Every day for a full year, composer David Morneau will create a new 60-second composition. These new works will vary in style and approach, including sampled, idm, experimantal, acousmatic, electronic, drumming, ambient, and maxmsp compositions. At Last -- So here it is, the final composition. To celebrate, I've created a collage of endings. It's hard to believe that this year is over. It's been an incredible experience composing a complete piece every day. What began as an idea about composing for the internet became a lifestyle. Everything in my life became an idea for a new piece. I was creating everyday and people were listening everyday. It was fantastic. Thank you for listening. attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.44 MB here Sun, 29 Jun 2008 19:48:46 +0200 listen
Breezy -- Some synthetic wind chimes for this lazy Sunday. attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.68 MB here Sun, 29 Jun 2008 05:53:09 +0200 listen
Interference -- noisy ambient, if there is such a thing. attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.63 MB here Sat, 28 Jun 2008 06:11:46 +0200 listen
Miss Break -- Like yesterday's piece, this is built using the drum break from Jimi Hendrix's Little Miss Lover. Very early on in this project I imagined making a whole series of pieces using drum breaks other than the amen break, but never that idea never quite materialized... attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.75 MB here Fri, 27 Jun 2008 06:20:30 +0200 listen
Little Broken -- yeah, I don't what to say... there's drums. attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.81 MB here Sun, 29 Jun 2008 19:52:05 +0200 listen
Won't You Come Out To Play -- My uncle is visiting (again!). While enjoying our post-pizza cannoli, our conversation turned to the Beatles and my podcast. So, with a little help from my uncle, we took the last four notes of Dear Prudence, slowed them down, layered them on top of themselves, added a looping drone from Within You Without You, and finished it with children coming out to play, courtesy of dobroide at the Freesound Project. attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.46 MB here Wed, 25 Jun 2008 06:07:10 +0200 listen
Rock-Gut -- I found out last Thursday that NPR wants to do a story about 60x365 on All Things Considered. Very exciting. So today I went to the NPR studio here in New York to tape an interview with Robert Siegel. It was a lot of fun, he's very gracious and patient. The experience was extremely surreal. He was in the studio in DC so I only heard him. Since he speaks very naturally on air there's no perceptible difference in his voice between when he's making small talk and when he's conducting the interview. It was very much like having a conversation with my radio. (Even stranger was getting to sit next to Jason Bateman in the reception area before being interviewed.) The point to this story is that I've been extremely nervous for the past two days. More than your basic nervous, a real stressed-out-rock-in-my-gut kind of nervous. So for today's piece I wanted to celebrate not feeling that way anymore by making music that sounds like it. (Right now my interview is scheduled to air on Monday, June 30. And no, I don't know when Jason Bateman's interview will air...) attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 2.12 MB here Tue, 24 Jun 2008 05:40:37 +0200 listen

Swept -- Lillian , good friend of 60x365, made final suggestion for a piece built from wind sounds. It's more sliced than I imagined it would be when I started, but that happens here sometimes. attributions: wind.wav by jaimedaniel whislingwind.WAV by stomachache Wind in the trees-2.wav by laurent attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.68 MB here Sun, 22 Jun 2008 04:59:41 +0200 listen
Siren Song -- This started off as the sound of a police siren, originally recorded by Freesound user acutescream. attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.74 MB here Sat, 21 Jun 2008 07:54:57 +0200 listen
Dreams Are This -- Tonight JoLayne and I went to a birthday party at a very loud bar. One of the songs to blare out for the DJ's PA was the Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams. Since it's gotten itself stuck in my head I decided it was fair game for a little reworking. Enjoy. attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.82 MB here Fri, 20 Jun 2008 05:29:16 +0200 listen
Spaced Out -- Last weekend I checked out David Byrne's Playing the Building installation. Using an old organ as a controller, visitors can "play" an old warehouse. Different keys activate blowers and hammers around the space. Standing in the middle of the room you can hear the sounds move around you as people play on the organ. Today's piece was inspired by that listening experience. Using slivers of a field recording by Bram at the Freesound Project I created a similar experience of sounds moving around the listener. The effect is heightened by listening with headphones. Enjoy. attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 938.63 KB here Thu, 19 Jun 2008 06:20:14 +0200 listen

Rhymes with Trucker -- Our former landlords were lazy, incompetent, and more than a bit sleazy. I mention this only because we're still dealing with them, and they still manage to make me angry. Oh well. attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 2.05 MB here Mon, 16 Jun 2008 06:22:12 +0200 listen

Etude -- So many of these pieces have been etudes, I tried to avoid using that as a title, but now that the end is near it doesn't seem to matter. attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.68 MB here Fri, 13 Jun 2008 04:05:18 +0200 listen

Last Break -- I wanted to use the amen break one more time this year. As you'll hear it's been filtered well past the point of recognition. Think of this as a sign of things to come... attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.62 MB here Wed, 11 Jun 2008 15:29:16 +0200 listen
Staying -- It's been a while since I've made a sample-based piece. So I grabbed Bjork's Debut and made this little collage. Enjoy... attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.62 MB here Thu, 12 Jun 2008 06:52:13 +0200 listen

Clouds -- This is a little generative sequencer I've built in MaxMSP. It chooses which notes to play when (with a little user guidance at the beginning...). The synth sound is still on the simple side, but that's the next project. For now, enjoy this chill little minute. attached file: type: audio/mpeg size: 1.37 MB here Thu, 12 Jun 2008 06:52:13 +0200 listen
