BigFishComics - LiveJournal.com Mon, 25 Feb 2008 01:14:25 +0100 On January 13th I added...
I like Turtles Crabs I'll probably throw another one in there in a bit...maybe about cupcakes. Anyway, they're pretty so-so. I think I've lost all sense of creativity since graduating college and subjecting myself to the painfully dull lifestyle of the 40-hour work week...maybe even earlier than that. Anyway I actually updated the "About" section of the site yesterday: http://www.bigfishcomic.com/About.htm I also recently started a part-time job blogging for $5 a blog on a video game peer-review/social networking site that just launched last month called vgviews.com and I just got an email to write video game reviews for another small anime/video game review site called animetique.com for $10 a review and free subscription to gamefly to rent games. I suppose if I ever decide to go into the editorial business of video games, these will help me in the future. For now, it's still great resume fodder and I will be enjoying the gamefly subscription - I can finally rent all the games I've wanted to play but refuse to buy! I've been actively on the job search again and so far I've had 1 phone interview with EA for marketing assistant, 1 phone interview with Nintendo for marketing manager, 1 phone interview with Activision for marketing associate, and 1 in person interview with hands on mobile for brand manager. I got a flat-out NO from Nintendo, I'm waiting for a NO confirmation from EA and Hands on Mobile, and I have to follow-up with Activision tomorrow. I hope Activision works out...it'd be for Guitar Hero!! ...but things aren't looking so good after recent trip to the career pavilion at GDC and talking to all the recruiters, I get the impression I really need that MBA. 090307-Hungry? 090307-Grandma's B-Day 090307-Sad Goodbyes bet you didn't know that, did you? Sun, 29 Jul 2007 04:40:59 +0200 BFC finally updates with:
Shake your money maker I am hungry I like the second more than the first but they're still only mediocre. The second one was going to involve many more panels ending in the apple attacking a village of starving men but how it ended up isn't bad. I would like to keep BFC on my resume so I figured I should update it like, once a month. Wed, 13 Jun 2007 00:53:19 +0200 BFC Update:
Dark Secrets At first I wanted to make something involving a fake sailor moon shooting a super love beaaaam~!! but it was too hard to draw. Anyway...I got a job. yaaaaaaay! I am the ad sales assistant for gametrailers.com! They hardly pay me but I don't care because I have a job now and my health insurance won't run out at the end of the year! I also got an interview for Goodby, Silverstein and Partners. yay!! Mon, 11 Jun 2007 22:39:02 +0200 I'm going to start reviewing stuff on this blog for some extra money because I have no shame and am unemployed. I brought back some of the old updates to fit this blog into some post word update minimum guideline thing that some of the sites require. So far I've hit up 3 sites:
http://www.sponsoredreviews.com/ http://payperpost.com/ http://www.blogitive.com/ I'm probably going to just use the first one because I read some review on paid to review blog sites and somebody suggested sponsored reviews as the best option. Also, payperpost has this retarded widget thing that you have to stick into your blog's body tags to get everything working and I can't edit body tags on livejournal so...fuck that. The first review you can do for payperpost is also just a review about how "awesome" their stupid widget is for about $10 after they look over your review. No. That widget is gay and I refuse to use it. blogitive and sponsored review I haven't really decided are any good or not yet because I just signed up and they need to review this blog to see how much traffic it gets (not much) and other random things like that to see what advertisers would be interested in using me for their guerilla marketing. I also have to see what sort of offers both sites end up giving me and figure out what sorts of things I wouldn't mind writing reviews about for some extra pocket money. I figure this is a good opportunity to improve my writing skills and add extra fluff to my resume. You know, "By the way potential employer, did I tell you I made a webcomic that I run on a site I built by myself that also comes with a blog where I write reviews for money? No? Oh. Well. I do." I'll probably throw up a comic later this week too since I haven't made one in a while. I just haven't been having very random thoughts lately. It's mostly just "omgz I need me a job for munnies~!!" Fri, 25 May 2007 07:30:23 +0200 BFC update:
Traffic Accident Fish Thief The first one would probably have been better as two comics. The first being a man getting stuck in dragon-traffic and the second being the super awesome dragon traffic fighting accident but I was too lazy to make two so it's just one fast one. The second is a bit hard to follow because the panels are unclear but it'd be too hard to restructure so you get the basic picture. I think these two are pretty so-so. I haven't really liked any of them so far except for that absorption one. On the job front, outside magazine didn't hire me but they actually told me why which was nice. They found somebody else with a year's experience in a similiar position and a prior internship at a magazine. Ideally, Gametrailers.com would hire me as they're the only position I actually bother to follow up on or I guess if I can get that PR assistant/communications associate position internally at wells fargo. Charles chocolates in emeryville seemed like they might hire me for a marketing internship but that only pays 300/mo for 40hrs/week. Goodby Silverstein & Partners emailed me for more info which is pretty good too I guess. Gametrailers.com, ftw! That graduation breakfast my work made me attend had horrible food but I managed to get my resume to the greater bay region marketing manager to try and help me get that PR job. Hopefully he didn't just toss my resume in the trash on the way out. I sent a follow-up email just in case. Oh and for the complete lack of effort I've been putting into my last semester of school, my grades have been turning out pretty awesome. So far one A and two B+'s. My teacher accidentally gave me a D because she didn't grade my final paper but she emailed me my real grade today and the correction notice to the dept. Good times. ...now if only people would read my webcomic and give me money. Well, that or if I could only get a job that gave me money. Sun, 13 May 2007 19:06:24 +0200 BFC update:
wiimote+nunchuck4eva Chicken Butt meh. I like the second one better than the first but neither of them are that great. I think there's something wrong with the xml script for the comic page but I'm too lazy to find it right now. It might just be me anyway. ...looking for a job actually doesn't suck as much anymore. It's weird though because the comic is on my resume and some of them are actually start to check out the comic. One of the dudes from hotornot.com was reading this very journal before my interview. (le gasp.) My co-worker told me to go to that interview in a push-up bra and a mini skirt since I figured it would be a room full of nothing but dudes (it actually was a room full of nothing but dudes) but pfft, like that would actually have worked. (I wonder...) I was so tempted to look them up on facebook and tell their punk asses to hire me via that facebook messaging system but that's probably more creepy than inspiring to pick me. Now I've got an interview with outside magazine on tuesday and gametrailers.com on wednesday. Too bad all my interviews never call me back. The gametrailers woman said my website was cute though...so did that toy thing in the oakland hills. Er, they thought it was cute that I named it hireme. Oh, and I've decided to put in my two weeks this thursday regardless of if I find a job or not. It'll just be much easier to quit if I do actually have one. edit: I forgot to mention. My stupid Narcocorrido I made for Chicano Music Studies to avoid writing a paper landed an A for the course despite my Failed midterm and lack of class participation. My thing for Asian Americans in Film did pretty well when they showed it in class too. There was a lot of "aww" and "haha" and then "WTF?!" Mon, 30 Apr 2007 00:19:36 +0200 BFC is no longer on any sort of regular update schedule. Maybe once I get my life back in order it will be.
So what's new on BFC: Wrong Person Absorption I like the second one a lot more than the first. Random thoughts actually take some effort to put together. It's the oddest thing. Oh but I finally managed to buy myself a wii. Be my friend: 7995 1604 5445 4800 and then tell me what the purpose of friends on the wii are. I also bought Zelda which is the bomb-digity so far. The only bad part is I suck at the whole thinking up how to do stuff. You have no idea how long it took me to steal that basket back from that damn monkey. Sun, 15 Apr 2007 22:41:24 +0200 Sun, 08 Apr 2007 22:47:52 +0200 BFC is going to be a bunch of completely unrelated random comics.
...I just need to re-upload an about page, probably change the support page to nothing but a donation button and banner links, draw some comics...and um, I think that's it. bye. Sun, 01 Apr 2007 23:00:08 +0200 I got me some pearl earrings in the mail:
which finishes up the stuff I got for linking to this here blog. um, I've also been forgetting to mention that the DrunkDuck BigFishComic Site was pimped out a while ago but the template is LAX right now. LAX has the BFC one though so eh, just swap. I put my resume up on careerbuilder and I got two things for interviews but I don't trust that they're actual jobs just because the response time was so much faster on careerbuilder than when I use Caljobs but since it's a weekend, I figure I'll just call them both on monday. Ugh. I want my spring break back. Thu, 29 Mar 2007 01:05:25 +0200 I keep forgetting to put this up but teenagewaste86 otherwise known as Fern on DrunkDuck bought a fishy shirt.
BEHOLD A COMPLETE STRANGER WEARING THE SHIRT: ![]() ...and the bright happy bathroom. Now follow his lead and proceed to get ripped off by Cafepress. GO FORTH! Sun, 04 Mar 2007 21:09:32 +0100 Things are looking up. I wrote a paper which I was too lazy to turn in and emailed to my professor instead...hope that works out. I also watched Pan's Labrynth which I didn't know was in Spanish and was also kinda thriller movie scary at parts. The ending was nowhere near as depressing as everybody made it seem and the whole movie kind of reminded me of Alice in Wonderland or something when you just think the little girl is just crazy or if she really is seeing crazy things. I ate my some Todai and Denny's and I bought a plane ticket to PAX.
And now, for some slickdeal offers of interest to me: some dove cream oil sample: http://www.dovecreamoil.com/ some secret deoderant sample: https://secretclinicalstrength.offerprocessingcenter.com/Offer.aspx and aquafresh toothpaste sample: http://www.aquafresh.com/registration.promo and McDonald's is doing some buy one get one free stuff: http://i.slickdeals.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=32231&d=1173012880 Sat, 03 Mar 2007 08:35:30 +0100 Reviews on Supplements
....good thing nobody really reads this webcomic or you guys might actually complain. Sun, 25 Feb 2007 20:58:10 +0100 you know that link I put up for funsies? Well the gift card came in the mail:
![]() ...with you know, a letter. Pretty easy $5 I think. Try it yourselves? Good old slickdeals...they're always fun. I've gotten so many pads and hygiene products in the mail through the years looking on their forums. Nothing else is really up...I have a nice, long paper due thursday so I think I might start researching it today. Maybe. Meanwhile, I've started uploading all that manga I have sitting on my external into a folder. So far, nothing is in it but in like...5 hours, I bet there will be plenty. Look: http://www.bigfishcomic.com/unsorted/ okay, thanks all what...one or two of you for reading? It's so nice to know that somebody out there knows I exist....or do I? Wed, 14 Feb 2007 06:16:30 +0100 I'm trying something out. It's called "Glucosamine Helps Your Bones!" and
Pearls, Pearls and more Black Pearls from PearlsOnly.com! ...did that make no sense? How about now? Sun, 11 Feb 2007 20:24:16 +0100 This journal thing has been getting a lot more spam than usual which I take is a good thing but I don't quite know why. I've also got absolutely nothing interesting to say as my life slips into some endless stream of boring monotonous school/work/study/procrastinate/sleep cycle of doom. Oh sigh.
