Are You Affiliate Manager Material?

(Learn more about working at home as an Affiliate Manager.)

Creating an affiliate program isn’t easy. But creating a successful one is even more challenging.  It takes a lot of time, energy and effort. There are those that are cut out for it and those that aren’t. Even people that have natural ability to run one need to put a lot of work into developing their skill set.

Think you might make a good affiliate manager?

Read these five signs and see for yourself.

1. You tend to be a big thinker but are also detail oriented.

Big thinkers see ‘the big picture’ and that’s crucial in creating a program to drive sales. Someone that is working towards an end goal that they have in mind will make a great affiliate manager. Detail oriented people will be able to look over all the details while doing all the planning it requires to create a successful program.

2.  You are familiar with the internet and know how to get around.

An affiliate manager will be knowledgable and confident in maneurving their way around the internet. They will have the skills to research using the internet to find information. They will also need to at least be familiar with autoresponder programs and know how to load emails into one. A good affiliate manager will also be able to handle other internet related tasks.

3.  You have great communication skills

More than likely any job you’ve had in the past, offline or online have required that you communicate. There’s no way around it and a great affiliate manager will have awesome communication skills. You will need to communicate with those all across the globe. It’s imperative that an affiliate manager be able to communicate important information and get messages across.

A great affiliate manager will stay up to date with the affiliates. The affiliate manager will have to be one step ahead of everyone else and know when to notify the affiliates about price changes, contests, product enhancements and contests.

It’s important that an affiliate manager stay on top of things so that the affiliate doesn’t forget about promoting the program. The objective is sales and staying in touch with affiliates and contacting them on a regular basis will mean more sales in the long run.

4.  You have a natural ability to motivate others.

One trait that really sets a great affiliate manager apart from others is the ability to motivate others.  This can be very challenging indeed.  Inspiring others to work hard and push sales is a huge part of running a successful affiliate program.  Some of this needs to come from within, but this is something that can be learned.

5.  You have the knack for writing.

Good writing skills pretty much goes hand in hand with good communication skills. Not only will you need writing skills to communicate with your affiliate, you will also need to communicate with potential customers.

Part of your duty as an affiliate manager might be to create promotional materials for your affiliates to use. This could mean you will be responsible for writing anything from a blog post to something more elaborate such as a special report.

Great affiliate managers are not easy to come by and are in high demand. By taking the time to invest in developing these skills you will find that in the long run it’s well worth it. Even if you are not looking to be an affiliate manager don’t think these skills aren’t worth knowing. They will help you stand out above the rest of the crowd if you plan to create your own affiliate program for yourself.

Would You Make a Good Affiliate Manager?

Flint, MI – November 17, 2008 – The holiday season has officially begun, and that means it is prime time to market a craft business. Getting your business in front of holiday shoppers can be tricky – especially if you have a small advertising budget.

The teleseminar “How To Market A Craft Business Without Going Broke” (http://www.indiebizchicks.com/craft-business-seminar.html) offers tips and solutions that crafty business owners can use now to get more publicity during the holiday shopping season.

“Promoting your business is an essential activity. If no one knows your business exists, they cannot buy anything from you,” said Crissy Herron, the founder of www.IndieBizChicks.com and the host of the teleseminar. “Thankfully, there are many ways for a crafty business owner to promote their business online without spending a fortune in advertising.” Herron adds.

Some sample tips include:

  • Participate In Local And Online Craft Fairs - There is probably some kind of craft fair in your local area every weekend right now. Participating in several of them in surrounding towns is a great idea, as it allows you to introduce your business to a wide circle of people. You can also find many online craft fairs to participate in.
  • Hold Shopping Parties - Follow the lead of the direct sales industry and hold some “holiday shopping parties.” Invite your customers to hold parties, where they act as a hostess and invite their friends and family over to their homes to view your products and place their holiday shopping orders.
  • Use Social Networking Sites - Social networking sites like Facebook.com and Twitter.com allow you to meet new people who may be potential customers or even business partners. Networking on these sites is very easy – you simply strike up a conversation.
  • Blog On A Regular Basis – People love to read blogs, and your blog could be the first way many of your customers find you. Not only will it bring you web traffic, but it can also serve as the foundation of your customer relationships

My guests this week are Lorna Doone Brewer and Tamara Berry of the Freelance Parents blog at Sparkplugging.

Lorna and Tamara partner in their freelance writing business and recently entered into a Cross Blog Conversation with the guys over at Men with Pens.  You can read the CBC through the links on the WAHM Talk Radio home page.

I asked Lorna and Tamara to share some of their takeaway from this conversation with my listeners.  I enjoyed hearing about how they came together as partners and how their business has grown.

New website helps time-crunched home cooks with free quick and easy dinner recipes and tips.

Windsor, Ontario, Canada. A new website for home cooks in a hurry has been launched. MyQuickDinnerRecipes.com contains recipes that can be prepared in 30 minutes or less, as well as tips for making meals fast and easy.

“I created My Quick Dinner Recipes for Moms like me who want to prepare delicious home-cooked meals but don’t want to spend all day slaving away in the kitchen,” the site’s creator, Alexis Rodrigo, says.

“However, My Quick Dinner Recipes is more than just a collection of recipes,” Rodrigo adds.

The site also provides practical tips to make cooking easier and faster, including:

  • which kitchen gadgets are essential for cooking fast
  • what shortcuts you can take to simplify meal preparation and reduce cooking time
  • how to organize the kitchen for maximum efficiency
  • which staples to store in your pantry so you can whip up dinner at a moment’s notice

The site offers a free newsletter that gives cooking and meal planning tips and advice exclusive to subscribers. The newsletter is authored by Rodrigo and her sister, Victoria Ado, who has a diploma in Culinary Arts and Kitchen Management from the International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management.

“I’ve been having formal cooking and baking lessons since I was in grade school. However, not every one has that luxury. Many home cooks do not experience cooking success because of poor cooking habits or simply not knowing any better. We’d like to help bridge that gap,” Rodrigo says.

MyQuickDinnerRecipes.com publishes new recipes and tips every week, and the newsletter is sent every two weeks.

“It is very rewarding to have a family meal and see and hear your children and husband gushing over the food,” Rodrigo says. “The best part is knowing that it only took you a few minutes to do it.”

Alexis Rodrigo is a stay at home Mom of 3 children, freelance writer and home entrepreneur based in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.  To get free quick dinner recipes and tips, visit http://www.myquickdinnerrecipes.com

The Free Passes Goes To…

Nancy Jacob a basket weaving hobbyist and Gina Badality of Art by Tech joined me for a great conversation about feeling guilty about pursuing their dreams of entrepreneurship while raising their kids.

Do you ever fear that your work at home dreams will interfere with your responsibilities as a wife and mother?  Mom guilt is something that many moms deal with - add personal business ambitions and it multiplies.

Listen in to hear how Nancy decides to proceed with her dreams :)

My 42 Day Launch Incubator Group starts tomorrow night at 9pm EST and alas - I have three positions left open!

What is the Incubator you ask?

It is an intense six week group coaching program that will guide you through the creation and launch of a new information product.

Who would be perfect for the Incubator?

  • A blogger who has been thinking about turning her favorite blog topic into a new product.
  • A coach who needs an introductory resource to offer potential clients.
  • A consultant looking to launch a membership program.
  • A product seller in need of a digital ‘dangling carrot’ to build a mailing list.
  • You - if you’ve been dreaming about your own product.

I really want to start with a full group so I’m looking for a work at home mom who would like to have a spot in the Incubator but is being held back by finances.

If you have an idea for a great information product and you’re ready to jump in with both feet - leave a comment here and tell me you’d like to be in.

I’ll choose a winner tomorrow morning at 1pm Eastern time.
