I'm a big fan of science fiction - specially Isaac Asimov, the father of 3 laws of robotics. If you haven't heard of him, he's the guy that wrote "I, Robot" and "Bicentennial Man". I've just finished reading his Foundation series, which received him a Hugo award. You've got to read this - best SF ever, in my opinion. Anyhow, this is the reason I've entitled this post "Stars like dust", which is another novel by the same author that I'm preparing to read. But let's jump to our regular illusion business. I found this picture below quite amusing. It's the same old "checkers" story again, only this time in another example. The goal is to make yourself believe that both stars (A and B) are of the same color. Not so easy, ayeh? You can see the proof inside. By the way, I'm in some sort of developing over the last few weeks (connected with this site), so be sure to check regularly. I may have another surprise for you.

Still no luck obtaining necessary iPone apps. I figured out if I wanted to post to this blog off an iPhone, I'd need some crucial utilities. First I'd like to know if there is a simple iPhone app that allows me to resize photos to a width I prefer. Secondly, I'd need a good copy-paste option enabled. Above all that, I'd need an app that would let me enter text inside Blogger's "Create Post" form. I can't believe Google hasn't introduced blogger app out yet. Well, if someone knows answer to any of my questions, please share. In the mean time here's a simple optical illusion that involves ropes. Apparently, something isn't as you think it should be in the first photo. If you can't find out what's wrong, be sure to check second pic which can be found inside this article (supposedly, you are reading this from my homepage).

Today I got myself an iPhone (not this one). I'm not some big gadget enthusiast, but the offer was so good, I had to take it. The price was barely $50 (since I used my option to prolong the 2 year business contract with T-Mobile). I'm sure it was a good deal, and that I will make some use of this phone. One of the reasons I agreed to this option, is beacuse I wanted to be able to surf and post new articles when I'm away. The biggest surprise hit me few minutes ago. I can't post to blogger from iPhone! Nor can I copy/paste text with it. So I'm asking politely, are there any applications that will allow me to copy-paste text I write from one window to another, and is there an easy way to post directly to blogspot blogs? I haven't found any Google app that would let me do this easily. Please help! In the mean time, check these few Multiple-meaning billboards created for Cold Eeze. The campaign was called "Get Well Sooner", and was published back in 2007 by "Merkley and partners" advertising agency.

Got this item through an email message. Not much to be said about it. If you open the article, you'll see another photo that explains the illusion. It's really simple! An ambigram, AKA an inversion or flipscript is a graphical figure that spells out a word, not only in its form as presented, but also in another direction or orientation. Text can consist of a few words, and the text spelled out in the other direction or orientation is often the same, but can also be different. Now to give you all some short history lesson! (I copy pasted this from Wikipedia) - The term "ambigram" was first used to mean "ambiguous anagram" by Judith E. Bagai, a former editor of The Enigma, the official organ of The National Puzzlers' League. According to John Langdon, ambigrams were independently invented by himself and by Scott Kim in the 1970s. Kim used the name Inversions as the title of his first collection in 1981. I have linked some words in this text with appropriate ambigram examples. Check them if you wish!

Remember our original Coffee Bean Man optical illusion? Well, all of you that weren't satisfied with my last few illusions picks, I hope this one will give you a headache! Hehe, assignment is the same - try and find the hidden bean man inside this coffee pile below. It shouldn't be too hard, though. Still, it depends how you approach the problem. Don't let previous Coffee illusions guide you in this quest. Funny thing is that the person hidden in the image looks somewhat like Afro-American version of McCain.
As all of you know, yesterday there was very important day for USA, as well as for the whole world. US citizens elected Barack Obama as the next US president. I have to admit I'm very satisfied with their choice, and look forward to see if he'll be able to bring world back on right tracks. Where do you stand on this?
So, in the lack of "spot the differences" optical illusions, I have added this one that took my attention. These kind of "illusions" appear rarely on the site, and only reason they do is because you like them so much (at least so I heard). We can hardly consider them illusions. Only reason is because both pictures look the same, even though they aren't. It's a stretch, I know - but allows me to share this kind of games with you via Mighty Illusions homepage. I'm not sure how many differences between two photos there are, but I believe there are 12 to be found (I came to this conclusion since there is number 12 inside the name of the pics). If you find more, be sure to share! Another similar game can be found here.

The title has more to do with me clowning around, than actual illusion it represents. But what is more important, is that over the weekend we have passed 20 million visitors milestone! You can check for yourselves in the footer of the site. I know, I know... 20 million doesn't represent true unique visitors, but it also doesn't represent page impressions. We had over 80 million of those. Either way you take it, we had really successful 2.5 years of existence. I remember when we passed our first million - it seems like yesterday. I should think of some sort of competition or something, but I never found any sponsor for such things. How come less popular websites get all those laptops, iphones etc. from their sponsors to give to their visitors via competition. How do we set such competition up? Anyone has any experience? Ah, almost forgot... there should be nice looking female hidden somewhere in the rock pile below. Can you see her? I'm almost positive this did not occur by accident.
Hybrid image optical illusions were first invented by some guys over at MIT, I think. These images are able to change interpretation as a function of viewing distance. In this example below, you might think that what you are seeing is absolute. If you are standing somewhere near to your monitor, you should be seeing blurry pictured leopard. But wait! When you move away few meters you probably won't see anything (hehe). Still, if your eyes are healthy, you will see some other animal. No need to explain further, since we had many similar examples in the past. Sorry if the illusion isn't what you expected, but I promise next one will be more decent. I was in a hurry today.
I really have no idea how Li Wei managed to capture these photos of himself. The closest thing that comes to my mind is Johan Lorbeer.Dangling horizontally out of a skyscraper, his hovering figure looks set to fall to his doom, but this artist 'jumper' hasn't just lost it all on a game of chance - this is performance art with a difference. Li Wei has previously produced series of self-portraits involving faces reflected in mirrors, and photographs of himself crashing into walls and sidewalks. His current work is a mixture of performance art and photography that creates illusions of a sometimes dangerous reality. I would really love if we could brainstorm on this "installation", and maybe come to a decent conclusion.

Some of you were getting tired of all those hidden wolves, horses, eagles and dolphins. I'm not sure if I exaggerated with all those "Find the hidden animal" illusions from Steve Gardner, or just with the specific animal types. Either way, here is something refreshing, but if I was wrong and this still nerves you, I will stop publishing similar material in near future. In short, try and find 13 hidden orcas in this nice painted picture. P.S. My head completely stopped hurting... Enjoy your stay at Mighty Optical Illusions website!
Hy everyone. For today I have prepared simple, yet amazing optical illusion (like I always do :) The Poggendorff Illusion is an optical illusion that involves brain's perception of the interaction between diagonal lines and horizontal and vertical edges. It is named after Poggendorff, who discovered it in the drawing of Johann Karl Friedrich Zöllner, in which Zöllner showed the Zöllner illusion in 1860. In the picture to the left, a straight A and B line is obscured by a "track". The A line appears, instead of the B line, to be the same as the C one, which is shown not to be the case. If you would like to check this for your selves, be sure to jump inside this article, and see the explanation example. I can't beleive I missed posting this one, since it is so perfect optical illusion reperesentative.
I don't know whats happening in my country's capital (Zagreb, Croatia). In last few months Mafia killed some very important people, while officials and the statesmen can't do nothing about it, except keep promising absurd promises and public safety. Check previous two links for more info. This is shocking, because Zagreb was always a safe city. Don't want to make negative publicity, but I'm not feeling much safe where I live now. Should think of moving to NY or Monte Carlo in the near future... Well, just wanted to share some of my thoughts. Also, I visited doctor about my 2 week headache, but she insists it's sinus inflammation. Well, let just hope it stops already. In the mean time here is the last part of "Help Them Find Their Tool" series. If you don't know what to do, check previous Part I and Part II for explanation and more examples. Logging off..

You have got to check this animation out! It has potential to overthrow the "Little Dragon Illusion" of the throne as one of the best illusions ever. In short concave figures give the impression they are actually convex (bump out). Same principle we saw in Einstein's Hollow Face and Magnificent Buddha. You can find few more inside Videos category, but I bet this one is the best for now. The video attached below is made in Flash, and takes some time to load (9 MB). If you have trouble seeing it, you can go to this YouTube link, and see it there. Enjoy! P.S. My head (eyes) still hurt!I have to be sincere with you. Dealing with so many optical illusions daily, has it's negative side as well. I have really become selective, publishing only those I like visually and that bring something new to this optical illusion theme. Well, sometimes my duty is to share illusions I know you want, but that I don't care much about. Impossible Object ones were really interesting at first, but after some time they've become variation of a variation of a variation. Rarely something new flies in. But to clean my illusion directory a little, I have collected rest of them i had on my disk, and posted them inside this post. Do what you will. Maybe you'll even like some of them. You can comment, or don't. It's up to you. Try and enjoy this collection.

I have re-ordered my sidebar, and added minor design changes. What do you think of it? Should I lower the amount of ads? Are they annoying, or you haven't even noticed them? Please share your thoughts on this, since it's very important for me to have clean looking design on Mighty Optical Illusions. Also, friend of mine sent me these two shadow illusions. Somehow they remind me of our long lost article called "Come to The Dark Side", even though right comparison should be with "Shadow Couple", "Block Shadow Girl", and the original "Amazing Shadows Collection". I like this kind of stuff, cause it makes me think. What is your opinion?

Long time since we had our last Google Earth optical illusion. I had this submitted by many people, but somehow forgot to publish it by now. In short - this aerial (or satellite) photo gives impression there is an ancient Indian listening to the iPod. Take it as you will, but the picture truly resembles something. Hey, wouldn't this be amazing free advertisement for Apple? If I were in their marketing team, I'd really take advantage of it. Here are some quotes from people who submitted this. "Hey fella, have a look at this. May be worthy of inclusion in the list.. Cheers Mark Ward. Manchester England."
Rachel Creed: "This is a pretty amazing shot of a relief map just outside Medicine Hat, Ab Canada. It looks like an Indian with an ear bud in. Here is the Google Map photo" James Roseborough: "You probably have seen this one, but I first heard about it on CBC Radio show "As It Happens". They were trying to figure out a name for this formation. It's an image straight out of Google Maps, and looks like an Indian chief wearing an iPod!"
Again, I would like to thank you all for your sincere care for my health. In these times I learned how warm and carry my readers are. Good news is that my head pain dropped slightly, and I hope this is beginning of my full recovery! As a present I bring you this majestic print with 9 hidden eagles in it. The artwork was created by Steven Michael Gardner, and is "ingeniously" titled - "9 Eagles". You already know what to do! Search and find all the hidden eagles in this picture below, and if you find some extra, drop me a line, so we can sign a petition to Gardner to change the name of his artwork. More similar posters from Gardner can be found inside "Spot The Object" category. Enjoy...
This one has to be the best illusion I came across. It's a scanned flayer for the local dancing school (probably this one). Took some time to see it tough, but when I noticed the illusion I couldn't stop laughing. I'll let you figure this one yourselves. No hints from me!
My head still hurts, but I went to see a doctor. Guess what she told me - "It's a sinus inflammation pressing on my optic nerve" .. or something like that. I think I won't be needing any doctor in the future, cause it seems like consulting with my readers is much easier. I even get 2nd opinion (and 3rd, and 4th, and so on...) I was amazed how schtoogler thought of this first (in comments of my previous post), and many others suggested the same thing. Schtoogler will you be my Online doctor of trust? Hehe... Thanks everyone for all your care and good wishes, except those who suggested I had AIDS or tumor.. I haven't approved those comments, but think I should have. Probably they were worried as well, not just being evil!
Here is something you don't see every day. In my view this illusion is totally mind-boggling. We all know how Ponzo illusion works, and why this phenomenon occurs, but in this particular example it's really hard to settle that both red lines are exactly the same - I measured them. Still, I can't deal with the fact that the further line isn't little bolder and little longer. Can you convince yourself? How can "what we see" and "what our mind is telling us" exist in harmony? Share you thoughts, please.
My flu isn't gone yet. I'm little better, but have really strange headache. When I try to move my eyes from one corner to another, intolerable pain strikes. If I want to look at something left of me, I have to close my eyes, turn my head and then open them again. Same goes for any other direction except straight forward. The good thing about having so many readers, is that some you may be doctors. Before I go to see my own doctor, what would your diagnose be?
I have a flew (update: flu). It's so hard doin' anything while being sick. I'm like a walking zombie. I'm dizzy, sleep all day, but am not able to fall a sleep. Can't read, can't watch TV, everything I see looks like this. My head hurts when I try to talk or listen to someone. You wouldn't believe how hard was it for me to stand up and write this post. I'll report more when I feel a little better. Really hope this flu doesn't last standard week. Enough whining. For today, it was simplest to post this "Awareness Test" sent in by Guilherme de Jesus. This is what Guilherme wrote, god knows when (sorry for such a delay G.): "Hi! First I would like to say your site is great, I check it everyday for new illusions :) This illusion is an advertising that i saw in a blog from Brazil (but wasn't created there) and I laughed a lot with it, so I thought I could share with you. Thanks and keep the great job."Amnesty International, whose clever ideas we've already posted on this site before (dozen of times), released another brave campaign under the title: "See no Evil". Billboards they printed, show afterimage optical illusions. When you first look at the seemingly unrelated black shape, you probably won't recognize anything interesting. But if you know how afterimages work, then you'll immediately see some of the worlds most notorious villains. Concentrate at the red cross at the center of each image, and after a minute, move your eyes and look at some white surface (wall, paper, ceiling... ). After few seconds you'll be able to see negative of the black shape, which will form face of the very familiar "celebrity". There are 5 different posters inside this article, can you recognize all the villains they picture? This campaign greatly reminds me of Veja Magazine's promotional posters (part I, part II, part III).

Sorry for no update yesterday. It was really busy day for me, but I hope this new "Help them find their tool" collection will sheer you up. The rules are simple: each person in this set misses his "tool", and is prevented to do his profession. Can you locate all of them? There are altogether 6 hidden objects somewhere inside these 6 cards. I strongly believe in you and your talent. Let's start! Btw, if you missed Part I of this searching game, be sure to browse through our archives which can be located in the sidebar of this website. Enjoy!

Got this photo from Laura Hales, and wanted to share it with you. I believe this time the photo was manipulated, but never the less it's freaking awesome! Maybe it would be even cooler if the smoke took form of a cancer (crab). Line that goes with this illusion should be: "Don't smoke, or you'll die.. from Fish Attack!" Yeah, I know my line is incredibly cheesy and pathetic, but I made it up in a sec. You people can think of much better line for this photo. Please do, and be sure to share your idea through comments! Also, check previous awesome smokin' illusion.
Btw, when I asked for brainstorming in my previous post, I never thought your ideas could be so professional and helpful (shame on me)! Alicia, Sara, Tysss, Strawberry, Csieuchand and especially Shawn had some really quality ideas. As you see Shawn, I have immediately integrated your idea in my "Featured Post", and Alicia, I have already contacted the person you recommended to me. All of you that still believe I don't read all comments, I hope I proved you wrong :P If you have a website, please check the website widget from featured post above (but it can also be found in the sidebar). If you decide to test it, be sure to send me your link and screenshot, so we can show others how you successfully integrated the gadget (and send you additional traffic ;)
So, I'm interested in hiring social media expert to help me spread this website around the net more aggressive. Are you the person I'm lookin' for? Know someone with needed skills? I'm just sppeking my thoughts loudly. Am not sure what would be next logical move for us to become more widely popular with Mighty Optical Illusions. I would enjoy if we could talk this over via comments? Any advice? In the mean time let's see today's billboard illusion. I have received these photos with transparent decals and murals that were placed on trasnit shelters and consecutive buildings, showing distance runner Bernard Lagat bursting through. I think this campaign was created for Nike. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Important: Vista Gadget has been updated again (version 2.2), so feel free to download this new version if you have problems with the previous one. This one loads optical illusions quicker and without companion issues. Once you arrive to the vista download page, I would REALLY appreciate if you rate the gadget with 5 stars, and add comment that it is working now, so others don't get the wrong feeling seeing previous bad comments for the lesser version. Also, I have changed the "Featured Post" to give you more insight into our Optical Illusions RSS Feed.
Now let's see what else have I prepared for today. There are 3 awesome photographs inside article's body, and I can assure you that none was manipulated in photoshop, nor in any other image editing tool. They represent simple objects seen in real life, and your assignment is to try and guess their nature. Are they embossed or impressed? I'm still not sure if they are convex or concave, thus can't be sure what the images represent. For example, the second one looked like a topless pyramid of some sort, but then again it could as well represent a small hole in a ceiling. Can you be absolutely sure what you see? Let's discuss! ![]() ![]()
