Your most important keywords will often include some of the following:-

Your company name, including synonyms and abbreviations.
All product and brand names that you feature on your website.
Countries, regions, or cities you have an association with - often in combination with the one of the words above.
Relevant generic terms for your business, brands, or services (e.g. loan, real estate or travel).
Combinations of 2 and 3 keywords - many people search for phrases rather than single words.

Market structure:
In 2006, North American advertisers spent US$9.4 billion on search engine marketing, a 62% increase over the prior year and a 750% increase over the 2002 year. The largest SEM vendors are Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and Microsoft adCenter.As of 2006, SEM was growing much faster than traditional advertising.

As the number of sites on the Web increased in the mid-to-late 90s, search engines started appearing to help people find information quickly. Search engines developed business models to finance their services, such as pay per click programs offered by Open Text in 1996 and then Goto.com in 1998. Goto.com later changed its name to Overture in 2001, and was purchased by Yahoo! in 2003, and now offers paid search opportunities for advertisers through Yahoo! Search Marketing. Google also began to offer advertisements on search results pages in 2000 through the Google AdWords program. By 2007 pay-per-click programs proved to be primary money-makers for search engines.

History:

You'll get attention alright; if a search engine thinks you've been spamming, it'll ban you. Don't plagiarize either. Stealing content from other sites will also get you banned. This is also guaranteed to get you banned; don't do it.

Word stemming
-a practice used to some search engines in which searches will return results for words based upon a particular stem. For example, a search for "develop" might return pages containing the words "development" or "developer."

PPC
-Abbreviation for Pay Per Click. An advertising model where advertisers pay only for the traffic generated by their ads.

Doorway Page
-These content pages are designed only to rank high on the search engines for particular keywords. They act as ‘door ways’ that would lead a visitor further into the site.

Spam
-In SEO, Spam refers to manipulation techniques that violate search engine's Terms of Service and are designed to achieve higher rankings for a web page.

FFA Site
-A so-called "free for all links" page, which is created for the sole purpose of compiling links. Submission software or companies that claim to submit your site to hundreds or thousands of "search engines" actually use these for most of that number. FFA sites are essentially worthless in terms of generating traffic, and links from them will count nothing towards your site's link popularity. Basically, they're a waste of time.

Submission
-The process of manually adding a URL to a search engine's list of URLs to spider - in effect telling a spider about a page in order to get it spidered and ultimately added to the search engine's database.

AdSense
-Google's contextual based ad program. It is an easy way to display relevant Google’s ads on your website and earn money as the same time.
