What is a resource box ?

A resource box is what you usually find at the end of an article. They will contain the name of the author, a brief description of the author, a brief description of the sponsoring site and a link. If a reader likes what they read, they would have the tendency to find out where the article came from to read more. The resource bow will be their link to the source of the article and this will entice them to go to the site and do some more reading or research for the subject or topic they are interested in.

Through the recent years many people have learned the secrets of Search Engine Optimization. More and more sites have seen the effects articles have done for the traffic of their sites. Some have even created sites devoted entirely to providing articles that could be read by their website visitors and have links that could lead to many sites that are related to the topics and subjects of the articles.

For example, the sites may feature many articles about a whole lot of topics. As a website visitor reads the articles they have searched for, they can find at the end of the article a resource box that can be clicked on to link them to the site that has submitted the article. Of course the article would be in relation to the site. Lets say if the article is about rotating the tires, the resource box may lead to a link to a site that sells tires or car parts.

But like the article itself, the resource box must also be eye-catching to demand the attention and interest of the reader. While the resource bow encompasses only a small space, providing the right keywords and content for your resource box will provide more prodding for the reader to go to your site.

Now we know what resource boxes are, what are the benefits of having a good resource box? Mainly its driving traffic to your site. Many sites would allow articles to be placed in their sites because they can make use of the articles to fill their pages. They also get affiliation with other sites that can be beneficial for them as well. For the sponsoring site, when you get people to click on your resource box, you generate traffic that can be counted upon as potential customers.

So what would be a good content for your resource box? Basically it is keywords, learning about the proper keywords that people are mainly searching for. There are many tools you can find in the internet that can help you in determining what keywords to use.

Resource boxes can also make use of all the creativity it can get. You only get a small space for your resource box so you better make the most of it. Try to catch the attention of your reader with resource box content that can make them give a second look. Unlike TV ads, you don’t have visual aids to drive your point in. But you do have the power of imagination of a reader. With the right content, you can make them think and intrigued.

Another tip is to use keywords that should be related to your site. Do not mislead your potential website visitors. Build your credibility so that more people would get enticed to visit your site and browse what you have to offer. Make the people click your resource box by providing resource box content that makes a lasting impression. You only get one chance to wow them and hundreds of chances to repulse them.

Never underestimate the power of the resource box. It may be small in size but they will provide a significant aid in driving traffic to your site. A boring resource box will never get a job done. Be fun and creative but at the same time show that you have a great deal to offer, too much to ask for something that couldn’t fit a paragraph? Yes and no, there are many tips and guides that can help you in doing this, the first step is realizing how important a resource box could be in making people click your link and be directed to your site.

Article marketing takes time. You have to write the articles. Then find and broadcast your articles to relevant sites!

Is it worth the investment in time, energy and money?

Ask these questions to find out...

My Top 10 Questions to Discovering If Article Marketing Is For You

1. Do you want to grow your business?

Articles will contribute to your bottom line. One of my articles made over $10,000 in a two-month period.

2. Do you want more prospects and leads?

Your prospects are looking online for information that can help them. When you write an information-based article, you will attract prospects who can become customers for life.

3. Are you looking to stand out from your competitors?

When editors print your articles, you are getting their implied endorsement.. Top, targeted, high trafficked websites like About.com don't print just anything. So when they chose your material, you are judged at a higher level.

4. Do you want to build your brand?

Then article marketing is for you.

When you write articles and have them printed on dozens of sites, people will start to recognize your name. The more you do this, the more branding power you get. Eventually, you will be seen as an expert. Don't be surprised to hear prospects call you and say "I see you everywhere!"

5. Do you want maximum online publicity so you get your name out to your targeted audiences?

If you've ever wondered why your competitor's article was printed when you are a bigger expert than she is, the answer is simple. She wrote the article and you did not! So, she's getting in front of your audience, and getting your customers!

6. Do you want to improve your search engine rankings?

Article marketing will help you by offering links from credible sites back to your site. The bigger and better the site, the more clout the link has. And the more high quality links you have, the higher you climb in search engine rankings. So shoot for the moon!

7. Do you want to build your list of newsletter subscribers and blog readers?

Then write articles. People will see how smart you are and will want to read your material on a regular basis. This way, you can promote to them over and over again.

By writing articles and getting them published on sites like About.com Home Business, Marketing Profs and many more, we built our list of loyal subscribers. When we were ready to launch our A to Z Article System at broadcastyourarticles.com , we were able to sell to our list and score thousands of dollars in eBook sales in just one week!

8. Do you have a white paper or special report that can help you promote your company and sell more services and products?

Then writing articles will help you get the word out. Write an article that highlights two or three top findings from your report. People will click through to your website to learn how they can read the rest of the report. After all, articles are only 750 words long. Your report can be as long and detailed as you want. Your report can also include sales information so readers can take the path to become customers

9. Do you have info products like home study courses, teleseminars or e-books?

You can take the most important points and write an article that promotes your products. That's a great way to get people to visit your site to look for more information and create a relationship with you. Be careful that you do not write a press release and pass it off as an article. Web sites do not print press releases. So don't waste your time.

10. Do you want to differentiate yourself from your competition?

Do your prospects have pre-conceptions that every company in your niche is the same? Do they think if they've seen one product, they've seen them all?
Or, do you constantly have to explain your pricing?

Then write articles that differentiate your company, your products and your services from the competition. For an example, check out my special report: "How to Choose an Article Submission Service" at IWantMoreProspects.com/10questions.

Notice in my special report, how every question we tell our prospects to ask is something we include in our article submission service that no one else does. Now, we differentiated ourselves from every other article submission company. Now, you can tell that not all article marketing services are the same.

Now, one final question: Is article marketing perfect for you?

Oftentimes when it comes to article writing, the end result can be pretty mundane. In many instances, there is nothing that prevents you from getting creative in your article writing. There are some pointers that will be helpful to you when it comes to getting creative in your article writing. By understanding these pointers, you will end up making your article writing more useful and more powerful.

Article writing can be extremely boring at times, especially if you are shooting for a specific number of articles written each day.

So it is easy with article writing to get sloppy, to forget to make the article interesting, or to not do a good job of teaching whatever it is you are teaching in the article.

So how do you make an article interesting, interesting enough that the reader sticks with you through to the end of the article and clicks on your web site?

The must fundamental factor that you need to master when it comes to getting creative with your article writing is your choice of words. While you do not want to utilize a “big” word when something more concise will do, you will want to use interesting words whenever possible.

Another fundamental factor that you will want to need to appreciate when working to make your article writing more creative is the manner in which you structure a particular article. Long blocks of text are far less compelling than a pithy, direct and smartly written sentence or paragraph. Don't use five words when one will do.

One of the easiest ways to do this is to write a ‘how to’ article – much like this one. By writing a how-to article, you are specifically dealing with exactly what the title indicates, and you are meeting a need of your reader. The nice thing about a how to article is that only people interested in learning ‘how to’ do something specific will read your article – and as long as you stick to the topic and teach them how to do it, you will succeed at writing an interesting article, at least to them.

Another way to create an interesting article is to include a story of how what you are writing about has helped someone else – how your technique has benefited someone else.

And still another way that you can keep your article interesting is to offer information that is rarely found elsewhere – and possibly even only information that you alone can offer

There is no end to the subjects you can write about and you can use any style you wish. However, it has to be something that people will want to read. "How to" articles are very popular with both website owners and readers and can be a great way to get your article marketing campaign underway. Basically, the purpose of a 'how to' article is to explain to a reader how to do something.

If you are using article marketing to help drive traffic to your website you will need to come up with ideas for articles that people will want to publish and read. The quality of articles found on article directories can vary significantly so it is important that yours are among the best available for your article marketing campaign to be successful.

So let's get started. When you are writing a "how to" article remember that you are the teacher so write in an authoritative tone. You are sharing your expertise with someone who may have little knowledge of the subject at hand. So keep your writing style simple and your instructions clear.

Of course, you will have to have a good knowledge of how to do the task yourself before you can think about instructing anyone else how to do it, so stick to what you know. There are many possibilities. If you have experience in networking you could write a 'how to' article on how to set up a router at home, or if you love cars you could write an article on 'how to service your car'. There are endless possibilities for 'how to' articles, in fact you are reading one right now.

Also, you must start at the beginning and work through the task step by step. Sometimes it may be beneficial to use bullet points to help give the impression that it is a step by step process. Alternatively you can link the steps with words like 'next', 'and then' or 'now'. If you are new to writing the bullet points option might be best for you as it keeps things simple, and helps you avoid complex grammatical structures.

As you write, re-read your text every few paragraphs, and try to read it from the reader's point of view, assuming they know nothing about the task at hand. As an expert on the subject it can be too easy to make things over-complex because the task is second nature to you. Try to imagine you are doing it for the first time and instruct the reader accordingly. Going back to our previous example, will the reader actually know what an ethernet cable is, or what a router is for that matter?

If a particular stage in the task is complex you may want to repeat the instruction, or ask the reader to check their progress so they are sure they have followed your instructions successfully.

With longer articles it is important to do this regularly so the reader does not lose track. Summarize what they have done so far, tell them what should have already been achieved and ask them to check that everything is as it should be. If a reader finds that the project does not look like what you have described, they can then retrace the last few steps and see where they went wrong.

If you work through your article in this manner you should be left with a clear, concise 'how to' article that takes the reader through each step of the project to completion. Read it again, at least twice, to make sure that it is well written and that instructions are clear. Wrap up with a concluding paragraph congratulating the reader for a job well done.

And finally, the icing on the cake, the headline. This does not necessarily have to be done at the end. It can be done before you write the article but you may find that headline ideas will come to you as you write your content. Be sure to spend some time perfecting your headline as this can be the difference between the success and failure of your article.

It has been said that the pen is mightier then the sword. If that is the case then why are you not using what could be the most powerful item to get noticed online?

When we started our website, we were not much different than anyone else out there. Our website went live and we worked to get all of our customers. One way we did this was work with other web sites that were similar in nature to ours and agreed to write articles for them.

These articles we wrote helped us build our customer base online and gave us the ability to get our expertise out there in written word on the world wide web.

Are you an expert in something? What does your company specialize in? Answer those two questions and start writing about them. To get noticed online give people what they want to read, information, and web site partners what they crave, content.

Let us look at the quality of articles first. Writing for quality will allow you to create unique content that readers will want to finish reading and will be helped by your article. When you write for quality content you are looking to help your reader, but you have to be careful to leave them wanting more or you will lose out on what you are really after, which is traffic to your website.

You should write about one article per week. If you have the time to write more that`s great, but once a week will do. Create partnerships with other websites that could use your content. For example, my friend runs a rental property repair business. He writes about an article a week on how to handle the small repairs, and other things of that nature. His content can be found on real estate investors, investment clubs, and landlord web sites and so on.

You get the point. After he writes his articles he then emails them to his contact and they do the rest. They post it on their website; even email it to their members in their newsletters.

Your article should be 500 to 100 words in length. Any shorter and it won`t be taken serious, any longer and no one will read it because it will be too long and take up too much space on your partner`s web site.

Your article should be informational. In other words it shouldn't be 500 words on why they should use your service or buy your product, but 500 words on what you are an expert at with some statistics if possible.

Finally, after the article is complete add an "About the Author" section where you tell people who you are and how they can get in touch with you. You can see an example of this in our own article here.

Make sure you write for your readers and give them something that they want. Answer a burning question, give them a handful of good tips, or define something that needs to be defined. If you don't give your readers anything they won't read the entire article and won't click through to your site. You also have to make sure you leave them wanting more so that they will click through to your website.

Writing for quality is a good way to create good articles, but you need to also write for quantity because it is a numbers game and the more quality articles you have out there the better chances you will have to create a ton of traffic. So combine quality and quantity writing in your article marketing and you will see better success than just writing a few articles that are very good or putting out a ton of junk articles.

Articles published on the correct web sites will greatly improve your popularity online for your business and web site. The best part it only costs you some time.

Article writing is a great way to increase the amount of traffic to your website, more importantly increasing your exposure to the world. Writing articles is all about getting links to your website, usually done from within what a "resource box." Your resource box should contain links back to your website, after someone reads your article if they are looking for additional information on the subject they are re-directed to your website.

Resources boxes play an important role in developing back links to your website, which are very important to search engines for ranking your site against your competition. Back links are one of the key factors that search engine use to rate your website based on relevance of a specific keyword, or topic. Creating an effective resource box will drive traffic to your website each time a reader would like additional information about the topic.

Article writing by far is the fastest way to build your back links, drive traffic to your website. Traffic is ultimately, what you want right. You did not build your website just to sit there and wait for people to stumble upon it occasionally. In addition, article writing is a fast and effective way to get your website indexed with the major search engines. When articles are published to directories that already have a lot of traffic your site is "picked" up by the search engines crawlers the next time they visit their web site, this means faster indexing and inclusion in search engines

Once you write an article you have to get it published, this is very easy to do, find article directories that are high traffic and user friendly. High traffic sites are your best option, your article spread around the internet much faster, and therefore getting you traffic faster.

The more articles that you write the more traffic you drive to your website. A good number to start with is five articles, write and publish a minimum of 5 per day, or at least 150 per month. In the right directories and distribution, you can build thousands of back links a month.

Ever wondered how internet marketing worked? How does anybody who is into internet marketing inform his potential customers that he exists? And how do customers who are looking for something specific, know where to look for it? Given the sheer profusion of pages on the internet, this can be a herculean task for both the buyer as well as the seller.

Internet marketing is all about catching the 'eye of the spider'. 'Spiders' are ingenious little devices that search all the pages of the World Wide Web looking for those pages that are most relevant to the search term that the internet user has entered. Not only do spiders find the appropriate pages, but they also rank these pages in order of relevance, making it easier for the user to find what he is looking for. Goes without saying, anybody looking for something would first click on the page that is right on top of the list. If he finds what he is looking for, that's it- he looks no further. It is only if he does not find what he wants that he will then go down the list of pages that the spiders have ranked in decreasing order of relevance. The key then, is to make sure your website is ranked right up there above all others that have the same keyword.

Here are a few tips on how you can use article marketing to catch the eye of that all-important spider and get your website ranked right up there, where it can be seen by millions of users.

Make sure your article content is original

Spiders never forget! They memorize every article they have ever crawled over. If they come across a similar article during subsequent searches they immediately pick it out as a plagiarized copy. Instead of the brownie points you would expect to win for featuring valuable content on your web site, your web site would get penalized for featuring copied content. It is critical to make sure that your article content is always original.

Post your original articles on your own website first

By posting your original content on your own website before distributing it to other sites, you stake a claim to your article, and prevent those spiders from penalizing it for duplication. Also, when the spider picks up your article during a search, if the article is posted on your website, it will lead the reader straight to your site circumventing the round-about route.

Embed those keywords and keyword phrases

Using appropriate keywords and keyword phrases throughout your article while maintaining optimum keyword density, is critical. Proper keywords used correctly helps spiders index your website and leverages your search engine optimization. It is important to remember that proper usage of keywords and keyword phrases is critical. Keywords that are randomly placed throughout the article, known as keyword stuffing, will only help get your article disqualified and penalized by search engines. And if your article that is unintelligently keyword stuffed, does get past the search engines, your site visitors will be none too impressed with the quality of your articles and will almost certainly turn away. Once this happens, it is almost impossible to lure them back again.

Increase your link popularity

Spiders determine the popularity and relevancy of your website by the quality and quantity of inbound hyperlinks from other websites to yours. Include an "About the Author" section with a link to your website in every author resource box at the end of your article. It is obligatory for other websites to include this section if they decide to publish your article on their site. This in itself will guarantee you unlimited free publicity. If your article is informative and interesting, and is placed on several sites, you would automatically get plenty of links pointing back to your site. This is guaranteed to catch the eye of the spider and increase your search engine ranking.

Maximize your exposure through article distribution sites

By submitting your articles to large distributions sites such as GoArticles.com or eZine.com you increase the chances of your article being repurposed by other webmasters who are continuously seeking quality content. This can have a kind of viral effect and send a continuous stream of significant traffic towards the direction of your articles.

Persistence pays

Writing just one article, no matter how good, is not enough to get you the desired results. Catching the eye of the spider takes time. To reap the benefits of article marketing requires time and patience as well as the unswerving commitment to generate and disseminate good quality articles consistently. This is what will create a valuable footprint in your field of expertise and help increase the number of back-links to your site.

Maintain that word count

Most websites will only accept and distribute articles that meet their specified article requirements with regard to minimum and maximum length. As a rule, articles should be no more than 500 words and no less than 300 words.

As part of a good article marketing strategy, authors and business owners put a lot of thought, time, research and effort on selecting the best subjects, keywords and overall components of a good, revenue-driving article. When the time comes to finally making it public, there are a myriad of options. Let's take a look at one of this article publishing options; article directories.

Article directories are websites that house free articles. These articles are usually provided by whoever owns the copyright to them as a one of its promotion methods. Each article has the owners information placed under it so that those who eventually read the article will know who wrote it (or at least who owns it) and will be able to get in contact with or visit their website for further information.

Articles directories are a great place to put your articles so that they will make a profit for you. By using this method, people who are interested in your product or service will look at your article, view you as a subject matter expert, and will visit your website. Even if you cannot write or do not have any knowledge on the subject on which you are promoting , for example in the case of an affiliate website you own, you can always hire a writer, usually known as a ghost writer, to do the work for you. Getting quality articles written will be expensive up front, but they will pay for themselves in no time, either through affiliate sales or selling your own services, and everything from then on is pure profit. Another source of good article material is PLR, or Private Label Right's articles, which is a matter outside of the scope of this article, you may be interested in research on it.

Let's take a real life example. Imagine that you are a lawyer working from home. You write an article on certain topics on law and place it on various article directories. Those who are looking for the subject you wrote about will read your article, see that you have the knowledge and skill that is needed to do a job for them, and visit your website or contact you via e-mail. Your article just gained you a new client who may use your services regularly.

Furthermore, since you have posted it on a free article directory, others who have similar websites about law will inevitably use your article for their website. Since they must attach your byline to it, this will bring you even more exposure for every website or blog that re-posts your article, benefiting you from the traffic that they get to their website.

The advantages of using article directories as a vehicle for article publishing are numerous as there are numerous article directories out there for you to utilize. There are strategies were you can either publish your articles manually on these sites or you can chose for free or paid automated process to publish several sites for maximum exposure. Whatever method you pick to post to these articles directories, it may eventually help to bring more traffic and customers to your website, which will lead to new orders and more profit.

Article writing is becoming one of the top ways to market your online business today since the search engines are looking for good quality, keyword rich content. But what happens when you can’t think of anything intelligent or useful to say and are suffering from the writer’s block blues? Here are a few tips on how you can overcome your writer’s block and produce quality articles just when you think you’re fresh out of ideas:

One way to conquer your writer’s block is to visit discussion forums on the topic or subtopics of your website. Discussion forums are an amazing learning resource and support network of like-minded folk who can help you, teach you, mentor you, and guide you with a wealth of information that you may never find anywhere else. If you are stuck for words, there is always a topic that will inspire you on a forum and fill you with new and creative ideas!

You can also do more reading to learn something new. Read books, ebooks, or other people’s articles, blogs, or newsletters. These sources are packed with information waiting to be used in your next article! It is important to keep up with changes and new developments within your topic of interest. Anytime you learn something new or something has changed, you can turn around and use that information to your advantage by including it in a new article!

Another technique is to take some of the larger articles you’ve already written and break them down into smaller subtopics, focusing on just a piece of what you have discussed before. For example, I have written an article on first steps for new affiliates to start an internet marketing business, and I could take one of those steps and create a new article just covering one step!

I have found it useful as well to write about the programs that I am using, following, and learning about myself. For example, I am using the Plug-in Profit Site to build my business, and I could write an article on how the program works, or on how one aspect of the program works!

If you still aren’t coming up with any good ideas, you can step back and take a look at your life, what is happening in it, and what lessons you have learned that you can apply to your next article idea. How do you feel? Are you a discouraged newbie at internet marketing? Write about your experiences! What challenges do you face on a daily basis to keep your business afloat? Write about them! Also listen to what other people’s concerns are, say in one of the forums you visit, or even your friends and family! Write about how your friends set up a savings plan for their child, and how the same technique can be applied to saving for your business!

It also helps to write about what you are passionate about. Hopefully your business is all about what excites you and what you love. When you enjoy what you are doing the ideas tend to flow. If they don’t, I would suggest brainstorming to come up with ideas and jot them down during the day so you can use them in your articles later. Don’t forget that sometimes you just need to clear your head, take a break, go for a walk, and when your mind is most clear, that is when the best ideas suddenly come to you.

If all else fails…If you really don’t know how to write, or what to write, you can always hire an article ghost-writing service to write your articles for you! Easy as pie!

Top Tips on how you can sell your articles to magazines and newspapers

Writing articles for print publications can be profitable but you need to implement the right approach to gain those much-sought after commissions in what has become a highly competitive market. To enhance your chances of success, consider the following guidelines:

Do Your Research

Many writers fail to gain commissions because they haven’t studied their target publications. You need to be in-tune with the title’s readership and be familiar with their house-style. Good research leads on to commissions so make time to study your markets carefully.

Emulate the Publication’s Style

Make sure that you write to suit your target publication in terms of article topic appeal, style, tone, length and type of vocabulary used. The editor is more likely to commission you if your material fits the publication’s format.

Find New Angles to Old Stories

Editors have published just about every topic imaginable so your greatest challenge when writing about a subject that has been extensively covered is to come up with a new angle. If you can focus on a different slant, you will more likely capture the editor’s attention.

Make Sure Your Article Has Substance

Where appropriate to the publication’s requirements, provide fact-rich articles which include statistics, quotes and information that will appeal to your target audience. Follow the editor’s guidelines.

Aim for Error-Free Copy

Check your work carefully to avoid typos or poor delivery. In fact, check your copy several times until you are absolutely certain that it is error-free and suitable for publication. Look out for mistakes in the spelling of names or places. Also check for statistical or factual errors.

Think like a Reader

Read your article through the eyes of a typical reader of your target publication. How does your article rate compared to other features? Is your copy informative, appealing, practical and /or entertaining? Have you covered both sides of an argument? Be objective. If you think your article is lacking, go back to it and make the necessary revisions.

Think like an Editor

Can you improve your article by writing more concisely? Read your article as if you are the editor and make any necessary revisions that will enhance your writing style. If you can save the editor from additional work by submitting succinct but sparkling copy, this will work in your favour.

Source Images

Some publications like to commission a complete package of words and pictures. This saves the editor time and the inconvenience of sourcing specific images. If you have access to images which you have permission to use (preferably ones you have taken to avoid copyright issues), then mention this to the editor. Quality needs to be good though. If you have suitable images, this will further increase your chances of gaining a commission and there may even be an extra fee for the pictures!

Be Professional

Keep your cover letters concise and business-like. Follow the contributor guidelines and ensure that your approach is timely and professional. If you impress the editor with your approach, this will bode well for gaining future work.

Look at All Your Options

Many writers aim to sell their articles to high-paying mainstream publications but competition can be incredibly tough. It’s worth sourcing a selection of lower-circulation publications or specialist trade titles. Some do pay reasonably well … in some instances much better than the mainstream publications … whereas the lower paying ones can be a source of more regular repeat commissions if you have the right material.

Ultimately, the editor is looking for a great feature that will enlighten their readers so focus on producing quality work with a captivating title and introduction. Your copy needs to come alive on the page. With the right application, you can gain regular commissions and make a good income from writing for magazines and newspapers. Good luck!

What if you discover that a single article you submitted to some 10 websites 2 weeks ago generate huge traffic to your site.

This is simple and very effective. Just make sure that you do the following.

1. Entitle your article with a unique, attractive and different topic

At first sight, your target will surely get caught by the topic making them read more. At least they will keep reading on the

description of your article

2. The description of your article must be concrete and illustrative

People tend not to pay attention to what is too broad or intangible. They want to hear how many visitors are coming to their

sites, how big money they can have in 7 days or something like that.

So in the description, make it clear in numbers how many, how much on what you are telling them.

3. Make your advice into steps

This will help them clearly understand what you are saying step-by-step and it is easy to remember. I think you have seen a

lot of articles started with 3, 5 or 10 steps to blah blah blah. It works!

4. Make your biography attractive

It is useless if no one wants to visit your website after reading your article. As they have got ideas from your articles, they

may not come to visit your site to read more articles of yours. If you describe yourself or your website in a different way,

they will be impressed and want to know more about you.

Have you fallen for the article marketing trap? Sending out second rate articles, worrying too much about word count and ignoring all the things that would make your effort more successful?

Article marketing has swept through the internet like an avalanche. Virtually everyone knows about the technique but very few are doing it well. Many people are actually ruining their reputation by ignoring article marketing best practices.

As an article newsgroup moderator and article marketing expert I am in the trenches everyday. Increasingly, I reject more articles than I accept. More and more often I hear complaints from publishers that the articles submitted to them are pure crap. Many of these publishers complain that article submission software is to blame. I have to disagree. Here is what I think is causing the majority of problems:

* People who want to use the technique without learning how.

* Private label articles flooding the market.

* Plagiarism and copyright violations.

* Lousy articles with no redeeming values.

* Off topic articles driving publishers crazy.

* Articles that are too short or too long.

* Writers who won't divulge their identity and only use their by-line for advertising a website.

Can you connect the dots to find out where the article marketing problems lie? With the article marketer. The article marketer, like myself, loves the technique but is often strapped for time. Instead of writing unique articles or hiring a ghostwriter to write for them they get lazy. Stupidity and carelessness is also a factor but I bet being lazy causes most of the problems.

I believe that laziness is the root of all evil in the article marketing world. Any type of marketing with not work unless effort is expended and techniques are repeated regularly and reliably. Please do me a favor. If you can't make the effort then don't use the technique.

Article marketing done badly is far more damaging then not using the technique at all. It only works when you create quality work and follow submission rules. Don't blame the publishers for your shoddy articles and don't spend hours on forums complaining that the technique doesn't work. It does work. It has worked for me and for many others but it won't work for you if you insist on being lazy and irresponsible.

Make a commitment today to write well, submit only on topic unique articles and to hire help if you need it. Your best efforts will be the catalyst to better results and will support the growth of the article marketing community. Let's use the technique wisely so that it remains a viable part of internet marketing.

The most commmon reason for those that are not using the most effective way to market online today, ie. article marketing, is that they CANNOT write their own articles.

In my book this is just one more lame excuse for not taking positive action to attain success online.

Sure, there are times when the creative juices have slowed to a halt, but even this is not a good enough reason not to submit articles on a weekly basis.

I personally am not about to win the Pulitzer prize for literature anytime soon, but I can get an article in front of 1000s of eyes and on 100s of websites if I put my mind to it. I'm not ashamed to say that the finished works don't always originate in my own mind.

Here are a few ways to ensure that you are not left behind when it comes to article marketing without having to come up with your own ideas.

1. Start Taking Notes - The next time you find yourself fired up when reading posts in the online forums jot down a few notes in a notepad file on the debated topic. You will soon have the nucleus of an original article which can be completed paragraph by paragraph over the coming hours or days. Save a new notepad file everytime you get a new idea or helpful hint. If you are a forum addict then this shouldn't be too difficult. This article was written after reading an online forum post and jotting down my solutions to the problem.

2. Rewrite Private Label Articles - There are 1000s of Private label articles out there online on every topic imaginable. I frequently take an original article and rewrite it in my own words adding my own experiences. Take two or three articles on the same topic and create your own, writing it in your own words. Now, it is NOT a good idea to submit private label articles to article databases without making major changes, besides original articles are much more effective in achieiving good search engine rankings.

3. Hire A Ghost Writer - Go to Elance and hire someone to write a batch of articles for you. I have had articles written for as little as $3 per article. You get what you pay for so the cheaper articles may take a little work before submitting to databases. You can hire someone to write a good quality article for $10 per article. Of course no matter how much you pay make sure to proof read the article. Remember, your reputation is at stake and YOUR name will be put to the article.

However you decide to go about acquiring articles, the MOST important thing is that you actually take action today. Don't allow obstacles set up by your mind sabotage any chance you have of success. Those that get ahead online search for solutions, rather than reasons for not moving forward.

There are many ways to market your business on the Internet, and using search engine optimized articles has to be one of the "keeper" strategies for getting pre-qualified 'natural' search engine traffic to your web site.

Now, I'm sure you've heard all this before, "people search the Internet looking to information (aka articles) on how to solve a particular problem". People just don't search the web to buy your 'stuff'!

If you truly understand this search "path" then you understand the meat and potatoes of how the web works, it's an information resource for people.

To completely understand the above concept 'follow the money'. Search engines need content to be able to rank web sites, so that they continually get searchers BACK to their engines. The more searchers they have searching for relevant content on a search engine means more revenue for that search engine (e.g. the success of Google adsense).

This is why blogs and RSS have become the "buzz". Blogs and RSS make the content (copy, words) "fluid"... meaning that the content changes often. This means that the search engine bots love these technologies, visit more often, and then rank the content well (if the blog articles are keyword optimized).

To see how this works go to any news site. News sites have a volume of ever-changing content. For example CNN gets spidered (visited) by the Googlebot something like 28,0000 times a day.

Why? Because of CNN's ever changing content, and I guess the 'bots' are 'lazy'? They go to where the good, and changing content is more often.

The SEO aspect of article writing.

Think of SEO as "filing". What I mean by this is that good search engine optimization strategies help the search engine to "file" your content appropriately. Good keyword analysis gives you the information to enable the search engine bot with the 'right' filing.

There are no smoke and mirror tactics here. Your Mother was right when she told you that 'telling the truth is always better in the long run'. This principle especially applies to good SEO practice.

Now, how do we take this concept of "fluid", search engine optimized content and turn it into a Links IN bonanza for your own web site (thus sending your rankings through the roof over time, so to speak)?

These are the core principles...

1. Ensure that the link for your article is on a web page hosted on a unique IP address.

2. Ensure that the link for your article is on a web page that has a unique, wholly independent set of backlinks.

3. Ensure that the link is on a web page that is at least loosely relevant to the topic of your own web site.

You see, it's not just a matter of having your articles on just any article directory. Your articles need to be in a category (and preferably a specialist directory) that is within "theme'. In other words you would never post your article on 'looking after your cattle dog" on a directory that was focused on Financial Management.

In addition to placing your articles on article directories one can also run your articles on press release service sites, and of course there are RSS strategies (but that's a whole other story, and another article).

All speakers and writers who become great speakers and writers have two needs.

To be a great speaker you need to have:

1) a real and valuable knowledge of the subject you are addressing, and

2) a burning desire to share what you have to offer with others.

To be a great writer you need to have:

1) a real and valuable knowledge about the topic you are writing about, and

2) a burning desire to share what you have to offer with others.

In other words, be a good storyteller so people will listen to or read your stories.

We all must begin where we are at, whether we think we can become an internet article writer or not.

So what exactly is good writing? The best writing glides along the ice like a speed skater in a 1,500 meter race. You ride on his effortless stride, you marvel at his form, you feel his intensity and sense of controlled urgency, you appreciate his sense of competitiveness, you find yourself with him, stride for stride, measuring his distance from the leader of the pack, wondering if he can actually win, suddenly you lose control and jump into the race, you lean as he leans going around the curve, you wonder if he has what it takes to close the gap, your attention becomes riveted as he begins to narrow the margin, your heartbeat increases as he gains ground, you are glued to the moment, and then he puts on a final sprint, finally draws even, and wins by the blink of an eyelash! My God, you were there. When he mounts the awards stand and the flag of his nation rises, you rise with it. He was your choice, and he won!

Is it any wonder that athletes have such a strong following among spectators? Athletes become our heroes in any vicarious way possible. We wear a jersey when we watch the game. After the game, we play a pick-up game with our kids in the back yard. We love the feel of being in the thick of the competition, and winning.

Switching back to our main topic, what exactly is good writing?

Some people think a good sentence should be short and simple.

To the point.

Obvious.

In the first example above, the sentence goes on and on and on (168 words!), and yet you kept reading.

Writing can be either way and be effective, and there are Pulitzer Prize winners to prove it. For simple writing with short sentences, read Ernest Hemingway’s "The Old Man and the Sea." Hemingway won the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize for Literature. For sentences that go on and on and on forever, read William Faulkner’s "The Sound and the Fury," it is filled with long, convoluted sentences. Nonetheless, Faulkner, like Hemingway, also won the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize for Literature. Both were legendary novelists with opposite writing styles, and therein lies the easiest way to become an articles writer.

What is important is developing a style of writing that you are comfortable with. Even more important is getting your thoughts, some thoughts, any thoughts, onto your monitor. Until you put the letters on your keyboard onto your monitor, you are not a writer. The moment you do you have the potential to be an articles writer.

Once you have a sentence, any sentence, in front of you, you can pick it apart and make it better, because you have taken the thought out of your head and into the workplace of improvement. Write something on your monitor and it becomes manageable; try to formulate the perfect sentence in your head before you put it on your monitor, and your article may never get written.

The frustration of trying to write the perfect sentence brings on writer’s block, the inability to put your thoughts into meaningful sentences. Forget about being an articles writer, just get started and you will become one.

Go ahead, start. Begin now. Write anything down, and then make it better.

You are now on your way to becoming an internet article writer.

Question: I started an online talk radio show. I have the equipment set up and my guests lined up. But, how do I get listeners? I feel like I’m talking to myself.

Signed, Talking to Myself

Dear Talking to Myself,
First of all, Congratulations! What a big step you took to start a show. You’ve got the equipment ready, the interviews lined up and are ready to roll. I’m assuming you’ve already spent money on equipment so you don’t want to spend more on advertising. What’s a frugal online radio host to do?

Lucky for you, there are many ways to get traffic to your online radio show. One of my favorites is writing and sharing articles. If you’re unfamiliar with this method of traffic generation, it’s actually quite simple. In fact, it’s working right now. You’re reading an article that I’ve written and shared – and you can see at the bottom of the article, my author bio, where I get to share a little bit about me.

If it’s working for me, it can work for you, too. All you need to do is to find some topics, write effective articles with an author bio that works, and submit it to everyone who wants it. And repeat, repeat, repeat.

Not only will you get traffic to your website, but you’ll get more people inquiring about being guests on your show. And, if you sell advertising on your radio show, you’ll get exposure to more potential advertisers as well. Article sharing is definitely a great way to get your name out into the cyber-world.

And, the best part is that every article you send out is working for you for years to come. One article won’t likely get you a flood of traffic, but it’ll give you a ongoing drip. Fifteen articles will get you a trickle, and so on. So, get writing and get your message out there. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Question: My online store can’t make money unless I get traffic, but I can’t afford to keep buying advertising. What can I do? I feel so discouraged.
Signed, Lonely in my Store

Dear Lonely in my Store,
First of all, you are NOT doing anything wrong. Online businesses take time and can get frustrating, especially in the first year.

If your online store is lonely, and you’re watching the dust balls collect, waiting for traffic to come and buy, it’s easy to get discouraged. As soon as the advertising ends, so does your traffic – if you’re even getting any results from your advertising at all.

What if you could get visitors to your website – free? And, not only that, but the visitors keep coming for years? One of the best methods of generating traffic to your website is by writing and sharing articles. This is not ‘get rich quick’ and it’s not a scam. It’s just plain old fashioned marketing with a twist.

Now, even if you aren’t a writer, you can use this method of getting traffic. It doesn’t take a degree in Literature to succeed in article marketing. All it takes is a little time and energy. If you have that – you can get traffic to your website.

So, how does it work? Well, it’s working right now. Look at the bottom of this article and you’ll see … me. I didn’t pay for this advertising, but you’ll see a link to my website right there, plain as day, just for writing and sharing this article with website publishers.

It’s actually quite simple, and it is underused, especially in work at home mom businesses.

All you need to do is write a short, simple, helpful article about something related to your online store. If you sell makeup, then write an article about how to choose a foundation color, or how to care for your skin during the winter. Then, after you’ve written your article, you submit it to the article directories.

Article directories are libraries of free articles. They are collections of articles that website and blog owners can use on their sites for free. The only stipulation is that everyone who publishes your article must include your author bio at the end which is where you include your website URL and some fascinating information about your wonderful online store.

So, now that you see how simple this free method of generating traffic is, I hope you give it a try. You’ve got nothing to lose and much to gain.

Nicole Dean doesn’t pay for advertising – ever. She uses Article Marketing to get free advertising on websites and in newsletters worldwide. You can use articles to get free traffic, too. Visit http://www.EasyArticleMarketing.com to find out how.

An increasing number of website and business owners are turning toward a new approach to advertising and, best of all, it’s free. Article marketing, as it is technically known among webmasters, is achieved by translating expertise into a written article and effectively promoting it across the web. This can be achieved by the use of blogs, content directories and direct agreements with webmasters to publish your article in exchange for a link back to your website.

Article marketing is somewhat new in its technique, but is very effective if done properly. Free publicity is achieved as the article circulates more and more across the web. If you post your article to content directories, other webmasters may pick up your article and post it to their website with the only requirement being proper credit for the work. At the end of the article, the author’s name is shown, along with their business name and a direct link to their website. As the work circulates onto new sites, more customers will have the opportunity to read the article. If it is interesting and successfully grabs their attention, they will be likely to visit your site in search of more information.

The key to successful article marketing and free publicity for your website is to possess a certain amount of knowledge about your subject. Your expertise will show through in the work that you do and will entice others to want to read more. By sharing what you know with others, customers will respect you and appreciate your willingness to help. For instance, if you operate a home improvement website, perhaps you would write an article detailing some home improvement tips. Try to avoid the commonly known hints and direct your article toward lesser known tips. If you share the rare information that you know, and it works, customers will be so happy with the new tips that they have learned and your business will be given instant credentials in their mind.

The best part of article marketing is the fact that it is free and it generates free publicity for your website. Once you get a new website up and running, you will still have to find a way to spread the word about your new venture. By enlisting the article marketing technique, you will be saving a lot of money on advertising costs. Print publications and other conventional advertising methods can end up costing a bundle of cash and, since many new businesses struggle just to stay afloat in the beginning, it’s a good idea to save as much as you can.

A final thought about article marketing and free publicity for your website is to make sure that your articles are informative, thought provoking and rich in keywords relating to the topic of your website or service. The articles should reflect your website or service in some way and should always be relevant to the product that you are selling.

As the publisher of an article directory, I see this all the time: writers and other marketers who are so desperate to get their promotional seen they really don't think about how they are marketing, where they are marketing, or who they are marketing to.

As an article writer myself, who has gone from almost no listings at all in the last year in Google, to over 46,000, I'd like to give you a little insight into to how you can get your articles read and seen so that get you the traffic and sales you are looking for.

1. Target your market
This should be obvious. If you're writing articles about real estate, find sites that accept articles on real estate. Find directories that accept articles on real estate. Then your article is more likely to get accepted.

Some article writers assume, wrongly, because a certain type of article is related to a subject, that article will be published on a certain type of site.

Not so. It's a good idea to explore the content of a site before submitting, unless it's a general article directory. This will tell you whether this article is a good fit or not.

2. Don't submit an ad or a press release
I get this one a lot. My question to people like this is, "What makes you think I'll publish your ad?"

I pay for my web hosting, domains, and all the other expenses incurred in running an online business. Why should I help you? Why do I have to waste my time deleting your junk from my site?

I'm a writer and then a marketer, but in the case of site content, I'm a marketer first. I want top notch content on my site. Good articles. Articles that will help my readers. The best way to help my readers is to publish articles that are related to my topic.

Now, if the site does publish ads and press releases, by all means, submit. However, make sure that you have properly targeted your market. Website publishers are busy people, and it only takes a second to hit that delete key.

3. Make your article interesting
One of the first things I learned in journalism school is to translate technical material into plain language so that readers can understand it.

The same applies with articles. If you use a term that is unfamiliar, explain it in the body of your article. Don't send your readers on a wild goose chase trying to figure out what you mean.

Make your article easy to understand.

Use short words, short paragraphs, and short sentences. If you've ever read a newspaper, or "Time" magazine, or even a romance novel, you'll find out that these are written on about a seventh grade level.

This is so that readers can get through the material quickly. It's easy to understand.

4. Don't use HTML to format your article unless the publisher specifically says you can.
One of Article Directory does all of the HTML formatting for the writer. Therefore, when the writer uses HTML in the formatting, those characters show up. I either have to remove the HTML or delete the article. The article almost always gets deleted unless I really want the article on my site. Then the writer gets a personal email.

5. Check your work
Now I will be the first to admit that I am guilty of this one.

I write at the speed of light and type at the speed of sound. This means that I'm thinking faster than I can get the words down on paper. This can quickly make a mess of my articles.

The easiest way around this one is to read your article out loud. This forces you to slow down. You'll catch a lot of your grammar and punctuation mistakes, and smooth the flow of your writing.

Give your links one last check to make sure they work, and you're ready to go.

If you want to get more mileage from your articles, the best way to do this is to target your market, write a good article, and give your reader information that is helpful, interesting, and easy to understand.

You'll maximize your listings in the search engines and multiply your traffic and sales exponentially.

One very useful approach you can adopt when preparing to write an article is creating an outline first. Creating an outline for your article helps direct your writing. You start with an idea and structure its development by making a plan for the major points . This makes the job easier and faster and you are less likely to overlook key matters.

An outline acts as the design or blueprint for your article. It will guide you in creating the introduction, body and conclusion of your article. For each point, you can write down some of the ideas and sentences that you feel will benefit your article. These can be some of the key supporting points that will help your article look more creative, interesting and appealing to a reader.

A carefully planned and prepared approach will ensure fewer problems. Creating an outline for all your articles will help to generate ideas and overcome "writer's block". Here are a few tips and hints for doing this.

First, do a bit of brainstorming and jot down possibly relevant ideas as they come to you. Don't worry about criticising these ideas at this stage; just jot them down. Also, consider some of the areas that would likely be of concern to your readers. Allow enough time to write down the ideas that you can use for your articles. Once you have done your research, review your ideas and all your notes; gain sufficient familiarity with your topic that writing later and expanding on the points will be easy for you.

The next step is to discover your sub topic and sub titles. Provide a first sentence for your article, one that will immediately grab the attention of your reader. You will need some as well for your sub topics. To be concise and balanced, gather the facts that support your point, as well as those opposed.

This is the frame or skeleton of your article. Now it's time to add the flesh and the meat. You will need to connect all your paragraphs and sub topics. This will form the body of your article.

While the introduction will usher in the ideas of your paragraph, you will need a conclusion. This will wrap up your points and deliver the essence of your argument.

The outline for your article will also benefit if you write a draft first. This may take more than one attempt but remember that it is called a draft for a reason. Your outline is perfected as each draft is written and, as the draft is meant for your eyes only, so there’s no reason to feel ashamed and inhibited. As you go on, you will more clearly see the bigger picture and be able to describe it better.

Read and reread what you have written. Constantly refer to your outline so that you don't drift away from what you had planned. It's hard not to be caught in the moment and get lost in a writing frenzy. Your outline will help keep you on track. All those hours spent preparing the outline will not go to waste.

You've done it through junior high; expanded it through high school, then in college built articles into chapters. No matter how many times a person has done it, writing articles can be a task many would rather avoid. Now at a time when it could help you in your job or work, facing the task can be like facing the enemy. What sets successful writers apart are the preparation, methods and procedures they use.

This article will serve as a useful guide for you. Trust and rely on your outline because it will prove to be a very helpful tool when you do.

With the increasing cost of advertising, it is getting very hard to find targeted free or low cost traffic.

A great method is by writing articles for traffic and letting websites and ezine publishers reprint them including your resource box which includes a link back to your website. Website and ezine owners need constant fresh content to publish. A great way to build one way back links to your website and increase branding.

Getting started

Decide on relevant keywords. You could use software, like clickadequalizer from www.clickadequalizer.com, this software finds alternative keywords, the number searches for that keyword as well as the amount of competition. Try to find keyword with high number of searches and low competition. You could also use www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion which is a free tool.

Do some research on the topic you wish to write about. Read some books and search the internet for information. Information for ideas and increase your understanding of the subject, so that you can put it into your unique thoughts.

Get some ideas for your article with some brainstorming, as thoughts come to you write them down. It does not need to be in any order or make sense, as you are only collecting your ideas. This will give you a starting point for some topics to include in your article.

A very important part of your article is the title, it should be catchy so that people will read it and will improve your chances of been published. Try incorporating your most important keyword or phrase into the title.

The ideal length of article is between 300 to 850 words.

If don’t have the time or feel writing is not for you, then you could hire a ghost writer who will write an article. A ghost writer is a writer that will write content for you, this material remains is your own.

The next step is to submit to article directories. You could login to each directory one at a time or use a service like submityourarticle.com, which cost $37.00 per month.

You should aim at submiting a new article once a fortnight or month.

You can find major article directories using your favorite search engine, try typing in “article directory”. Signup to them and submit your articles.

The number of incoming links to your site is major factor in determining search engine ranking. One way links are the most important and can cost $40 or more per link. Writing free articles you can get hundreds or even thousand or these links free.

Best of luck
