Still in its beta version, it lets anyone chin-wagging on the iPhone switch from GSM to Wi-Fi instantly and automatically during a call in order to save cash money in chat minutes. You'll obviously need to be in a Wi-Fi zone for said switch to be available, but other than that, that's it. Developed across the pond, it's an American application but can be used here simply by registering on the site as an iCall Pro user once you've downloaded the iCall Basic version. It's also completely free to use and install, which immediately makes it great in our book. The Samsung Soul is the first mobile phone review I've done in a while, but I felt it deserved more coverage as it's an intriguing mobile phone. Not only does it look stunning (which is a nice new trend that Samsung have managed to keep up throughout their entire Ultra range of mobile phones, of which the Soul is set to be the last), but it comes with some cracking features as well. The Samsung Soul is the flagship phone for Samsung for 2008, so you'd expect it to be feature-rich, but feature-rich and good looking? That takes some doing! The Zine will be the first phone released since Motorola split itself in two in an attempt to stop the company's mobile phone division slipping even further into the red. More.. ![]() Meanwhile, according to the latest figures from market research expert GfK, high-end phones are making up an increasingly small part of prepay handset sales. Despite the fact that operators say they are targeting the high-end market, they have also been paying heavy prepay subsidies. Two thirds of all prepay phones sold in February cost less than £50; one year ago, it was less than half. As a result, the value of prepay sales has fallen. In November last year the value of all prepay phones sold was 14% less than in the same month in 2006, despite an increase of 26.6% in the number of phones sold. One GfK analyst said: ‘With contract sales slowing down, operators are focusing their energies on the prepay market, and the increased competition is manifesting itself in falling prices.’ Orange, for example, has been selling half-price mobile phones for a few months. The falling prices culminated recently in Carphone Warehouse’s £2.95 Sony Ericsson J110i offer. Unsurprisingly, the low price boosted sales of the J110i, which has featured in the top 20 of Mobile’s prepay handsets chart for the past few weeks. More.. |
