Memories, dreams and reflections on guns, the right to keep and bear arms, M1911 pistols, snubnose revolvers, self defense, gun sports and anything else that comes to mind, by Syd, The author of The Sight M1911 and The Snubnose Files Sat, 26 Jul 2008 01:33:29 +0200 Washington D.C. Gun Permit
Tue, 22 Jul 2008 06:05:38 +0200 I don't sell my reloads very often, but with the price of ammo these days, reloading is like printing money. I stopped by the local range to pick up a couple of boxes of ammo on the way to a match. It was two boxes of S&B 230 grain FMJ. The clerk rang up the bill: $38. What's different now is that the war happened; ammo got scarce; metals went through the roof, but I don't want to give up shooting because ammo has tripled in price. My aching pocket book brought to my remembrance the reloading press that had been carefully packed away and stored in the basement.
Mon, 21 Jul 2008 03:19:19 +0200 Imagine the relief when the driver hands you a drivers license and a CCW permit. Those two things tell you a lot about a person. One, I can know for certain who this person is and two, this person has subjected themselves to a criminal background check and the State has said yes, we trust you with a concealed weapon. This is probably not a bad guy here.
Sun, 20 Jul 2008 04:25:56 +0200 The Washington D.C. City Council has created so many hoops for handgun owners to jump through before they can exercise their Second Amendment rights, they may require legal counsel just to identify what the hoops are. This sorry state of affairs is much to the satisfaction of The Washington Post, which called for just such an obstructionist policy in an editorial.
Sat, 19 Jul 2008 21:03:18 +0200 WOULD BANNING FIREARMS REDUCE MURDER AND SUICIDE? There is a compound assertion that (a) guns are uniquely available in the United States compared with other modern developed nations, which is why (b) the United States has by far the highest murder rate. Though these assertions have been endlessly repeated, statement (b) is, in fact, false and statement (a) is substantially so...
Wed, 16 Jul 2008 05:48:52 +0200 The District of Columbia Council approved new firearms legislation Tuesday that will allow residents to begin applying for handgun permits this week.
Tue, 15 Jul 2008 18:22:36 +0200 Barack Obama specifically voted four times in the Illinois Legislature to allow criminal charges against a homeowner who used a firearm in self-defense of their person and home -- specifically what the Supreme Court says is a constitutional right. Obama may say he supports it, but his record says exactly the opposite.
Tue, 15 Jul 2008 04:05:27 +0200 Since I identify with the people who fall into Barrack Obama's elitist description of people of faith who keep firearms I'm not very happy with Barrack Obama's recent remarks. He said something to the effect that us rednecks cling to our guns and our religion when we get frustrated and I would like to take umbrage to these remarks.
Mon, 14 Jul 2008 22:25:34 +0200 Just because you’re only planning a quiet dinner with friends DOES NOT mean that someone else is not planning a violent robbery, rape, or other crime against you.
