions. 4. Bring a few copies of your updated resume, including one for yourself that you can refer to. 5. Don't answer questions with a simple "yes" or "no". Always explain your answer. 6. Be very clear about your strengths and be able to give examples. 7. Show what you know. Try to relate what you know about the company when answering questions. 8. Be prepared to ask the interviewer questions. You should seem interested if you really want the position. 9. Don't say anything negative about a past employer. 10. Always follow-up to say thank you for their time and to let them know you are still interested in the job opening. How many of you have been offered a job from an online job listing? Feel free to leave us a comment to let us know about it - or anything that could help other job searchers land that perfect job! If you personally can't find the time to search through all the listings in your job search, TxtVox can help you out. Just register on the site to get free job listing alerts sent to your cell phone. Does anyone else out there feel like I do about Craigslist? I LOVE it. How can you not? The website is the most comprehensive local classified ads that I have found so far!
If you are planning on buying used furniture, Craigslist is definitely the first place you should look. I have a friend who outfitted her entire 2-bedroom apartment from furniture she bought from those listings - and she only spent $875.00. That included furniture to fill every single room - and it was all very cute and chic items that would have cost a lot more new. There is also real estate for sale, which is the section that I am most interested in right now. I have found hundreds of houses in the area where I want to live, which mostly eliminates the need for a real estate agent. I'm all for saving money when I'm ready to purchase a house! My sister has embraced the "ride share" section, since her car recently broke down. This section tries to match people up for carpooling, whether it be just for the daily ride to work or even for long distance trips. I've seen people on there looking to share rides all the way to New York! And just like any classifieds, there are personal ads. Although it looks like you could probably meet some cool people locally, you have to be really careful in there. Not only are there scam artists, but the ads are not censored in any way - including the pictures! One of the frustrating things, though, is sifting through all of the ads to find what you want. There are hundreds! But TxtVox does offer a service via a free daily alert that will search Craigslist for you and text only those listings to your cell phone. If you are looking for something specific, you should definitely try it out. It can save you an enormous amout of time and frustration. Just go to http://www.txtvox.com/ to register and pick your daily alerts. You can also choose alerts for free horoscope, sports scores, breaking news and more! Ever wonder how the bartender makes such a great mojito? What is the secret? Mixed drinks can be difficult to make if you don't have a good recipe. But you can do it! Learning how to make some of the most popular drinks can be a good excuse to have a cocktail party. Cocktail parties are easier than having a dinner party and it's always a good excuse to connect with friends on a more personal level. Going to a local bar usually means yelling over the crowd and having a good conversation with a friend is pretty much out of the question. Learn how to make drinks for yourself or just so you can be the life of the party to impress your friends. You can get a cocktail recipe everyday of the week from www.TxtVox.com FREE! While you're there, check out all of the free daily alerts you can get. Daily Ringtone, Breaking News, Daily Horoscope, and more! And if you like mojitos, you will LOVE this cocktail recipe. It's called a Caipirinha. * 2 tsp granulated sugar, * 8 lime wedges, * 2 1/2 oz Cachaca Muddle the sugar into the lime wedges in an old-fashioned glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes. Pour the cachaca into the glass. Stir well. Enjoy! As local gas stations are forced to raise fuel prices, most Americans are already feeling the squeeze on their family budgets. In places like Florida, New York, and California, gas prices are just under $3.00/gallon. What are the prices in your neighborhood? The sad thing is, people now have to make other sacrifices just to be able to afford gas. One of my co-workers, a single mother, told me that she can no longer even treat her kids to a Friday night movie due to rising gas and energy prices. Wouldn’t it be nice to know which gas station in your area is offering the best price? In my opinion, even saving a few cents per gallon can add up to a lot of savings over time. But who has time to drive around to compare gas prices? I know I don’t. Luckily, www.TxtVox.com offers free daily text message alerts to help you save on gas. If you want to be the first to know where to find the best gas prices, just register for the free daily alerts. Get the information you want, when you want it. FREE! Q: A pirate walks into a bar and the barkeep says, "Excuse me, Cap'n, but did you know that you've got your ship's wheel stuck in your pants?!" A: "Aye", says the pirate, "It's driving me nuts! Aarrrrgh!" Besides the super funny Joke of the Day, http://www.txtvox.com/ delivers other really great alerts to your personal cell phone for FREE! Just a quick update. We added a new alert to the site today that we're very excited about. It's called Daily Ringtone. When you subscribe, we'll send you a link to a free ringtone every day. Give it a try. What a great way to keep your cell phone ringtones fresh! We have some more new alerts coming soon, maybe later this week. Thanks for being a TxtVox member. Phil I am happy to say that a lot of people have been joining TxtVox and signing up for alerts. And the feedback that we've received from folks so far has been very positive. It's gratifying to see an idea turn into reality! That's what I love about building businesses.
During this early growth stage, we have experienced a few growing pains (keep in mind, the site is still in Beta). We are aware of a few sporadic delivery problems with various alerts. We are addressing this issue and we apologize for any inconvenience. We will be adding several additional alerts to the site soon. Some practical, some entertaining. I hope you will give them a try. As a result of all the new alerts we've been introducing, we think it's a good idea to redesign our home page. We want to display the alerts in a more efficient way that doesn't require so much scrolling. The new page has been designed and is currently being tested. It should be launched soon. Please give us your feedback about the new page once it's live. Have you noticed that when you get longer alerts, we have started including a link to a WAP page so that you can read the entire alert? When the content of an alert is too long, we can't fit it all into a text message. So we added a link (preceded by "MORE>"). Just click through on that link to read the entire alert. It's a WAP page, so it will work from any WAP-enabled device. TxtVox alerts look great on the new iPhone. Wow! Just a reminder that we are able to bring you the TxtVox service without charge because we are supported by our advertisers. Please support them when possible by clicking on their ads and taking advantage of their offers. Thanks :) Thanks for your continued support. Phil My business partner, Bill, loves to get his Boston Red Sox TxtVox alerts...except when the Sox lose. Here's a tip: Blackberries do not bounce and they do not float, but they can break windows. So if your an emotional fan like Bill, you may want to have a friend read your TxtVox alerts to you. Just a helpful tip.
Phil Hi All,
Did you see all of the new content channels we added to the site yesterday? We added a lot of original content that can't be found anywhere else. You'll now find Music Reviews, Movie Reviews, Joke of the Day, Fashion Tips, Scripture of the Day, Word of the Day, Girl Power, and Sports Stars. For you dog and cat lovers, we have also added Daily Doggie and Daily Kitty, both of which are very funny as they are written from the pet's perspective. And finally, we added a channel called Anti-Celebrity, which provides a humorous slant on Hollywood. I encourage you to try some of these new channels. Just log in to your TxtVox account by clicking on the Sign In link in the top right corner of the page at http://www.TxtVox.com. Don't forget--if you ever want to stop receiving certain types of alerts, simply log in to your account and click on the trash can icon next to the alert. Please let me know what you think of the new content channels we've added. We'll have many more surprises for you soon. --Phil Hi,
Welcome to the TxtVox.com blog. Thank you for your interest. The purpose of this blog is to keep you up to date on what's happening with TxtVox--new features and content, our growth, challenges we experience along the way and more. But we do not intend this blog to be a monologue or a one-way form of communication. We want to establish a dialogue with you. We want your input, your ideas, your suggestions. I know it sounds cliche, but we really do want to build a community around TxtVox. The TxtVox web site is still in beta. What that means is that we are still working out a lot of kinks. The service works, members are joining (rapidly!) and alerts are going out. But we are constantly identifying and fixing bugs in the code. We could really use your help. If you notice something with the web site or the alerts that doesn't seem quite right or could be done better, please let us know by leaving a comment on this blog or by sending an email to us at helpdesk@txtvox.com. We have no pride in authorship--we want just to make this the best service possible, so feel free to share all of your thoughts about TxtVox, minor or major. We started TxtVox as an alert service for your cell phone. But it is going to be so much more. In the coming weeks and months, we are going to be unveiling a slew of new features, some of which may actually change the way we communicate and interact. We will also be introducing many exciting new content channels designed to keep you informed and entertained. Thanks again for your participation. --Phil Nadel President and Co-Founder of TxtVox |
