This question came up regarding Obama in the early stages of his campaign and there seems no doubt that he is. The question has also been raised whether McCain (while clearly a citizen), qualifies as a 'natural born' citizen. This flared up in 2000 and was largely ignored but is surfacing again.

In the most detailed examination yet of Senator John McCain’s eligibility to be president, a law professor at the University of Arizona has concluded that neither Mr. McCain’s birth in 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone nor the fact that his parents were American citizens is enough to satisfy the constitutional requirement that the president must be a “natural-born citizen.”

The analysis, by Prof. Gabriel J. Chin, focused on a 1937 law that has been largely overlooked in the debate over Mr. McCain’s eligibility to be president. The law conferred citizenship on children of American parents born in the Canal Zone after 1904, and it made John McCain a citizen just before his first birthday. But the law came too late, Professor Chin argued, to make Mr. McCain a natural-born citizen.

It would be a travesty if he were denied the opportunity - and
In April, the Senate approved a nonbinding resolution declaring that Mr. McCain is eligible to be president. Its sponsors said the nation’s founders would have never intended to deny the presidency to the offspring of military personnel stationed out of the country.

Unfortunately a Senate resolution is inadequate. A court case is pending but it will be interesting if this ever gets officially decided by a competent court - he might well lose.

Let's call this "Image of the day" even though I'm sure it's a month or so old.

This is a provocative article on area 51. Apparently the place has been shut down and boarded up. Moved to White Sands New Mexico, and a launch facility in Utah. Stunning if true, and somewhat likely if indeed the new changes of the NASA program are in accordance with it. If I'm reading the article right, they suggest the main aircraft is the X-33 a Space Shuttle replacement capable of being anywhere in the world in under 40 minutes. If that's true, is Nasa's return to rockets just a facade?

I'm looking over a test document for a web app where I'm working. It's just a regular Java system, the sort you encounter at a bank or airline. I start looking through the first test case, and I encounter the acronym "HUI." I wonder... is this a typo where the "G" in "GUI" (graphical user interface) was mistyped with the letter right next to it? The context where I see this thing seems to support that guess.

So I flip to the first page of the document... and there it is:

HUI - Human User Interface

WTF? Or perhaps I should update this to QTF??

Everyone in the programming world has used GUI for years. What the heck is wrong with it? It DESCRIBES what you are concerned with -- an interface that the USER uses... and it's GRAPHICAL. HUMAN USER is redundant. It means nothing... it could be graphical, or physical. Who can tell? And how many non-Humans would use it?

Bloody idiots who want to be different without good reason. Why do I have to put up with thoughtless twits like this!?

Anyone know a place in Greensboro you can get fresh cut fries? I've been to Spudshack in Old Sacramento where they do nothing BUT fries (in every variation you could imagine and some you wouldn't want to), but we have nothing like that around these parts. Any ideas? Someone keeps bugging me to find something.

In a small town in Louisiana, a man was arrested for cocaine possession, put in handcuffs and tasered NINE times.

A few items from the story that I found of interest:

First, the company that makes these things says that "multiple Tasings do not affect a person." I wonder if they've done research to back that one up?

Second, the story says that of the 14 recorded police taser incidents in this little town, TEN of them were associated with the officer in this one. Sounds like someone in management wasn't paying attention.

Third, it says that the 7th stot from this taser-happy creep was one to the chest, as they were taking this poor guy out of the police car. That's probably the one that killed him.

What the hell is wrong with these people? Putting a 50,000 volt shock right to the CHEST of a handcuffed man...?

"But the company manual says that it doesn't HURT anyone!" Geez, people!!
