Hi, I'm Chris Thomson. I'm a young blogger, podcaster, and Twitterholic. Thu, 24 Apr 2008 08:56:51 +0200 This is a well thought out plan, something that might have kept me on delicious before I became frustrated delicious's lack of simple commands/organization.
I personally use instapaper for all my todos nowadays but keeping everything in one place is certainly an advantage.
Tue, 22 Apr 2008 15:06:50 +0200 I do this with my bookmarks all the time, except without the @. It's a good organization idea. Of course, all my bookmarks have been sent to private, so you'd never know I ever had any of these :P
I've used del.icio.us for years... and it's really great, I wouldn't understand why anyone wouldn't like it.
Tue, 22 Apr 2008 00:54:18 +0200 Chris,
If Facebook Chat integrates with AIM, or is an option with iChat, this will be huge! I will also be logged in all the time then :)
Lets see how I use it... and then I will blog about it. Thanks!
Tue, 22 Apr 2008 00:03:07 +0200 Alexis: Ha, yeah, Reddit is always refreshing to see pop up in my RSS reader. They've got some really odd stuff. :P By the way, just subscribed to your blog. :)
Mon, 21 Apr 2008 22:53:38 +0200 @rmaspero: Yep. I remember hearing that Facebook's goal is to be one-stop for all social activity (I think Mark said that at f8). They're certainly helping that goal out with chat.
@Daniel Brusilovsky: Yeah, I agree. It'll keep users on Facebook for longer. Also note, Facebook made sure to put the tabs on the right, as opposed to the left (Windows users are used to see windows minimized to the left). They really want to make sure those ads don't get covered up! I think Facebook Chat will have a much better chance when/if it gets integrated with Jabber, or a major IM network. When that happens, I know I'll be logged into Facebook Chat all the time.
@Andrew: Wow, congrats on going without any IM clients. I'm actually trying to get rid of iChat completely, but I just can't live without audio chats. I could do without text chats, though.
@Matthew Daniels: Ah, I completely forgot about that! Good point, that'll sure get some non-tech savvy people (like my classmates) to move away from MSN/Windows Live messenger. How could I forget that... Heh. Thanks for reminding me.
Mon, 21 Apr 2008 22:46:31 +0200 It's cool because it takes away all the adding hassle
Mon, 21 Apr 2008 15:24:44 +0200 I have not gotten access to Facebook chat yet. I currently don't use any IM clients because I found them to be major time sinks. I think I'd use Facebook chat if I could select who could and couldn't chat with me. Until then I think I'll be logged off.
Mon, 21 Apr 2008 08:30:24 +0200 Chris,
First of all, great post like always. Now lets get into Facebook. Personally, I think this is a good idea for two reasons:
1. More Time: Users will now spend more time on Facebook. Lets say Leo Laporte is your contact, and you don't have his IM... he logs into Facebook, and he is online on Facebook chat unless he makes himself online.
2. Simple: The interface is simple, and gets to the point. Chat with fellow Facebookers.
I think this is a good idea, but like you said, this will not dominate AIM and Google Talk, and I will keep on using their services, but when I log into Facebook, I will use Facebook chat.
Thanks,
Daniel Brusilovsky

Mon, 21 Apr 2008 08:19:20 +0200 Now I might spend more time on facebook if I can chat to people on it.
Mon, 21 Apr 2008 07:55:06 +0200 Glad to see reddit is one of your top online content sources. As the diversity of user-created reddit continues to grow, we're excited to see what kind of new distractions will start keeping our productivity down ;)
Sun, 20 Apr 2008 18:05:26 +0200 Alex Palma: I can see Digg's traffic lower a little over the next few months (or stay the same because of lots of quitters, and lots of new users might even out the difference). In fact, it has already gone down the tiniest bit, according to Compete.
rmaspero: I agree about the big sites, they are full of a lot of crap. I only subscribe to a few big sites like TUAW, MacRumors and Gizmodo - all the rest just repeat the same news. I also love subscribing to small blogs. Probably half of my RSS feeds happen to be small, independent bloggers.
Jeffro2pt0: Ah, I completely forgot to add in friend referrals. That's definitely an important source.
Colin Devroe: No problem. I think everything you guys are doing is what every video site should do - make it easy to find good content, have some features that set you apart from other sites (like the nifty player), and with your API. I'm excited to see what's next for Viddler. :)
Matthew Daniels: YouTube banned your IP? I won't even ask what type of videos you were uploading...
Sun, 20 Apr 2008 17:19:12 +0200 Great post! but I'm really not to sure about YouTube and Digg heck Youtube baned my IP so i can't upload videos.
Sun, 20 Apr 2008 17:18:36 +0200 Thanks for including Viddler Chris!
Sun, 20 Apr 2008 13:08:55 +0200 Interesting list their Chris. I use Twitter as a source of content but I rely heavily on RSS feeds and just common sharing between people I know. Friend referrals so to speak.
Sun, 20 Apr 2008 12:32:14 +0200 For all my content it comes mostly from small bloggers rss feeds and podcasts, I find that big sites just seem to have so much crap on them.
Sun, 20 Apr 2008 08:42:09 +0200 Nice post bud, I am almost about to jump on your boat when it comes to Digg, it seems unless you know a ton of people who will digg it for you, you ain't going anywhere.
Reddit is a quick and simple news page to get your latest news from. Delicious and Reddit are my faves.
Talk to you later.
Alex
Fri, 18 Apr 2008 02:18:56 +0200 Daniel -- At least you're allowed to bring a laptop to school. Our entire school board has this weird setup: Crappy Dell's (128-256MB of RAM, CRT monitors), and the web goes through a VPN. Also, they blocked the Task Manager and cmd. And the worst part is, we have to use Internet Explorer 6. It sucks! :(
Fri, 18 Apr 2008 02:03:15 +0200 Also, I am very dependent on email and Twitter. I constantly check email and twitter at school, with my Nokia N95 and school PC's.
Just another little tidbit :)
Fri, 18 Apr 2008 01:59:20 +0200 Chris -- I am amazed what happened. Here is the thing with me. I don't get to bring my laptop to my school for one main reason - there is no WiFi! Our school is dependent on really slow wired internet. When I do bring my PowerBook G4 or MacBook, its for word processing.
I am curious to see if I can pull this off like you did :P
Thanks,
Daniel Brusilovsky

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 02:22:18 +0200 @Chris: Being on vacation in a country I've never been to before (England) helped. Although, that was only 2 of the 2.5 :p
