Toward Tradition News & Commentaries
News and commentaries on the events shaping our culture from Rabbi Daniel Lapin - American Alliance of Jews and Christians

An article in Forbes this week, The Demise of the Euro, details how the Euro, the much heralded currency of the European Union, will soon be a thing of the past. "...with no shared language, customs, culture or political system, the euro zone has never existed except as a construct in the minds of bureaucrats and politicians."
Over 5,000 churches are planning to hold a Passover Seder this coming weekend. To this news, Jews react in two ways. Most of us are happy that our Christian friends are seeking the origins of their faith in Judaism; however some Jews condemn these Christian Seders.

During the past four decades or so, we have uncritically embraced the revolutionary idea that sex is nobody else’s business. Fortunately, the holiday of Passover reminds us that sex is indeed everybody’s business.

Less than two weeks before Thanksgiving, Gov. Sonny Perdue met outside the Georgia State Capitol with several hundred people, "To very reverently and respectfully pray up a storm," in hope of ending the historic drought that has threatened the water supply in Georgia. Immediately, the secular left launched attacks on the governor and religion, ridiculing both for seeking God's help with the weather.

I suspect that by "Man of God" you mean some sort of other-worldly guy who is mostly ethereal. Someone who spends all his time contemplating heavenly questions. Perhaps eating only bread and water, and those only when absolutely necessary. Boy, do you have me wrong...

A baby llama joined the Lapin family a while back. He was a gorgeous honey white animal with big brown eyes. The children named him Llucky and petitioned my wife and me to modify the spelling of our name to Llapin.

by Michael Medved - When it comes to the issue of gay marriage, the Jewish Theological Seminary blinked and gave way to society’s shifting mores. So one must ask the question: Should we guide religion, or should religion guide us?
Like Noah, Jerry Falwell walked with God and found grace in His eyes. He was a friend to all Americans, he was a friend to the Biblical values that he believed America needed, and he was a wonderful friend to me.

By: Daniel Greenfield At the 1972 Munich Olympics, when Palestinian terrorists broke into the rooms of the Israeli athletes, wrestling referee Yossef Gutfreund threw his weight against the door so that others might escape through the windows. That legacy was alive when Virginia Tech Professor Liviu Librescu blocked the door with his own body so that his students could escape through the windows
Audiences are often surprised to hear me insist that there are really only two systems for organizing human society. I explain this at length in the first volume of my Genesis Journeys audio series on CD, Tower of Power: Decoding the Secrets of Babel. The first system is characterized by (i)-disdain for the Biblical faiths of Judaismnaïve trust in centralized authority; (ii)- and Christianity; (iii)-art and entertainment becoming more ugly and animalistic.

It is the period of Holocaust Remembrance Day or Yom HaShoah-the Day of the Holocaust. In Israel, traffic comes to a halt for two minutes of respectful silence. In America, the day is observed by many Jewish communities as the dead are mourned. But for some, the Holocaust challenges faith.

As a visible, politically conservative rabbi, whose conservatism flows inevitably and directly from his Judaism, I endure a never-ending barrage of attacks. I don’t much mind them as they remind me of my mission—standing astride America’s secular path to decline, decadence, and depravity, but I do feel sorry for the pain these assaults cause my family. Especially so since most of these attacks come from other Jews; indignant Jews outraged by a rabbi who does not subscribe to the principles of liberalism.
