I just saw the People Mag article today. and was pretty impressed. I
didnt think it was all that short. considering that magazine isnt
exactly known for its in depth reporting! It was weird because not only was there a pic of Ren whom i "know" (ok. more like looked at her from across the room at the L&L
conference! But to my family i say "hey look!") but there
was also an article about Mary Lynn Rajskub ("Chloe" on 24). whom i
also "know" (went to high school with her. did plays together. i even
have a picture of her eating bad ice cream in the Ukraine. and in front
of the Berlin Wall from a school trip)....it was like the People
Reunion Issue. Weird. Its that whole six degrees of separation thing.

Hollywood actress ANGELINA JOLIE has slammed criticism she stole BRAD
PITT from his ex-wife JENNIFER ANISTON. insisting she could never be
with an unfaithful man.
The MR AND MRS SMITH star. who is pregnant with her and Pitt's first

Aniston to be with her last year (05).
And now she is defending their relationship. claiming that Pitt and
Aniston had already split when she and Pitt became a couple.
"I wouldn't be attracted to a man who would cheat on his
wife. "But I've grown too much to be hurt by what people's opinions of
my love live is. That doesn't hurt me.
"I don't read the gossip - although it is never nice when the world
feels entitled to an opinion about your family."

Did Ang use the line that Pitt's been known to use. the
"there is suffering in Africa and a war in Iraq and you just want to
talk about this nonsense? when you shoot your People Mag photo

I read somewhere that Paula Abdul has had a rare medical disorder (not
these but something similar to lupus or arthritis I believe) that
causes a list of symptoms. mainly pain. Is this true or is it a ploy to
cover up some addiction problems? I believe the story that I read was
in a reputable news magazine. Was she involved in a car accident that
caused back probelms? What is true and what is not?
I forget how it happened. but she WAS injured years ago and has had
cronic back pain for many years. She was on meds. etc. and there is a
name for the cronic pain she has been in. I forget what it's called.
Recently. they said she had had a new surgery and her pain was
gone.
I don't believe it was a ploy. She was a cheerleader and dancer and
having an injury would not be uncommon if she over did it.

but they're using it (and her).
especially the "nice" one.
You have to wonder if she's got an addiction and it's being covered up
by saying she has an illness.

What is true and what is not?

PAULA Abdul is being accused of concocting a story to cover up being

altercation between Jim Lefkowitz and Paula Abdul at Xenii last Sunday

at an unfortunate incident." A rep said Abdul was unavailable for

Nasty confrontation between NICK LACHEY and soon-to-be-ex JESSICA

Sushi Roku in Santa Monica. Nick. who'd been lunching with a pal. was
paying his tab at the counter when Joe walked up and. according to an
eyewitness. hissed that he'd never get half of everything in the
divorce settlement! Nick told bother-in-law to mind his own business.
The source says Joe snarled: "You'll get half over my dead body!"
Embarrassed and angry.
I bet he thought he was pretty slick.
Won't this leave Jessica with nothing? If Nick get's half and her pimp
gets the other half she'll be broke.

Another senseless gun tragedy. Good to see at least the killers may be
brought to justice. but that's cold comfort when his daughter gets old
enough to understand what happened.
The article says the car helped nab the suspects. but doesn't say how.
Presumably the suspects were found in the car or otherwise tied to it. But
it looked like jacking the car was the goal in the original crime and why
Pough was shot. So the real answer is that it was the donated car that got
him killed.
Bo Raxo

"What the Republicans need is 50 Jack Abramoffs. Then this becomes a
different town." Grover Norquist. PHILADELPHIA - A car donated to a young father who gained national attention
through a People magazine profile helped nab two men suspected of killing
him. the two suspects were charged with murder. theft and related
counts in the fatal shooting of Terrell Pough. who was gunned down
outside his home on Nov. 17.
Police said one of the men knew Pough from school. but they didn't identify
a specific motive. "There was some kind of dispute. but we don't know what
it was." Chief Inspector Joseph Fox said.
The magazine profile in August brought Pough support that included donations
for rent and a car to get to work.
A night manager at a fast-food restaurant. Pough worked long hours to finish
school and support his 2-year-old daughter. The magazine honored Pough as an outstanding father in a four-page profile
in August. In it. he was quoted as saying: "If something ever happens to me. Pough attended a charter school in North Philadelphia. where he was learning
construction skills. He was slated to graduate in June.
It could not be immediately determined if either of the suspects - Antoine
Riggins. both of Philadelphia - had attorneys.

I pulled away from doing a lot of eBay around 2003. hardly anyone charged much of a handling
charge.
The great trait. was to keep the shipping charge about
as close to the actual charge. and pay for packing materials.
I have seen that this has drastically changed. I imagine some person
started teaching people to get money from the customer from handling.
probably in one of those "make money on eBay" courses or books. A bad
trend.
Would a $100 handling charge be unreasonable for someone who is
selling a refrigerator? Or something heavy? What about their time. to take their items to the post office? These are all
handling charges. how can ebay "control" that ?
I don't think that reasonable handling charges are at issue. it's the
excessive ones. Your example of the fridge definitely would be a case for
special consideration. Sending a CD would not. I sold a guitar once and
charged for the special packing materials. which were reasonable and
necessary for transporting it.
On the other hand. I know someone who bought a camera on eBay and they paid
a handling fee. When the camera was received. it was send in the original
retail box with a priority mail label on the top. About $6 of shipping
costs cost the buyer $20.
Bidders have the right (and responsibility in the extreme cases) not to bid
on items with ridiculous fees. or to look at the combined costs and only bid
up to that amount. taking into consideration the fees if they have the have
the item 'that' badly.
I do my shipping at lunch or on my way to/from work. and I wouldn't think of charging for it.

you have to have a separate.
I don't know how you got that I was arguing for some restrictions by eBay on
sellers. I am not. I was stating that some sellers take advantage. or
attempt to take advantage of charges outside of the bid and shipping amount.
Yes. taken out of context. crazy or sane. But
you know the listing that I'm referring to. In this listing. the seller was
trying to preserve his margin by ensuring the fees covered the cost and
probably the profit as well. I pity the foolish bidder than bid more that
$0.01. It is a form of deceptive selling... I'm sure someone out there will
say it is not. but if I were a buyer I would steer clear.
the buyer has a responsibility to read in detail everything in a
listing. So if they are taken advantage of. shame on them. But it's also a
bad reflection on the eBay selling community when there are sellers out
there charging excessive amounts for handling. I think I even made that
point when I said:

I do my shipping at lunch or on my way to/from work. and I wouldn't think of charging for it.

I do my shipping at lunch or on my way to/from work. and I wouldn't think of charging for it.

I have a question for everyone: is Inside Edition a decent newsmagazine or
is it sensationalistic? Deborah Norville is the host. IIRC. Not sure if I
ever watched it.
One of the mothers of Teddy's DI siblings and I have been asked to appear on
the show. ostensibly to publicize the Donor Sibling Registry that matches up
donor offspring with siblings.
I distrust the medium. to put it mildly. On the other hand. they'd fly us
to NYC and put us up. None of us have ever gone before. Might be cool.
And we do want to publicize the DSR. Media attention for the DSR invariably
brings a shower of new matches for people.
On the other hand. our story is complicated because of the siblings' autism.
And we ARE country rubes (although we don't live in trailers or anything).
Plus I have *zero* desire to appear on television. A friend always said
that shows like Jerry Springer were nothing but "poking dumb animals with a
stick." Is that Inside Edition. And would we be the dumb animals?
I think Inside Edition is like a lay man's Entertainment Tonight. So.
it's not news show but more entertainment. I'd love to see you on TV!
I have never seen it. but I don't think its sensationalistic. I think
it'd be worthwhile to consider it. as long as they wouldn't put your
child on television for his own right to privacy.

I think it's more like People magazine. It has stories that help make
it legit but still have a little J-Lo and Brittany thrown in for good
measure.

I am the QUEEN of celebrity gossip and gossip shows and I always have
considered Inside Edition to be trash TV. It doesn't even show around
here until the wee hours of the morning. Seriously. you are WAY
above that show! Hold out for Oprah!
Britney Spears is making me sick! She must have a deal with People
Mag. b/c every little thing is front page with her. She is just
disgusting. There has not been one nice photo of her pf. Now there is a
child I would pity. born to be a toy for a washed out "star".

There was a NICE piece on Inside Edition JUST yesterday about a man who
was in CARGO LARGO in Independence. MO taking pictures (Upskirting) of
girls under their skirts. Nice. Showed his mug shot and told the public to watch what they did when
wearing skirts (duh!) because this is becoming a very common practice.

I would never voluntarily go on TV...but you ARE promoting DSR! It
would be a great and wonderful thing!
Oh Megan I could not agree more. We always say that's what happens
when you give trailer trash money. you have rich trailer trash. She
just turns my stomach upside down. I feel so sorry for that baby. And
for the two children Kevin already has. How very sad for them.

DSR is such an important subject I would say that getting that message
out would certainly be worth it. We have a friend who appeared on the
Dr. Laura show when it was the vogue of the moment. and her programs
really benefitted from the publicity.
The only concern I would have it making sure your child's picture isn't
put on t.v. not that you don't have every right to show off that
gorgeous little face. but just for privacy concerns.
I had never watched it until yesterday when I was sitting in the hospital
with Henry and nothing to do but watch TV. It is nothing like Jerry
Springer. Not that it is high-end journalism. but it is quite a few steps
above that tripe. I would expect the story to be one of those
"heartwarming" human interest features that pop up every so often. I think
it would be OK.

but I also wouldn't allow my child's face to be shown on
television in that story. Right now. your son is young. so his donor
story feels like its "your" story. In a few years. it will be more
"his" story and he may not want people to know or be very comfortable
with it. I liken it to adopted children who often shut out the idea of
being adopted during middle childhood because they don't like to "feel
different." The same kid who at 2 might tell his donor or adoption
story to strangers happily often becomes quite closed mouthed about the
story at 8 or 9. I would err on the side of privacy. especially on a
potentially controversial subject.

It's hard sometimes to have your child's face on out in the public like
that. Some people prefer not to place their children in position. The
publicity is sometimes hard on children.

Beth. I come from the perspective of the mother of an 8
year old who is pretty closed mouthed about being adopted. Not from a
shameful standpoint. since we've always been very open about it and he
has pics of his birth parents. but from the perspective that he
has reached an age where being different in any way is bothersome to
him. At least that's what I think it is...he is just not one to talk
about his feelings. I think that people manage to be forthcoming and
open about their stories without necessarily putting the story in the
newspaper or on tv...in other words. that certainly isn't a required
choice to not send the message that anything is shameful. I think it's
an open choice. as long as there is mindfulness of how the child may
end up viewing things differently from the parents eventually. It has
amazed me (and yes. even disappointed me) that my son is not as gung-ho
on the subject of adoption as I am. I certainly never would have
expected that a few years ago.
I am curious as to why his brother was relieved to learn he was a DI
child. That actually doesn't sound like a good thing at all. At first
read. it sounds like he was somehow glad to realize that he was not
biologically related to the father who had been raising him. Hopefully
there is a happier reason for his relief?

And still is. True. she and William weathered a brief wobble a year ago
when. "like any relationship. they had their ups and
downs. They needed a bit of breathing space." But the details were
never blabbed--least of all by Kate. "She doesn't speak to anyone about
their relationship. It's between the two of them." says a friend of

Both girls are unfit for the role of princesses and possible queens
consort (wifes of people in high positions in the line of succession).
After great royal consorts such as Queen Alexandra. Queen
Elizabeth the late Queen Mother and Prince Philip we cannot have girls
of this sort marrying into the Royal Family.
By the way. also proved unfit for the role and. Princess of Wales. was also a complete disaster.
especially after the separation (in several of her actions. such as her
Panorama interview. she deliberately attempted to harm the institution
of the monarchy).
In spite of the success story of the late Queen Mother and the fact
that the Countess of Wessex seems to be doing fine in her role. I still
believe that an equal marriage. although not required by law. is the
best solution. Princesses from a noble. raised in a
traditional environment. who can cope with the role of the monarchy and
with the pressure of being in the spotlight.
When will the learn that a marriage settled by the State with a foreign
princess of a reigning or deposed European Royal House is the best
solution? The Ministers of the Crown should be in charge of this.
after the british prince and the foreign princess realized that
they were stuck with each other for life. even if agaist their personal
wishes. then love and mutual respect would surface. They would try to
get along and to live a happy life.

By the way believe I am not the only one in this forum to think that
marriage to a foreign princess is the best solution.
I simply do not have this fairytale mentality according to which every
kind of girl. irrespective of their actions or their background. is fit
to marry into the Royal Family. I am well aware. of contrary
opinions.

The current Prince of Wales had little if any interest in foreign
Princesses.
His sons have the same attitude and that is what counts at the end of
the day.
No one can dismiss Katherine Middleton and Chelsy Davie out of hand as
there isn't enough information to go on and what is there is not
necessarily reliable.

Has anyone spotted Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban together? I would be
keen to talk to anyone who may have additional info to what has already
appeared in the NY Post & People Mag / Who weekly publications. Here is
what has been revealed on Brisbane radio in recent days:
- the owner of Woodstock's Elijah's Cafe Kurt Robair told Marnie
Titheradge at Brisbane radio station 973FM that after Keith Urban &
Nicole Kidman bought their "takeout" Urban left a "generous tip".
- Frank Spada who owns Woodstock's wholesale produce outlet. told Laurel Edwards at Brisbane radio station 4KQ that Nicole
had been seen last week getting onto the back of a motorbike in
Woodstock. Frank was not too sure who the male bike rider was (we think
it was Keith);
- the Woodstock store (that I am told knows when all the big stars are
in town). House & Son Hardware Store would not answer my question when
asked if they had seen Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban. "I'm sorry I can
not answer that." Asked again: "So. you have seen them". Reply: "I'm
sorry I can't answer that."
- the Woodstock girl who took the Nicole / Keith photo for People / Who
Magazine (Time Warner bought the pics) would not comment to me about
the photos.
Keith Urban was born & breed here in Brisbane - and thus. and I am keen
to receive any correspondence from anyone with info about Nicole &
Keith.

I heard Johnno mention it on SNC last week. When I posted the info on
Keith's message board up here in the US on CMT. his fans attacked me
like rabid dogs and said it was gossip and he has another girl friend.
They were so mad. my post was deleted. There have been several threads
posted that they are just friends and nothing serious. They then
attacked me on another board. Keith's fans up here are not very nice
and are quite rude.
I then saw the same message posted on my hero. Outback
Club message boards today that they were an 'item'. Why it appeared
there is a mystery to me. but I know Lee and Keith go back a long way
so maybe he heard it from Keith and SteveJW posted it. Have no idea.
I'm a VERY proud and devoted fan of LK (his #1 fan in the US) and
member of his Outback Club.
it still seems to be a rumor and it sounds like
Keith's fans don't want to hear it (especially since Kenny Chesney and
Renee Zellweger got married). You might want to go to the CMT message
boards and see what his fans are saying and check out the gossip here
in the US.
so rarely go over to KU's boards unless I give
them info they may not know about. They were so rude that I'm not
going to give them any info anymore. like when Keith is on with SNC.
They're just gonna have to miss him.
I believe KU was born in New Zealand and reared in Caboolture. I think
his parents have a store there.
p.s. - I'd concentrate on that beautiful boy from the bush. legend and great role model. The USA loves him.
According to Urbans publist. They are ONLY friends... He said "Urbans
girlfriend would not appreciate him dating Nicole.":

I don't care who he's dating. I just wish he'd stop putting out boring
songs that all sound the same. Jangly guitar. bland singing style
(lately. forgettable melodies.
I agree - I also think he's vocally challenged. Anyway. I'm spoiled
with Lee who I think is the most incredible country artist there is -
with interesting songs. great stories and no two sound alike. Clever
lyrics. wonderful arrangements. What more could you ask for?
He actually said he and Niki Taylor broke up over a year ago. Most
Nashville reports have him dating some petite brunette.
But Kris Kristofferson told John Nutting on Saturday Night Country that
Keith had asked him to borrow his Hawaiian estate for a roundevous with
his girlfriend. who was "more famous" than him. Nutting than said KK
said it was Nicole Kidman.

I heard it there too and then saw the same thing posted on Lee
Kernaghan's Outback Club because they're both aussies.

I saw a few minutes of Keith Urban with John Fogerty on the CMT
Crossroads series. I never cared for John Fogerty all that much to
begin with. and now it seems he's lost his voice.
for some reason the country music industry insists that
we pay homage to second rate rock and pop stars.

This genetic influence on mystical and religious leaning has been reported
in the popular press recently - the above is just one cite.
And other studies. that I'm too lazy to try to find. have shown that
mystical and religious feelings are mediated by specific brain regions. So
the genetic influence makes sense as do the changes found in people with
brain injuries in that specific brain region.
So no matter how you raise your children. be
predisposed to mystical or religious leanings once they are away from
parental influence. Some of us have no neurological basis for mysticism;
some of us do. Now we. need to learn tolerance for both kinds of
folks without condoning fanaticism or violence.

Number Of Iraq Casualties Is Double Official Figures.Says Puerto
Rican Government
Jesus Davila. Official US. government reports on soldiers under US command killed in
Iraq are so fragmented that they account for less than half of the
total number. according to information uncovered as part of an inquiry
by the Government of Puerto Rico regarding the total number of Puerto
Rican war casualties.
This analysis was confirmed by El Diario/La Prensa's review of
multiple documents. including official reports issued by the US
Department of Defense. the Iraqi Ministry of the Interior and more
than 230 battlefront reports. which reveal that more than 4.076 troops
under US command have been killed in 799 days of battle.
This information contrasts markedly with the limited information on
casualties generally issued by US military authorities. which focus
only on US uniformed troops. These total 1. Military affairs expert Jorge Rodr'guez Beruff. from the University of
Puerto Rico said that the figures showing more than 4. far from winning the war in Iraq. "what is happening is
that the troops are being worn down." He said that traditional
theorists calculate that for an armed invading force to win a
guerrilla war. its casualties should be one to ten of its enemy's. In
this case. that would require 40.000 casualties among the insurgents.
In addition. warned that the reports should be
reviewed on an ongoing basis. as he suspects that the number of
casualties is even higher.
Calculations are even more difficult when it comes to the wounded.
which US authorities number at more than 12. and medical
discharges -- those maimed or suffering from physical and mental
injuries -- about whom only partial reports can be obtained. In this
category. large discrepancies in counts have been publicized by news
outlets such as the national German Press Agency (DPA). which ran a
story reporting on US Army documents putting the number of US soldiers
with war-related mental ailments at 100. That issue is more controversial. The Argentine press agency
Argenpress reported about 17.000 unreported cases of war-related
mental illness. But no matter the scenario. the numbers of wounded and
medical discharges are larger than those officially announced. as is
the case with casualties.
The figures came to light in the course of an ongoing investigation
that El Diario/La Prensa is making on the number of Puerto Rican and
Hispanic casualties in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. That inquiry
prompted Congressman Jos' Serrano (D-NY) and An'bal Acevedo Vil' then
Resident Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. to request a
full casualty report. which yielded a partial list with 200 Puerto
Rican losses. including casualties. wounded and medical discharges.
After his election as Governor. Acevedo Vil' renewed his request to
the Department of Defense for a total and specific accounting. but as
of press time he had yet to receive an answer.
According to documents reviewed by this paper.649 fatalities among US uniformed troops. there were 88 from Great
Britain. 92 from other coalition member countries. 238 reported by
private contractors.000 from members of the Iraqi
Army. The biggest defect in published counts is the missing casualties
among Iraqi troops under command of the occupying forces.

A SINGLE bombmaker using high-grade military explosives is believed to
be responsible for building the four devices that killed more than 50
people last week. The Times can reveal.
Similar components from the explosive devices have been found at all
four murder sites. leading detectives to believe that each of the 10lb
rucksack bombs was the work of one man. They also believe that the
materials used were not home made but sophisticated military
explosives. possibly smuggled into Britain from the Balkans.
"The nature of the explosives appears to be military. which is very
worrying." said Superintendent Christophe Chaboud. the chief of the
French anti-terrorist police. who was in London to help Scotland Yard.
... But the investigation received a serious setback when it was
discovered the CCTV cameras on the bus that blew up were not working
[?] so detectives will not get vital images of the bomber. One
senior Yard source said: "It's a big blow and a disappointment. If the
cameras had been running we would have had pin-sharp close-up pictures
of the person who carried out this atrocity. "We don't know if the
driver forgot to switch them on or if there was a technical problem
but there are no images." The bus had four cameras - one covering
people getting on. the second at the exit doors and one on each deck
scanning the length of the vehicle.

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has consistently rejected any
contention that the Army is stretched too thin in fighting
simultaneous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But a new Army
study has concluded the service is so strained that the U.S. will soon
"need to decide what military capabilities the Army should have and
what risks may be prudent to assume."
Numerous critics and outside defense policy groups have warned that
the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan has taxed the Army so badly that
it will have difficulty meeting any new crises elsewhere. but the new
assessment comes from an in-house undertaking prepared by the RAND
Corp.'s Arroyo Center. the Army's federally funded research institute.
"The challenge the Army faces is profound." senior RAND analyst Lynn
Davis. lead author of the report. said in a statement accompanying the
study. "Any approach is fraught with risks and uncertainties. along
with significant costs and some possible changes in the Army's
long-term goals."
Even as the Army was studying the report. it announced Monday that it
is augmenting its troop strength in Afghanistan this month with a
battalion of the 82nd Airborne Division that just returned from Iraq
in March. And the Army's latest monthly recruitment figures released
Monday show the service and its reserve components likely will not
meet recruitment goals for this fiscal year.
The report--"Stretched Thin: Army Forces for Sustained
Operations"--was to have been released Monday. but a RAND spokeswoman
said it had been postponed to allow "further review" by the Army.
Nonetheless. Davis indicated the report raises significant questions
about the Army's future and the burdens the Pentagon and taxpayers
will have to bear to field adequate forces.
The study further calls into question the Pentagon's ability to carry
out its policy of maintaining the capacity to fight two major regional
wars simultaneously while also providing troops for national security
at home and the war on terrorism.
This policy is being re-evaluated as the Pentagon prepares its
congressionally mandated Quadrennial Defense Review--a four-year
survey of the military's status. strategies and needs that
must be submitted in February.
According to the RAND study. the strain on the Army is so great that
combat units are spending one of every two years deployed on overseas
battlefields. instead of one of every three years. as called for in
troop deployment guidelines.
These frequent absences from the U.S. and the exposure to combat not
only have a negative effect on recruiting but interfere with the
Army's ability to train troops in new skills or have them available to
deal with contingencies elsewhere.
The RAND report is expected to detail some possible solutions. though
each carries a price. One would be increased use of the Army National
Guard. though that service has been experiencing serious recruiting
problems. and Guard units are supposed to be deployed overseas no more
than one year out of six.
Another would be expanding the number of brigades in the Army and
reserves. though that would cost billions of dollars beyond current
appropriations.
On the recruiting front. with only three months to go in fiscal 2005.
the Army is 40 percent short of its goal of recruiting about 80.000
new troops for the year. To meet that threshold. it would have to
exceed its recruiting goals by an average of 2.600 individuals in each
month.
In June it exceeded its monthly goal by 507 recruits--and the goal was
just 5. the second-lowest total for the year. The Army
failed to meet its recruiting goals in each of the preceding four
months.

OVERALL PURPOSE
Potent insights into the coup d'tat we face emerge whenever citizens
working on Iraq lies. stolen elections and/or the
"missing" government trillions gather and compare notes. This DC
Emergency Truth Convergence presumes that we now have enough dangerous
truths. and populist media to deliver the evidence of
treachery throughout the land. It's now time to clarify that vision.
join with veterans and victim families. and assist media activists
everywhere in reenacting Paul Revere.
70% of Karl Rove's red voters still believed
Saddam had WMD and trysts with Al Qaeda. 70% of Americans who knew the
truth voted blue. According to Zogby. most New Yorkers reject the
official 9/11 story. The blues carried New York by over one million
votes and NYC by 81%. Do the math. Truth matters. Truth matters more
when the country's in crisis. Truth matters most when thousands are
dying without a clue.
This is the challenge facing our independent media. Leaders selling
war. repression and corporate rule could fool a lot less people a lot
less of the time if indie media flooded the streets and airwaves with
badly needed truths. Today's bloody liars are red. Tomorrow's may be
blue. Only grassroots media vigilance and collaboration can thwart
their propaganda and reverse their corporate coup. George Orwell
taught us. "in a time of universal deceit. telling the truth is a
revolutionary act." Multiply that act by a thousand street zines. and community broadcast outlets and we can finally overthrow
this coup.
Please come to DC and

Still on the war-horse Ike? You're obsession with fighting us conspiracy
nuts borders on psychopathic. If what we conspriacy nuts think is truly
nuts. why are you spending so much time refuting us? Are you that freaked
out by us? Hope to see you there. I'll bring along some print-outs of my favorite
misdirections written by you in this group. I'll post 'em on a placard
somewhere. and when you see them. you can introduce yourself as the author.

"Mr. Yost could have come with me today as I visited one of my own
military buddies. who like most officers doesn't leave the protected
Green Zone compound except by helicopter or massive convoy.
It's astonishing that Mark Yost. from the distance and safety of St.
Paul. presumes to know what's going on in Iraq. He knows
the reporting of hundreds of brave journalists. presumably including
his own Knight Ridder colleagues Hannah Allam and Tom Lassetter. is
bad because his Marine colonel buddy tells him so.
Yost asks why you don't read about progress being made in the power
grid. which the colonel oversaw. Maybe it's because there is no
progress. Iraqis currently have electricity for an average of nine
hours a day. A year ago. they averaged 10 hours of electricity.
Iraq's oil production is still below pre-war levels. The unemployment
rate is between 30 percent and 40 percent. New cases of hepatitis have
doubled over the rate of 2002. largely because of problems with
getting clean drinking water and disposing of sewage.
The "unfiltered news" Yost gets from his military friends is in fact
filtered by their isolation in the Green Zone and on American military
bases from the Iraqi population. an isolation made necessary by the
ferocity of the insurgency. To say that isn't to argue that their
perspective is invalid. It's just limited and incomplete.
Knight Ridder's Baghdad bureau chief. has read Mark
Yost's column. Her response. says it far better than I
could:
"It saddens me to read Mark Yost's editorial in the Pioneer Press. the
Knight Ridder paper that hired me as a rookie reporter and taught me
valuable lessons in life and journalism during the four years I spent
there before heading to Iraq.
"I invite Mr. Yost to spend a week in our Baghdad bureau. where he can
see our Iraqi staff members' toothbrushes lined up in the bathroom
because they have no running water at home. I frequently find them
camping out in the office overnight because electricity is still only
sporadic in their sweltering neighborhoods. despite what I'm sure are
the best-intentioned efforts of people like his Marine buddy working
on the electrical grid.
"Mr. Yost could have come with me today as I visited one of my own
military buddies. who like most officers doesn't leave the protected
Green Zone compound except by helicopter or massive convoy. The Army
official picked me up in his air-conditioned Explorer. took me to
Burger King for lunch and showed me photos of the family he misses so
terribly. The official is a great guy. and like so many other
soldiers. it's not politics that blind him from seeing the real Iraq.
"The compound's maze of tall blast wall and miles of concertina wire
obscure the view. too. Mr. Yost can listen to our bureau's morning
planning meetings. where we orchestrate a trip to buy bottled water
(the tap water is contaminated. when it works) as if we're plotting a
military operation. I wonder whether he prefers riding in the first
car - the most exposed to shrapnel and bullets - or the chase car.
which is designed to act as a buffer between us and potential
kidnappers.
"Perhaps Mr. Yost would be moved by our office's tribute wall to
Yasser Salihee. our brave and wonderful colleague. who at age 30
joined the ranks of Iraqi civilians shot to death by American
soldiers. Mr. Yost would have appreciated one of Yasser's last stories
- a rare good-news piece about humanitarian aid reaching the holy city
of Najaf.
"Mr. Yost's contention that 14 of Iraq's 18 provinces are stable is
pure fantasy. On his visit to Baghdad. he can check that by chatting
with our resident British security consultant. who every day receives
a province-by-province breakdown of the roadside bombs.
assassinations and other violence throughout the country.
"If Baghdad is too far for Mr. Yost to travel (and I don't blame him.
given the treacherous airport road to reach our fortress-like hotel).
why not just head to Oklahoma? he can meet my former Iraqi
translator. and her young son. They're rebuilding their
lives under political asylum after insurgents in Baghdad followed
Ban's family home one night and gunned down her 4-year-old daughter.
her husband and her elderly mother in law.
"Freshly painted schools and a new desalination plant might add up to
"mission accomplished" for some people. Too bad Ban's daughter never
got to enjoy those fruits of her liberation."

"I think those of us who served in Iraq have an obligation to speak
out. You're not getting the truth back here." he said. "The situation
is not going to improve until the US military leaves."
A war without enough equipment. under commanders who consider
civilians the enemy. an Iraq War veteran sounds like a Vietnam War
veteran.
Talk about deja vu all over again: Here was a fed-up veteran recalling
being sent into war without enough military equipment. under troop
commanders who considered civilians the enemy. But 26-year-old Patrick
Resta wasn't talking about Vietnam. He was relating his experiences
with an Army National Guard unit in Iraq.
An organizer for Iraq Veterans Against the War. Resta is making the
rounds of churches. campuses and peace demonstrations that Vietnam
vets trod three decades ago. In a recent talk at the Unitarian Church
of Montclair. Resta noted his fledgling group is a new version of
Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW). So here in the hometown of
Yogi Berra. the grand master of baffled bemusement. I sat in amazement
in the front row. recalling uttering similar sentiments. as a VVAW
organizer. as many of us did at his age. is conducting a mission to bring
his buddies home alive and end the war they are waging before it
consumes America. He is seeking the help of his countrymen.
"I think those of us who served in Iraq have an obligation to speak
out. You're not getting the truth back here." he said. "The situation
is not going to improve until the US military leaves."
As church members gathered around him and his wife after his talk.
Resta was equally blunt about his personal life. There are experiences
that haunt him. But there's a six-month wait at the VA. even
to be evaluated for post-traumatic stress. His therapy at the moment
consists of organizing other disillusioned vets. speaking wherever he
can find an audience. and writing a book. From my experience. Six years before he was born. Resta's current condition of anguish was
described by Robert Jay Lifton in his 1973 landmark study of war
veterans. which has just been reissued as Home from the War: Learning
from Vietnam Veterans. 'Wars give rise to wars.' Lifton wrote in the
preface to the new edition. 'But there is a more personal and primal
connection between veterans of Vietnam and Iraq: they are literally
fathers and sons or fathers and daughters. Vietnam veterans'may have
little difficulty accepting the oppositional sentiments and warrior
disillusionment of their children. That sharing of an antiwar survivor
mission can indeed be a powerful bond.'
Hard to believe it's been nearly 35 years since Lifton. who was well
known for his study of survivors of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
accepted a request from an unknown veteran to help address both 'the
severe psychological problems of many Vietnam veterans' and 'the
military policy of the war which results in war crimes and veterans'
nightmares.' as I wrote in a 1970 letter quoted in his book. Of the
dozens of vets and mental health professionals who created a self-help
project that pioneered ways to cope with an unnamed nemesis that got
named post-traumatic stress. imagined our
children would face a similarly ugly war.
Patrick Resta's antiwar campaigning can be checked out in a Google
search and on the Iraq Veterans Against the War website. He and his
buddies are looking to end a nightmare in Iraq and in their lives. To
that end. they are seeking forums to speak to people who don't shy
from hearing harsh truths. Vietnam vets. and every one else. "As democracy is perfected. the office of president

if he leaves the band. needs to take Joao with him. Joao has
always been the one in the band I found the most interesting (he has VERY
interesting background and parentage) and after last night. my suspicion
that he's got chops was proven correct. And he's funny and snarky too! 2. Cons is probably signed to Sony or Columbia. The promoter guy was
wearing a Sony badge and there's been a bazillion other things that point to
Sony. I'm still holding out a slim hope that he's actually signed to
Columbia. rather than directly to Sony for various reasons. but whatevah.
They're a Sony child (there's what. 4 real labels out there? but at least
he wouldn't have sworn blood oath to the Godfather himself.
3. I think perhaps there might be some listening to fans and critics
occuring regarding PftSoB. He was seriously trying out new vocal
arrangements and things last night. Ad libbing or preplanned. I don't know.
But there was a LOT more 'interesting voice' and a lot less 'generic rawker
scream' going on. and in EXACTLY the right ratio. It was the best Betty I'd
ever heard. (Now. if they become less tribute band and more original. I may
just drink the koolaid because they are each talented musicians and I've
never been one who was anti-rock-Cons.) I actually spent some time the
other day discussing him with a guy who has been in some semi-famous bands
and is still very active on the indie scene and he was all OVER Cons' voice
as a good rock voice. but just not the kind of rock that they were able to
clear for AI and not quite what Betty has been doing. That's something I
keep seeing echoed everywhere amongst a lot of indie rockers regarding him
too.*
4. Fantastic performance. Just fun as hell to watch. Saying Cons knows
how to work a crowd is sort of like saying the sky is blue. He was
seriously channelling Plant. without
actually copying or 'acting' any of them. He just had that sorta throwback
ambiguously sexy frontman vibe goin' on that those guys had/have. It was
honestly the most natural performance I have ever seen him give. cause he said he was really nervous and then went out
and was all 'Cool Cat'. Anyway. rumour has it we'll get a show in
Detroit... There should also be one on the 21st in the NJ/NY area as well
if anyone's out that way. Oh Rodney Bingenheimer came to the club just to
introduce the band! How fucking cool is THAT? Rodney is just...wow. A
*really* good friend to have. to say the least. There was another brief
interview on KROQ between the set and the afterparty too.
TV Guide Channel and various other news outlets were there.
so whoever promoted it. it was also very very sanctioned. And on that note.
the 19E handler was still present as well. there are like honestly what. 4 real labels out there if
that. but it's still interesting. Half the reason I noodle at this stuff is
because I'd love to know the legalities of what's occuring. More and more
I'm thinking Cons has an absolute CRACK team of lawyers in his court.
Rumour has it Cons incorporated himself as Constantine Maroulis
Entertainment to get the band gigs throughout the summer following the AI
tour a la RENT. and get out from under the restrictions which are placed
upon him at the current time. He and his team are just smart. I'm happy with how things are turning out. It really looks
like he's going to get his chance at this point. and now it's up to him to
sink or swim. That horrible horrible look in his eyes on Black Wednesday is
slowly being erased by all the good fortune. And if I never see anyone look
like that again. it will be too damn soon. Gah.
* This whole cred thing is wierd. I'm seeing from the 'big.
established' bands that Bo and Cons threw out their cred on AI. But the
indie guys? They're all rooting for 'em. And the old school musicians seem
to respect them as well. Willie. etc. It's very
interesting to see really. and speaks volumes about the 'corporate rock'
situation IMHO.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have posed together as husband and wife in a
family portrait for a magazine.
The pictures show the Hollywood stars. who are allegedly romancing after
falling for each other on the set of their new movie 'Mr & Mrs Smith'.
posing as the perfect 1960s American husband and wife.
Brad and Angelina are seen lounging in a garden while 'their' three children
splash in a pool for the 60 page spread to promote their forthcoming film in
America's W magazine.
Earlier this week. who have vehemently denied they are
dating. refused to be photographed together at the 'Mr & Mrs Smith'
premiere.
The couple maintained a noticeable distance throughout in a bid to draw
attention away from their rumoured relationship.
Despite arriving in separate cars at the Los Angeles premiere. Brad refused
to confirm or deny rumours about the pair's relationship.

People mag reports nothing was going on. they did not look like they
were romancing each other. they looked professional.
Anyways the movie is already upon us. no need to hide if they were in
fact hiding any sort of relationship.
Aside from the movie filmings itself. I have not seen anything at all
which might lead me to believe they are in any sort of romantic
relationship.
What possible purpose could it serve to sneak around to hotel rooms as
has been suggested by Page Six this week? Its patently absurd to think they would try to hide their romance if
there was one. Backlash from Aniston fans? The movie is
a success. People tell their friends and no one is going to boycott
because of a Jen backlash.
Just plain nonsense if you ask me.
Time for everyone to get on with their lives. to move on to bigger and
better things. and for Jen to go on Oprah and tell the world how she
feels about Brad. To answer those last nagging questions as it were.
Will they reunite?

she was telling me I smelled and needed to take a shower [they both
laugh]
how did you tell Kevin you were pregnant:
spermdonor: over the phone
permaperoxide:Over the phone? I thought [they talk privately]We were
here in LA and I had done several tests because I was expecting
something. I just told him. We were really excited.
They swear they don't know the sex of the baby. he swears it wasn't an
accident (I bet) He wants to go away to a private island that has the
best doctors in the world and not have to see anybody. (For the baby
not him)
They truly ceeement their place in white trash history. I pity that
baby. maybe a miracle will occur and they will turn out to be decent
parents.
The final quote from boobeny: As the pregnancy progresses she feels
they're growing together. I'm not sure if she means her and the
donor. her and the baby or her and her mother who is doing the nursery
all by herself with no input from either parent.

that is what we were talking about today. How nice it is
to have a friend close by with a pen who understands what the hell you
are talking about. I think everyone needs one of those. Why do they
need to write things down? sometimes it is nice to take
notes. it makes things easier to understand. Lakshmni (my communication
officer) writes everything down because she says I go too fast if she
doesn't and she can't remember the details. and all that. Its not
always necessary. but it helps her to understand what I am saying. to get the info correctly. They on the other
hand will just talk through her like she was Tom Cruise or something on
occasion if she is chanelling/being mused/being angel prompted.
And I don't bother to write anything down well except here. I suppose
this counts.
Rarely will look anything up. but a couple times a year. I will reach
back into the archives for something I wrote.

ET has confirmed that Oscar?-winning actress REN'E ZELLWEGER and country
star KENNY CHESNEY have tied the knot! The surprising couple were married on
Monday on the beautiful island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands where
the singer has a home. In a short. 15-minute ceremony. performed by a female
preacher in front of a small group of family and friends. the bride wore
CAROLINA HERRERA. one of her favorite designers. while the groom was
reportedly barefoot. Both laughed and cried during the ceremony.
The happy couple met at the Concert of Hope tsunami relief effort on January
15 and maintained a quiet friendship that quickly blossomed. The marriage is
a first for both stars. although the 37-year-old Kenny broke off an
engagement in 1999 three weeks before the wedding. Prior to marrying Kenny.
Renee dated WHITE STRIPES singer JACK WHITE and her 'Me. Myself & Irene'
co-star JIM CARREY. A spokesperson for Ren'e had no comment about the
proceedings.

It's kind of strange because People mag just reported this week that
her rep said they are in the "very early stages of getting to know each
other"....

Jack White now has another pretense to go on a berserk drunken rage.
I'll bet he's a big Kenny Chesney fan.

Renee & Kenny are both (or sure do seem. anyway) so down-to-earth and
cool as human beings. They have so many things in common I can easily
see how they hit it off. Both have struggled finding a compatible
companion while swimming around in goldfish bowls alone. And both are
smart enought to leave US out of their private lives.
I'm a big Renee fan and am thrilled to see her finally so ecstatic.
Some people really do know it when they see and feel it. And by the
way. why does she even need an engagement ring? My husband and I have
simple bands and are proud that our love has absolutely nothing to do
with his or my wealth. or lack thereof. I think a simple band says a
whole lot more than a 8 carat shiny ring........and my husband's bald
too!
I bet Renee and Kenny will be very very happy together and wish them
the best. Well done.

a goodwill ambassador for the UN
Refugee Agency. said Saturday that Pakistani plans to relocate refugee
camps from Pakistan to Afghanistan would not help the Afghans living in
them.
" Jolie told reporters at a
press conference when asked to comment on remarks made by Pakistan
President Pervez Musharraf about relocating the camps.
Musharraf told the Hollywood star Friday of his proposals to push
UN-maintained camps in Pakistan over the border back into Afghanistan.
the foreign ministry said. but did not say why Pakistan wanted to move
the camps.
"The president reiterated the proposal that... rather than the UNHCR
maintaining refugees camps in Pakistan. along the border areas. these
should be relocated within Afghanistan." a foreign ministry statement
said.
Moving the refugees camps in certain areas of Pakistan to Afghanistan
would add to people's suffering. Jolie said. Many of those in the
camps had been living there for years.
The Oscar-winning US actress has been in Pakistan since Wednesday on a
four-day mission to focus world attention on the plight of more than
three million Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
A joint Pakistan-UN census Monday said more than three million Afghans
were still sheltering in Pakistan 25 years after war forced them to
flee their native land.
Islamabad has so far repatriated 2.3 million Afghans under a three-way
agreement between the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
(UNHCR). Pakistan and Afghanistan.
But many have made new lives for themselves in Pakistan and show little
desire to return to Afghanistan.
Well dear I think it is a matter of trying to force the US to accept
more responsibility for the maintenance of the camps. 12 dollars per
year per person in aid. is not sufficient. How can these people survive
on that?
Pakistan itself had to apply for loans from the World Bank this year to
help cover the cost of maintaining security in the region. They just
can't afford the extra cost of security having potential Al Qaeda in
the camps as has been discussed by the US over the last two years. They
have been asking for Pervez to maintain a high level of security and to
search for possible AlQaeda terrorists living across the border into
Pakistan. so from his perspective the problem would be easier to solve
if he could just send the refugees back across the border. Then it
would be a US and NATO problem. and they can easily afford more than 12
million dollars per year to care for these people.
I agree they need more eductaion services in order to become self
sufficient. Maybe the peace corp can help with that.

By being there Tish and doing what you are doing. you are helping to
make a big difference in people's lives. It takes very little for
people back home to make a difference and the world has a
responsibility to Afghanistan. We can't just free the people. then
leave them to starve. I think that through universities in North
America and Europe. young people could be encouraged to spend even just
a few months there. working with the people. teaching them some basic
skills. to help them find ways to earn a living. Through agriculture.
or small industry.
And the pipeline as well. will need manpower and that will bring
economic prosperity.

There is a street dance here at 10:30 AM as part of our community
spirit revitalization plan but after reading this story.
I thought she did an interview for Vanity a couple weekends ago. where
she said she had two lovers neither of which were Brad and that she had
asked her her lawyers to send words to Mr. and Mras Aniston that she
was not a shoulder for Brad to cry on? What really happened? Bad casting that dead journalists wife? Must keep
that one secret I guess. Or was it his assistant? The one who
coincidentally looks like Angelina?
I can keep posting this all day. If you have something to
say. why not make your own post instead of editing mine? May 7 2005 3:42 pm

Brad casting that dead journalists wife?
Sounds like too much bool shhhh going on if you ask me. OMG did he
escape? And with his bad heart and all?
Bad casting that dead journalists wife?
So we will keep our eyes open for the refugee fund raising conference
or whatever and then the conference between India and Pakistan. and then the Asian conference regarding the pipeline through
the Stans. and see what we can do about relocating some refugees and
providing some labor for the pipeline and public work projects and see
about some eductational training. maybe the peace corp. and they will
need some sort of economic development plan for the World Bank.
No oil for you people in India now. No. you have angered me. and now
you shall have no oil when the pipeline goes through. And all those
lucrative telephone software support jobs. that have brought so much
wealth to your country. you will be replaced by a website. No. there is
no point apologizing.
And thanks to the military today. for doing that air show over our
Sunday community jam session picnic here.
one of those quick deployment units we discussed in Dec? the helicopter. Obviously you were trying to get our/my
attention and I haven't had a chance to see what that was about yet. as
we are just now going back to work. to
get everyone up to speed. Then we will be going a bit slower than we
were before Christmas as well. Tish is driving. so we will just give
her a chance to get comfortable. and to do things at her own pace.
Also OZ and you know who. and the Muhabeans and all that. I am sure you
can see how professional they are. Within 36 minutes everyone had
scattered and it looked like one of those scenes from a movie where the
walls turn around and hide the gambling tables or something. lol
