Who Mia Wasikowska, you ask? Well, we're glad you did. She's an up and coming 18-year-old Australian actress who has yet to appear in anything big, but will be seen in Defiance, Ed Zwick's war drama starring Daniel Craig, and as a young Amelia Earhart fan in Amelia, Mira Nair's take on the life of the female pilot, which stars Hilary Swank as Amelia. There seems to be an understanding online that Burton's Alice In Wonderland will be almost exclusively motion capture, a la Beowulf. But everything we've been hearing suggests otherwise, that the movie will feature mainly live-action, with sets and everything, but with performance capture elements for some characters. That would make sense, given the number of speaking parts – The Cheshire Cat, the rabbit – that can't be played by live-action actors. There has been no indication of who might direct or star, but the new production will use the screenplay written by Richard O'Brien and Jim Sharman, who directed the original. Making this film seems a curious choice. Rocky Horror couldn't be much more 1970s if it were wearing a safari suit and watching Charlie's Angels. What with Mamma Mia! hoovering up cash like there's no tomorrow (even keeping adorable little Wall-E off the top of the UK box office, the meanie) and the High School Musical franchise boldly going where only cinema releases have gone before, it should not be any surprise that New Line want to sequelise their delightful 2007 hit Hairspray. But somehow, it still comes as a shock. The original was about chubby teen Tracy Turnblad and her bid to become a featured dancer on a TV show in 60s Baltimore - and incidentally, to desegregate TV while she's about it. The 2007 film was a musical based on the 2002 Broadway show, based in turn on the 1988 John Waters film (still following?), which starred Ricki Lake before she hosted a chat show and Divine. The 2007 film grossed more than $200 million worldwide, and the show is still going strong, hence the scramble for a sequel. This new film will be based on a treatment that Waters is writing, which will then be music-ified by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who wrote the 2002 musical, with a screenwriter to be confirmed. And they're planning a 2010 release, which in film terms means that they're going to have to get their skates on (NOTE: We don't mean that literally. Please don't do a version on rollerskates. One Xanadu is enough). What's more, none of the star-studded cast of the film have signed on for a sequel (what with no-one having thought there was any chance of that, we imagine) so negotiations would need to start soon if John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Queen Latifah, James Marsden, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, Allison Janney, Elijah Kelley and star Nikki Blonsky are all to be reunited. Frankly, we're big fans of both the 1988 movie and the 2007 musical - yes, even with the scariness of John Travolta in a dress taken into account - but we remain to be convinced that this can ever be more than a cash-in. A trailer has been released for the online game DC Universe Online. It's a little bit like World of Warcraft, except with Batman and Superman in place of elves and bogwoppits, or whatever you get in WOW (James is the only one in the office who plays it, and he's not here to explain the details). Check out the trailer at Gamespot here. The game, released on PC and PS3 later this year, lets you control a DC character in a universe full of superheroes. This game could devour many, many lives.  The FBI stole The Princess Diaries! According to Rush & Mallory of the NY Daily News, the FBI has seized Anne Hathaway’s diaries during another raid on ex Raffaello Follieri’s pad. Other items taken during the raid include an antique Bible, personal documents, watches, a Tiffany clock, and personal photos of the couple. The 25-year-old actress is also said to have changed her phone numbers and cut off all ties to her ex. “Raffaello is doing very badly,” says a friend who revealed that Follieri was hospitalized for an anxiety attack the day he was locked up. “He says people are abusing him. The 27-year-old Columbia University graduate has kept a fairly low profile recently with the exception of a Prince concert in London last year. Prince gave her a mic and she sang Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funky Music” in front of over 20,000! Ms. Stiles is involved with three upcoming projects, Gospel Hill, The Bell Jar and Cry of the Owl. She was reportedly seen at the Sylvia Plath Symposium at Smith College this past April, possibly doing research for her role in The Bell Jar.  UNICEF Ambassador Clay Aiken recently visited the East African countries of Somalia and Kenya, where UNICEF provides children with health care, education, nutrition, clean water and sanitation. The 29-year-old American Idol alum has written a series of blogs about his experience in the field. Here’s a snippet of one of Clay’s blog posts: “Getting children back to school is vital for their protection, and helps build a sense of normalcy in their lives. The re-establishment of schools in the most difficult circumstances is a testament to the commitment of UNICEF and to Kenyans. Many displaced parents told UNICEF that getting their children back to school was their top priority. “Every child has the right to an education. Education transforms lives and breaks the cycle of poverty that so many children are caught in. And an educated child will make sure his or her own children receive an education too.  You haven’t heard the last of the Backstreet Boys! AJ McLean, 30, Howie Dorough, 34, Nick Carter, 28, and Brian Littrell, 33, have already started working on its follow-up to last year’s “Unbreakable,” reports Billboard. BSB already recorded some new material for their six studio album while on tour in Europe. But the boys have plans to hit the studio again after its tour of North America, which starts Tuesday in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and wraps on Sept. 6 in Seattle. “We’re looking at getting back into the studio quite quickly,” says Dorough, adding that BSB may work again with Swedish producer/writer Max Martin, who worked with the group on “I Want it That Way,” “Shape of My Heart,” “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)”. “We want to hopefully have something ready to go or at least be heavily into it by the end of the year and have something out towards the beginning of next year,” Dorough says.  Harry Potter star Rupert Grint shows a new gritty side to his acting range in the new UK drama, Cherry Bomb. The Sun reports the 19-year-old British actor is currently in Belfast still filming the rest of the film for BBC. Cherry Bomb follows teenagers Malachy (Grint), Luke (Robert Sheehan) and Michelle (Kimberley Nixon) as they embark on a wild weekend of drink, drugs, shop-lifting and stealing cars. But what starts out as a game turns deadly serious when the three discover that they can’t get off the wild ride they’ve set in motion.  Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt turned to fertility treatments to conceive twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, reports Us Weekly. “They conceived through in vitro fertilization,” a source tells the mag. “They both desperately wanted more babies soon.” Apparently the chance of having fraternal twins at Angelina’s age (33) naturally is under 1 percent; with in vitro, the chances are 25 percent. Continues the source, “[Angie did it so] she wouldn’t have to deal with the stress of trying to get pregnant.  Chris Brown is teaming up with Survivor and Apprentice producer Mark Burnett to create a new dance competition series with an emphasis on hip-hop/street dance. The R&B star will pit contestants against one another in impromptu dance-offs in this untitled project, with Brown choosing the winner of each round. Burnett is developing the show as an hourlong performance series that will have an elimination episode as well, reports Variety. “Dancing is more than just a way of moving, it’s a different expression of music,” Chris said. “That’s what I want to focus on with this show.” “Chris Brown really is a superstar, and someone who lives and breathes music and dance — so his credibility is massive in this arena,” said Burnett, who tapped Brown to open this year’s MTV Movie Awards (where he performed a dance-off with host Mike Myers). “It’s his show; he’s headlining it.
