MBBS/BDS COURSE FOR 2008-2009 SESSION IMPORTANT NOTICE
IT IS HEREBY INFORMED THAT THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA, MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT, NEW DELHI HAS DECLARED CHETTINAD HOSPITAL AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE, PADUR, KELAMBAKKAM, CHENNAI AS DEEMED – TO BE – UNIVERSITY IN THEIR NOTIFICATION NO.F.9- 48/2008-U-3(A) DATED 4-08-2008. LETTER COMMUNICATED ON 06-08-2008. HENCE THE SAID INSTITUTE WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE SEAT MATRIX FOR ALLOTMENT OF CANDIDATES FOR MBBS COURSE UNDER SELF-FINANCING CATEGORY DURING THE COUNSELLING TO BE HELD ON 13-08-2008.
From this year onwards, the Dharmapuri Government Medical College would conduct MBBS classes. The classes for first year students would commence on August 1 this year, said Dr T P Kalanidhi, Director of Medical Education (DME), here on Thursday.
He said the process for starting admissions and conducting classes has been speeded up, as the college had received permission for the same from the Medical Council of India (MCI).
Out of the Rs 120 crore allocated by the Tamil Nadu Government for constructing new building, Rs 55 crore has been released in phase-1 for setting up lab facilities.
The tender for building construction would be finalised by the end of June. Till the new building is ready, the college would function from a building, constructed for hospital purposes under the Tamil Nadu Health System Project, he said.
According to the DME, there will be 17 departments with 94 professors and 100 students. Out of this, the departments of anatomy, physiology, bio-chemistry and community medicine would start functioning on August 1.
The other departments would be established soon. Apart from teaching staff, 74 nurses would be posted at the medical college, Kalanidhi said.
Better infrastructure facilities would be added in a phased manner. Doctors working at Dharmapuri District Head Quarters Hospital would be appointed at the medical college and further posts filled before August , he said.
Adequate stock of all medicines would be maintained at the hospital, he said, adding that Anti Rabies Vaccine (ARV) would be stored at medical godowns. Both the ARV and insulin are being administered to the patients, free of cost.
"The rank list for admissions is ready. After getting consent from the government, it will be uploaded. Students can know their admission status by logging into the website www.tnhealth.org," Kalanidhi said.
College Dean M Kanagasabai, RMO Sundaravadhanam and senior medical surgeon T Natarajan were also present.
