My two brothers, my mom, and I visited a local convenience store where we met a beautiful auburn-colored dog when I was turning 12. She looked to be a lab and shepherd mix, who was rather large with big beautiful brown eyes. "Unfortunately, the recent tragic death of toddler, by an illegally kept exotic pet snake has sparked state officials into creating a new bill that will ban the import or trade of several types of pet snake. The recent discovery of several vicious African Rock pythons living in the Florida Everglades has raised new concerns on how to fight this ever-growing nightmare. According to Flesher (2009), state officials should be focusing on eliminating the pythons that have been found growing in the wild, instead penalizing the snake owners or the exotic snake dealer. However, state officials believe that this new federal ban may help stop this nightmare from moving to other states or expanding their grip on the southern parts of the sunshine state." (Read more)

A new threat has scientists worried, as a new species python has been found living in the Florida Everglades. The "African Rock Python" is considered to be meaner and more aggressive than its cousin, which is known as the Burmese Python. Florida officials scramble to save the natural habitat from the Burmese Python and the Boa Constrictors, but now they must face a new threat to the native wild life. According Reid (2009), only time will tell how many of these giant snakes actually exist in South Florida and its surrounding areas. However, scientists are arguing that there may be some hybrid offspring from the two species of python, which can add to the exotic snake nightmare facing the wildlife that calls the swamp their home. Many public officials in Florida sprung into action and declared war against an exotic species that is invading the Florida Everglades. Currently, there is a new task force which was setup to deal with this growing problem that residents are facing. According to
Austin (2009), the Burmese Python is now being hunted and killed by the Python Patrol. New laws are aimed at slowing the "population explosion", while making snake owners "register their exotic pet" and follow more "stricter guidelines"....(Read More)

Let's do the impossible together!

Saturday- Today Syd looks good unfortunately she came back with another positive blood culture from the 1st which could explain the fevers still persisting even though the counts are coming back up. She might not be neutropenic today. If that is the case then they will stop the Gent & the Ambisome thank goodness, but because she had the pos blood culture, we have to keep the Vanco & meripenum just to be safe. So bottom line we are not going anywhere yet.

If she stops spiking temps and no more cultures now that her vanco is therapeutic maybe we will be able to go home in a couple of days. This pretty much stinks because everyday we are here now her counts are going up and it is cutting into our home time. SYd really needs some home time to get her strength mentally & physically & from a nutrition standpoint. Although they will not wait to long before the next cycle of chemo, the higher the counts go the more of a chance the leukemic cells are replicating and we don't want to give them that chance. But is good her counts came back just as planned ( almost clockwork day 28 just as her oncologist said)

Yesterday they ended up doing a scan of her sinuses, chest abdomen & pelvis just for make sure there was no other reason for fevers and it was negative. Syd was a champ. She swallowed the contrast and it all worked out. I wasn't really excited about her having this test but I was getting worried that she was still having fevers without a source.
