OVERVIEW: PlanetOut Inc. is seeking a Release Manager to help build the next generation social networking application. The Release Manager will be responsible for the planning and smooth deployment of releases to the PlanetOut production environment. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, design, and implement build process, configure and test processes for software components of Release Management for both QA and Production environments. Supervise and mentor team of build and release engineers on a day-to-day basis. Drive process improvements throughout the entire project cycle and release process, encouraging standardization, consistency, repeatability, and predictability. Identify and exploit opportunities for automation, simplification, and smart use of tools. Develop, implement and maintain tools to automate the process for several Java-based, high-volume, consumer-oriented websites, specifically in the areas of: Source code management Build and deployment Continuous integration/automated test execution Environment maintenance and audit IDEAL CANDIDATE: Release management experience in a complex, commercial, web-based environment. Strong project management skills and excellent interpersonal skills, along with a demonstrated ability to balance priorities and simultaneous projects. Experience and success managing diverse groups and individuals. Experience managing multiple environments to support parallel development and test efforts. Proficient UNIX user, preferably Solaris. Familiar with scripting languages such as sh, perl, tcl. Experience with Java application servers (e.g. Tomcat, Jetty, BEA WebLogic) Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to interact well with both technical and non-technical personnel.
