The mid-size Chevrolet Malibu sedan has been completely redesigned for 2008. New proportions and very handsome, attractive styling inside and out give the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu a more upscale appearance, while a newly available 252-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 and six-speed automatic--optional on the top LTZ model--brings newfound refinement.
The more popular engine choice for the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu lineup is the economical 169-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which is rated at a frugal 22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and comes only with a smooth-shifting four-speed automatic transmission. Performance is good enough with the four-cylinder, but if you plan to haul full loads or take on mountain passes, you may be wishing for the V-6, which is very responsive and much more refined than the V-6 in the previous Malibu. Three models grace the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu lineup: the base LS, midrange LT, and luxury-laden LTZ. The LS includes power accessories, keyless entry, and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, while LTZ models get plenty of noteworthy features such as remote start, automatic climate control, a universal remote, and power-adjustable pedals, plus a number of appearance extras like LED taillamps and interior ambient lighting. An integrated Bluetooth hands-free calling interface isn't offered; there's no screen-based satellite navigation system available, either. But OnStar turn-by-turn navigation is included in addition to the other emergency and concierge services OnStar provides. The Malibu comes with a one-year subscription, but after that the owner must pay a fee. Safety is a strong point for the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu; it's earned the top five-star rating in all of the federal government's crash tests, along with top Good ratings from the insurance industry in frontal offset and side tests. Front side thorax airbags and side curtain bags that cover front and rear occupants are standard, plus anti-lock brakes. Electronic stability control is standard on all but the base Malibu LS. The Bottom Line: After years of being a second-stage alternative, the Malibu is a legitimate contender for best-in-class. © Source: thecarconnection We need your comments below >> You've waited long enough, so let's dispense with the pleasantries and get right down to the hard facts.

Based on the Sport version and distinguished by the traditional red colour, the two hundred Fiat 500 specials are fitted with the lively 1.4 6v 100 bhp engine and offer specific tuning and exhaust in perfect harmony with the sporty spirit of the prancing horse: these two features are designed and made by Magneti Marelli, a leading components company in the Fiat Group which has supplied high-tech parts to Fiat and Ferrari for years. The same sporty theme can also be found in some aesthetic details such as the red calipers, sporty pedal set, special black steering wheel with red stitching and 16 alloy wheels with 195/45 tyres.Compared to the already richly equipped Sport version, the Fiat 500 customised for Ferrari also has automatic climate control, electric sunroof, prestigious Frau leather interior, hi-fi, fog lights, numbered plate on the dashboard and Limited Edition wording on the kick plate. The Ferrari network will thus be able to offer its customers a special car where the choice of every detail is the result of meticulous care and craftsmanship. Chevrolet's ongoing American Revolution came to NHRA Pro Stock with the introduction of the Chevy Cobalt at Bristol Dragway on April 29, 2005. It didn't take long for the new Chevy to earn a place in the NHRA record book. On June 18, 2005, Kurt Johnson qualified his ACDelco Cobalt in the No. 1 spot at the K&N Filters Super Nationals in Englishtown, N.J. One week later, Johnson put his Cobalt in the winner's circle at the Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals in Madison, Ill. In 2007, Chevy Cobalt drivers combined for seven victories in 12 final-round appearances, with Dave Connolly finishing third in the final Pro Stock standings and Johnson finishing fifth. During this initial design phase, NHRA officials mandated more than 20 minimum dimensions for the construction of Pro Stock cars, including the new Cobalt. The new specifications covered such areas as the height and width of the car, the front and rear overhangs and other critical dimensions. The production version of the Cobalt provided a solid foundation for GM Racing engineers to begin the planning and construction of the Pro Stock version. Extensive research was conducted in the GM wind tunnel in Warren, Mich., evaluating various greenhouse shapes, decks, roofs and fender flares to determine the most aerodynamically efficient design. GM Racing engineers had two objectives for the Cobalt program: The first was to create a one-piece body, or unibody, that would make it more efficient for chassis builders to mount and work with, and for the NHRA Technical Department to inspect. The second was to reduce the weight of the body while maintaining its stiffness, strength and structural integrity. After the molds were completed, Five Star created a Cobalt body that was sent back to Ness Racecraft, where it was mounted on a chassis. NHRA inspectors again went through the process of checking dimensions, and at this point the templates were made. © Source: seriouswheels We need your comments below >> (from General Motors Press Release) Both Pro Stocker Greg Anderson and Funny Car driver Tony Pedregon must like the view from the top as each followed up their Norwalk (Ohio) wins with No. 1 qualifiers for tomorrow’s eliminations at the 29th annual NHRA Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway. Anderson drove his Summit Racing Pontiac to both ends of the Bandimere Speedway Pro Stock record with a track-record elapsed time of 7.010 at a track-record speed of 196.10 mph to edge fellow Pontiac driver Mike Edwards. It was the points leader’s third No. 1 qualifier of the season and the 65th of his illustrious career.
“We learned a lot here last week testing and it’s just paying off this weekend. But it just amazes me, some of the teams tested out here, some of the teams didn’t, you have completely different conditions that we won’t see again all year, and still you have four or five hundredths from top to bottom. The class is amazing right now, so to come out on top on a Saturday night or a Sunday night feels pretty doggone good because this class is definitely tougher than it’s ever been. It’s going to be a battle tomorrow and the winner is going to feel better after this one.” Bandimere Speedway, set in the mountains just outside of Denver, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and many of the drivers, including Anderson, are impressed with the all-new concrete surface and the continuous improvements being made to the mile-high facility. Anderson led a trio of Pontiacs in the top four in qualifying as Mike Edwards placed his Young Life/Penhall Pontiac GXP in the No. 2 position with a 7.021 e.t. at 195.62 mph, and Greg Stanfield qualified his Pontiac in the fourth qualifying position. Ironically, both drivers were also under the old Bandimere Speedway elapsed time record. Stanfield drove his Attitude Apparel Pontiac GXP to the No. 4 qualifying position with an elapsed time of 7.031 seconds at 195.31 mph. © Source: seriouswheels We need your comments below >> Bettering the original Euro was always going to be a challenge, after all it’s still a very contemporary looking and highly relevant car. But fortunately for us resting on its laurels isn’t something Honda does and from where I stand, that can only be a good thing.
Dimensionally bigger in almost every direction AccordEuro encapsulates a sporty yet elegant stance with an assertive front end drawing sharper angles and crisp crease lines to a point from its flowing, progressively up swept profile, kind of like a well ironed shirt. The athletically wider track further highlights Euro’s slightly shorter stance and perhaps best of all the rear end is endowed with a softer finish that is more dignified and less boy-racer than the predecessor, again a very good thing. Inside Honda’s commitment to above average material use and arrangement is clearly evident as are the comfortable ergonomics, tech-savvy equipment levels, sassy appearance and generous proportions. The leather clad heated memory seats offer an elevated level of comfort over those of Euro’s nearest competitors as well as providing decent support and a lovely welcoming feel, which is a refreshing change from the often brash, cheaper leather trims found in so many rivals. The DOHC, 16-valve power plant has been revised slightly for the new model and now incorporates larger valves, recalibrated VTEC mapping, reduced back pressure and a slightly higher compression ratio (from 10.5 to 11.0:1) to deliver a lissome 148kW at 7000rpm. Best of all with an ample 230Nm of torque on hand at 4200 revs, power delivery is better managed, more linear and impressively smoother than even I thought possible - kudos Honda. Economy has also improved from what was already considered a class leader with combined figures this time round of 8.9 litres per 100km (ADR). Around town expect mid 9.0 litres whilst on the open road high 5.0L/100km suggests even more is possible through careful driving - and a more run in engine. Considering Accord Euro now weighs in at a hefty 1605kgs these figures speak for themselves and when the 2.2-litre turbo diesel arrives in 2010, Euro is certain to be a world beater. Starting from $32,990 - $1000 less than the predecessor - the Japanese built Accord Euro is a dead set steal for the money and given the function, application, appearance and purpose is pretty hard to pass up. © Source: caradvice We need your comments below >> The new RAV4 SR180 brings both sporting performance and high value to Toyota’s compact SUV range, a model that ably combines spirited on-road driving, contemporary good looks and the kind of off-road ability that more than meets the demands of most motorists.
Positioned to command a price advantage against its main market rivals, the RAV4 SR180 is exclusively powered by Toyota’s advanced 175bhp (177 DIN hp) D-4D diesel engine, mated to a slick six-speed manual transmission. With 400Nm of torque on tap, it is a formidable performer and can move from rest to 62mph in 9.3 seconds. Its pulling power is matched by respectable fuel consumption of 40.4mpg (official combined cycle figure) and carbon dioxide emissions of 185g/km – Band E for Vehicle Excise Duty.Building on the specification of the RAV4 XT-R, the SR180 is distinguished by its 18-inch alloys housed in bold, extended wheelarches. Run-flat tyre technology means there is no need to house a spare. Dark-tinted headlamps further distinguish the model from its stablemates. The list of standard features also includes Integrated Active Drive, which combines Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control and Hill Start Assist, Bluetooth connectivity, dark-tinted rear privacy glass, front fog lamps, six-speaker sound system with six-CD autochanger, cruise control, electric sunroof and rear parking sensors. On sale now, the new RAV4 SR180 has an on-the-road price of £23,045. © Source: luxist We need your comments below >> For Jaguar to truly stay alive under its new India owners, Tata, it needs to revitalise its entire range and the large XJ sedan, rooted in the past, needs a complete make over. That’s just what is coming and these photographs by our spy photographers show a mule testing the car that will radically replace the currently very staid Jaguar XJ sometime in 2009.
The best information on the new Jaguar XJ, which will echo the recently released XF sedan, but in an even more radical shape, has come from English car magazine Autocar , which obtained considerable inside information from sources who have been shown a full size model of the new Jaguar XJ. The new generation Jaguar XJ will bring a welcome shift in design for the next XJ, which desperately needs a more muscular look to match its athletic moves. The present iteration has an extremely capable chassis, but its interior and exterior designs are stuck in the past. The next-generation car will still use the current XJ sedan’s aluminium underpinnings, but it will gain more modern lines conceived under the supervision of Jaguar design chief Ian Callum. Autocar’s information says that when the crucial vehicle, codenamed X351, begins production in late 2009, it will rock the luxury market. According to sources Jaguar thinks the new XJ could be pitched against cars as wide ranging as the Mercedes-Benz CLS, Maserati Quattroporte and even the Bentley Flying Spur. Pricing for the top-end model could break through the $250,000 barrier. Although the lightweight aluminium chassis of the current Jaguar XJ will be carried over, the car’s upper structure has been redesigned. This has allowed Jaguar’s design team to design a car with a coupe-like flowing roofline. Aside from a low roof and high tail combination, the new car is said to have a narrower nose than the Jaguar C-XF, with narrower headlights (likely to be LED units), although it retains the large, square grille that made its debut on the Jaguar C-XF. One proposal is for the grille’s mesh to be made up of hundreds of tiny Jaguar ‘leaper’ cutouts. © Source: caradvice We need your comments below >> Audi, with the current interest surrounding its brand, is preparing itself with the lovely A5, adding the letters “RS” and reflecting the masterpieces that have recently emerged from the German company, such as the RS4, the R8 or the V10 RS6.
The challenge to the M3 is far more explicit now, with both V8 high revs, coupès and twin-clutch shift, but the true revolution is in the traction with BMW choosing rear wheel, and Audi splashing out into all-wheel drive. The RS should be more sincere but radical, compared to an S, and the lowered body, 20-inch wheels and nasty looking air intakes attest to this. While on one hand the overall mass increases, on the other the weight decreases through an intelligent use of alluminium and magnesium. This should see about 50 kg saved, keeping weight to 1580 kg. Among the options offered will be a carbon-ceramic braking system. Intelligent suspension has been included, along with launch-control and rear sports differential will be coupled with the all-wheel drive, achieving greater driving feel. Autozeitung anticipates that that at the heart of the vehicle will be a V8 4.2 FSI engine, completely updated with direct injection system, reaching about 470 hp. All of this should guarantee the RS5 performance in line with the future M3 CSL, but at a lower price. © Source: seriouswheels We need your comments below >> Bugs, bangers and the world’s lowest Volkswagen campervan – the three day ‘Bug Jam’ Volkswagen festival has roared into life. The announcement comes amid upcoming legislation in Europe and the U.S. which is pushing manufacturers towards more CO2 friendly cars.
The European Commission will need all German auto-manufacturers to reduce their average fleet emissions from 178 grams per kilometre to 138 g/km by 2012. Those that fail to meet the target wilo pay hefty fines. “All our vehicles will have turbocharged engines in series production by the end of 2010 at the latest,” Thomas Weber, Daimler board member responsible for research and development saidTurbocharging petrol cars has till recently been a speciality of Japanese manufacturers, but demand for forced induction is growing as it provides a relatively cheap way to reduce fuel consumption without a performance loss. Well, Clarkson may soon be eating his own words with the Mercedes flagship sedan expected to be offered as a full hybrid vehicle by end of 2009! Adding some show to the go, Volvo has reportedly created a C30 prototype fitted with a turbocharged inline-5 pumping out 350 horsepower using the Ford Focus RS engine block as a base.
Best of all, it would be able fully put down all that power combined with Volvo's AWD system, unlike the FWD system on the Focus RS. The new Spider J6 3.2 C is Autodelta’s no-compromise interpretation of the stunning Alfa Spider, which collected the prestigious accolade of ‘Cabrio of the Year’ upon its launch at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show. It is Autodelta’s second bespoke model to be based on the exciting ‘new generation’ of Alfa Romeo models, and its market arrival follows the very successful launch of the Autodelta Brera J5 3.2 C just over a year ago. The Autodelta Spider J6 3.2 C once again redefines the company’s pursuit of the maximum performance and driving pleasure to be drawn from Alfa Romeo’s production models, and is the culmination of more than a year’s intense research and development as well as engineering innovation. It evolves from the Brera J5 3.2 C programme, however, it offers new specification in areas pertaining to a convertible sports car as well as unique and individual styling cues.Engine Glorious, powerful, responsive – the V6 engine is at the heart of Alfa Romeo’s sporting ambitions. But time simply doesn’t stand still, and after three decades one of the most beloved automotive masterpieces, the ‘Arese V6’, has given way to an all-new 3.2-litre V6 engine which brings with it fresh challenges for Autodelta’s engineering team. Twenty years experience developing Alfa Romeos has enabled our engineers to take this new unit and utilise a carefully developed integral supercharging system. First seen on the Brera J5 3.2 C which debuted last autumn, this highly potent package now finds its way under the bonnet of the Spider J6 3.2 C. At the heart of the robust yet lightweight, no compromise integrated supercharging system is the C30-94 unit supplied by Technical Partner, Rotrex. This unit is considered to be the most responsive supercharger available today, noted for its durability, light weight and compact format. It is already performance-proven having been used in supercars such as the world record breaking Koenigsegg CCR. From a standard power output of 260 bhp @ 6,300 rpm and maximum torque of 322 Nm @ 4,500 rpm, the Spider J6’s V6 engine to now turns out 348 bhp (an increase of 88 bhp) and 430 Nm of torque (an extra 108 Nm), all delivered in a useable, responsive and smooth manner. The Autodelta Spider J6 3.2 C races from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62.5 mph) in a highly impressive 5.4 seconds (standard model: 7.0 seconds), while it hits a top speed of 260 km/h (161 mph); compared to the standard model’s 239 km/h (149 mph). © Source: seriouswheels We need your comments below >> There will be a whole list of additional features for the WRX, including a new model (called Impreza GT) as well as a power boost for the manual WRX. Although, given the Ralliart Lancer is expected to be powered by the EVO X engine and have nearly 200kW of power, we suspect Subaru may be preparing for a showdown. The standard manual transmission models will also feature a new suspension system as well as an STI-type front grille.
