I've had several people ask me what I think the best, top, most user friendly, ultimate, and so on distribution is--so now I'm publishing my Top 10 Linux Distributions in reverse order of preference.
Solution: I’m installing Damn Small Linux and LAMP on USB Thumb Drives and giving them to the kids I work with, to allow them to work from anywhere, as long as a computer is available.
If you've installed PCLinuxOS with an advanced partitioning, prepare for a painful surprise. SimplyMEPIS (up to 8.0 beta 2) doesn't let you install /usr, /var and /tmp into the partitions of your preference.
The Debian Project neither sets nor adheres to defined release dates for its GNU/Linux distribution. Basically, they have the "we'll release when ready" philosophy, and given that a version of Debian that has been designated as Stable actually does mean something to users, I'm fine to wait.

I'm setting up a new web server for a client of mine, and was supposed to start installing it this evening. After unpacking it I realized that this new HP ProLiant DL 120 came without a cd-rom and thus the Debian ISO netinstall image I had downloaded was useless.

I just finished installing the PECL filter extension on my Debian install (AMD64), and by God, it was painful. This process was so brutal with so many ways to screw up.

Sidux, a relatively new desktop Linux distribution, is based on Sid, the unstable developmental branch of Debian. The developers strive for an easy-to-install and easy-to-use modern Debian derivative, and pride themselves on remaining true to the principles and values of the Debian project.
