After watching the San Antonio Silver Stars' double-digit, second-half lead fade into a one-point deficit, Becky Hammon and Sophia Young got aggressive. Hammon scored a season-high 28 points and combined with Young to score San Antonio's final 24 points and the Silver Stars held off the Washington Mystics for a 83-75 win on Sunday.

Los Angeles Sparks star Candace Parker had a spectacular WNBA debut against the Phoenix Mercury, who responded less than three weeks later by spoiling the heralded rookie's home debut. Shameka Christon scored 18 of her 25 points in the first half and the New York Liberty snapped the Phoenix Mercury's four-game winning streak, 93-83 on Saturday night. Diana Taurasi led the Mercury (8-8) with 25 points, despite missing 12 of 19 shots from the field. Janel McCarville had 21 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Liberty, who improved to 2-2 on their five-game road trip.

Tammy Sutton-Brown and Katie Douglas each scored 18 points to lead the Indianapolis Fever to an 81-74 win over the Connecticut Sun on Saturday night. Tully Bevilaqua had 17 points as Indiana won its second straight game over the Sun this season and ended the visitors five-game win streak at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Tina Thompson scored 19 points in her first game since missing four games because of a broken finger, leading the Houston Comets to a 73-65 victory over the Sacramento Monarchs on Saturday. Thompson helped the Comets (9-9) reach .500 for the first time this season after they started the year 0-5. The Comets have won eight of their last 12.

Alana Beard is having the best season of her five-year WNBA career, but that hasn't helped the Washington Mystics enjoy much success in 2008. Beard will try to help the Mystics avoid their third straight loss on Sunday, when they host the Western Conference-leading San Antonio Silver Stars. Washington (6-10) has lost eight of 12 after a 2-2 start this season.
