Tony was born on 29th February 1960, a birthday he should only celebrate every leap year. He often talks about his mother having several partners and he having several fathers during his upbringing. The Robbins family often did not have much money and he has talked about charity being offered to them on Thanks Giving.

Anthony Robbins has always been big in stature, but also big on goals too. By his late teens he had already found himself studying NLP (Nero Linguistic Programming) with John Grinder, one of the founders of NLP. He did this by just pure determination and not excepting a no for an answer, so that John finally agreed to show him the skills. Still in his late teens he developed his own diamond method and became very popular in helping peoples' fears and phobias.

He was labelled the "Wonder Kid" and was even written about in the national press and was earning some quite substantial money for someone of his age. But with success came self destruction and soon after, Anthony Robbins found himself sitting in a bachelor pad, overweight and where his biggest priority was to watch general Hospital on TV.

He describes a friend coming around to his apartment and convincing him that he was wasting his life away as the turning point at this stage. Anthony clearly had the tools and skills; he just was choosing not to demand more from himself. From this day he never looked back.

Robbins big break came in Canada, where on a local radio station he challenged that he could cure anyone with a phobia or fear instantly. He was challenged by a local Physiologist, who had a patient he had been working on for years and had never been able to cure her. That night on stage at a local hotel, many people had turned up to see this dual between Robbins and the physiologist. So many, that the audience was forced to stand around the walls. The patient had been afraid of snakes and nothing that she had tried in the past had worked. Tony used his skills that he had learnt with NLP and a bit of entertainment to, and sure enough within seconds, this lady was quite happy to have snakes around her.

The publicly from this event sent Tony’s career forward at an incredible speed, everyone wanted a piece of Robbins knowledge and skills. With one year Anthony was a multimillionaire living in a castle above the cliffs of California. His books became instant best sellers and his motivational tapes were sold over the world and became the best selling motivational tapes ever. Tony was pretty much elevated to superstar status.

He now found himself helping the rich and famous. Names that publicly support Tony’s work are Michael Douglas, Andre Agassi, Quincy Jones and countless more. He has also been associated with 2 presidents, Nelson Mandella and even Princess Diana. Clearly a seriously impressive portfolio!

But at his peak, Anthony was to disappoint his fans by announcing his divorce from his wife of many years Becky. Becky had appeared on many of his tapes, had a book dedicated to her, but what really upset his followers was that his divorce seemed to contradict his teachings in his books and tapes. He had often used his relationship with Becky to show that people are different and that happy relationships can be formed and can be lasting if you follow some of Anthony’s lessons.

Although some people never forgave Tony for these events, most people moved on from this realising that Tony is just as human as everyone else and happiness has to be the major factor of life. Becky apparently is still a friend with Robbins and she still works at one of his companies.

Robbins used the lessons from his own divorce, to put into his seminars and books to make him more popular than ever and now with his new wife is as active as he ever was.

Now in his forties, he sleeps only a few hours a day, has relentless energy and never accepts anything less than the best. Even after his seminars, which often finish at the early hours of the morning, he still goes to work to find out what he could have done better. Of course there are still those who criticise him and what he teaches and even those who think he is a fraud. But you cannot deny that Anthony Robbins has had an extraordinary life and like him or love him, extremely successful.

Never used ‘em. Not likely to start now.

OK, so I just lied a little bit. (Is that anything like being a little bit pregnant?) I really didn’t mean to. (Hmmm, that comment could be applicable to the pregnant thing too but actually I was referring to my lying.)

I guess the one positive affirmation that I commonly use is not so much a phrase that I repeat or think about periodically throughout the day – it’s more like an answer to a question. The question? “How ya doin’?”

My answer will likely be “Super! And you?” Once in a while it may slip to “Really good!” and occasionally it will pop up to “Fantastic!” but most of the time I cruise through the day at a “super” level. Do I mean it? Well, of course I do. I wouldn’t lie about something like that. And no, I wasn’t always “super” – but many years ago I started saying it anyway because I had heard that if you start thinking more positively your life will be better. So I tried it and it worked – well, sort of. Once I figured out – with help naturally – that I really had to do something to make some changes in my life so that it would be “super” – it became “super”. I’m still doing things and making changes so that I can be “double super”. I think that probably equates to somewhere close to “fantastic”.

So I guess when you get right down to it, I do use a positive affirmation – along with positively oriented actions to do those things I want to do. But that’s it. That’s the only positive affirmation I use!

OK, except for maybe another exception that I just thought of. When I get out of bed in the morning and am having my first cup of coffee, I do think about what a great day it is (yes, no matter what the weather is or what I need to do that day) and how great it is to be alive and to be able to experience just living. I think about that for awhile and then I chat with my spiritual director and say “thanks” for allowing me to be me and permitting me to have the opportunity to learn and enjoy this great creation. Then I usually have another cup of coffee and think about this a little more as I make plans for doing those things I believe I should do during the day. But that’s it. That’s the only other positive affirmation I use!

Well, maybe except for the times that I experience something really neat during the day. Like meeting someone new – or just getting to know an old friend a little better. Or like seeing a situation develop and realizing that the odds of it happening just coincidentally would be totally astronomical. Or like noticing the strange little plant that popped up just outside of the flower bed has really cool leaf markings. Or like feeling the morning dew on my bare feet as I walk across the front lawn. Or – well, you get the idea. But since I’m “fessing up” here, I know I have a pile of good, positive thoughts at these times and I suppose you could say these would be a type of positive affirmation. But that’s it. Those are the only other positive affirmations I use!

Well, maybe except for when I’m getting ready for bed and I take a few minutes to think back on my day and all the really good things I’ve seen and experienced and I take just a minute to thank my master teacher for giving me the opportunity to enjoy another day. I guess you could consider that to be a type of positive affirmation.

But that’s it. That’s the only other positive affirmation I use! I just don’t believe in ‘em…

Negative or poor self esteem is also highly correlated with alcohol and drug dependency. While it appears that Positive Affirmationsthe importance of positive self esteem is somewhat understood, the unanswered question has always been about how to improve or enhance a persons self-esteem.

The fundamental reason why positive affirmations are so effective is that their nature or structure reflects what already exists in our mind. This subconscious brain training, gives us the instinct and ability to walk down the street, without having to employ each muscle individually by our conscious mind. Listening to positive affirmations before sleep also allows the person’s mind to begin this restructuring or reprogramming process even while the individual sleeps by taking the words and language into their dream state. Positive affirmations work for everyone, as its very nature merely amplifies what already is in our minds.

Thoughts are things

Thoughts are a form of energy that we send out into the universe. Thoughts and feelings How to express them. That means that you are disrespectful of your thoughts. Trash Can Technique Good for getting rid of negative thoughts. One is for all the thoughts and personal traits that you want to get rid of. Be sure to replace them with positive thoughts and affirmations. Then light a fire in a bowl and put the bad list in, and tell the world (doesn't have to be load, though it could) that you release these thoughts. The other is for the positive thoughts and traits that will fill the vaccuum created by the departing thoughts.

Negative mind

Negative Self-Scripts are negative beliefs you have about yourself, which you remind yourself daily by sprinkling your everyday conversation. Negativeself-esteem can create anxiety, stress, loneliness, depression,problems with relationships, seriously impair academic and job performance and also can generate an increased vulnerability to drug and alcohol abuse and dependency.


Negative or poor self-esteem is also highly correlated with alcohol and drug dependency it is used to numb or ward off the emotional pain whose root cause is emotional, mental physical and/or sexual trauma. We grow up beleiving certain things about ourselves or comparing ourselves negatively to others. The use of positive affirmations is a technique to change that negative self-talk into something more positive. Since we've spent many years on the negative image I think it's unreasonable to expect an instant effect from affirmations, but if we stick to it for a few days, with honesty, trust, and belief, then results will start to happen.

Personal affirmation


This is my personal belief on how affirmations works for me. Some belief that a persons self esteem rests upon them being successful, in accomplishing that which they take on in life, of achieving goals that they have set for themselves. To this end training is given to help a person improve his interpersonal skills, how he communicates and relates with others.

Ones self esteem is not given or to be obtained from without, external to the person. While a person can have a beneficial result from listening to a commercially developed product that employs positive affirmations recorded by another, the transformative power of this technology is enhanced or strengthened by the positive messages being delivered in the persons own voice. By using a persons own voice to transform the inner dialogue, there is less resistance to the transformational process due to the fact that the voice itself is the same or identical.


Mirror Affirmation Technique


Mirror Affirmation Technique This technique is great for helping you see yourself as beautiful. Anywhere technique: Whenever you catch yourself thinking something you would rather not, here is a technique that works rather well. Its that sentence you kept saying to yourself when you were learning to ride a bike, its your determination, do you think that you could ever have ridden down the street, if your thoughts and beliefs were, I can not. Similar to a self-fulfilling prophecy, if you continually repeat it to yourself, the subconscious mind will make it become the truth. On the other hand, if you give free reign to negative thoughts you will find yourself often feeling tired.



Repeating these affirmations becomes self-fulfilling since you will have more fun and see more results. Our identity or who we think we are, our current thinking patterns, are also a series of affirmations, composed fundamentally of mere words or language. When combined with binaural audio tones the relaxing affect of the therapeutic relaxation music is greatly enhanced.

Can Positive Affirmations really change your life and give you all the things you truly desire?

Yes they can! I'd like to tell you a short story. In fact it's my story! Many years ago, my wife and I had nothing. We struggled to get through financially and we were both very negative towards life itself. The glass was always half empty, never half full.

We muddled through life, living day to day, until one day a friend of ours lent us a copy of the book 'Think and Grow Rich'. I must admit at this time I hadn't read a book since I left school. I flicked through the pages and my interest heightened. I read that book from cover to cover. Then I read it again. I couldn't put it down.

This was the turning point in my life when I realised I could turn my life around by the way I thought and my attitude to life. I discovered the power of positive affirmations.

I became obsessed with self help books and tapes. I practiced positive affirmations on a daily basis. My firends and family thought I was taking happy pills. I saw life for what it really is......an opportunity! Life is not to be treated lightly, you only get one shot at it, so why not give it all you've got.

My positive attitude rubbed off on many people. It's infectious, and the best thing is people are attracted to the naturally positive.

My wife and I set goals. Small ones to start with. We made a list of all the things we wanted and ticked them off one by one as we achieved them.
Finally we moved onto the one thing we always wanted to do. Pay our mortgage off. We did this in four years (bearing in mind, money was tight) and ever since we have grown financially and emotionally.

Through positive affirmations, we are now financially sound, have two wonderful children and live life to the full. We let no one bring us down with their negative attitudes.

The mind is a wonderful and POWERFUL tool. You can do anything you want to if you THINK you can. If you want something bad enough, you will find a way to get it. Believe in yourself, practice positive affirmations every day and you will become what you think about every day.

What makes rich people rich? They are driven by belief. They let nothing deter them in their quest to succeed. They just practice positive behaviour every day in everything they do. If they have a set back, they dust themselves off and get back up. They don't ever give up!

Positive Affirmations
are the communication between the conscious thought part of the mind and the subconscious action part of the mind. We use affirmations every day without even thinking about it. Some are positive and some are negative. Unfortunately, many affirmations are negative, which generally leads to low self esteem, bad decision making and a negative attitude.

By practising positive daily affirmations, you really can change your outlook, heighten your self esteem and achieve success in whatever area you choose.

Human beings have the control to tell their subconscious mind positive thoughts, which in turn have a huge positive impact on the mind and the actions which follow. Positive affirmations are a way of doing just this.

Positive Daily affirmations should be practiced without fail. Decide what it is you desire. Write down the EXACT phrase that applies to your desire. You will need to visualise and really see yourself in possession of whatever it is you desire. It could be personal happiness, love, wealth, a better career, etc...

You then need to read aloud your positive affirmation on a daily basis at least twice a day.

Now, here comes the main ingredient that will ensure these positive daily affirmations for success will really work. Belief! It is not enough that you just say something over and over again, you have to see yourself already in the position of having achieved your set goal.

If it is wealth for example that your positive daily affirmations are focusing on, then you need to see yourself already wealthy. You own the car of your choice, the house, the boat etc.... You dine in the best restaurants, the waiter knows you personally and shows you to your own personal table..... Get the picture?

Being emotionally involved with your goals and dreams will propel the effect of your positive affirmations. Believe in yourself! The human mind combined with a strong will, can achieve wonderful things. The power is within you!

Firstly,
the secrets lie in knowing what you really want? .
DEFINE it!
PLAN ahead carefully... HOW will you BEST achieve the object of your desires, your aspirations and even fulfil your dreams. Leave to the subconscious mind, which works 24/7. Pray, if you are a "religiously -minded" person. Riches are not beyond you.
It may be the turning point of your life. All achievement, all earned riches, have their beginning in an idea!
The power of your mind signals success. Riches begin with a state of mind, a definiteness of purpose and DESIRE is the well-spring of all achievement.

Then when you move that intention forward each day you build up energy. Every small action you take each day then creates momentum, like a ball of snow rolling down a mountainside getting ever greater.

You will move in the direction of your most dominant thoughts.
Dreams come true, when desire transforms them into concrete action. Ask life for great gifts and you encourage life to deliver them to you. Have no way to retreat - me!

1. Fix the exact amount of money you require (if that is what you really want most out of life):
Have a date, plan, a time for achieving your financial goals; then read out this statement (either to yourself, or someone else). Doing this embeds it in your consciousness, so it becomes a focus.

Stay positive and optimistic in the face of adversity. John Bunyan wrote 'Pilgrims Progress' after being confined to prison and punished for his religious views. Dickens began by pasting labels on blacking pots (David Copperfield) . Helen Keller was deaf, dumb and blind - a true inspiration to humanity. There is strong evidence that no one is ever defeated, until defeat has been accepted as a reality - in the mind!
The great Scottish poet, Robert Burns was an illiterate country lad - poor and a drunkard. Beethoven was deaf and John Milton blind.
So develop an attitude of "never giving up" on your vision (grand).

STEP TWO: FAITH through affirmations (repetitions to the subconscious mind). Faith gives power to thought. Faith is indispensable to success.

Faith (strong) is the basis of Christianity. GIVE before you get. Gandhi had no money, no home, no suit of clothes; but he did HAVE POWER. Gandhi got it through FAITH and transplanted the idea into the 200 million people of India, leading them to independence from Britain..

Riches begin inside the man - in the form of thoughts and your faith removes your limitations. (Both poverty and riches are the offspring of faith).
You don't have to know HOW you are going to do it,to achieve your goals and fulfill your deepest aspirations and dreams;
but just KNOW that you one day you WILL...by simply taking one small step after another in faith and watch God, the Universe draw blessings towards you.

HAVE GREAT DESIRE AND THE MIND THEN FINDS A WAY. There are no limitations to the mind, except those we acknowledge. There is nothing which BELIEF, plus burning DESIRE cannot make real. Desire builds victory out of temporary defeat. These "God-given" qualities are free to everyone.

STEP 3: AUTOSUGGESTION: See yourself making money. Visualise it. You are master of your own destiny. Man may become the master of himself; because he has the power to influence his own subconscious mind. We have the power of choice in our actions (why we are "spiritual beings on an earthly existence" .

STEP 4: SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE: Professors of universities (like most writers and artists) are generally poor. They have lots of knowledge and teach it; but many don't USE it. However, knowledge is so easy to acquire (especially these days with the 'net'). Knowledge paves the road to riches - when you know which road to take.

Where to find it:

* your own experiences.
* universities.
* education
* libraries
and
* special training courses, night schools, etc.

Successful people never stop acquiring knowledge. SPECIALISE and develop a niche for yourself in your area of expertise.
You will be in demand, as specialists are sought after people and get rewarded accordingly.

STUDY.
It's never too late to stop learning. Market yourself effectively. If you don't want to sell a product, you can sell your services or your ideas at a very good price.
Knowledge is only potential power - you first have to USE it.

5. FOCUS on your most important goals, your priorities.

Creating positive affirmations is the first step in changing your self image and more forward on the road to success. Positive affirmations counter negative self talk by focusing you on your strengths and skills instead of your failings. Here's how to create positive affirmations:

1. Have a vision: Picture in your mind a positive outcome for your action. Your subconscious mind will
begin guiding you helping you make your vision a realty.

2. Begin your affirmation with "I" For example: "I am a great salesperson."

3. Use the present tense: Write your affirmation as if it is already accomplished.

4. Use short powerful sentences.

5. Believe in yourself. Make your affirmation believable.

7. Put these affirmations where you can see them and repeat them constantly.

Positive affirmations can only work well if they are applied carefully. This is one area where even the top self help gurus did not make it clear to most folks.

Just think about it, do you make these highly-overlooked mistakes with positive affirmations?

• Repeating your positive affirmations many times a day. (Just like a loud & noisy gong.)

• Writing an affirmation that you have difficulty believing in. (You can say what you want but if you do not believe it in your heart, you can forget about achieving it.)

• Using only conscious affirmations. (You forgot to feed your subconscious mind with some subliminal audio or brain wave audio or binaural audio.)

Here’s how you can fix these problems.

Repeating your positive affirmations is never good enough. First of all, write positive affirmations that you can believe. Short & simple messages work best.

As you read it, read it with emotions, close your eyes & visualize right after you read it.

Most audios that feed the subconscious mind will require stereo headphones for the effects to take place sooner. Earphones have much lesser effect.

What is easier than being in a relaxed position & simply listening to audio? Listening duration is not a problem, more than 10 – 15 minutes per session is fine. Listening frequency should be as often as daily to get the optimum effect.

In summary, affirm your subconscious as well as your conscious mind, do it frequency & see what you can achieve. You will be pleasantly surprised.

One of the most effective ways to develop a positive attitude is through the practice of positive affirmations. What are positive affirmations? Positive affirmations are positive statements that are written in the first person, in the present, and are specific. Positive affirmations are retraining your subconscious mind to look and think positively at something rather than approaching something with a negative attitude. In the last twenty years people have been buying self help books like the end of the world is coming. It makes you wonder what people did to survive all this time. It seems there is a guide out there for every possible situation, problem, or lifestyle. I know that sometimes we really need guidance with something, but I think the amount of self help books out there is just this side of crazy. Doesn’t anyone know how to do anything anymore without some stranger telling them what to do?

I’m being a bit hard on self help books, I know that, but there are really good ones like think and grow rich by napolean hill the greatest book ever written on self help and there are some that are just plain worthless. The funny part is that the ones that are useless are the ones that seem to be the best sellers. There are indeed hard things to in life, and if you need help that you can get from a book, I think it’s wonderful that you can get that help. However, there are some things that are common sense. You don’t need self help books to help you with these things, and you aren’t giving yourself enough of a chance to think for yourself.

I have bought a few self help books in my day, and most of them saddened me when I finished them. My gut reaction was that many bought the books like I did hoping for some insight, only to feel just like me when they were done. Though there are some who just don’t know the basics, most of us don’t need these books to tell us what we already know.

There are some exceptionally good self help books out there, however, that I would hope anyone would buy if they felt the need. If you are living with someone who is abusive, is an alcoholic, or if someone has a life altering illness, you should get self help books to help you deal with what is going on. There are some situations and problems that really aren’t something we just know. When it comes to special circumstances like that, you need all the help you can get, and self help books are certainly a good first step towards healing the problem or situation.

Every now and then some new concept or high tech tool comes along and tantalizes the minds of the multitudes. Depending on the magnitude of impact, often what effectively results vary from great strides and changes on personal levels to global scales. When it comes to the movie The Secret and its teachings about the law of attraction , there have been many people jumping on board as if it were a new and unheard of concept.



Positive affirmations and positive thinking and even the law of attraction, are not new to us. So why have so many people jumped on the ban wagon of manifestation this time around? One key factor might be the new way of explaining the scientific aspect behind the old idea.



Relating the power of though energy to the energy vibrations of everything around us is the skeptics smelling salts for many eye opening modes of thinking. Scientific discoveries, much like law, are fixed factors that stabilize and ground possibilities into sound beliefs. Thus getting the skeptic to understand the concept becomes the only challenge. Although we are continuously learning more, science has its undeniable concrete grounding effect.



Aside from the original movies teachings, another popular scientific discovery on this subject matter comes from a Quantum Physics discovery of how electrons change their behavior in reaction to being observed. Again, the science is proven and what remains is the understanding of it in relationships to manifesting.



In addition to the science of it all, titling the movie The Secret provoked curiosity as to when, what and where was the hidden concept in the first place. In response this may have been why it turned the heads of many Holy Doctrine devotees. Many found themselves seeking truth and proof of the science in scriptures in order that they might compare the potency of The Secrets message with Bible teachings. Some spiritual leaders sought to warn people to beware of false teachings and disprove it while others looked to enhance awareness for better understanding it.



Once knowing what the law of attraction is on the level of science, relating it to Biblical doctrine is easy. It is undeniable that thought effectualness is what Jesus was teaching when he said, when praying for something behave as if you have already received it. This was also what Jesus was trying to convey when he spoke to those he healed in saying, it was because of their belief that He was able to heal them. Another interesting interlocking of the law of attraction in relation to belief and biblical teaching is when Jesus told His disciples that if only they believed, they could tell a mountain to move itself into the ocean and it would. The amazing man Jesus who walked on water spoke of how our thinking was able to do much more than we imagined. This is confirmed again in His teaching that sinning in our thoughts is the same as sinning in the flesh. As a Master of masters, many religious scholars would not deny that Jesus's words are significant evidence that Bible teachings support the law of attraction concepts.



Another interesting perspective as to The Secrets depth of success should in deed be attributed to the makers of the film themselves. Surely they believed what they wanted to teach and utilized energies of visualizations, feelings, and thoughts for the movies success to reach the multitudes in understanding, applying, and changing the world for the better. Once the idea was conceived and great thinkers put into action, manifestation of a film that illuminated harmony and clear understanding was thus inevitability born.



In order to understand why The Secret has had such a powerful impact on the minds of so many who already knew the secret, one could say it is due to powerful impacts of new science, old religion and present day applications. Apparently this combination has shaken awake the giants of incredulity and shed the blankets of the dormant believers. We have only to wait and see what dreams may come of it all.

In the last twenty years people have been buying self help books like the end of the world is coming. It makes you wonder what people did to survive all this time. It seems there is a guide out there for every possible situation, problem, or lifestyle. I know that sometimes we really need guidance with something, but I think the amount of self help books out there is just this side of crazy. Doesn’t anyone know how to do anything anymore without some stranger telling them what to do?

I’m being a bit hard on self help books, I know that, but there are really good ones and there are some that are just plain worthless. The funny part is that the ones that are useless are the ones that seem to be the best sellers. There are indeed hard things to in life, and if you need help that you can get from a book, I think it’s wonderful that you can get that help. However, there are some things that are common sense. You don’t need self help books to help you with these things, and you aren’t giving yourself enough of a chance to think for yourself.

I have bought a few self help books in my day, and most of them saddened me when I finished them. I never found anything that I didn’t already know, and I wondered why so many people had to have what was contained within those self help books spelled out for them. I have known for a long time that I have some very negative habits that hold me back. In many ways, I am disorganized, easily distracted, and not very focused on my goals. Although I have tried to implement the power of positive thinking in my own life with some success, I still can't get over the feeling that something is missing. I contemplated life coaching, therapy, and various other strategies to help me reprogram myself into a more driven, successful individual, but I felt lost by the maze of different options available. There is just simply too much out there and it is impossible to evaluate all of it. How was I ever to separate the wheat from the chaff?

I finally found a book Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill that seemed to be universally agreed upon as a good source for learning how to build your own personal wealth. It was a volume called Think and Grow Rich, written by someone who had studied Carnegie, Rockefeller, and many of the other self-made barons of well. I knew that it wasn't a very current text, but nonetheless it seemed like the best place to start. When you can't figure out what to do, always go back to the source texts. The earlier the text, the more likely it is that it will have the information in its most pure, undiluted form.

As it turned out, Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill was only a starting point. It told me a lot about how various wealthy people thought, and how their thought processes contributed to their accumulation of wealth, but it wasn't enough by itself. You see, I had so many entrenched bad habits that learning how to think and grow rich seemed like too much of a task to do alone.

Nevertheless, I worked on it every day. Every time I would see myself falling into old, negative habits, I would chant some positives affirmations internally. I would make lists of all of my tasks, and I would not rest until they were all completed. I knew that, if I wanted to think and grow rich, I needed to be ruthless in my pursuit of success. Soon, it was my first priority. It hasn't been easy, but I think I have made some progress towards growing wealthy. It isn't something that will happen overnight, but I think if I put a few years into it, things will turn around for me.

Charlie 'Tremendous' Jones, the founder and CEO of Executive Books once remarked, "You are the same today as you're going to be in five years except for two things, the people you meet and the books you read." May I also add the tapes/CD you listened to and the magazine/journals you read are also very important.

To me, reading is a way of life and one of the things I can spend any money on is buying books. I started the hobby in 1982 by buying three books of the late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo namely ‘Voice of Reason’, ‘Voice of Courage’, and ‘Voice of Wisdom’. I remembered the book I read on my 21st birthday was ‘Think & Grow Rich’ by Napoleon Hill, and since then I have not looked back.

On September 5, 2004 after delivering an icebreaker speech at the Speakers of Croydon Toastmasters, Joe De Souza, one of my mentors, asked me a question "what books do you recommend to read?" As if that was not enough, another man came to me and said he has been reading my articles for the past 5 years that he wants me to write about the books that have made the most impact on my life.

Do you want to achieve your most important goals in 2004? In my opinion it gets down to two simple words, "easy" and "neglect".

People often ask me how I became successful at the early age of 31, while many of the people I knew did not. The answer is simple: During that 6-year period of time (age 25 to 31), the things I found to be easy to do, they found to be easy not to do. I found it easy to set the goals that could change my life. They found it easy not to. I found it easy to read the books that could affect my thinking and my ideas. They found that easy not to. I found it easy to attend the classes and the seminars, and to get around other successful people. They said it probably really wouldn't matter.

If I had to sum it up, I would say what I found to be easy to do, they found to be easy not to do. Six years later, I'm a millionaire and they are all still blaming the economy, the government, and company policies, yet they neglected to do the basic, easy things.

In fact, the primary reason most people are not doing as well as they could and should, can be summed up in a single word: neglect.

It is not the lack of money - banks are full of money. It is not the lack of opportunity - America, and much of the free World, continues to offer the most unprecedented and abundant opportunities in the last six thousand years of recorded history. It is not the lack of books – libraries are full of books - and they are free! It is not the schools - the classrooms are full of good teachers. We have plenty of ministers, leaders, counselors and advisors.

Everything we would ever need to become rich and powerful and sophisticated is within our reach. The major reason that so few take advantage of all that we have is simply neglect.

Neglect is like an infection. Left unchecked it will spread throughout our entire system of disciplines and eventually lead to a complete breakdown of a potentially joy-filled and prosperous human life.

Not doing the things we know we should do causes us to feel guilty and guilt leads to an erosion of self-confidence. As our self-confidence diminishes, so does the level of our activity. And as our activity diminishes, our results inevitably decline. And as our results suffer, our attitude begins to weaken. And as our attitude begins the slow shift from positive to negative, our self-confidence diminishes even more... and on and on it goes.

So my suggestion is that when giving the choice of "easy to" and "easy not to" that you do not neglect to do the simple, basic, "easy"; but potentially life-changing activities and disciplines.
