Jorge Lorenzo will be wearing a cast on his left foot for the next ten days, in order to recover from the clean fractures he sustained to his third, fourth and fifth metatarsal bones last Sunday. The Fiat Yamaha rider was taken directly to the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona upon his return from Laguna Seca, in order to undergo a series of examinations by Dr. Xavier Mir. The Spaniard was injured in a crash on the opening lap of last Sundays U.S. Grand Prix, the final round before the MotoGP summer break.
After fantastic race in Laguna Seca we saw this weekend, it is sure that there is lot of opposite impressions among riders. For sure we can name two - Rossi and Stoner, both of them viewing race from different angle. Read MotoGP rider impressions after US GP.
Valentino Rossi managed to do thing that looked impossible before race at Laguna Seca - stopped Casey Stoner, who was much faster than others, including Rossi, through all practice sessions. However, Rossi shown that pure race pace is not always enough to win the races - sometimes right tactics gives better results. Stoner was in the front of the race at the start, but this time Rossi had good start and was right behind Stoner in no time. From that point on, Rossi shown determination that we did not seen recently, attacking Stoner in most amazing places, including Corkscrew, where he almost crashed. It was obvious that Rossi had intention to break Stoners rhythm, which he eventually did in last part of the race.
Casey Stoner took 5th consecutive pole position and demonstrated race-pace that was unmatched by other riders in Laguna Seca today, which usually means that tomorrow we will watch another "hit the front and run away" races. Valentino Rossi took that second position on the grid that he claimed to be important to even have the chance to battle with Stoner, but according to his race-pace, he needs to find one more second on race tyres in order to be competitive to Stoner. Nicky Hayden was best Honda and Michelin rider in Laguna Seca qualifying in 3rd place, hoping to get his first podium in 2008 in place where he won in 2005 and 2006.
Casey Stoner continued to set times unreachable to his competitors in second free practice, as he ended this session 0.808 seconds in front of home hero, Nicky Hayden. Valentino Rossi ended day in 3rd place, despite being unable to improve his time from FP1. Alex De Angelis found his way to 4th place, in front of Chris Vermeulen in 5th.
Casey Stoner started another weekend with outstanding result, as he broke Laguna Seca lap record in first free practice session on American circuit. Stoner set time of 1:21.915, which was 0.764 seconds better than time set by his closest competitor, Valentino Rossi, who was also only man inside one second of time set by Stoner. Rossi was 0.274 seconds faster than surprisingly fast Shinya Nakano.
n contrast to the experienced Repsol Honda riders, class rookies and 250cc graduates Andrea Dovizioso and Alex de Angelis will have their work cut our learning this notoriously tricky and demanding circuit. Both riders have had to get used to using extra-grippy qualifying tyres this year and it seems Dovizioso has adapted quicker to the super-sticky rubber. His fourth place on the grid in Germany last weekend was testament to that.
Dani Pedrosa will join Repsol Honda team-mate Nicky Hayden at this weekends United States Grand Prix, despite the heavy tumble he took during last Sundays rain-lased German GP. World Championship challenger Pedrosa was leading the race when he fell at high speed, fracturing the left index finger and the big bone of the left wrist and spraining his right ankle. After the accident he immediately returned to Spain where he was treated by the doctor Xavier Mir at Barcelonas Instituto Universitari Dexeus hospital. He left hospital at noon on Tuesday and flew to the US on Wednesday.
After the great performance registered by Sylvain Guintoli on the shortest European MotoGP circuit, we go across the Atlantic Ocean to race in the shortest circuit in the 2008 calendar, at Laguna Seca in California. Last year on this track the French rider didnt obtain a good performance, but it has been now from four races that he has sensibly improved his riding style on the Ducati GP8 Sat and he will try to maintain the same level on American ground. Toni Elias wasnt satisfied of the last races. The Catalan rider wants to do much better on the American circuit, which he really likes, even if he still hasnt conquered great results here.
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP is off to Laguna Seca in California for the USGP this weekend in confident mood, boosted by the podium for Chris Vermeulen last time out at Sachsenring. The team has made the transatlantic journey direct from Germany to be ready for the sixth race in eight weekends this coming Sunday, which will bring to a close the first half of the season before all the teams take a well-earned break.
The Ducati MotoGP Team tackle the final race before the summer break this weekend just days after Casey Stoners most recent success at Sachsenring, where the Australians third consecutive victory and his fourteenth overall for Ducati took his win rate to 50% from 28 races contested so far in the Borgo Panigale factorys colours.
The Fiat Yamaha Team leave behind a two-month road trip across Europe this week as they take flight for America for their final appointment before the midseason break, with Valentino Rossi in fine form and on top of the MotoGP World Championship. After a rain-hit run of six races in eight weeks, culminating in Sundays Sachsenring splashdown, a trip to the sunshine state of California for the US Grand Prix could not have come at a better time and it represents an opportunity for Rossi to consolidate his series lead before a well-earned holiday.
After another weekend of MotoGP racing, championship battle is still quite close, with three riders having realistic title-chance. Casey Stoner has returned to winning ways, demonstrating brutal force on last three races. Dani Pedrosa today also shown pure determination in opening stages of the race, before crashing from the lead. As always, Rossi is in the front, so we may expect more excitement in one week time in Laguna Seca. Read rider impressions after race in Germany.
Race at Sachsenring today had outcome that we have expected, but its start was everything but expected. Dani Pedrosa stormed to initial lead, quickly gaining 7.5 seconds lead, looking like he is going to make wet-race miracle. However, his fantastic appearance ended in lap 6, when he suffered crash while braking at the end of main straight. From that point it was usual business - Stoner took the lead and never let it go. Valentino Rossi had one of his average starts and had to make his way through the field to the second place, but once again he was unable to match pace of the Casey Stoner. Usual frontrunner in the rain, Chris Vermeulen, build his way to the last podium step.
Casey Stoner once again confirmed that he will be man to beat in Germany, as he took 4th consecutive pole position in Sachsenring today. Casey Stoner set new qualifying record in Sachsenring - 1:21.067. Dani Pedrosa was 0.353 seconds slower than Stoner, also demonstrating race-pace that guarantees podium fight. Colin Edwards was once again best Yamaha qualifier in 3rd place.
Casey Stoner today demonstrated top form that, as we saw in previous races, usually leads to dominant race victory. Stoner set time of 1:21.582 that is better than previous qualifying record, showing once again how fast he can be when his Desmosedici works perfectly. Only other rider that managed to get into 1.21 bracket and within 0.4 seconds off the Stoners time was Alex De Angelis. Colin Edwards was fast in both qualifying sessions, posting 3rd fastest time in Sachsenring free practice, also being the last rider within a second of Stoners time.
AMA Superbike star, Jamie Hacking, will make his MotoGP debut in this years USGP at Laguna Seca, after being drafted into the Kawasaki Racing Team as a temporary replacement for the injured John Hopkins. A three-time AMA champion, Hacking has racked up six podium finishes already in this years ultra-competitive AMA Superbike championship, making him the ideal choice to stand in for Hopkins while the Anglo-American recovers from the injuries sustained in a high-speed qualifying crash ahead of the Dutch TT at Assen.
Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda RC212V) arrives in Germany with a four-point lead over Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) and Ducati rider Casey Stoner 25 points behind Rossi. With just two races to go before the summer break - here and at Laguna Seca, USA - this Grand Prix is of immense import.
Ducati Marlboro Team is ready for next two races that are of equal importance to its two riders, for a variety of reasons. Casey Stoner heads to Germany on the back of consecutive victories and he is keen to banish the memories of an unfortunate race there last season, when he dominated in practice only to be forced into damage limitation in the race as he battled with an unexpected tyre problem, eventually crossing the line in fifth place. Marco Melandri is hoping to finally end his troubles at a circuit where he has already enjoyed great success. The Italian has taken victory at the Sachsenring on no fewer than three occasions in the small classes, having won the 125cc race in 1999 and the 250cc race in 2001 and 2002, as well as finishing second in the MotoGP race two years ago.
Anthony West will be the sole Kawasaki pilot on the grid for this weekends German Grand Prix at Sachsenring, as teammate John Hopkins is forced to sit out the next two races due to injuries sustained during a high-speed qualifying crash at Assen two weeks ago. West heads into this weekends race determined to make amends for a disappointing result last time out at the Dutch TT, where a lap seven crash while lying 11th ended his hopes of a second top ten finish in succession.
