I'm trying to put together a podcast of listener memories and stories about John Peel. The podcast will be a mixture of listener memories and new independent music which John would be championing if he were still with us.

Were you a listener and fan of his programmes.
Do you have any memories about a specific time that you were listening?
Did John change your musical taste?
Did something significant happen to your life as a result of listening to him.
What are your memories, happy, sad, embarrassing or nostalgic.
If so, and you can record an audio mp3 of yourself, and please send it to nic@storyville.f9.co.uk

I am planning the podcast to coincide with the anniversary of his death toward the end of October. So please send your contribution by October 21st at the latest.

Your assistance in this is greatly appreciated. If you do not have the ability to record your story and you can submit a written account please do so and I will consider it for inclusion.

This programme is a compilation of my audio blogs from 24th Feb till 5th March 2007 while I have been participating in the Slam Idol Open Writing Challenge. The premise of the competition is to get 6 poets to create an original poem over 10 days, while audio blogging their creative process and progress.

You can find out more about the competition by following the link below to the Slam Idol website and listening to the other competitors. I had a great deal of fun and a little frustration in creating my poem, which took up quite a bit of time. Hence no typical Homegrown this week. But I hope you enjoy this all poetry programme and insight into my own creative process.

There will soon be a voting process on Slam Idol to find listeners favourite poem.

This is a cool idea. To show the awsome power of social media in action and to send the music biz a big message, a group have got together and have come up with the idea of getting an idependent music artist to number one in the ITUNES music charts for one day, 22nd March 2006. They are asking everyone to purchase this song from ITUNES on this day. And they have signed up as an affiliate of the iTunes Music Store, and every commission made on the sale of the chosen song by Black Lab called "Mine Again" will be donated to college scholarships, partly because it's a worthy cause, but also partly because college students are among the most misunderstood and underestimated groups of people by big media.

The date for the combined effort is 22nd March. You can find out more about this at their web site at http://bumrushthecharts.blogspot.com/

Homegrown has been nominated in the Poetry Podcast category of the Podcast Peer Awards, along with some other great poetry podcasts - Cloudy Day Art, Slam Idol, Little Reds Writing Hood, Indie Feed Performance Poetry, Everyday Muse and Mike McGee. The Awards are chosen and voted for by podcasters.

Check out all the other finialists at the Podcast Peer Awards site, the winners will be announced on March 4th.

So does this mean I get to dress up and attend a top notch swanky awards dinner type affair?? No, not really, but I am thrilled to be nominated and wish all my fellow podcasters the best of luck.

This week I hosted AMPed, the weekly podcast from the Association of Music Podcasting, which features some of the best independent music being played by podcasters both in the UK, the States and beyond.

I thought I'd present the podcast here for your consideration, slightly revised with a break for some spoken word material half way through. More information on AMP can be found at www.musicpodcasting.org
