Twiggy Frostbite took shape in the spring of 2006 inspired by the London Underground, and evolved to something unique. The untamed tones and frosty noise of the northern Swedish coast meet the acoustics of the tube and create a dreamlike atmosphere.

Twiggy Frostbite has its roots in Gävle and shares members with the Deer Tracks and Grizzly Twister. The debut album “Through Fire” will arrive in the winter of 2009 and is a melodic journey from doldrums to hurricane.

Rebecca Martin's 'The Growing Season' reflects on love, war and civic responsibilities in a time of crisis. Inspired by Rebecca's roles as a mother and community organizer, 'The Growing Season' offers sophisticated songs of peace and growth for a changing America.

Martin artfully addresses the war in Iraq with "Make the Days Run Fast," a song for her younger brother; a pediatric neurosurgeon who suffered a gunshot wound in his leg while in Iraq.

The birth of her son Charlie James, now three, motivated Martin to take an active role as a community organizer in Kingston, NY, building a neighborhood civic group now known as Kingston Citizens.

Rebecca Martin explains: "My work in music and the community are one in the same, they are both a public service requiring ongoing care and a clear intention. Both are truth-seeking tasks. Both can transform the way people think and act in the world."

Together, these influences are woven into the seamless narrative of 'The Growing Season,' which incorporates diverging routes to wisdom and fulfillment to create a very personal album that is both meaningful and tuneful.

The Radiators were born during a transitional decade in the history of New Orleans music. The Meters, the premier funk band, had disbanded, the Neville Brothers formed, and in 1980 Professor Longhair, the father of New Orleans R&B and spiritual embodiment of Crescent City Soul had passed on. This decade would prove to be the fertile period of development when a unique blend of rhythms and sounds came together and "Fish Head" music was born. The Radiators, an extremely eclectic group of musicians, rely on a myriad of musical influences to create their own sound-"Fish Head Music". At a Radiators show it is not uncommon to hear blues, R&B, jazz, country, Zydeco, soul, swing, and even gospel filtering through their original New Orleans Rock N' Roll.

This group could only come from New Orleans. Since its earliest settlement, the city developed a rich musical heritage that gave birth to 20th century American music. Musicians from this region were the first to incorporate African rhythms with Western melody. Beginning with culture-blending jam sessions at Congo Square, this musical tableau unfurled in the hands of artists such as JellyRoll Morton, Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, Allen Toussaint, Earl King, The Meters, Dr. John and others too numerous to mention. These acts provided great inspiration for the Radiators.

During their early years, the band members were able to watch and even play live with many of these local heroes. They combined these influences with the rising spirit of sixties rock and R&B to form a new, rhythm-intensive blend of rock and roll. After all, if you're going to the party, you might as well bring something new, right?

The Radiators are in their 26th year of providing some of the most intense live performances (over 3600 thus far!) of any band on the road today. Their intuitive grasp of each other's moves, coupled with a repertoire of nearly 1300 songs provides a basis for a fresh and spontaneous approach to their music.

The band formed in January 1978 in Keyboardist Ed Volker's garage. Ed, Frank Bua, and Camille Baudoin were performing in one band together, with Dave Malone and Reggie Scanlan in another. "Ed invited us to come over to his house and jam; Dave and I figured we'd have a few beers together and play a couple of blues tunes," remembers Scanlan, "instead, we jammed for five hours straight, then all quit our old bands the next day."

Since that legendary first jam session, the Radiators have developed into a strong national act, a result of their marathon length live shows and a relentless touring schedule. The Radiators quickly became one of New Orleans' hottest musical acts, then rose to national prominence as their fans spread the word across the country. In New York City, for example, crowds that started with transplanted Tulane University graduates dancing at the Lone Star Cafe steadily grew. This story has been echoed by similar ground swells rippling across the country.

Their reputation has been further augmented by a sizable body of recorded work-eleven albums released on labels including Epic/C.B.S. and Croaker Records. Aside from backing up such New Orleans legends as Dr. John, Professor Longhair and Earl King, the Radiators have appeared with the Allman Brothers, Little Feat, B.B. King, Robert Cray, The Band, Los Lobos and Taj Mahal to name a few. They are also a featured mainstay of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival every year, owning the coveted closing spot on one of the main stages and playing to an audience approaching 30,000.

The Radiators' instinctive musicianship catalyzes the festive spirit of their shows. Set list... who's following it? This band's legacy rests not only on their extensive repertoire, but also on an uncanny ability to choose the proper song for any given moment. This synergistic pas des deux between artists and audience makes the crowd a part of the music. This intuitive interaction is the hard earned result of 25+ years of live performances.

The Radiators are a true rock n' roll band, loyal to the concept of ensemble playing. They rely solely on the spirit of the music and lyrics (coupled with the band members' natural rapport) to create "the show". It is this musical marriage that has created the Radiators legend and secured the fantastic loyalty of fans known as "fish-heads". Some describe a Rads show as a contest between the band and the audience to see who can have the most fun (and everyone WINS!). Their music is a living & breathing entity, and one never knows what will happen at a Radiators show... not even the Rads!

From JoshCharles.com:
Hey everybody …. I’m a piano player. Write songs. Sing and play some guitar. And been very fortunate to have played with some great musicians from Wynton Marsalis and Tony Bennett to Johnny Adams. Since I was a kid, I’ve played the gamut—the worst dive bars with piano keys so jagged that I cut up my fingers every night, some amazing concert halls, outdoor festivals, great clubs and even floating theaters at sea. My mentor/teacher and friend is Dr. John and I can say that I am blessed to have had the opportunity to learn from a master.

As far as my music goes, I’m just trying to write songs that move people and have something to say. Thankfully, I’ve been lucky to find a lyricist named Ric Steel-my Bernie Taupin-who brings out the heart and soul of the human spirit with his words. If my music makes you feel sad, joyous, or anything else after hearing it, then I guess I’ve done my job. When I get onstage to perform, well that’s the only place in the world I want to be at that time. I will give you everything I have and more because that is what I do—play like it’s the last show I’ll ever do.

I grew up in Kansas City and started playing in blues clubs when I was a teenager. New York City (Brooklyn) is my home right now even though I”m more of a “wandering nomad” type and I feel a close kinship to New Orleans. It’s hard to put into words what that city means to me, but having been there right up until Hurricane Katrina and spent a lot of time there since, I can say that it’s one of the most important and influential places in my life as an artist.

I just released my debut Josh Charles EP which features members of Dr. John’s band, my touring band, and was recorded in New Orleans and New York. My co-producer, Steve Jabas and I spent months and countless hours working on the EP and worked with one of the best mixers around now—Ken Lewis. So many great people and amazing musicians were involved and I am so grateful to have been able to work with each and every one of them.

I hope you dig the music and come out to the shows. Come say hi and feel free to email me here. I’ll get back to you as much as I can. Other than that, all I can say is “let the music play”.

Cole Porter once asked, “What Is This Thing Called Love,” and it's a question that many of our greatest artists have grappled with ever since - creating some of America's most enduring and timeless music in the process. Now, it's Sylvia Bennett's turn. On her new album, Songs From The Heart featuring the Three Tenors - Boots Randolph, Ed Calle and Kirk Whalum, the smooth jazz and pop vocalist sings of the vicissitudes of love with a warmth, clarity and spirit that is enveloping and tender, showcasing the depth of her skill, talent and experience.

The Italian born and American raised Bennett is a singer's singer, having sung on TV, in community theater, club dates, conventions and even the inaugurations of presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush. Sylvia has opened for artists as diverse as Bob Hope, Phyllis Diller, Jackie Mason, Dizzy Gillespie, and Barry Gibb.

Her big break came in the 1980's, when legendary vibraphonist (and National Arts Award Winner) Lionel Hampton took Sylvia under his wing and made her the first female singer to record with him in thirty years. She recounts, “Lionel validated me as a performer and inspired me to be the best singer I can be. He made me realize that the audience was the most important thing and that all I needed to do was to sing from the heart and be honest.” Sylvia worked with Hampton for ten years, touring and recording two albums together. The first, Sentimental Journey, was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1987. The second project, There Will Never Be Another You, was a CD/DVD tribute to “Hamp” from Sylvia, and she furthered the honor to her mentor with the show, “The Lady and the Legend,” premiering in Miami in 2007.

Songs From The Heart featuring the Three Tenors emerged in the wake of Sylvia's tribute to Hampton, when her producer, two-time Grammy nominee and two-time ASCAP Award winner, Hal Batt, suggested that she record timeless love songs and standards, backed by a small band to convey the desired intimacy. Sylvia was enamored of the idea immediately. “I'm a hopeless romantic,” she says unhesitatingly, “I think that love is what life is all about-wanting it, having it, losing it and having it again.” The songs, classics from the great American songbook, were chosen for how they related to the experience of love, making it a concept album, akin in spirit to Frank Sinatra's great concept albums of the mid-1950's.

The album really took off when Sylvia was joined on the recording by tenor saxophone legends, Boots Randolph, Ed Calle and Kirk Whalum. The tenors enhance the album's smoky and organic vibe, complementing Sylvia's silky smooth voice. “It was a thrill to have those incredible players on the album,” enthuses Sylvia. “The only song they played on together was "Since I Fell For You," and it was pure magic.” Producer Batt declares, “We captured a moment in time that won't happen again between three of the greatest tenor sax players in the world.”

Sylvia's exquisite taste shines in the selection and performance of the material. From “My Funny Valentine,” (“It sums up everything about love to me") to “They Can't Take That Away From Me,” (“Nothing and no one can take away the time you have with someone”) to "How Long Has This Been Going On," (“I first sang that song in junior high-but now I really know what that song is about”), Sylvia utilizes her phenomenal ability to get inside these classic songs and have them reveal emotional dimensions previously unfamiliar.

Sylvia is eager to perform these songs in her natural environment - in front of a live audience. “I'll be doing romance themed nights, performing the album as well as the material I did with Lionel Hampton,” she says. It's clear that she's immensely proud of Songs From The Heart featuring the Three Tenors and that she knows she touched on something. Sylvia concludes, “We live in such a technological world today that I think we forgot about touching people. I think we all need a hug, we need to be embraced - we're living in a troubled world. There's nothing better than romance and being with someone who can shelter you from those storms.”

She's humble, thoughtful, and not one for mindless chatter. She'd sooner talk about her favorite bands and songwriters, about football and films, than about herself. But put Amy Macdonald on stage with a guitar in her hands, let loose her rich, bell-clear voice on a brace of superb original songs-and the self-effacing 20-year-old with the pale skin and wide blue eyes is revealed as a compelling performer possessed of formidable musical gifts. Her Decca Universal debut album, This Is The Life, is equally impressive. On each of its eleven tracks, Amy's own acoustic guitar patterns form the foundation for the beautifully detailed arrangements created by producer Pete Wilkinson and mixed to perfection by Bob Clearmountain. The result is a seamless set of contemporary folk-flavored pop-rock with a warmly natural sound and free of hip-hop affectations. Amy's melodies are incredibly catchy-the quality that has made "Run," "This Is The Life," and "Mr. Rock & Roll" into international radio favorites-but her lyrics sometimes hint at a darker, edgier undercurrent. "Footballer's Wife" ponders the devaluation of celebrity, from James Dean and Marilyn Monroe to today's reality-show wanna-bes; "Poison Prince" is a sharp-eyed 'look at the high-wire act of Pete Doherty , one of Amy's earliest and most important musical inspirations. "Youth of Today" is a challenge to older generations, firm and clear-eyed without being self-righteous-Amy's version of "The Times They Are A-Changin'" or "My Generation." This Is The Life began moving up the British chart soon after its initial release in July 2007. The album reached Number One on January 13, 2008, knocking Radiohead's In Rainbows out of the top slot. To date, This Is The Life has sold more than 700,000 copies in the UK (double platinum) and over one million worldwide, making Amy Macdonald the biggest-selling female British artist to emerge last year. Thus far, her album has reached Number One in the UK, Switzerland, Denmark and the Netherlands and cracked the Top 20 in Germany, Ireland, Austria, Belgium and Greece. Back in the USA, the excitement has proven contagious. In April 2008, Amy arrived in the States for debut club appearances in Boston and New York. Her 4/28 performance at Great Scott in Boston prompted The Boston Globe to hail Amy Macdonald as "a 20-year-old lass with a guitar, a strong will, thick eyeliner, and a voice that snaps you to attention. We give her a year before she's headlining the Orpheum [Theater]."

Marykate O’Neil is back with her third solo release, mk-ULTRA, and the Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter has lost nothing of the perfect blend of sweetness and cynicism that marked 2006’s critically acclaimed 1-800-Bankrupt. Hailed by Filter as a “rare instance where everything simply clicks" and Rolling Stone as “deeply authentic and original,” Bankrupt cemented the standard of songwriting talent O’Neil is known for and delivers again with mk-ULTRA.
While studying at Boston University, O’Neil formed the band Piewackit, who came to be known around the Northeast for their retro-pop hook-laden confections and O’Neil’s angelic vocals. After gigs with acts such as Mary Lou Lord, Juliana Hatfield, and Elliott Smith, Piewackit put out Sockmonkee in 1997. Marykate went on to release a self-titled solo album in 2002, followed by 2006’s 1-800-Bankrupt.
Like Marykate O’Neil and 1-800-Bankrupt, mk-ULTRA was produced in a spirit of collaboration. “Most of the people who played on this record played also on the last two records as well,” says O’Neil. “I feel lucky to have all of my friends play on the record because music for me has always been about community…and in that spirit I always try to drag about everyone I know into my projects.” Fortunately, O’Neil seems to know no one but talented musicians. She shares producing credit with Jill Sobule and Roger Moutenot, and contributors include Mickey Grimm, and Ken Maiuri.
“The themes in mk-ULTRA are a bit of the morning after the party,” reveals O’Neill. “It’s a bit about the darker side of NYC downtown life...the moment in a relationship where you realize you can't save it....and the moment in time when you realize you can't save someone.” This EP includes two covers, one of Randy Newman’sLiving Without You’, and one of ‘Happy’, by her friends and collaborators Jill Sobule and Adam Schlesinger. “I recorded and picked the two covers I did because I thought they completed the story well,” explains O’Neil. “I recorded a song of one of my friends because I was thinking how lucky I was to be around all these talented people, and started thinking it would be fun to do covers of my friends songs... like how in the 60's everyone would be singing each others songs. So you would have Glenn Campbell singing a George Harrison song, and released at the same time. My friend Lianne Smith has started covering my song ‘The Sky is Falling’, and Matthew in Nada Surf has covered ‘Secret War’ in live shows. I think one night after a few glasses of wine we all decided we need to bring back this tradition!”
mk-ULTRA is coming out digitally on Nettwerk Records, and will be released in limited quantities on CD through O’Neil’s own collective project, 71 Recordings. A full-length album, Underground, will follow in February.

The Brilliant Mistakes formed in 1994 in New York City when singer-songwriter-keyboardist Alan Walker met songwriter-bassist Erik Philbrook met while they were both working in book publishing at Penguin USA. Walker, raised in New York City, and Philbrook, a transplant from Bangor, Maine, were two book lovers who also shared a yen for classic pop songwriting, and bonded over an appreciation of such artists as Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Nick Lowe, Joe Jackson, Squeeze and Crowded House. Joining the band was drummer Mickey Wood, who had played in Walker’s previous band, Club Iguana, as well as New York guitarist Andy Resnick. Taking their name from an Elvis Costello song, they recorded an EP, Lost Luggage, in Portland, Maine that same year and began playing the club circuit in Manhattan.

In 1999, The Brilliant Mistakes recorded their first album at Coyote Studios on North Sixth Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which was then a desolate strip of industrial warehouses. They released that album, All Hands & The Cook, on their independent label, Aunt Mimi’s Records, and received critical acclaim and considerable airplay on non-commercial and college radio stations around the country. The album brought them to the attention of some of New York City’s most discernible music lovers. As a result, they were featured on ASCAP Deems Taylor Award-winning DJ Vin Scelsa's cult radio show "Idiot's Delight" on WFUV-FM/NY and were also featured as part of the legendary New York club The Bottom Line's "Required Listening" series, hosted by WFUV’s Rita Houston. Performances at New York City’s Fez Club cemented the group’s reputation as a crowed-pleaser.

The band’s second album, Dumb Luck, was released in 2003. Produced by producer/bassist Lincoln Schleifer, who has worked with Levon Helm, Gov’t Mule’s Warren Haynes, Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen, Solomon Burke and Buddy and Julie Miller, the album was recorded over several months in Lincoln’s basement studio, affectionally dubbed "Lincoln’s Log Cabin," in the Irish Woodlawn section of the Bronx. The band was joined by some incredible guest musicians, including multi-instrumentalist Larry Campbell as well as percussionist extraordinaire Marc Quinones. In addition to bringing out the best of the band’s distinctive harmonies, piano-rock approach and the dynamic work of drummer Paul Mauceri, Schleifer expanded their musical palette to include everything from Hammond B3 organ, Wurlitzer and a Fender Rhodes to pedal steel guitar, banjo, timbales, horns, and a string quartet. The result is a rich tapestry of moods, both light and dark.

The band continued to work the Northeastern circuit and gained greater exposure performing throughout the country in clubs and on college campuses, including high-profile spots at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas and the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

In 2005 the band contributed a track, “Everyone,” to Lowe Profile: A Tribute to Nick Lowe.

In the fall of 2008, the band is set to release their third album, Distant Drumming. Produced by Lincoln Schleifer, the album marks a distinct evolution in the band’s sound. Incorporating more acoustic guitar, lush harmonies as well as a wide array of vintage keyboards, including Farfisa, Hammond B3 and Hammond Aurora Classic organs, upright piano, Wurlitzer electric piano, and a variety of percussion instruments, the album is more organic with greater emphasis on grooves, dynamics and textures. The album also features guests such as singer-songwriter Mike Viola, frontman for the Candy Butchers who is also one of the songwriters behind the hilarious musical comedy Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, as well as guitarist Larry Campbell and guitarist Marc Shulman .

Tony Lucca may not have been much taller than his dad's classic '73 Aston Martin acoustic when he learned to play the guitar as a very young boy. Since those youthful days of growing up near Detroit's legendary music foundations, he's been known throughout his career as a soulful, acoustic crooner; someone who would occasionally sit behind the piano to expertly play a ballad or pick up an electric guitar for a funkier sound when the vibe was right.

However, as Lucca set out to record his sixth studio album, 'Come Around Again' (available on iTunes), he made a decidedly conscious choice to become even more plugged in - both literally and figuratively. From the sassy single "Foxy Jane" to the introspective "Givin' It All Away," he uses music and lyrics to explore the various moods of rock.

Longtime listeners of Lucca's music will likely find this change an appropriate next step as the singer and songwriter seeks to expand his musical talents in his studio recordings. New fans could hear 'Come Around Again' as a fitting introduction to Lucca's 10+ years of professionally creating and self-producing his own albums and EPs.

In either case, he hasn't completely abandoned the folk-pop sound for which he is so widely known. Lucca says that '73 Aston Martin is "still part of the harem to this day."

Audiences will be more than satisfied with his collection of songs and guitars as he takes the road this fall.

of the highlights of his career. He has also performed for PGA golfer, John
Daly’s charity events.

Pat suffered a tragic loss in Fall 2006 when drummer Chris Williams died
suddenly and unexpectedly of heart failure at the age of 38. Williams had
been the Pat’s drummer from the beginning days of Pat McGee. The loss of
Chris lit a fire underneath Pat to continue on in full force.

With Amy Kuney, appearances are certainly deceiving. Sure, the singer/songwriter looks youthful, perhaps even younger than the early 20s bracket she occupies, but just wait until she sits down at a piano and starts singing. The onstage presence and authority she displays is impressive for an artist of any age, and that’s before you even notice her songwriting, which resounds with finely observed details and engaging left turns.

Perhaps this is because Kuney isn’t your typical young artist. She has nearly 20 years of musical experience, having begun piano lessons at age four. Between church performances and piano recitals, she’s been onstage for most of her life, to say nothing of 100 live dates in the past year. And her childhood spent partially in Honduras has given her life experience beyond that of most Americans.

In fact, if you ask Kuney, it was more life experience than she was expecting. At 17, she and a group of friends were kidnapped by rebels while on a Guatemala sightseeing trip. (Their captors, by the grace of a higher power, eventually let them go), but the experience, harrowing as it was, threw Kuney’s nascent songwriting into high gear.

“I built a studio in my basement using shower curtains and mattresses and I just put everything into my writing,” she recalls. “I wrote this song, ‘How The Wind Must Feel’, and sent a recording of it to a producer in Los Angeles named Peter Barker. That’s how it all started.”

Music supervisors have taken notice. Not only have Kuney’s songs landed on One Tree Hill and the daytime drama Passions, she also played a folk singer on a memorable episode of Gilmore Girls, an occurrence she modestly chalks up to “beginner’s luck.”

Now, as debut Bird’s Eye View is released, more will have the opportunity to know (and love) the talented songwriter that fellow artist Kate Voegele calls “an amazing lyricist” and compares to Fiona Apple and Sarah McLachlan and whose voice Ann Powers, of the Los Angeles Times, calls “especially lovely”.

Amy Kuney was born in Oklahoma and spent her early life in Tulsa, a middle child in a large family. It was an unremarkable suburban existence until her father decided, on the heels of Hurricane Mitch’s devastation, to move the family to Honduras to do missionary work. Amy was 13 at the time.

So exit suburban housing and trips to the mall, and enter a foreign culture via a cinder-block home, its courtyard surrounded by razor wire. At first, Kuney rebelled. “I had been very uncooperative about living in Honduras. And I very purposefully had not learned the language. I didn’t really embrace the culture. And even when I wanted to learn Spanish there was a subliminal block there and it just took forever.”

There was one thing, however, that Kuney got in Honduras that was largely unavailable in the U.S—silence. “It really jarred me,” she says. “I had to figure out how to entertain myself. At the very beginning we had no radio, no television and we didn’t know anybody there.” So Kuney spent even more time at the piano, and eventually learned the guitar. At the same time, she wrote short stories and poems before she penned her first song.

But before long she was filling up her notebooks and sending songs to L.A. producers she randomly found on the Internet. This was how she found Peter Barker, who can be thankful that his last name begins with a “B” since Kuney was calling alphabetically. Barker eventually signed her and his label is releasing her debut album, Bird’s Eye View, this fall.

Though she’s co-written with others in the past, all of the songs on Bird’s Eye View come straight from Amy Kuney’s notebook, voice and unique perspective. “I’m a bit of a control freak,” she admits. “I can’t put something out unless it’s something I can stand behind 100 percent.” And the album is all the better for being the direct result of Kuney’s life experiences, from the knowing exhortation that “there is life beyond the razor wire” in “Simple Things” to the intriguing situation of being “a third party at a table for two” in “Love Is Trippy.”

“I wouldn’t consider myself a songwriter necessarily; I really see myself more of a storyteller,” she says. “I’ll start by writing the story behind it before I actually turn any of it into a lyric.”

In terms of production, while the arrangements definitely serve the songs, Bird’s Eye View, produced by Scott Seiver and engineered by Barker, is the furthest thing possible from a stripped-down, coffeehouse-friendly singer/songwriter album. Such choices aren’t surprising once Kuney reveals her love for artists like Rufus Wainwright and Jon Brion, whose left-turns are legendary.

“I didn’t want this album to sound like any other,” Kuney asserts. “I didn’t want anyone say to that the production reminds them of someone else. I wanted it to stand on its own.”

Just one track, “Rocket Surgery”—with its sampled Enrico Caruso backing vocal, Dixieland horn section and wide-panned handclaps—is all the evidence a listener needs to realize the mission was accomplished and then some. But that doesn’t mean that the infectious hooks of these songs, led by Kuney’s forceful alto, would sound out of place on the airwaves.

“We tried to make it interesting but also easy to listen to,” Kuney observes. “And I think we found a good balance.”

And of course, it’s always easy to sound comfortable in the studio if you’re knocking ‘em dead onstage, and Kuney’s spent the past year doing just that, leaping just as enthusiastically on stage in front of three people as in front of 300, and enduring the inevitable trials.

“I stayed in this hotel in Spokane and there was blood on the shower curtain, then at 3 a.m. someone was jumping against my door, trying to get it open,” she recalls. “Then in Nashville I got to watch an actual drug bust from my room at night.”

While the sheltered, suburban Amy Kuney might have been freaked out by these road rigors, the post-Honduras Kuney took it in stride. After all, she owes her musical career to that then-unwelcome sojourn.

“If I had not moved to Honduras I’d probably still be in Oklahoma, wanting to do what I’m doing now but without the time or the energy to make it happen. Fortunately, I’ve gotten to live a very exciting life.”

In a small California town, in a small bar like many across the country, Five A.M. took the stage to once again prove themselves in front of a crowd who knew nothing of them or their music. As the sound swelled up and began to win over fans one by one, it poured out into the street until it reached a tired business man on his way home. Compelled by what he heard, he soon found himself in the club taking in the music. This chance encounter would be the first step of many, and he would quickly become a friend and energized supporter of the band, providing them funding akin to a record label. Thus began the year long adventure that became “Raise the Sun.” Recorded in Vancouver and San Francisco, Five A.M.’s third full length album teams the band with Grammy nominated producer Jeff Dawson (Daniel Powter’s "Bad Day") and Grammy winning mixer Mike Fraser (Aerosmith, Hinder, Rush, AC/DC).

Their angel investor had only just begun his crusade for Five A.M. He was so moved by the album’s first track, “Still In Love With You”, he wrote and produced a short film around it, featuring Ice T, Eddie Furlong, and Rumer Willis. It’s a powerful mini movie that speaks to the violence and atrocities humans inflict on eachother, and aims to promote peace - a message perfectly keeping with the soul of the band.

“’Raise the Sun’ is an album of love, hope, and reaching for something bigger than oneself,” says lead singer and songwriter Trent Yaconelli. “I grew up believing the best kind of music was more than something to dance to. It was something that could change someone’s perspective, change someone’s life, bring people together or change the world. That’s what this collection of songs is about, and that’s what this band is about.”

Incredibly, “Raise the Sun” marks the third time Five A.M. fans have helped the band realize their music. In 2003, Five A.M. fans raised $21,000 to fund the groups’ debut album, “Degrees of Falling.” For their second outing “This Morphine Life,” they were literally pushed into the studio by the president of a recording college, who happened to hear them playing live for a campus webcast.

It’s this unique combination of energy and passion, both in their music and message that compels listeners to Five A.M., and keeps them on the road playing over 70 dates per year throughout the western states. The band’s intense live energy has brought them into the league of national acts, where they’ve been billed with Train, Rocco DeLuca, Dishwalla, Cracker, Guster, The Gin Blossoms and Sister Hazel. Now, armed with the radio ready promise of “Raise the Sun” and the support of industry veterans, Five A.M. has stepped up to the plate, looking to make the same impact on a national level.

The music of Woodfish can be described as a combination of rock, jam, funk and progressive styles which, infused together, provide audiences with an intoxicating and entertaining musical experience. Whether playing in a concert hall or an intimate barroom, in front of 3 or 30,000 people, Woodfish remains true to the spirit of rock and roll by bringing charisma and passion to every song they write and perform. At a Woodfish show a wide range of audiences, from young children to baby-boomers; hip-hoppers to punk rockers; tweens to teens and college students to jam band enthusiasts, are often seen moving and grooving together throughout an explosively energetic performance which typifies the live Woodfish experience.

The inception of Woodfish can be traced back to when brothers Steve (on bass) and Dominic Kalorin (drummer) would perform together at local NJ open mic and jam nights. As the brothers progressively began identifying a cohesive, consistent sound in their jams, which combined elements of free jamming and applied traditional and cutting edge songwriting arrangement styles, audiences took notice. This increasing demand enabled Woodfish to perform in larger venues that tended to rely only on large scale, well known cover band acts to entertain audiences.

Much of Woodfish’s celebrated and unique sound stems from the drive of Steve’s bass and Dominic’s drums. However, no two Woodfish songs sound exactly alike, which allows audiences to connect with the true, diverse spirit of rock and roll music, while hearing a variety of musical influences reflected throughout the Woodfish experience. The power of music has always been fundamentally important to each member of Woodfish. Brothers Dominic (drums) and Steve (bass) Kalorin were raised surrounded by a variety of high level musical influences, including classical, jazz and contemporary stylings, which can be detected throughout Woodfish’s intensely rhythmic sound. Singer Jimmy Counihan’s love of music can also be traced back to his youth in which, by the age of six as a member of his church concert choir, his commanding vocal prowess had received notice. Guitarist Doug Mikula found his musical calling at the age of twelve. As a natural, Doug’s guitar chops have been described as “shredding steel into little bits of musical, melodic nuggets.”

The music of Woodfish has been formally recognized by both peers and industry with the presentation of several awards including: “Best Groove Rock Band, Best Jam Band, Best Bass Player” and as the “2006 New Jersey Shore Performer of the Year.” Additionally Woodfish has had the privilege of playing along side highly esteemed musical acts, including: Foghat, Keller Williams, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, The Spin Doctors’ Chris Barron, Particle, Oteil & the Peacemakers (from the Allman Brothers), Devon Allman’s Honeytribe, Will Hoge, deSol and Constantine Maroulis. Currently, Woodfish is looking forward to spreading their love of rock & roll by impacting additional audiences with their high energy musical performances.

From Kingsbury.net:

In November, we are going to release a new version of our website, kingsburymusic.net. On this new version, we are going to release our new EP "Lie To Me" for free. You will also be able to download everything we have ever recorded for free. We will have live recordings, random tracks that never got released, studio footage, all the album artwork, all the lyrics, and maybe even a few cover songs if we don't get sued for playing them.

Kingsburymusic.net is going to be the portal to everything we do from here on. Every time we record a new song, we will post it. All the pictures we take, the videos we make, the ideas we have, everything will be on the site. And we will post it as quickly as we can make it. Think of it as an online music blog, but the only content will be content we create.

The site is going to have a donations link, so that if you feel so inclined, you can help us with making our wonderful content. All of the donation money will be reinvested into our recording studio, gas for our van, and other infrastructure we may need to make more abundant and higher quality audio and video.

All of our records and related merchandise will still be on sale for all of you on Post-Records.com. Hardcopy releases will still be released on Post-Records, and if we get enough money from donations, we are going to press vinyl copies of "Lie To Me" and "The Great Compromise".

We strongly feel that the way people consume music and media is radically changing, and as technology changes, the relevance of the album will continue to come into question. Rather than try to fight a changing media climate, we would rather spend our time setting up a system that we can be as creative and constant as possible.

We are going to change the way we do things as a band, because our culture and technology is changing. We are excited about the change, and we hope you are too.

The first time I ever heard Elliott Smith was around the time Good Will Hunting came out and he was making the rounds on talk shows promoting the soundtrack. I saw him on Conan O'Brien, and didn't really think much of him to be honest. I figured he was just one of many artists I had seen on Conan or Leno and would never listen to again. Sadly, it took his death to make me revisit his music as I've always been fascinated by artists who have died (too) young. What I found in Elliott is nothing short of a religious experience. Every song is like listening to someone lay their heart on the line every time he sings, every word he wrote was straight from his heart, and there is no faking it with Elliott. For better or worse, he makes you feel something when you listen to his music. It was 5 years ago today Elliott took his own life and left millions of fans heartbroken and wondering what could have been. True, he left us with some of the best music of our generation, but I'll always wonder what more he could have done had he lived another 40 years, 20 years..heck, even 5 years. We missed out on a lot of great music, no doubt about it. Hopefully, wherever he is now, he is much happier and at peace. Here are some demos, outtakes, unreleased and live songs of Elliott, hopefully you will find them enjoyable.

I blogged about this group a few months ago when they had released their album titled "Glue". They are now working on a yet to be titled CD, and from the sounds of the new songs posted on their website, it looks to be a strong follow up and I can't wait to hear what they have brought to the table on their second album. Enjoy a few selections they have graciously posted on their website, and be sure to check back regularly for news on their new album as it gets a title and release date.
Curtis Peoples, one of Los Angeles' most popular indie singer-songwriters, puts on an energetic live show that has audiences cheering and singing along. He's already done one national tour to packed houses since the release of his self-titled debut album.

At the end of October, the deep-voiced Curtis will be on the road again with Tony Lucca and Ernie Halter, going across the country from LA's Roxy to New York's Canal Room. Then, he opens for Tyler Hilton for five December dates on the East Coast.

Curtis loves touring because, he says, "It's just so free - you never know exactly what's going to happen!" And he's particularly looking forward to playing some new venues and some new cities, including Minneapolis, Annapolis and Virginia Tech.

Touring with Tyler Hilton, a longtime friend and collaborator who may be as well-known for his acting roles in 'One Tree Hill' and the recent film 'Charlie Bartlett' as he is for his strong songwriting and stirring vocals (his sophomore album is due from Warner Bros. in 2009), is sure to bring back memories for Curtis, who vividly recalls his first national tour opening for Tyler in 2004.

"It was such an amazing experience," he enthuses, "that I never wanted it to end. I really appreciated Tyler's support then, and I still do." To commemorate that tour, Curtis and Tyler visited a New York tattoo parlor after their show there, along with friend Michelle Branch, and Curtis got his only tattoo, a prominent Beatles logo on his right biceps muscle.

"I don't think I'll ever get another one," he says. "This one's my good-luck charm, because that tour is what made me know that I want to be out there playing for the rest of my life."

At the root of every great song is power- a vital element in the composition that naturally seizes the emotions of the listener and takes them on a journey. Minutes later, the sounds may have stopped, but the melody continues floating through minds, rests among memories and creates a feeling. Whether that feeling be freedom, remorse, hope or ecstasy, it takes a great storyteller to be able to make that happen. Someone who lives life with a no-holds barred attitude, has experienced the bad with the good and owns the gift to relate the journeys he has been on with anyone and everyone who will listen. In other words, Jay Della Valle.

The New Jersey born and bred artist (in every sense of the word) awakens his audience to all the possibilities of life. Those along for the ride travel to coffee shops in Montreal, the boardwalk at Seaside Heights and anywhere else his voice takes them. Each of Della Valle’s four albums is like an aural photo album, the tracks snapshots along the way.

“Most of my early songs were not just about losing someone close, but getting back to yourself,” shares Della Valle. “They became about moving on with your life. As time went on, inspirations were illuminated by new things, and I started to be able to write about being young, innocent, and reckless--three things I always hope to be at heart in many ways. Although, I think it's too late for innocent.”

A musician since childhood, Della Valle’s talent was nurtured from a young age by his father, a singer and bandleader in a wedding entertainment company. “I have never been afraid of an audience,” he reveals. “That's one thing about me as a performer. Even when I was ten years-old, I got up to sing karaoke whenever I could. I never felt self-conscious about my voice or about being on stage. This is half the battle for any performer--getting over this fear--and I never really had it. So I'm fortunate for naturally having this freedom.”

It also helps that Della Valle, a graduate of New York University’s Gallatin School, makes a living as a Wedding & Bar/Bat Mitzvah Emcee, which allows him to practice public performance on the regular. The success of this “day job” has allowed him to self-record and produce all his projects, the most notable of which is The Glorius Mustache Challenge. The acclaimed documentary sparked a revival of the ‘stache among men under 30 years-old and landed Della Valle and his cohorts on the cover of AM New York, live on the air during The Today Show and in The New York Times (just to name a few).

Influenced especially by certain bands like U2, Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, Ryan Adams, Butch Walker, Elvis Costello, The Replacements, Our Lady Peace and Snow Patrol, Della Valle promises fans can expect Pop-Rock songs that are just as compelling, moving and engaging for him as it is for crowds. “If I have an overall message in my music, it has to say something and be simple in its nature,” he explains, continuing, “and most importantly, it has to be fun for me to sing and play.”

Having rocked stages from coast to coast- including the Sundance Film Festival and South by Southwest- alongside Wilco, Spin Doctors, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers and Rye Coalition, Della Valle is quite the seasoned performer.

“I take a lot of inspiration and influence from lead singers with outsized personalities that are not afraid to tell stories, speak out and be vulnerable. Guys who not only know how to make beautiful noise, but those who can embrace and utilize silence as an instrument,” he says. “They take control of their audiences and when people leave their shows, they're leaving with more than they came with. I guess more than anything as a musician/singer/performer--I want to have that influence on people.”
